I’ve been living in Atlanta for a few years, but I’ve found nothing that compares to the amazing food at Las Palmas. I’m saddened to hear this location has closed! My favorite was always a shrimp burrito with extra sour cream. Hopefully when I come home, one of the other locations will still be open.

I’m very sad to see that this place has closed. It was owned by a Korean man, and they put some kind of special spices in their meats which made it awesome. They had several different salsas, including a delicious Asian style sweet and spicy sauce. The pico de gallo was excellent. It was a cheap and satisfying meal to get the cheese quesadilla and cover it with pico de gallo.

I LOVED this place and have been going for years. They have the best burritos and sauces. I’m SO sad to have discovered they are no longer there. Does anyone know if they moved? My husband and I were craving their food and when we got there, there was paper covering all the windows. :(I’m SO sad.

I’m fully convinced my experience there, while very poor, was an isolated incident. Went there on a Friday night. Not late in the evening, but evidently very close to their closing time. We had only stumbled in because Zachary’s across the street had a line down the block. There was no one inside, including cooks. The lady who took our orders at the counter was also the cook? There was one other employee who was finishing up a late night snack in the back and then refused to help cook our food. Result, a very sloppy burrito with some stale ingredients. I’m hopeful for a return visit and a better product overall.

Las Palmas has an interesting menu, pricing wise, probably applies to burritos and probably everything else too: –regular: beans, rice, pico de gallo sauce –raditional: add cheese –las palmas: add cheese & guacamole *each level is a little pricier eats: chii verde chicken(4.95) choose black bean –decent sized burrito, not too small, not godzilla sized –plenty of tender(bland) chicken –salsa unexpectedly spicy hot, salsa overly salty –totally satified with regular, don’t need guac and cheese. –chips ok, not totaly fresh, not stale either 3.5 stars frijoles refritos: –authetic? not sure. good value, tasty –room to sit and eat.

All beans are vegetarian. Inexpensive enchilada plate with green sauce and rice and beans was perfectly portioned for a hungry eater. My friend got a vegetarian burrito and enjoyed it. Our lunches plus two Mexican cokes cost $ 14. You can’t really beat that for a taqueria. Vibe inside was really mellow about 2 pm on friday afternoon. Great place for inexpensive and tasty eats. Also, since I’ve moved to the Rockridge area, I’ve been to this place over a dozen times. For a while I didn’t think the owner recognized me, which made me feel less attached to this place. Like come on, man! I come here every tuesday after school, you should know what I order every single time by now! Anyway, recently, the owner has begun to recognize me and though he doesn’t always remember what I order, I definitely feel like a regular and that’s really cool.

This was the best burrito I have ever eaten. I have eaten a lot of burritos. I came here before a dodgeball game and ordered a tofu burrito. I was kinda skeptical because there was only an old asian dude running cash register and a small latina working over a very clean grill(I thought there would be no flavor because of the grill, but I was WRONG). The prices were fair, the rice was good, and the tofu didn’t taste tofu-y. There is a salsa bar. I am going to go out of my way to visit and revisit this place.

Let me say that I was skeptical when I walked in here. First off, they had an older Asian man at the front register… which is always sketchy in my book when someone of a different ethnicity managing/cooking food that weren’t essentially a part of their culture. Not to be racist at all, but it’s like the same concept of going to a Japanese restaurant with nothing but white folks working the sushi bar. I’m just saying… But after I looked over his shoulder, it wasn’t him who were managing the kitchen, which gave me a sigh of relief. Burrito was good. Juicy carne asada. The salsa was mediocre. Atmosphere is nothing fantastical. Bottom line: it’s alright. It gets the job done.

If it were just the food it would be 4 stars. You just can’t but feel like you are part of an airline-esque cost-cutting program when the salsa cups are like thimbles and you have to pay for tortilla chips. And the owner has neither animo nor gusto.

While exploring in Rockridge one day, my husband and I did a lot of walking and shopping when we suddenly realized we were famished. After checking out menus at a handful of places nearby, all fairly reasonably priced, we settled on this one, and we were glad we did. We both ordered and were happy to receive their ginormous taco salads: the hubby’s with chicken, mine with grilled vegetables. We were super happy with the fact that both came with sour cream and guacamole already. So many places nickle and dime you for a tiny scoop these days. We hit the salsa bar for some toppings and chowed down. The crispy bowl tasted awesome and we guessed it was made there fresh. The service was friendly and efficient, too. The Verdict: A yummy lunch, indeed. I may venture back to try other things!

How I wanted to write a better review. First, let me start with something positive and rare: ALL their beans are vegetarian. No lard, no chicken stack, nada. That is FANTASTIC! I’ve been here twice. Loved it the first time, second time, not so much. Found chicken in my vegetarian burrito which is an immediate turn off. I will give them one last chance since they are vegetarian friendly. Cons: 1. Found chicken in my veggie burrito 2. Nachos could use more cheese(and melted) Pros: 1. All their beans are vegetarian 2. Good veggie options 3. Decent salsa bar(which we took 6+ salsas, so there wasn’t a limit) 4. Good prices

Not terribly impressed with this place but they have one thing that makes me come back over and over. that’s the Las Palmas grilled chicken burrito with everything. They even have a nice salsa bar. The other stuff is okay if not a little on the bland side. But I’ve found the staff pretty friendly. I like that they sell beer and jarritos too.

