Greyhound Bus Lines

So far, every time I took the Greyhound busses, I have only ever had good experiences — friendly people looking out for their customers, humor, being on time and very efficient :) Can recommend the buses!

I’m shocked this place even has two stars. I have never had an experience here that ran smoothly. There is no customer service and the night «security» is extremely rude.
I walked up at 1am to take the 130am departure from Oakland to Sacramento and both doors are locked. There is an employee sitting on the table where the security checks for hazards/​dangerous items and the security is talking with the employee. I knock, I knock again, I knock harder and no go. I used my key and finally the security turns over. He signals to use the other door as if I already didn’t JUST do that. He comes over and opens the door and asks «what do you need»? With an attitude of he can not be bother like he was volunteering or interning for security patrol.
I approach the counter and the security rudely addressed me with his tone to come to the table to check my bag. The employee was still just sitting there as if he owned this franchise greyhound. I had to turn over at him and gave him that «really? You’re just going to stay your ass seated»? Look. And finally moved.
Avoid this place if you can help it.

THIS WAS THE WORST TRAVELLING EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE. NEVER TAKE THE GREYHOUND BUS. We got to the station at san pablo, having already pre-​bought the tickets online for the 11;30 pm bus to go to LA. As the bus started to load, the staff told us that they were only going to take the first 30 people, and then proceeded to call us each by our boarding numbers. My friends and I were numbers 38 – 43. So they just told us we couldn’t get on the bus, and that we could either get a refund for our tickets, or wait until the next bus. WE decided to wait until the next bus, and so they told us that the next bus would be at 3 am. Reluctantly, we agreed that we would stay and take that bus. Then, they proceeded to tell us that we had to go to the greyhound station in san francisco, so they took us on a bus and drove us to the station in SF. Once there, we sit and wait for our 3 am bus on metal, ridged chairs that make our bottoms numb. There were many other people there sleeping who had been at the station for more than 12 hours already, waiting for their bus. At 3 am, no bus shows up and there are absolutely no staff at the station for us to even talk to. At 4 am, we finally see one staff walk in, so we ask him and he claims that the bus is coming. When we ask again, the staff say that they actually have no idea where the bus driver is but that they are trying to contact him. 30 minutes later, we get updated that the bus driver just woke up and is getting to the station. They say that the bus will be «here in 30 minutes». It is now 5 am and there is no bus. We ar still at the station now and it is 7:30 am, and there is still no bus at the station. The staff are now telling us that they don’t have enough money to refund us for the tickets as well. Meanwhile, another bus just departed from the station, which was supposed to depart at 5 pm the day before. This is the absolute WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WORST ORGANIZATION I have ever experienced in a company. I don’t understand how they have not been shut down yet. They are extremely unprofessional and I have now been at a bus station for more than 9 hours. I was supposed to be in LA an hour ago yet I am still at the same station in san francisco. However, the story unfortunately does not end there. Once we finally board the bus and depart the station at 8 am, we travel for a couple hours, and lo and behold, our bus just stops on the road. It is now 12 pm, we haven’t had food since 11 pm when we got to the station in Oakland, and we may or may not be stuck on the I-​5. We are asked to wait a while as the bus driver tries to fix the engine on the side of the freeway in a grass field. Luckily, he was able to jumpstart the bus after 10 minutes, and we were able to be on our way. We finally reached the LA Greyhound station at 6 pm. Everyone on our bus wanted a refund, but they said that in order to request a refund we had to wait in a line of around 20 people to fill out a form explaining what had happened — which probably is not going to be effective in getting us a refund. In conclusion, I am now traumatised by riding buses and hope that no one else has to experience a worse traveling experience than we did with Greyhound.

The absolute worst bus service! This was my first and LAST time riding with greyhound. My bus was scheduled for 12:00pm leaving Oakland and arriving in Los Angeles at 9:00pm. The bus never came!
Don’t give this shitty ass company business. Instead ride with Megabus, they are always on time and have really good customer service, oh and you can also have your ticket scanned from your smartphone unlike greyhounds policy of having a printed ticket in hand.

Very rude people working here. If the door is supposed to be open at 5:30 and it’s know 6:00. wtf. Who wants to be standing outside on san Pablo ave.

Oakland Greyhound I noticed on the way back home you changed the animal station that showed animals being killed on farms and burned on fire. Thanks for putting on a cooking show (station). Thanks for listening to my concerns and comments and you have redeemed yourselves. Job well done.

If it was possible to give this station 0 stars, I definitely would. The customer service is horrible; the person who I talked to didn’t try to help and was very condescending. There were no announcements for whether the bus was late or not, and when I tried asking the person at the counter whether bus had arrived, she told me she didn’t know. How does that make sense since that’s her job?! Worse station ever!

