Great fish oysters and shrimp. Don’t want to review and let folks know about this place but got to show love to a place that serves cornmeal crust in corn oil = gluten free!

Lets start off with customer service… Joshua is so sweet… he was helpful with helping my cousin choose the food she wanted…(2 stars) After going back and forth she finally decided to get the 2.2.2. Deal(2 prawns, 2 oysters, and 2 pieces of fish with a small side my cousin got potatoe salad) she smacked and hummed the entire time she was eatting.(2 stars) then i tasted the sweet potato pie… when i say baby this pie is truely everything… it really is… if you havent tried this family owned hidden gem on fruitvale HURRYOVERTHERE!!!

This was my first time here and I ordered a two piece fish(bass) and prawn with fries for $ 8. It was delicious. What most fish places do understand is that fish needs to be cooked in cornmeal. Not some flour hybrid mixture!!! My fish was crunchy on the outside, soft and flaky on the inside and seasoned to perfection. I also ordered a slice of sweet potato pie, which was good too! I had no idea this place existed until parked in front on my way to the Filipino restaurant across the street. I don’t know if it is considered to be cultural appropriation, but I found it to be hilarious that the Filipino restaurant was blasting rap music into the street while the black owned restauranteurs chose a more modest approach. Anyway, I digress. You want fried fish? Skip las palmas and come here.

Snapper, snapper and tilapia and sides are plentiful as well as flavorful. Customer service was a 10 very southern and down home hospitality at its best. The oysters and hot sauce out of this world I’m tempted to grab just a few everytime I Drive down Fruitvale and see the store yum yum yum yummy yum yum yum. Now there’s another good fish place on Fruitville they have a zatarains out the box flavor but don’t get it twisted they do not compare to Joshua’s.

I love this place so much. Period. 6 piece prawns and that awesome potato salad and, ok I won’t lie, a side of fries, and my foul mood is long gone. Thank you for making my night again. Yes, I came here last night. And came back tonight. Because it’s that good.

Been eating his food since I was 13 years old, do the math I was born 1969. He use to be on the corner of East 27th street right next to Everette and jones BBQ place. With the right marketing and City leaders Joshua should be doing business in Jack london Square. Being that he works alone and things are rough he still manages to put out a awesome product. Las palmas is a joke… Joshua use to keep kids of the streets with video games inside his old place while you wait for the order, the game was Mr.Do. His business should be called Mr. Do We use to call him Mr. Do…

I generally no longer eat food like this regularly. However, I was in the mood for something other than the standard rice, beans and vegetables or Mexican/Asian cuisine that is my diet. Joshua’s came to the rescue. Quick, friendly, inexpensive satisfying food. I am guessing from the catfish on the menu, its chili sauce and the fact that it serves sliced bread with its meals that there is some creole influence. Small place, but a nice man serving some good satisfying seafood at a reasonable price. If you are looking for fish for lunch or dinner, you should check this place out. If you know you are going, and going to order a larger family type meal, it might be best to call ahead. He can count on me returning next time I am in the mood for something other than my standard diet.

In my opinion this is an excellent choice if you have a taste for seafood! If you are on a lunch break or just in the area you can stop in or call in, the food takes just 10 – 15 min. Always made fresh, the fish is well seasoned with a great flavor. The quality is good, white meat! And yes is it owned by a mature man who is a one man show, but he does a good job maintaining and being consistent! I have a salon a few blocks up and we frequently order and have only encountered a few occasions that he is not open. But he is normally open between 11−7pm daily, and when he isn’t there rightfully so he is taking the day off. Oh and last but not least the lunch special is unbeatable, $ 4!!! You can choose fries or potatoe salad which are both good! The question is why wouldn’t you go here?
