Waited almost 2 hours for a delivery! And we live very close to the Village(2 mins). The lamb in coconut sauce was good but the tikka combo(almost $ 19) was dry. Very disappointed.

Very disappointing … we ordered take out and ended up throwing over $ 50 of food out. We asked for mild — medium heat on the food. The food was so hot that we were unable to taste the flavors of the food. The hot spice added made all three dishes very difficult to enjoy.

I thought everything was good. Not amazing. Then I tried the Chicken Chili… Wow. Sorry so brief but that dish is so good I gave them an extra star. Quick delivery.

have only been to the flavors of india located in alameda. [which by the way seems to be closed?! oh no!] our family had a holiday meal here, so we ordered just about everything on the menu. i mean it was amazing. delicious. fantastically flavorful. the staff has always been so friendly, accommodating, fast. i come here for chai all the time so they know me pretty well. i love sitting at the counter just drinking chai and catching up on the local & global news. okay, so the chai isn’t the world’s best, but it is the only real chai in alameda. [can we please stop calling it chai tea everybody? chai means [spiced] tea. the absolute worst chai is at the other indian restaurant that shall not be named.] at lunch get the fish wrap. i am not a wrap person, but their fish wrap is the perfect lunch. it’s rolled up in a hot chapati with a delicious sauce that just dribbles everywhere. yum!

This review is for takeout/delivery. We don’t usually eat in the Montclair location because it’s so small. We’ve had the: * Lamb Biryani — huge tray of lamb mixed and rice pilaf. * Coconut chicken — coconut flavor not really evident. * Saag — puréed green veggies with potatoes(all simmered) * Mixed tandoori, including fish, shrimp, chicken, etc as well as a tandoori chicken wrap(with lettuce, tomato, a yogurt dressing, wrapped in plain naan) * Daal — think thick soup with garbanzo beans, tomatoes * A variety of naan, but Kashmiri naan is the best: includes cherries & pistachios(?) and goes great with everything. * Battered and fried paneer(a medium firm cheese) for finger food/app and dipping. * Always order a rice pilaf to soak up the sauces. * Have a dish with a creamy sauce, too. Those sauces are delicious. Spicy means spicy. We always order mild. Have a mango lassi, a sort of yogurt drink. Delicious!

My husband and I used to be a fan of this restaurant in another location. Somehow the service and food went down so we stopped going there for a while. However, we are just moved in to this area and found this restaurant. So we just wanted to give it a try… We ordered as usual our Chicken Tikka, Onion Naan, Lamb briyani and Samosa. The foods came out pretty fast. The curry itself was good but the chicken meats were dry. I disliked the samosa filling at all, less flavor. The Onion naan was great. But the lamb dish was too wet. Maybe they cooked differently than others. It’s just not my tasted. The service was fine.

Wow. I gotta say that my wife and I are totally shocked by the bad reviews on here. We took a chance on this place yesterday, and could not have been any more content with our choice. So my wife and I found ourselves in Montclair yesterday before heading out to the A’s game, and we were really hungry. Now I grew up in Montclair, but since I left many years ago, several new restaurants have popped up, and I know little to nothing about them. I remember passing by this place on several occassions in the past and being depressed because Top Dog used to be right there, and I have alot of fond memories of that place. But we passed by yesterday, and decided why not? We decided to get two of their lunch dishes, which were about $ 8 a piece, and came with salad, rice, a spicy bean dish(I cant recall the name of it), and naan. My wife had the chicken dish, and I had the lamb. We also got the fried potato appetizer. Everything was delicious, and there was plenty of it. I have a pretty big appetite, and it was more than enough for me. The food had a great, spicy flavor and the service was really quick as well. We were definitely satisfied. My lamb dish was great, but I think I liked my wife’s chicken dish better. It came in this creamy broth that had kind of a Thai/Indian fushion taste to it, and it was excellent. I could have reasonably expected to pay at least $ 35 for all this food, and not had a single complaint. However, when I got the check, the total came to $ 23! Wow. That’s alot of food for VERY little money, in my opinion. So overall, this place is a solid option for those who like alot of food for a little bit of money, and have a preference for all things spicy. The only downside to eating here was the itis that hit us real hard by the time we got to the Oakland Coliseum… the struggle is real. Small price to pay though for some first world problems…

I totally wish this was a better Indian restaurant, but I’ve been disappointed too many times with my order. Their dishes all use the same spice pallet, so whether I’m ordering bangan bharta or chicken saag, it all tastes the same. If I want Indian food, I make the trek all the way to Albany to Café Raj because they are just sooooo good! I will give a thumbs up for always having food ready to pick up on time and for the friendly guys working there.

I was SO disappointed in this place. And I’ll preface this review by saying maybe they were having an off night this past Sunday, but wow. Included in our order was Saag Paneer — it was not fresh at all. It looked like canned spinach emptied into a pan to heat up with the cheese thrown in at the end. Then left to sit out overnight and then served to me in my takeout order. Maybe I’m spoiled, but when I order this dish in the bay area, I expect fresh spinach and fresh cooked. The rice — we ordered 2 side dishes of rice since they specified it’s not included in dinner. The rice was at least day old, maybe two days. It wasn’t even Basmati rice — it looked like cheap fast food chinese takout rice. Again, so disappointed. The raita — we got a small container of yogurt with herbs. OK — the yogurt and herbs were tasty, but there should have been more to this dish — more cucumber, more of a bite. It was very bland and liquidy. The bhindi masala — great — I was actually very happy with this dish and the way they treated the okra. The chicken curry and the chicken tikka masala — they basically put two large pieces of chicken — I’m talking like half a breast size, in the sauce and boxed it up. Very hard to eat, unpleasant, and it was clear the chicken wasn’t cooked in the sauce. Speaking of the sauces, the tikka masala sauce was way too creamy and the chicken curry sauce was way too spicy. To add insult to injury here, they didn’t even include the traditional sauce/garnishes — no green sauce, no tamarind sauce, nothing on the side. I’ve literally never had indian food where these sauces aren’t included. The garlic naan was ok. This was seriously such a sad, disappointing meal — please skip this place. A little bit down the hill is Shaan Indian in the Dimond District. They are fresh, cook everyday, include lots of extras, and will work with you on anything you need. The only reason I didn’t use them last night was because they were closed — next time I will just wait another day.