Today is Christmas and I was on my way to Sacramento. I was waiting in line and some Asian family was before me and they were denied seats because they couldn’t fit them on the bus. So the driver walked away and I asked him when he came back if he could let me on the bus and he said no because they were full… now how in the world can the bus be full when I purchased a ticket before today? He told me to talk to the lady at the desk who told me that there were four seats available. Here’s the funny part the bus left already. Now I won’t be able to say goodbye to my family because they’re on a flight to Europe. Hopefully I’ll see them in 10 years but maybe greyhound will mess up my chance of seeing them again. I guess this wasn’t such a Merry Christmas after all.

Bus was supposed to come 2 hours ago and customers are still waiting… The customer service representative is rude! Instead of apologizing she even started bullying… I threw the tkt away and left the bus station with a worst experience ever.

I am mortified by the service at this bus station. I usually ship packages to my family in Florida and on October 1, I took a package to Greyhound and it has never arrived in Florida. I have called, visited this station no less than 50 times, to no avail. My sister went to the station in Florida and within 4 days, it was obvious there was a problem as the box couldn’t be tracked, yet the Oakland station insisted that I «give it time». The staff at this station was rude and very evasive. I contacted Corporate in Dallas and they attempted to put a tracer on it, to no avail… the local station again we’re very nonchalant about my despair.
On November 1, the package hadn’t arrived, I met with Pat the supervisor of the package department and she placed a tracer on the package, which had not been scanned into the system as ever leaving Oakland, and. I was told to «wait».. . And after several more weeks I was told to come into the station to put in a claim, which I did… it was THEN that the station manager said he would look on the camera to see if he could see where the package wet. After waiting an hour I was told, the package was seen on the camera coming in, but it appeared that the package never was put on the bus… BUT ithe camera shows it didn’t get scanned onto a bus. And this is now 7 weeks later. I put in a claim on 20 November and left there in tears… this box contained gifts for my great nieces and nephews, classroom books valued at over $ 200; the clothing that were mailed were for my 14 month old great, great nephew and represent coats, shoes, and items much needed by his parents who are struggling.
The items that can’t be replaced are pictures of my nephew that was murdered in 1998, that we’re prints (before digital) that span his life from birth until he was slain, which were invaluable. The cavalier attitude of the staff is the most intolerable. I called so much they knew my voice and would say the persons I was looking for weren’t in, I was told that the station manager had already looked on the camera in October… yet when I was in the station in November that was the first time the tapes had been consulted.
It’s now been three weeks since I put in the claim and corporate states the claim has not been sent to their office, therefore the claim was not being processed. However in my hearts of hearts, it’s not the money I want. I just want the package to be at the intended destination. The station is not professional and very careless. Had my concerns been heeded early in October it would have been discovered the package was missing, instead it appears now the package was instead diverted for personal use of someone or possible multiple individuals at the Oakland station!

i will NEVER-​ever-​EVER ride greyhound again.
i get to the station and i missed my bus b/​c when the bus was loading it was not announced over the intercom. afterward i found out the intercom was broken. the manager told literally a couple people the bus was leaving while i was talking to a different employee behind the counter. when the employee and i inquired where the bus was, the manager became incredibly defensive to the point of being confrontational.
when i got on the bus it smelled like piss. the bus on the way back smelled even more like piss. the driver on the way back kept hitting the break really hard. it made me feel like puking.
many of the men on the bus (down and back) were talking about their court cases and jail sentences. it’s worth mentioning that none of these men were rude. some old dude did try to pick me up before the bus left oakland. look, i just turned 46. i don’t get bothered anything like i used to but i don’t think a young woman would have had a good experience riding the greyhound.
after missing my bus from oakland, i took another bus that only got me part of the way. if i want a refund for part of the trip i missed, i have to fill out a bunch of forms and wait 3 to 4 weeks IF they feel like giving me a refund.
i will never do this again. it was disgusting. it was horrible. greyhound is not an option.

I would give no stars if I could. Over 2 hours late with no notification of when it will come. The driver was late to work and we are still waiting. No refunds are being made. Never take greyhound. It is the worst service ever possible.

I must say, I was really skeptical about Greyhound after all the reviews I read online. Today, I boarded the bus from Oakland to LA and I was very pleased to say that all the staff (security, lady behind the information desk, drivers, conductors) were very polite & nice, and everything was seamless.
The second driver was not very helpful as he kept telling a lady holding a baby that she needs to get her huge bag checked in but didn’t bother to help her with it, even when he saw her struggling with all the bags and her baby. But other than that, he was fine and did his best to make sure all the passengers on board feel comfortable during the bus ride.
The wifi was super slow and couldn’t even connect sometimes. Bus was very punctual although we arrived in LA 20 mins late due to traffic, seats were small but comfortable (bring a neck pillow for long journeys thou), AC temperature was just nice, driving speed was good and plugs were working. I did not use the toilet at the back of the bus so I’m not sure how it is.
All in all, it was an unexpectedly good bus ride with Greyhound. Took a star off for the wifi & driver, but other than that, it’s pretty good!

