I’ve been bring my car there for over 9 years. They always nail the problems on the spot. The owner Thomas is friendly adn sincere. This is the most honest auto repair shop on earth. I’ve tried many till I found Thomas. Fast responds on quotations too.

One of the owners (Thomas) is super friendly, and a very honest man. They will give you a good deal, and an even better deal if you can pay cash.

Everyone is nice here. I do all my work here for my car. Any problems pops-​up, I take my car to them right away and they will solve it for me. Price good, fast service.

Their team has been taking good care of my various cars over the years and I’ve always had a good experience. Super nice people. They seem to do a really large volume of work there and it’s never a hassle to get your car in. They do what’s needed and will do special stuff without overcharging.

Problem: Clicking sound and check engine light
We brought the car back in 5 times.
1^st: Diagnose, replaced spark plugs, reset Check Engine Light. $ 70+
2^nd: (Check Engine light pop back up) brought it back in. Did some engine work. 200+.
3^rd: (Check Engine light again) Free
4^th: (Check Engine light again) Free
5^th: Sound from belt, replaced. $ 170+ (I’m pretty sure the mechanic did something for this to happen to recover the free diagnosis for the 3^rd and 4^th time)
Seriously, if you can’t figure out whats wrong with the car you should really think about hiring some real mechanics.
They might be good a minor repairs.
My second incident was when they installed the wrong nuts into my rim, which damaged the rotor. Went to dealer to get it replaced, and filed a claim against Automax. Only got half back.

I will never again take my car to this place. they left my windows open for the whole month that it was there and left my car dusty as all hell with while marks all over the place. stole my brand new oem floor mats and replaced them with used ones that has a big ass hole in it. never again will I take my car to these hacks… plus the paint didnt even match…

I like Automax and so do alot of car owners in Alameda and Oakland. You can bet that many Camrys, Accords and Corrolas have Automax license frames on them. Take a look and see. I’ve been going to them for approx. five years and take my cars no where else. Sometimes I’ll get some special components for my car and have them install them.
I’ve had one of my trucks painted by them and do a very good job of color matching and body work.
When I take a vehicle there they can diagnose, call me and they are pretty much right on on there findings. The team of Thomas, Dorian and Tam (he just left but I hope he comes back). Plus they will gave you a ride back to home or bart if you live close.

I’ve been going to Automax of Oakland for years, they’ve done ane excellent job, i had a lame ass mechanic over here in San Francisco, couldn’t even tell me why my Radiator water was rusty colored, (I went to Automax where I used to bring my old car before I traded it in) and they told me that oil was leaking into mt coolant system, it was a cracked seal… the guy I used to bring it to SUCKED for that… I could’ve really Fu@ked up my engine if it wasn’t for Automax… Karen F. maybe it’s time for a new car…

automax did ok repairs for me whenever they had the time. they said drop off the car and we’ll get around to it. cometimes they didn’t

automax fixed a lot of stuff for me, at a good price, but i had some nightmare issues with the clutch. it broke down 3 additional times after it was fixed and i had to get towed there from SF because I don’t live in Oakland anymore. My car would just not go into gear or if it did, it wouldn’t go forward when i hit the gas. Both of these things happened more than once after they said the clutch was fixed. It was pretty rough dealing with it. Additionally, they replaced my timing belt, but it was off, so now (due to a problem with my check engine light that also didn’t end up being fixed) i’ve taken it to the dealership. the dealership is fixing the timing belt that wasn’t done properly. it sucks having to pay for 1 thing twice.

I have been a patron of Automax for the past 12 years. I have watched Thomas, Dorian, and their business mature into what it is today. You can see their license frames throughout the East Bay, which shows how popular they are. Prices are fair, service is dependable, and most importantly, I have never found trust to be an issue. I am pretty savvy around the engine bay, so I make the final call as to what needs to be fixed vs. not. I know what problems are more urgent and dangerous than others. Automax has never coerced me into unnecessary repairs, and the repairs they have done have been done well. Another bonus for me when I had the time back in school was that they let me watch over their shoulder while I was watching/​waiting for my car. Instead of locking their customers up in a waiting room for insurance and annoyance purposes, this allowed me to get to know the guys a bit, learn more about my car, and ensure that the job is done right.

Automax ROCKS! Fair, fast and friendly — you can’t find a better place to have your car serviced. They beat the pants off of any quote I’ve ever gotten elsewhere. True, they are all the way across the bridge in Oakland, but they’ll give you a ride to BART and back. Besides when you consider all the expensive cheese and sassy shoes you can buy with the money you’ll save, you won’t mind the field trip.