Bland overpriced food that masquerades as Indian. Taking it easy on the chillie spices for the average American palette does not have to mean flavorless !

I’m British, so as you can expect, I’ve been to a ton of Indian restaurants. I’m working in the area and fancied catering to my addiction. I went for my go to dish of Chicken Korma, rice and a naan. Keeping it simple. It’s a Tuesday and I’m on me Todd. Look it up yank. This isn’t a date night kind of place but the one you love who loves Indian food on all levels will be happy for a meal out which won’t break the bank. My dish had a well balanced selection of Korma spices where the creaminess and coconut didn’t dominate the taste. I love a beer with an Indian. As they don’t have a license they were happy for me to bring me own bottle. The food here is great. If delivery sucks, get up off your lazy arse and pick it up yourself.

Tasteless. If you prefer flavorful dishes, this is not the place. Had chicken tikka masala and asked for moderate spiciness. The basic dish had far too much cream, to the point of it being tasteless(aside from the spice). Similarly, the garlic naan I ordered had minimal garlic taste. There are better options for Indian than this. Parking was difficult on a Wednesday evening.

Really disappointed to wait two hours to receive our order. No phone call and no apologies. Will not order from this restaurant again. Food is OK but not worth the poor service.

Just ordered for the first and last time. Ordered for delivery, said it would take an hour, fine. Two hours later and no food, I called to check on my order and the guy on the phone sounded annoyed with *me.* No apology was given. When the food finally arrived(2 hours and 20 minutes after I ordered), it was lukewarm. The naan was good, and the chicken tikka masala was probably the spiciest I’ve ever had, but it wasn’t bad, although it would be better if it wasn’t just barely warm. Too bad the service was terrible and I regret giving a tip in advance.

2hrs to deliver a cold dinner from a few blocks away!!? No traffic, then why? Unilocal should try reading some of its own reviews and remove this places option for delivery… They obviously aren’t able to service this request. All this does is make me not want to your delivery services in the future. Epic fail, you just lost repeat business.

Not too shabby, and a nice change of cuisine for delivery. I know I start, like, every delivery place review with«tired of pizza and Chinese?» but I mean. seriously, aren’t you guys tired of those being your only delivery options?! You know the drill. You’re at home in sweatpants, too lazy to go out and too lazy to get up and make something. Usually Indian places come with a hefty order minimum and/or delivery fee, but FOI only required a $ 25 minimum, and no delivery fee! Placed an order for saag paneer, chicken madras(both spicy), basmati rice, and kheema naan(naan stuffed with spiced ground lamb). Says delivery should be 45 – 60 minutes, and unlike other reviewers, they came only a teeny tiny bit after that(maybe 5 – 10 minutes after the hour had passed). My food was still hot, but when I opened the bag I realized the rice was missing and I had received another chicken dish instead. I called the place to see if they wanted to come pick it up, just because I know chicken is way more expensive than a side of plain rice. It took some back and forth for the guy on the phone to get what I was saying, but then he graciously let us keep it, and said he would remove the rice and the chicken entrée from our overall tab on eat24. Onto the food! It was all very tasty, except for the mystery chicken dish we received… but that’s probably because it wasn’t ordered spicy, and I likes my food spicy. The kheema naan was outstanding! Like most Indian restaurants in the area, the curry dishes and saag were considerably greasy. I have yet to find a place that does Indian food like Masala cuisine in Oakland. Sadly, however, Masala does not deliver. I would definitely order from FOI the next time I’m feeling lazy at home!

Check the other reviews. If you’re ordering from them online, the order could take two hours or more. It doesn’t matter whether you live a block away or not. The food is only mildly decent for takeaway, but it’s just not worth a two-hour wait and lousy service. If you sort this restaurant’s reviews, you’ll notice the reviews getting worse. They haven’t had consistently good reviews in years. This place has a major problem and it needs to be fixed or the market should speak… and we should take our business elsewhere. Plenty of good Indian restaurants in the East Bay and this isn’t one of them.

This is more of a to go place. Don’t expect service after you’ve received your food. I ordered the chicken tikka masala spicy. She even repeated the order. It came out and tasted like a big bowl of cream with barely a hint of spice. The chicken itself was dry and tough. The rice tasted like old rice. It was dry, broken, and almost harsh on the tongue. I won’t be coming back.

I’m wondering why, with so many great Indian restaurants in the Bay Area, this place is so blah. Maybe because there are so few options up in the hills? Flavors of India has a decent size menu, but seems to reuse the same few base sauces meaning there is little difference in the basic flavoring of their dishes. So, if you order more than one cream based curry, you are basically getting the same dish. The food is also incredibly OILY. And, while I like the interesting spices they use in their dishes. why not grind them instead of throwing them in whole or use less? No one likes to pick out the various inedible pods while eating. Maybe this is how the seasoning is authentically done, but I’ve never experienced that at other restaurants. Lastly, the use of the frozen veggie mix of peas, diced carrots, and corn is unacceptable. I’ll admit that I’ve gone here multiple times out of convenience, but after spending $ 50 on dinner for two to go and throwing about half of it out, I’m done.
