Ohana Hawaiian BBQ

Never been in a food place that allows people to bring in animals. A lady brought in a dog and even filled up a cup of water and after the dog finished drinking out the cup she pours it back down the drink dispenser. She then picks her dog up and sits it on the COUNTER so it can look at the fish tank. Not one person in staff said anything. Makes me question the cleanliness of this place. Nobody even came to clean off the counter. Won’t be back the dog looked filthy. Only giving two stars because at least the food was good.

Came here for lunch today since I was looking around at the Ross Store in the same center. I ordered the mixed chicken plate (BBQ chicken and katsu chicken). I ordered a side salad instead of the rice and macaroni salad since I didn’t want all the carbs. I ordered my lunch to go so when they handed me my order in the bag, I left. When I got home no more than 20 minutes later, I looked at my order. The bbq chicken was burned (blackened around the edges), really dry, stringy and chewy, just like chicken jerky.
I called them right away and explained to them that I was not happy with my order and that I paid over 10.00 for chicken jerky and soggy salad. (The genius cook put all the hot food on top of the cold salad so the salad was just plain limp and soggy). The girl apologized and took my number. She said she would let the manager know. Needless to say, I haven’t heard anything. This place use to be so much better. L&L Hawaiian BBQ has the same plate and I’ve never had this problem with them. The only reasons I’m even giving two stars is because of the portion size, the katsu chicken was just alright (overcooked and dried out as well) and the girl over the phone was sincerely apologetic. When L&L opens on Coast Hwy., I’ll just go there. No need to waste my time or money eating here if they keep serving this kind of food.

Excellent! We were prepared to have an okay meal in a humble, fast food setting. And instead, a really delicious lunch, perfectly prepared chicken, tasty sides, huge portions. The staff is super friendly, smiling and efficient, and the dining room is spotless. It was a wonderful surprise.

It was my first time to any Hawaiian BBQ location, on that basis my Chicken meal was pretty good! White rice only a little disappointing time to add brown rice! Portion was very good! Employees very nice! I’d try it again! But bring a knife a fork, the plastic ones provided may not make it through the meal!

This is my personal #1 spot to get food in Oceanside. The people that work here are nice and kind. Food is in massive portions for under $ 10. The food is amazing for the most part, especially the Pineapple chicken and BBQ pork. Trust me. Always go two scoops macaroni with one scoop rice.
Anytime friends or family visit I take them here. They have messed up my order once but remembered me and their mistake when I came weeks later and gave me a free entrée! Without me even bringing it up.

This was a fast, fun, and tasty place. The portions were huge. We ordered the mix and match two items for me. I chose Pineapple Chicken and Pork. My husband ordered the #1 at the recommendation of the guy who worked there. He loved the meats he said the rice was and macaroni salad were just okay, but he says that about sides everywhere. :) I liked everything. I didn’t know the pineapple chicken was breaded, and I would have preferred ordering something else… but it was very tasty. I couldn’t eat even half of my food though it was so much, and my husband (who is a big guy and eats a lot) was full before his food was gone. Two people could easily share 1 dish. I would recommend trying this place if you’re wanting something fast and tasty.

Omg I have been to many Ohana locations and this is by far the worst one food wise that is! We got sick from the food! The hubs and I ordered loco moco and mix plate and we were so sick right after! Food lacked quality and flavor and we found out later also freshness. Needless to say never again!

Seriously amazing fish tacos!!! They’re huge and the sauce is bomb. The bbq chicken is ok, though. Cool little place.

The rice bowls are wonderful! Also the fish tacos are really good (surprisingly). Everything is batter fried and a little on the greasy side. Fast and friendly service, right next to the movie theater and shopping so it’s convenient if you’re hungry!

Got the pineapple chicken. It was okay, nothing I would come back for. Rice was pretty soggy. Also a bit overpriced for what you get. No plans to return.

I’ve had the BBQ (teriyaki) chicken, beef, and ribs so far, all were great. It’s a little on the pricier side (about $ 8.50 for a meat plate with rice and macaroni salad) but Hawaiian joints are usually that way and I always end up full and with leftovers (great the next day too!). TVs to occupy your wait time. They cook your meal fresh so I always end up waiting awhile (like 10 – 15 minutes). Friendly and helpful cashier.

