Rude dude. Who is shopping here? Am I in an alternate universal that a place like this is in business? I only bought some over priced drinks but is someone coming in here and saying to themselves«I bet this place has amazing gyros?»…not brave enough to try one but maybe I’d be surprised.

The Road Less Travelled– is less travelled for a reason. I walk into the(un)super market section of this modern day ghost town to see a selection that can’t be called much more than a hobby or play store, with enough items to set up and play store, like when you are a kid. The guy was happy to charge me too much for candy, but only had enough change for the occurrence of zero customers(I needed two $ 10s for a twenty.) He said«I’m not here to make change». I know that, numb nuts that’s why I bought your stale candy. Anyway, if you like to get away from people, especially helpful ones, come here.

I like this place for a tasty breakfast or lunch. Beside the nice people here, I appreciate their offerings of goat cheese and arugula items. Casual corner store with a bit of indoor and outdoor seating.

On my way from the dmv got a little hungry. Found this place. Quick and friendly service! Great coffee, and real tasty bagels.

Not much market selection. The deli menu is so poorly organized and presented it’s hard to tell what they have. The falafel was 2 ½ star, stale pita, blah sauce. But the cashier less than 0. He gave me $ 1.35,change from a 20(no receipt), and when I inquired the prices of my six pack and falafel he knew the prices — 9.99 pl tx and cdv. and 5.99 falafel. Still didn’t offer the right change, so I guess he’s skimming. Don’t know if he’s the owner or related, but it’s one more«convenience» store I won’t be going to.

My sister and I stumbled upon this little corner store while doing laundry across the street. I sent her over to get me «a sandwich», «surprise me» I said, what she came back with was the best lamb gyro I’ve eaten in years! I devoured it in about two minutes, making happy belly noises the whole time. I have since been back to do laundry three more times and I always come hungry for a gyro. It’s been delicious every time! Walking in, it looks like a typical city corner store, large drink/beer cooler, typical selection of junk food and basic pantry foods, but trust me, get a gyro from these guys!

At first glance, you wouldn’t know it, but this spot has the best gyros and sandwiches in the neighborhood. The guys who run it are always super friendly and put a lot of care into each and every thing they make. They also have amazing slow-smoked bbq sandwiches for sale out front on the weekends! A neighborhood hidden gem for sure.

Wally’s now officially has everything. I come here a few times a week to pick up supplies to fuel my vices, but today was a different day. A GLORIOUSDAY. I’ve been meaning to try their gyros for months. I have been remiss, but I know that the owners will not look down upon me for this transgression. They are that nice. Gyros. Oh my goodness gracious. Spicy, savory, and perfect. Yeah there aren’t cute little café tables for folks to plug in their laptops and drink a single coffee for 3 hours. You know what there is? Meat, beer, wine, and the friendliest folks to run a shop. Get in there already.

Stopped in for a quick visit. I was super pleased with their selection of organic teas! I talked with the owner for 20 minutes and which really made my day. He’s a very authentic fellow. I wish this store the best! Stop in for a tea and sandwich at this spot!

Love the lattes, the sandwiches, and the gyros! You must try their homemade pesto or their pickled spicy onion on your sandwich. It is a quirky neighborhood gathering spot, and yes it is kinda strange to have the market and café combined, but it works for me!

It’s an alright gyro but I’m always suspicious of ordering a gyro when I don’t see the giant meat cone in the back. Sadly, and this comparison wouldn’t come as naturally had this joint been named something else, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Wally’s Café in Emeryville which makes the best gyro in the bay area.

Thank you Wally’s World. I was really hungry and thought I would try a gyro, as advertised on their front sign. This was my first and it made a great impression. Super fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, along with chicken and sauce. A very good combo and wrapped skillfully in bread and foil, so I dropped not a delicious piece. I’ve lived close, in the area a long time, but just had not realized fresh food was so nearby. I will definitely be back for more.

