Another great restaurant bites the dust. Thick place no longer exist. At least not at this location.

The ramen sucks here! Its not legit. The egg was only a hard boiled egg. the seaweed tasted like it had dirt on it, and the pork was hard. When i ordered the girl didn’t tell me if she got my order in and once I said what I wanted she didn’t say ANYTHING and walked away. No «OK got it», «thanks», or «anything» Service+ food .not a good experience. Don’t think I’ll be going back.

Had the ramen and handroll combo, very slow service, bland soup, overcooked noodles, overcooked pork, and amateur handroll, bleh…

I would agree with most of the reviews on here so far. The lunch bento is the most worth it item to get on the menu. I got the bento with chicken teriyaki + 6 california rolls, and tempura. I gave away my CA rolls plus the shrimp tempura but still finished my meal feeling full but not stuffed. The rest of the bento items were pretty standard, nothing memorable in terms of quality. One thing I didn’t like was that they only gave you soy sauce for the sushi. There was no tempura sauce that I’m accustomed to getting at Japanese places. The non-bento dishes(particularly the rice/donburi dishes) were very small for the price and probably not worth it, especially if you’re hungry. The gyoza appetizer was good but again, also very small and petite… definitely not worth the $ 5 for 6. Our service was good but we were the only party at the time.

So bad. sushi hand roll: wilted brown avocado with the stem still on it– wasabi so old it crumbled when we touched it. not good. my udon: served with metal shard in it. dealt with nicely by staff? no. should I have had to pay for it?

First, the service was great. No complaints in that department. But… Went for ramen, and decided to get a few pieces of nigiri too to see how it is. The food was really disappointing. The nigiri were very bland. The sushi rice was quite good, but the fish had so little flavor all I could taste was the rice. The fish was dry with unappealing texture. The ramen was similarly bland. No flavor in the broth, meat, or noodles. The noodles were far too soft, and the meat was tough. So sad.

The sushi is ok. They are expanding their selection to include Korean food. The prices are ok. Not the best, but manageable.

Beware! The food is mediocre as it can get! I had the bento box with sashimi, tempura and gyoza. Gyoza is the cheap, frozen kind(and they only give you one), 3 tiny pieces of tuna sashimi wasn’t fresh, and the tempura was overfried in old, stale oil. The waitresses were slow as snails and inattentive, the food and the bill took forever to come. And to top it all off, they billed my credit card more than the total that I had written in on the bill!!! Are you serious??? Never ever again. Go to Ichiro on Webster and 15th for fresh, authentic Japanese food for the same price. Ichi Japon is total BS, avoid at all cost.

I work down the block from this cute little restaurant. It is near the tattoo place and Phở 84(which is an overpriced racket!) and across from the Blue Sky Coffeehouse. I normally order the Osaka bento box lunch with sashimi and salmon teriyaki. The food is decent. I wouldn’t say it’s spectacular but nor is it bad. I like their sushi rolls a lot better. All in all, they are reasonably priced Japanese food that is super convenient. It’s a nice place to have a conversation with a friend or co-worker because it is quiet. However, they will not bring a pot of complimentary green tea as you are seated. You need to order that separately. I wish they had a better selection of sake, but I guess that’s a good thing since I am not trying to get sloshed at my lunch hour and come back to my office buzzing.

Met with a friend here for lunch, per her request. She’d been a few times and is a fan — I am now as well! The place is pretty small(looks smaller on the outside than it is, though). We came in at noon and it was pretty empty, but that meant our service was quick! We both ordered Udon Noodle Soup, but people around us were eating Bento boxes, which seemed like a pretty great deal(if only the offered vegan!). It was my first Udon experience(I know, give me a break, I’m from Montana), so I don’t really have anything to compare it to, but it was a huge serving and I was stuffed for the rest of the afternoon. I do wish there had been a few more veggies in my bowl, but like I said, I was stuffed when I finished up. The bill came up to about $ 18 for the two of us, which seemed fair for the amount of food we got. Note, however, that there is a minimum of $ 10 on a card.

Place is alright. The service is definitely a bit slow. I mean for the price, you can’t complain. I’ve had their sushi here and also a couple of their bento boxes for lunch. I mean it’s not the best quality Japanese food or anything, but from the few Japanese places around the area… you can’t complain. I haven’t been here in a long time, but I’d definitely come again if I’m in the mood for some Jap food!

This place isn’t THAT bad, it’s pretty quiet during dinner so we dropped in as Phở 84 looked jam packed as usual. The food was pretty good and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. The portions were nice and generous for the bento dinner I had. Stop by for a quick bite in this quaint neighborhood.

Crappy Mondays call for… sake bombs! Instead of hitting up the Layover or 355 as usual, my co-worker and I were hungry after work and made it in time for Ichi’s happy hour which is from 5 – 8 p.m. $ 4 large Asahi(small is $ 2, but you might as well get the large) $ 4 for large sake Sushi rolls are decent — nothing spectacular or amazingly fresh but still good.

