Moon Lite Grill — What a delightful find, especially for those who want to eat healthy or gluten free. We broke our 2 month cleanse with a delicious gluten free fish fry(one of the few truly gluten free fish fry’s available for miles around)! Christopher was very friendly, knowledgable and attentive to our dietary needs. Everything from the fish to the fries to the tartar sauce to the cole slaw was exemplary! Prices were very reasonable, service excellent and large quantities of tasty eats!

I stopped in the Moon Lite Grill last week. Was my first time and wanted to see how it was since it was a new place. First thing I noticed was that on an extremely hot day, there was little to no air conditioning. In other words NOTCOOL. I had the chicken quesadilla. This thing was huge ~ as in, it was 2 large tortillas stuck together with gobs of yellow cheese and chunks of chicken. Then, was cut up like a pizza and just slapped on a plate or something. It was pretty gross. Pretty tasteless. Came with a little salsa cup on the side. Was I suppose to put it on my quesadilla? If so, it wasn’t «saucy» enough and would have fallen off of it, so I guess I was just suppose to eat the salsa on the side with a fork and the bland entrée. I was not impressed. Come on, folks; You can do way better than this. Oh, and it was expensive, too, for what I got. I think with a tip, drink and quesadilla I ended up spending over $ 11.00 for something I didn’t enjoy at all. Not a good first impression. Sorry.

My sweetheart and I stopped at the bank the other night. They had coupons for 15% off at the moon lite grill so we thought«why not?!» We’ve been anxiously anticipating the opening since he never got to introduce me to the previous business that occupied the space(grill junkies). We stopped at Sonoma for a yummy bottle of dessert wine for at home after a good meal. We walk in and are simultaneously confused. We both were wondering; «is this fine dining or a fast food resturaunt?» We were very hesitant but we sat down in the empty dining room where our server greeted us promptly. She was very nice and took our drink order. I went with a familiar beer and my lovey ordered water.(Which is usually the sign for… we won’t be staying long.) She came out quickly with the beer but filled his ice water at a soda machine that’s right in the dining room. My instant thought was«oh my.» Why wouldn’t you just hand your customer the cup like at an old country buffet? There was a buffet set up next to the registers but we had no clue what was in there because we were too scared to look. The back deck was set up very cute and the décor and decorations inside were ok but felt like we were at a cheap wedding with obnoxious center pieces that were just in the way. There was salt and pepper surrounding it on the table top which means they aren’t moved while cleaning tables. We’re germ freaks and like cleanliness. That’s one of the first rules when you have a resturaunt. Keep it clean and tidy. We started looking at the menu which was printed on regular printer paper and not very appeasing to the eye. We looked at eachother and knew what each other were thinking. «RUN!» Because of so much confusion of what this place was, a red flag went up for both of us. We kindly asked for the check, chugged my beer, and we were gone. If there was less uncertainty of what type of resturaunt this was and a few things changed we may try again.

We were in Oconomowoc to watch a baseball game and decided to go to Grill Junkies after the game. We drive to it and are surprised to see that it has been replaced by the Moon Lite Grill. We decide to check it out and hope the food is the same quality as we had come to expect. 3 of us ordered burgers while the 2 youngest members of our party got kids meals. The Kids Mac and Cheese smelled like it was turning and the little guy who ordered it looked like he was going to hurl when he took his first bite. Needless to say, we sent it back for a kids hot dog. I got the half pound burger. They ask you to put your own toppings on the burger at their burger topping bar. You can also get potato salad, pasta salad, and coleslaw. The problem with their burger topping bar is that all of this food just sits there. The tomatoes looked like they were sliced days ago, the lettuce was cheap(iceberg) and also looked old, and the pickles were very sour. The condiments were all kept in a metal pan with melted ice keeping it cold. The problem would be if you went to use the condiment, it would leek water all over your plate and bun. NAAAASTY! But I am starving so I decide to brave it out. Get back to my table and look over my burger. The patty looks like it was a frozen patty and looks light for being a half pound. The bun is cold on one side and full of butter on the other side. Not very appetizing. But I am hungry so I take a huge bite and it is a solid pink. This might be ok if I knew where the ground beef came from but a frozen burger patty should never be served pink. The server asked if everything was OK and I told her my burger was undercooked. She said they cook all their burgers medium and that the cook can make me a new one. At that point, I remember that my wife made a great dish the other night and we still have leftovers in the fridge. I decide to cut my losses. The server really wanted to make it right but after looking at the condition of the burger topping bar and then being served pink ground beef, I decide I would be better off with leftovers. My 14 year old son can usually eat 2 or 3 half pound burgers in a sitting and even he did not like his burger. He said it was borderline OK but that it was close to being uneatable. This place needs to get rid of the burger topping bar and focus on quality. Ditch the frozen patties and french fries, stop serving your burgers pink(since most people do not like playing food poisoning roulette) and make sure you aren’t serving turned food(the kids mac and cheese). Overall a very subpar experience. I would not recommend going here. As far as food experiences go, it is a 2 tcompared to Grill Junkies solid 9.

Looking to try the newly opened restaurant, we didn’t have the highest expectations and that hasn’t changed after our visit. If you’re looking for an average meal, this is the restaurant to frequent . My biggest problem with the food here was that nothing tasted home made. We started our visit with a spinach and cheese fried pocket which was very good and cheese curds, which were decent but was served with what tasted like warm Hidden Valley ranch. The service was quick, in the fact that our food was served promptly. However, the beans were barely luke warm and the cheesy potatoes tasted no different than a frozen bag of Ore Ida O’Brien potatoes and cheese casserole that your Great Aunt who doesn’t know how to cook made last Thanksgiving. I ordered the broccoli for my children which was good however the side of asparagus was saturated and soggy with what the waitress said was canola oil; stick with broccoli if you go the veggie route . One thing they did well was the Brisket. Having just come from the National Bbq festival in Frisco CO I can confidently say that I know the difference between good and bad bbq. Although the brisket was sliced pretty thin it had a great smokey flavor and was better than I expected ;not worthy enough to enter in a bbq competition but still good . If you do frequent this establishment I recommend sticking with a basic meal such as the brisket and a side of French fries . Although the visit was pleasant(we had three children with us) my biggest issue with our experience is the fact that it is an open restaurant and we could hear our waitress talking about us in the kitchen … which is the best way to ensure a customer doesn’t return.
