Sorensen Properties

Moving from Kansas to Oakland, CA was a stressful endeavor and Sorensen Properties made it a very easy transition. They called to make sure we were safe on the road and were waiting for us at the apartment when we rolled in from our road trip.
Everyone who works for the company has been extremely pleasant and helpful. Anytime I need anything, they are quick to respond and take care of the problem. After going through many different property showings, it is clear to me that this is one of the good companies.

Absolutely horrid. Do not rent any of the places this family owns or manages!
I could see one’s rental experience being okay if the apartment is, and is kept in pristine condition, but when it is older and communication is necessary for repairs and the like, then I hope you’re recording all your calls with them. This could save you in any future litigation, and, one day, you’ll look back and laugh. Well, hopefully… that is, if you can find joy in how ridiculous people can be.
I’ve had a chance to speak to the owners on multiple occasions, whose names I will not mention here, but I will say that they seemed incredibly nice and well-​meaning to begin with. Then the fact that they’re 100 years old and «set in their ways» takes you on a ride you’ll never forget. They’ll say one thing; do another. They’ll take forever to do things. And, worst of all, they think they know what the «law» is, but are entirely misinformed.
With regards to the property, I have had a chance to meet other Sorensen’s as well, and they were all incredibly pleasant. The only qualm I had was that they did whatever they wanted and treated the complex like their own house. You’ll move in and wonder, «who’s repairing their car in the courtyard?», or «who’s collecting dog excrement in a make shift compost in the miniature doggy park», or «who are those people in the corner hoarding all their stuff in the hallway». Well, now you know… they’re Sorensens.
Knowing how competitive the housing market in the bay is, I guess they can really do anything they want and get away with it, but if you can, just hold out and rent from a property owner that takes pride in building relationships with their tenants. You’ll just be so much happier.