We have ordered food from here multiple times but today will be our last time. I ordered a combo of Kalua Pig/​cabbage and Volcano chicken with sauce on the side. I ate the Kalua pig and thought that it wasn’t as good as usual. My husband tasted it and realized that it was old. It was very dry and seemed like it was reheated. Also, when I dipped my chicken in the sauce, it came out with a hair on it :(So gross. I couldn’t eat the rest of my food. Like I said, we have eaten here multiple times, not sure if this was just a bad day but I really don’t want to waste my money again.

I ordered the Kalua pork and was very tasty even comes with 3 sides more than the 2 you would get at L and L. Friendly staff and clean place great for a quick bite.

I got the BBQ chicken which comes with macaroni salad and rice. Everything is good for what it is, but I wish it came with a vegetable. The meal doesn’t feel balanced, and it certainly isn’t healthy, but if you want some flavorful chicken and white carb sides, this is the place to go!

If I could give them zero stars I would but anyways lets get down to the nitty gritty lol !
I’m all about good food && especially Hawaiian because my parents also owned a Ohana in the Cerritos/​Lakewood area, anyways. . I know how the katsu sauce /​volcano sauce /​etc every bit of this operation my husband and I were in the area watching a movie so why not support the chain && try some food that I’m so familiar with …

1.the wahine at the front got one stink attitude ! Smile spread some aloha getcha head outta Ya okole! If you like tips try and be a little more helpful ! She seems like she hates her job as much as I hated this food today … Anyways you get wamp 1 star for half ass service; secondly when someone asks you to sub veggies for the Mac because of a dairy allergy why wouldn’t u oblige ??? Whatever lol u can keep your minimum wage job booboo since your attitude sucks !
2.lets talk about the food …
Ordered the Reg katsu && a volcano chicken …
Lmao … Step one asked if they have mini plates … And she replies with «oh well they’re like the same price, but I would suggest the bowl» WTF if I wanted the bowl I would’ve ordered it from the jump !! So we get our food && holy sh*t the rice is UNDERCOOKED && SOGGY FROM TOO MUCH WATER ok I’ll deal with that … Let’s see getting on to the katsu … Lightly breaded not enough panko And the volcano sauce is too salty with too much soy sauce && worchester but whatever needless to say the haoles can have this joint lol …
ITS DEFINITELY NOT BROKE DA MOUT !! I’ll drive my ass to la for some exceptional service && food !!!

I come here weekly because of the super fresh food. The staff is really nice– very friendly. The fish tacos are a hidden gem– huge portions for the cost. I recommend the fish tacos, but only the shrimp tacos if you like a lot of breading on the shrimp. Overall– it’s a great lunch spot.

Some good stuff!!! Decent prices and quantities. Gotta work a little bit on service.
We love the food here. This is your classic Hawaiian grill. One of our families favorite for sure. The only challenge we have is they tend to get our order wrong. Has happened a few times. I always do take out. Never actually dined in. Sometimes I call in my order and me or my husband pick it up, other times I just place it when I get there. But for some reason they manage to get it wrong maybe 30% of the time. I know at other places they repeat your order back to you to make sure they got it right. That might be something they may want to start implementing. It is always younger girls taking my order, who maybe this is there first job so a little customer service training I think would be of great value. I also appreciate a little interaction when ordering, like suggestions or a break down of the menu, cause looking at a menu it’s hard to tell what things are if you haven’t tried them.
We usually order 3 BBQ mix plate. And usually get a few musubis on the side. The fish tacos are a lot larger than expected and only a dollar something (I think those are the best bargin on the menu) I ventured out and ordered the loco moco once, said to be an island favorite. It’s made of rice, beef patties with gravy and egg. I personally didn’t like it so much and went back to my BBQ chicken which I know I love! I hope to try other items because we been ordering the same things forever… lol!
I do wish that had some kind of dessert on the menu for my sweet tooth!
Pricing is decent too. I think it’s slightly cheaper too than other Hawaiian BBQ place which is always a plus in my book. All in all this place rocks!!!

The food at this Hawaiian BBQ is great! I’ve tried others but, I always come back to this one. The sauce is the best! The meat is always grilled just right. I always get the mix and match (BBQ beef and chicken). The macaroni salad is really good too. Try it you’ll be surprised.