Wally’s World Market used to be Helloakland — but sadly, nothing has changed but the name. Apparently, since reviews for Wally’s date back to 2007, they’ve been operating as one unit anyway. I’m consistently bamboozled by a) this place, & b) the reviews. Wally’s doesn’t know what it is or what it wants to be, and therefore fails at being much of anything. It’s not a café — while they serve coffee, it’s mediocre at best; it’s not a place to hang out and study — there’s one love seat, and it’s reserved for the dog; it’s not a restaurant because they don’t serve much in the way of food(a few sandwich & gyro options); and it’s not much of a convenience store, because they only carry a handful of items(hence making it not particularly convenient). I really want to like this place. Every time I go in, I hope to like it *this* time. The space has so much potential, it could be so much more. But they need to DO something! Be a café: put in some seats & tables so we can sit and read over coffee. Be a lunch place: add some items to the menu. Or be a grocer: go for gold and try to out-do Trader Joe’s with your selection of ice cream. But please, make up your mind!!!

This corner store has tons of potential. I only wish they were utilizing a bit more of it. In its current incarnation its tidier than it used to be but it still shows its roots — sandwich orders aren’t written down and have to be repeated a few times, the refrigerators are new but there isn’t any overheard lighting shining on them(in fact, the whole place feels a little dark to me), the set up of shelves is a bit haphazard. That said, the gyros are quite good and I will return for them again.

I live right across the street and the new additions to Wally’s have been AMAZING. I think I need to start a tab there. Beer. Wine. Gyro. Bagel sandwich. Bolani. Snacks. You name it. It’s all delicious. The gyros are really great and any sandwich with the habanero onions are superb. Its so convenient and pretty great quality. I’m also loving the new snack bins — dried mango, power bites, yogurt covered pretzels etc by weight in self serve bags. Awesome. The guy that owns the place is very very friendly too! The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is that sometimes it takes a while — but that means your food is made with love — and the ambiance is a little funny. It’s definitely on its way!

Wally’s market dispenses sammies(6.95), gryos, bagel sammies, ice cream sammies. on the grocer end they sell gourmet eats, wines, beers, deli items, chips, snacks. brew: mocha dark(berkeley coffee 2) –pretty smooth, med roast drink, addicting drips: –one guy does it all here. –doubting the sammies so went for the brew… fab.

Wally’s World Market is all that remains of the former Café Helloakland. It’s still fundamentally a half-empty convenience store with two(count ‘em, two!) ATM machines and a food counter featuring bagel sandwiches, coffee, gyros, and other random greek delights. I still haven’t figured out the off-kilter«crazy cream» signs on the exterior. Where Wally’s World lacks in style, ambience, and sign alignment, they make up for it in location and convenience. Plus, they seem pretty nice too, and the bagel sandwiches are almost as good as the place that came before. I’ll check ‘em out again to see how the gyros rate…

This is a great little shop near my workplace that also sells a pretty mean sandwich served on Semifreddies bread. Fancy toppings also include home made pickled onions, marinated pickles and home made pesto. Sandwiches are available in half sizes too, which is great for me. They also have convenience store type stuff and a large menu of ice creams including sundaes and milkshakes and coffee too.

When this was just a convenient store, I thought«Gee, they could do more with this space» but now that Devon has opened Helloakland on one side of this market, it’s now a very nicely organized little carry-out where you can get your standard chips & snacks but they also have quite a nice beer selection. Clean & tidy, with prices that will surprise you(in a good way!).

Wine. Check Beer. Check. Kegs. Check Postal Center. Nope(postal service ended in late Dec 07). In House Coffee Bar(Green Bean). Check. Pringles. Check Nearly every flavor of Kettle chips. Check. Eggs, Milk, Cheese, Bacon, and OJ. Check. 20 or so varieties of Ben and Jerry’s and Haagen Daaz. Check. Wally’s. The neighborhood wouldn’t be the same without it. Best Deals: The Casa Sanchez Salsa is cheaper at Wally’s then at Andronico’s(and it’s half the price and twice as good as the stuff at Market Hall Produce). Secret thing you need to know: Ice is available, but it’s hidden. Ask for permission to go get it. Wally’s. What would we do without you?
