Robotics For Fun

I am so sad to read about the really negative experiences some folks have had. We have only been involved with the weekend workshops, but my son has been going for several months and loves it! He has learned how to write computer programs for small Lego vehicles that include touch sensors and other things. He says that he’s proud of himself and his ability to program!
Jutiki has always been extremely helpful and kind when I’ve interacted with him.
The great thing about weekend workshops is that the kids work individually on their own projects. We had a bad experience at a Robotics «camp» through the Berkeley Chess School in which my son was paired up with three other kids. It wasn’t a pleasant experience for him at all.
As for girls, there are some. Wish there were more. But the ones I have seen have received ample attention. I’m afraid the reviewers here may have just had an unusual experience. I can tell you it’s not the norm.
The kids there seem to love it!
I highly recommend the 2 hour once/​weekend sessions. They really learn a lot and have a great time doing it.

Jutiki engaged our son for well over a year, learning patiently to program, play, troubleshoot, play again, get it right. From his first «robot», to a stellar group collaboration of robots… think robots working together to solve problems! Jutiki poses these thoughtful challenges to students, while they learn to work together, no matter what speed you’re working at. There’s room for everyone, and we have always had a positive experience.
If your child works well in a «lab» environment, and is really into robots, this course will allow them to get a real world grasp on how it’s done. The class is year round, and progresses at the students pace. There are clear and easy to understand instructions that are mandatory to get your amazing robot to do what you want it to do. Once they grasp the concept, the kids had fun creating new tasks for their robot to perform.

This is the most horrid camp my 10 yr. old child has ever experienced. After one day, going there with his friend, both kids did not want to return. They said that there was limited help from the instructors, that they were made to pair up with kids that just ordered them around, and that they were made to follow instructions exactly as written (no creativity), or else they would «call [their] parents». My son’s friend was in tears, and my son was very upset when I picked him up. When I told Jutiki, the owner, that we did not want to return and wanted a refund, he said «NO. There is nothing I can do». I told him that, in that case, I would send my son the next day but would stay and watch the camp because I was worried about him. It was then that he told me parents like me could not bring their kids back to camp. He told me that there was no way to help. He did not offer any solutions at all. He just told me we were not welcome there and refused to give me a refund. My friend’s son quit the camp and was able to get a refund through AmazonLocal, since that is where they got a voucher for this camp. I am out of luck, and will contact the Better Business Bureau. Summer camp is supposed to be fun. We have been to many camps and this is the first negative experience we have ever had. Shame on you, Jutiki, for offering no solutions for two 10 year old boys that had a hard first day at your camp.

If you have a daughter, don’t waste your money signing up for this class. The teacher and helpers only pay attention to boys and ignore student who are girls.

Our cub scouts love this place and had a great time. They made robotics simple and fun and did great handling even our most difficult scouts. Enjoy a walk around the neighborhood as your kids do the class and visit the bakery and coffee shop down the street.

Jutiki is a gifted teacher who has inspired my kids for many years. They’ve learned about engineering, physics, robotics, programming, problem solving, and teamwork. The atmosphere here is pure, joyful discovery for kids from elementary school through high school. Highly recommended.

Robotics for Fun is a great program for curious young people, from the beginner to the truly advanced. The graduated, project-​based learning meets kids wherever they are, and the opportunity to learn from one another as well as from the instructors is one of the greatest benefits of the program. If your child is a maker, a scientist, or both, you will want to try this local gem for yourself. And — from everything I’ve seen over the last several years — it really is fun!

Robotics for Fun is one of the perks of living in the East Bay. My son has been going for years now to participate in this wonderful, fun, learning program. I can’t speak too highly of Jutiki Gunter and his assistants, who help the kids to think creatively, solve problems, work together, present ideas, and build cool robots!
