Rite Aid

I went to this store to purchase a few groceries. When I checked out, the cashier was eating while ringing up my groceries. She continued to lick her fingers clean as she touched the Gatorade I was about to drink. It was absolutely disgusting, especially for a store with a mission to bring wellness to its customers.
I wrote to Rite Aid about my experience, and they told me someone from the store would reach out to me immediately, but I have yet to talk to anyone. That is again really disappointing. It makes me wonder what other health violations they acquiesce.

This place is kind of a mixed bag. Some of their pharmacists can be pill nazis, but by the same token they can tend to be very fast if and when they forget to fill things. the staff can be hard to find, and the rules and such a bit odd at times. If you can go somewhere else, do it, if your in a pinch, depending on who is working it can work out. Their in store prices do tend to be pretty good.

Eh, it’s aite… there’s a lot of crazies around the area during the day, but they’re pretty much harmless. My workplace is a couple blocks away so I’ll occasionally come here if I have a craving for some Thrifty ice cream. Walgreens is usually slightly cheaper for most things.

I usually love Rite Aid for their booze sales but this is a dry location. Let me discuss the other facets.

+ Located close to BART and my office
Cons:
— Hood rats were chillin out front
— No booze
— The location sucks in general
If 3 stars is «Meets Expectations», this is definitely a 2 star establishment because well. no booze.

After reading the other reviews posted here, I realize why I was treated so horribly by the store employee (s). I am not alone. I recently moved to this area, and found that the shop is more spacious and better arranged with variety of products than the Walgreen across the street. However, the rudeness and attitude toward customers are driving me away. Of course the individual mean employee doesn’t care if the store loosing business. I hope the rite aid management will take action. This area has been progressing economically as well as culturally very well. A good drug store is important to the community. Time to lay off and recruit to make changes.

As a loyal Rite Aid customer, I should probably go to counseling to understand why I continually go there. Oh… yea, I’m too lazy to switch all my prescriptions to another drugstore.
That said, I usually fill the Rx at Alamo Plaza and all the employees there are really nice, always a greeting upon entering and the pharmacist and assistants recognize me by name and always are pleasant.
That said, this Rite Aid is just consistently rude and unfriendly. You can see I’m not exactly an avid reviewer so if I’m writing it is because they deserve this review.
I simply bought a get well card. I was the ONLY person in line… I awaited a hand signal or head nod since her back was to me and she was busy either stocking or some other chore while I awaited. She finally turned and yelled «NEXT»! What? I’m the only one there. No hello… no thank you… nothing. I used my rewards card which she scanned… and just for good measure was sure to not thank me for being a rewards member. Not necessary, but might have alerted her I was at least loyal to the brand.
The last time I was there, I simply asked how to get someone to open the locked razor blade display. I did this as a quick question on the side of the counter and was yelled at to get in line if I had a question. I didn’t have another question… she could have just answered using the same amount of oxygen she expelled in her «not quiet» voice.
Before those two visits, it was merely very quiet… no greeting, no thank you.
So…I finally got the message. They don’t care about my business and now I don’t care about theirs. What this shows is that loyalty cards work… because I continually support a brand that is condescending and rude to customers. I will continually fill my Rx and buy from Alamo Plaza Rite Aid… but will now go to CVS or Walgreens anywhere else.

Ok, this area is scary, but that’s not the fault of the employees. I’m sure the workers have to deal with bad attitudes all day, so by the time they might get to you, they are just prepared to be defensive. I was here on business and had to come in on a Sunday afternoon (streets are empty except for the drug addicts). They had everything I needed and at the same prices as the stores at home back in Los Angeles. Ice cream is a nice treat on a hot day — Thrifty ice cream! I’m sure the workers don’t want to be there, but neither did I. I was respectful and friendly to them and so were they to me. If you are staying in the area (like at the Marriotts), go through the underground BART station if you have to walk out there during non office hours. Its safer than up above in the streets.

They literally are the worst Pharmacy I’ve ever had the pleasure of encountering. Their management of customers is appalling. Leaving people on hold for 30 minutes or more at a time. They’ve never been taught how to multitask their customers and it’s terrible. Leaving people on hold while you get your line down isn’t right. What if the only way I can get my scripts filled is to call in and then have a family member go get my medicine? They are terribly rude EVERYTIME they help me. EVERYTIME. They are the closest one to me and all the others are about 2+ miles away. Really, corporate needs to come and help this location. Seriously.

Always a long line. Hey management, spend an extra $ 12/​hour and get another checker.
Walgreens across the street is much better.

this Rite Aid is the strangest i’ve ever seen, design wise. aisles are diagonal to each other (45 degrees) not straight. the eye care section wasn’t even labeled. no liquor seen either. (understandable in this part of town).
worst part is a line waiting to check out. 2 stars for having a clean, neat store.