This is the most reliable Japanese lunch spot for me near work. The food is fine, nothing tremendous to report, but it’s about the quality you’d expect in such an area. I usually go for one of the bento boxes(all priced around $ 9.99). They give you a huge amount of food with the 4 different options. All of them come with miso soup, salad, rice, tempura(veggie and shrimp), and one gyoza. The only differences between them are if you want California roll(fake crab), tuna sashimi, chicken terriyaki or salmon terriyaki(you get two). The staff is nice, and I always count it as a plus when I go to an Asian eatery that accepts credit cards(not racist, just a fact). If you work in the area, Ichi Japon is a nice place to go, but don’t go out of your way to come here. Though I could be convinced to come here after work due to the attractive happy hour offerings.

Factors that made me underestimate Ichi: location, mediocre Unilocal, and cheapness. But my undying love for all things cheap and walking distance from my place couldn’t keep me away from Ichi for too long. Happy hour: * 5−8p * $ 2.50 for hand rolls(spicy tuna = fresh and they are not sheisty with the fish) * Asahi: $ 4/lg, $ 2/sm Besides having a happy hour that includes food, another thing I love about Ichi is that the dinner menu is cheap enough for my financially-challenged butt to order from. A 2 item bento is under $ 9 – do try the spicy pork if you’re into delicious thinly sliced meats(fill up my trough with this and this little piggy will be going wee wee all the way home… or going huff huff with my pants unbuttoned, all the way home). Oh, and the chicken katsu has the most perfect«fry» crispiness. Our bill came to ~$ 40(sans tip) for a 2 item bento, 2 hand rolls, 1 shrimp tempura roll, 1 spicy hamachi roll, 1 large Asahi, 1 small Asahi, and 2 small hot sakes. Umm, yeah… time for a high school throwback: I think I jock you, Ichi. And your name don’t lie… you are my #1. Menu:

My favorite place is literally a block away from Ichi Japon. I cheated, and payed the price! My goal was to try new places, to see what was out there. The best thing about coming here was that I can add it to my sushi list; that’s about it. I honestly can’t really remember what I ordered. It involves the usual suspects: Nigiri like Sake, Ika, Ikura, and probably a spicy tuna roll. The Miso soup was a little fishy. Good Miso soup is not this fishy in taste. The restaurant was empty when I walked in, but packed when I left. I was a little disappointed at how long it took for my food to come out. I had clearly ordered BEFORE the lunch rush even came in. The waitress was nice, but seemed like she was a bit new at her job(?) Didn’t seem to know a lot about the menu and placed all my food almost on top of each other… it was just a little bizarre. I will never cheat on my spot ever again(especially within a 1 block radius).

A small group of my co-workers and I went here for lunch recently. I haven’t been here for a long time now but Yao Y. convinced me to give it another try. My conclusion — the Bento Box should definitely the only reason I should go here(as I previously stated). I made the mistake of ordering the Fried California Roll and Tempura Roll. The quality and taste didn’t change from my last visit; however, the portion and how it was rolled did. The portion shrunk and it fell apart easily. How can something deep fried fall apart? Plus, my food which was the simplest order out of our group of 6 was the last to arrive. Anyway, aside from that, I was content with my lunch order but I couldn’t help looking over next to my co-worker’s Bento Box. So much food for $ 10!!! I should ALWAYS remember to order the bento on my future visits here at Ichi Japon(and yes, you heard right… «future visits»). Even though my food came late, service was great. They were very apologetic and kept our tea cups filled(never saw the bottom) and would check in with us to see how we were doing. I like the«Tokyo» Bento Box which comes with California Roll, Chicken Teriyaki, and obviously the standard soup, salad and rice. The additional«stuff» that other Japanese restaurants don’t usually add were Tempura and Gyoza. At Ichi, those items are standard for the boxes. Didn’t I say you get a lot more? There were other different boxes also(Osaka, Japon and Yokohama). I like the«Tokyo» Bento Box which comes with California Roll, Chicken Teriyaki, and obviously the standard soup, salad and rice. I agree with the 3-star rating a lot of people have given this place. I don’t think that there is anything anything outstanding about this place. The avocado roll I had was really delicious, but the soba noodle salad was not very tasty, and the dressing they gave with it was so unsatisfactory that I ate most of it plain. The service is great and the prices are reasonable enough. The happy hour is worth taking up and the guy who makes the sushi is fun to talk to if you sit at the bar.

Oooohweeeee did the poki roll and the spicy hamachi roll make my head sweat! It was a lot more spicy than my liking. I just couldn’t enjoy the sushi. I shoulda known better than to order both sushi rolls spicy. Husband ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box plus a spicy tuna roll. Bento box had large portions of chicken, tempura, CA roll, rice, and salad plus the price wasn’t bad either — $ 10. He was pretty darn happy with his meal and left with his belly full while I learned my limits of spice. The menu was pretty extensive with reasonable prices. It seems that they attract the lunch crowds since the place wasn’t at all crowded at 8 p.m. They do offer a Happy Hour, 5 – 8 p.m.