Largely forgettable, I’m afraid to say. And for the same reason, I don’t have anything else to add…

After reading the reviews, I wasn’t quite sure how things were going to turn out here. Everyone seems to have a love /hate relationship with this place. I’m not really sure why people are complaining about customer service at a taqueria, but anyway… After living in the Mission for years, I didn’t have high expectations. I played it safe and ordered the carne asada«Las Palmas» burrito, which is their super. The burrito was really tasty. The mix of ingredients was perfect and their roasted tomatillo salsa was awesome. My only complaint would be that the meat was a little overdone and could have been a bit more tender. All in all though, I’ll be coming back.

Screw the crunchy tacos, this place is not worth it. I thought their grilled veggie tacos in a crunch shell for $ 2 was worth the shit service, but after one last trip here last night… nuh-uh. The people who work here suck at what they do. They give you a number, but don’t bother to call it out when your order is ready. At least not loud enough to hear it in the totally empty place. I get attitude with every request. What a crap hole. Seriously. When there are myriad options in Rockridge, why would anyone pay to be treated like shit?

I’ve had good meals here in the past, but last night was a problem at every step. First I called and rather than being put on hold, I was hung up on. Then I called in an easy order(three burritos, some with cheese, some with guac) which took several minutes because there was a language barrier. No problem, I can speak enough Spanish to order … but that’s not the language of the person taking the orders. Okay, we’ll just confirm the orders … corrected three times … finally read them and it was right. Arrive at the restaurant: order not ready because not sure if I ordered«no cheese» or «more cheese» or «nacho cheese»(something they don’t offer). I tell her, «with cheese» — «no problem.» We get some of the many, very good salsas(in too small cups) while they finish our order. Arrive home: not a single one of the orders was correct. Each item had something it shouldn’t or was missing something(including the cheese from that last order). There are too many other Mexican places nearby to make up for the hassle — I might return after a year or so in the hopes that the staff changed and are better at taking orders accurately. Too bad, otherwise they have good ingredients and great salsas.

I’ve been coming here since 1999(11 years old) and I always get the chicken nachos. THEYAREKILLER! Add the sweet chili sauce from the salsa bar to put it over the top! The prices are fantastic, the steak or chicken quesadilla is a great starter to split between you and a couple of friends. James, the owner is so nice, I feel like he’s family. When I came home from college back in Oklahoma, I was so excited to get to see him and order some delicious food! Honestly, this place can not be beat for the best Mexican food(and I moved here from Texas…) on Earth. So delcious and the prices are spot on. Every person I’ve brought here raves about it!

The evening started out at the Graduate where I planned to participate in my first DYL event. I had settled down in front of the TV(Twins vs. Rays) with a Racer IPA and salty popcorn and awaited the Unilocal hoards to arrive. Unfortunately, my work pager went off and I had to leave without seeing the basement or the new bartender who came on later. I spent the next hour or so walking up and down College Avenue with the phone in my ear addressing this particular work issue. After things were resolved, I just didn’t feel like going back to the Graduate and decided just bag it and go home. But I was hungry and there was Las Palmas in front of me. I ordered a quesadilla with chicken«to go» in this very empty establishment(especially for a Friday night). The service was adequate and the food was tasty, albeit unremarkable. No complaints, but nothing to write home about either.

CAUTION: The Las Palmas salsa bar exists in opposite world. The big fresh chunky pico de gallo salsa, which is completely mild in any other restaurant, has huge chunks of raw jalapeño in it and is crazy spicy(and delicious). Meanwhile the dark, angry red smoked red tomatillo salsa looks and even tastes like a 5 alarm hot-sauce but is actually completely mild(and delicious). Our meal would have been 3 stars, save for the steak and the snake. The carne asada was awesome. Perfectly trimmed and seasoned and grilled into little bites of deliciousness. We also got a show with our meal. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the moment. When the manager stepped into the restroom the girl behind the counter ran out to her car, got a wooden toy cobra and put it on the floor in front of the bathroom door. She then proceeded to hide behind the little fake tree. When the manager came out, he screamed, grabbed his chest, and fell back against the door. Then the girl jumped out and scared him more. It was the funniest thing. So thank you soooo much for some awesome food, and a good prank.

Wow! Good Mexican food on College Avenue? I almost gave up hope. I got sick at the Burrito Shop and I was fearing that my Rockridge Mexican experience would be the yuppie food at Cactus. This is what I get for rarely venturing to the other side of the freeway. The Chile Verde is exceptionally good, however putting it into a burrito can be a messy proposition. Awesome but messy. Chips were OK, salsa bar was good and so was the Horchata.