What’s diappointing about most pharmcies in this country is that they sell so much crap. For a place which is supposely about health, why are they selling cigarettes, beer, processed food, «health food» (really just chocolate bars aka protein bars).
Still, they fact that they also sell crap means they carry lots of stuff — although not the ink for the model of printer I have (Epson, not HP) — sometimes it’s useful to go there.
The store itself is OK, although it’s not immediately obvious there’s a huge back part. The staff seemed OK, but I imagine they have to deal with a lot of clowns wandering in off the street. You can go here, or across the street to Walgreens. That’s marginally better, with at least some produce, but not much of choice.

the pharmacy is really good. I got my medicines really quick and with my insurance, they offered me a flu shot! the woman in the front didn’t ask me for my riteaid card thing, which kinda upset me.

Man this place is the worst. Many of the ladies who work here just don’t give a… The only thing they seem concerned with is having the worst possible attitude, dirtiest look on their face, and generally transmitting as many hateful feelings as possible to every customer. Pharmacy here is just a joke.

Time: 1:17pm/61°F cloudy
Purpose: Needed to get a few basic traveling items.
Set-​up: It’s just an ordinary drugstore that carries your everyday needs and then some. Security guard posted in front entrance closely watching CCTV and greeting each person that walks in. There’s a pharmacy in back photo department and ice cream section (sold by the scoop).
Staff: I didn’t see one worker under the age of 30 in here walk a little more come to realized this place is all women workers. Some looks like retired and transition from other careers. Looks at everyone like they’re gonna steal something.
Cleanliness: Floors are sticky maybe a kid spill some soda. Some items on shelves already open before purchase. The thrifty ice cream sold in freezer needs a good scrub flavors of all kind leak on to the white wire meanings.
Eats/​Drinks: Pack of beef jerkey $ 3.99,bottle of Arizona tea $.99,luggage tag (2pk) $ 3.79
Products: Pharmacy, household, snacks, drinks, medicine, feminine, make up, baby, seasonal goods, discounted items, stationary, personal necessities etc.
Punch Line: Bart, coffee places, eateries, banks nearby. Slow workers, panhandling outside, bad foul smell, wreak of weed hovering around.
Final Thoughts: I wouldn’t trust my life in this place the workers here seems like there’d into themselves and don’t care about you. The advertisements said alcohol and liquor is so there but not at this location. Come in walk around get your stuff and leave don’t even turn back looking at the place because you’ll be caught slipping.

I never really shop in rite aid. So I am giving a four for the ice cream. I generally believe it is cheaper if I buy a pint of ice cream and eat it at home. But don’t you guys ever feel that after a long and bad day nothing beats ice cream for lunch time. The walk in ice cream at the counter is pretty nice and the price is pretty reasonable. I get to sampled what I want and it’s price is one of the cheapest near downtown Oakland. I based this on location because it is near my work place.

Where has customer service gone?
SLOW moving, non-​communicative, evasive, bored, unhelpful staff.
I’d rather shoot myself in the foot than deal with these morons.

It takes FORVER to get rung up… they have the slowest cashiers known to man. Extremely expensive and close at ridiculously early hours. One begruging star.
Though, the one sweet older lady with the glasses and her hair up is so nice and friendly that she bumps it up to two stars.
I hate living in downtown Oakland.

I’m a Walgreens girl, but the downtown one is so locked down that I can’t even buy eye drops, so I default to Rite Aid instead. I like it– but I know why crap is bolted down over at Walgreens. There is RAMPANT shoplifting going on. It bugs me.
I do like the variety offered in the store. I can find nearly anything I need, even pinworm medicine. When my daughter brought that malady home from school (shudder), I went on a desperate search to procure medicine, and found a Rite Aid was the only store with it in stock, and ending my child’s woes and protecting the rest of the family. Whew.
I also come here to buy last minute birthday gifts for children’s parties. They have a lot of good stickers, at supplies, stuffed animals and other items children like.
I also got my flu shot here 3 years running, and I have never ever gotten the flu.

Why does it always seem to take at least 10 minutes to check out? Why is my receipt for three items 19″ long? Why do I need some silly card to buy things on sale? Why do I end up here so often?

My first thought as I stand on the corner is to go to the Walgreen’s across the street out of habit but at last minute I change my mind…
I’m glad I did. Better pricing — instant rebates online and lots of BOGO!
Service was friendly and fast and they opened a new register when they say the lines getting long. Can’t beat that!
