Saw their delicious-looking booth at the Clement Farmers’ Market in SF, but I won’t be fooled again… Chocolate Chip Cookies: 1 star Kinda tasted like Chips Ahoy, if Chips Ahoy were hard as rocks and whiffed of gluten free whole wheat raw grains. Please avoid. Polenta Apricot Cookies: 1 star Dry, crunchy and flavourless… Savory Bread Pudding: 4 stars Yummy frittata-muffin cross with Swiss chard, leeks, gruyère and mozzarella cheese. I guess I might give their non-cookie offerings a second look if I ever see them again, but their cookies are dead to me.

i have gotten stuff from the lake merritt farmers market a few times. the vegan and GF baked goods here are very good. i couldn’t even tell that they didn’t include dairy or eggs at all! the rosemary coconut cake is amazing, and i don’t even like coconut. i got my husband the chocolate dream cake before, and he didn’t even know it was vegan. that’s a great sign!

I recently learned I had a gluten intolerance. Horrible news for someone who loves breads and baked goods. I strolled by Bacano Bakery at the Clement Street farmers market a couple weeks ago and bought a cookie, which was tasty. It was late in the afternoon so most items were sold out. Today, I showed up early and bought a squash empananda(delicious) and a chocolate flour less cake(incredibly wonderful). Bacano is completely gluten free but also has vegan and dairy free choices.

Time: 7:13pm Purpose: At eat real festival 2013JLS. Wandering around the inside of warehouse food venues. Staff: One lady might have been the owner not sure but she seems to be in control of things by herself. Cleanliness: Set-up was clean the display cases had front plexiglass for sanitary and health code ordinance. I saw maybe 3 weight plates of 10lb each holding down display firmly with item description and pricing written on 2×3.5 card. Eats: Coconut kisses $ 1.50ea and apple star turnover $ 4.25ea. I like the consistency of the coconut kisses very dense and moist a good sign of recently made. Held it closely looking at inside more and discover it wholesome ingredients being use. Turnover was good also the apple wedges were thinly cut and had a good proportion ratio nice balance. The outter crust was perfect not breaking apart while holding or biting into it really like the offerings here. Products: Cookies, tarts, bread loafs, danishes, cornbreads, chocolate cover oatcakes. Very limited availability here may expand to more offerings soon. Expectations: Everything here is gluten-free. I would compare them to other local gf companies like mariposa except this place use different methods and ingredients were the other uses a single mix for all their goods. You can choose from a variety of bake goods and don’t have to worry about feeling guilty. Final Thoughts: A+ for another local bakery that specializes in gf products. All I can say is there will be more offerings to come and this place will be around for sometime. The prices match what’s being offer and also taste good pair it up walla another place for people who didn’t choose to be gf but has to live by it.

This bakery is super amazing. Some gluten free stuff is downright terrible, but not the stuff they had here. Notable is the seasonal strawberry basil muffin. The people are super friendly and even if you don’t have to be gluten free, you’ll love this bakery.

I stopped by the Food Mill in Oakland today because I needed a little healthy something for my lunch. I ran in to two gentleman setting up a little table of goodies. I noticed a gluten free blurb on the labels. I eat a gluten free-vegan diet. Let me tell you, my options, even in a heath food store, are super limited. I do a happy dance when I come across products that are: artisan, vegan, gluten free, use healthier(read: actual nutritional value) ingredients, and TASTEGOOD! This is what the Bacano products delivered. I bought a bag of the Molasses Cookies, and a bag of the Cranberry Walnut Bites. BOTH were perfection. I am a trained Pastry Chef, I know my way around baked goods. Both items were texturally exquisite, balanced in flavor, and super satisfying. I must say, I’m grateful this company exists. Priced fairly for the quality of the ingredients($ 6-$ 7 range). Please flourish and thrive-because I want to be a customer for a very long time!!!

Giving thanks to Bacano Bakery!!! You can imagine my surprise when, while helping my host clear Thanksgiving dinner, I realized that my dessert was the only desert!!! I really thought she was making something chocolate, or other. I will admit, I did get just a little nervous since I had chosen a gluten and sugar free pear pie to purchase from my new, favorite bakery at the Grand Lake farmers market. The pie was a hit, delicate yet rich and definitely sweet enough. Delicious pears poached in chamomile and rose hips, subtle, yet packed with flavor and stuffed into the perfect butter crust. Sublime. I could not have been more impressed and the crowd could not believe it was sugar and gluten free. We all agreed, nothing was compromised and this was an amazing pear pie. For me, the day after Thanksgiving began with a cinnamon and pecan coffee cake, also from Bacano, moist and rich and sweet, decadent but not heavy. And knowing Bacano Bakery, they use minimal amounts of the bad stuff and the very best of the good stuff. Organic fruits, artisan flours, and an abundance of creativity. Plus their stand is beautiful, «like art,» I overheard one customer say. For my Thanksgiving host, her day after the holiday began with a hearty slice of pear pie and she called to thank me again.

I noticed Bacano at the Lakeshore FM last Saturday. The folks manning the booth seemed friendly. What caught my attention is that Bacano is a GLUTENFREE bakery. Note: the other bakeries are perfectly good at the FM but I can never find gluten free or vegan options(and if I did, I didn’t enjoy it). I tried their Coconut Kiss(gluten free and vegan) — OMG — my mouth was happy, I was happy — normally I do not like coconut but the combination of coconut and dates is irresistible. Today, I was the FM again and again I got the Coconut Kiss — still pleasing, hence this review. Bacano Bakery is located at the FM next to the street — next to Native Juice(another new vendor that recently appeared at the FM.) Btw, the coconut kiss cost $ 2.50 and is a good sized portion. Takes me a while to finish.