I’d rather walk to L. A next time than use Greyhound, after buying a ticket online I got a mail SUGGESTING I’d get there an hour early just to get a good seat, I got there 54 min early and it seemed the bus was about to leave, I got into the station and there was a nice guy at the counter who stopped the driver telling him there’s another passenger and the driver started screaming saying «nobody reads the emails?! You need to be here an hour early!» While the email suggested to be an hour EARLY, why would a bus that is supposed to leave at 12 pm leaves at 11:05?
Wouldn’t use them again or recommend anyone else to.

We are very disappointed in every single aspect of this station! We had a horrible experience. First We got here went to the front office and the lady was awfully rude with us. She did not help at all in the beginning. The bus was scheduled to get to the station at 10:30 pm it got here at 11:45 pm. I got to LA super late. Bus was freezing. My experience was horrible my last time riding with them. Very unprofessional! Please people don’t spend your money here. It was $ 100 to to LA. The bus had to get to LA at 5 am it got to LA at 7:00 am two hours later. The whole way I was so scared because it sounded like the bus had a flat tire the bus driver stopped twice in the middle of no were and she kept driving. The buses are not even safe.

The WORST journey I’ve ever taken. I usually take megabus, which is like riding on a cloud compared to this janky piece of shit, except it doesn’t go from San Fran to humboldt county. So I bought my greyhound ticket three days ahead of time, from humboldt to SF online for $ 60 (megabus has always been less than $ 30).
We had to be at the humboldt station by 9:35, and this was the first station to pick up passengers so there were only a couple really smelly people. Mind you, if a normal person were to drive this journey it would have taken around 5 hours. We left at 9:35. It’s 5:30. AND WE ARE STILL AN HOUR FROM THE CITY. I could have driven back and forth twice in that time!
During this seemingly short journey, the bus driver stopped over 6 times, with each stop taking AT LEAST 15 min each time. He notified us that lunch is 25 min and to be back on time, even though he took 50 min to get himself back in the bus. We were never told where we were going, why we have to stop again for the 30^th time, or predicted arrival time. I’ve had a car waiting for me at Caltrain station for two hours now because this dude can’t get it together.
And the driving!!! We literally had to wear seatbelts on a friggin tour bus. As soon as he pulled out of the first station this idiot slams on the brakes and everyone’s bags/​luggage/​food went flying. People were screaming as they smashed their faces into the window and the chair in front of them.
It’s 30 min later since I first started this review and we’re still parked in the greyhound lot while this man has casual convos w the other drivers outside. I think I’m about to call an über home.

Worst bus carrier out there. Save your headache and ride Megabus or Boltbus. The thing that’s not cool about greyhound is the long lines and the wait and it begins as soon as you walk in the station. Long lines to check in (seriously, why do we need to formally check in anymore? — Megabus and Boltbus has a painless way to board people based on their boarding number), long lines to board the bus and long wait for the bus itself. I once waited 2 hours for the bus to show up with no words from staff as to why there was a delay. Apparently, as I found out, there wasn’t enough bus to operate around and they had to contract with a different bus to give us the ride — why do you keep selling tickets to people if your seats are sold out? And why didn’t you arrange for the alternative pick up hours or days ago when you found out there weren’t enough buses to operate? Average 30 minute wait to board the bus AFTER scheduled departure time — what’s up with that? The prices are cheap and I won’t deny that but you can get comparable prices with other bus lines and not have to go through such a terrible experience.

My bus was delayed for nearly 2 hours because the bus driver forgot to stop by Oakland before heading to SF…
I think she was scared of the neighborhood more than I was. SMH.
AVOID if possible.

It was quite the experience.
They close between 130Am thru 500am so be aware of that.
I walked up at 445am to a sign that read they were not printing tickets, which of course was concerning since i had Will Call tickets that i was supposed to have printed for me upon my arrival .
The security officer was not so helpful and made me more anxious when he noted that Greyhound Staff don’t arrive til 600am which was concerning since my bus was to leave at 550am.
Naturally, the bus was ten minutes late but the driver let me on and I got to my destination in nine hrs… i think next time, i will pay for rental car. The stress and aggravation of walking the streets at odd hours in the AM was a bit much.

Taking Greyhound is one of those last-​ditch things you do. When all other travel options are exhausted (or your wallet is a little light), it’s fluorescent-​lit terminals are there for you.
This station is just as nasty and grimy as the rest of them, but how else can you get from Oakland to LA for less than the cost of an Umami Burger? If you can stand the smell and the clientele for a few hours, it’s not so bad.
Well, maybe it is. But at least it’s cheap!
