Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir

Can’t wait for the upcoming album!!! This choir is the best of the best!

This musical group is an experience to remember.
Two years ago I saw them at my second Messiah singalong, known as Let us Break Bread, at Christmastime with the Oakland East Bay Symphony with Michael Morgan.
I only got to the theatre at halftime, because my beau at the time, who thinks anyone who lives in Oakland lives way to far away (you guessed it: he is one of the San Francisco guys) got to my house an hour late. Fortunately for us the choir was going on after the intermission.
The only word I can use to describe them without jumping out of my chair, seeing the color of their robes and the fabulous appearance and movement of their director, Terrence Kelly, is amazing. If I push for «exuberant» or «exciting», the guys in my office will rush to my desk and shoot me up with tranquillizers.
The music is creatively arranged, the singers have their hearts and souls in the performance and although I am not a religious person I am a music-​of-​all-​kinds-​fan. I bought their Christmas CD after that because I did not want them to leave the stage, nor did I want to leave my friend’s side or my seat. I am thoroughly a fan.
If you ever, ever have a chance to see the OIGC, do it. You will have the time of your life. I wish I had been able to go to the MLK celebration at the Scottish Rite Temple because OIGC was there. Run, run to get their tickets whenever you see their name.

as you can tell from my stats, even if i like something very much, i don’t really give 5 stars, but dang, I LOVE this choir!
the first time i saw the choir, it was at their holiday concert at the Paramount Theater in 2004 and i was BLOWN AWAY…
i love their message, and i love the music… i sang in a gospel choir in college, and i never heard music like them before!
if you don’t like gospel music, still go, because it’s not only about the religion, it’s about spirituality… it’s not only «yelling» music (as i’ve heard some folks describe gospel), it pays tribute to its roots with acappella negro spirituals, and traditional classical styles songs… it’s not just a choir, it’s a top notch GOSPEL ACADEMY (among others) AWARD WINNING choir.
their holiday concert is ALWAYS the first Saturday of December at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, so put it on your calendar now, and you can buy tickets starting in October if you know someone in the choir…
christmas/​holiday decorations come out the day after thanksgiving, but as a local pastor said, (and i’m paraphrasing) it’s not REALLY the holiday season until you’ve gone to see the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir
how do i know all of this? because after i saw them sing in 2004, i auditioned and joined them in 2005 ;) so hey, that means you can get tickets from me, even before they’re released to the general public!
