Classy gym. Quite, relaxing and clean.
I’ve been a member for 20 years and have never regreted leaving my old gym.

This is a great club but buying parking validation tickets is a problem once again. You have to buy a whole packet — fine — but they «sell out» daily. You will be told, «I just sold the last packet in my envelope.» Twice I have said, «There must be more tickets in the back office, aren’t there?» And twice, the poor employees, who are told to tell us there aren’t any more, have walked to the back office and miraculously found a packet of validation slips.
So, they’re rationing the validation packets. Why? Probably because they have an agreement with the landlord that they will only sell x number of validation tickets/​day. So tell the members the truth instead of having employees lie to us. And members — don’t believe the staff when they tell you they have sold the last packet. It’s not true.

I recently started getting serious about my fitness and I have to say I couldnt have picked a better gym to get serious with! I love all the amenities such as hot tub, sauna, steam room, clean unlimited towels, and the nice front desk staff. The frigde in front is always stocked full with water and Muscle milk, Its always clean. I love the fact that its never crowded I never feel like I have to wait to use any of the machines (there’s plenty) Im happy to say, that along with my trainer (@Ghenicurlfit), that Active sports club has helped change my life and im truly happy to be a member!

Came here from another big chain, and am a really big fan after being a member for a month.
Has almost everything you would want in a gym, weights/​cardio machines/​basketball court/​swimming pool plus lots of classes.
Very clean, friendly staff and even when it is peak hours, I can still use whatever I want.
Not cheap by any means, but I feel like I am definitely getting my money’s worth.

Arguably one of the best gyms in Oakland. It has some great amenities as shown in the pics, the one downside is the parking situation at this gym. If you come during the day and opt to park in the lot it can get pricey, otherwise street parking is difficult as the area is pretty busy.
Gym and locker rooms are kept pretty clean, great gym, ask for a free guest pass and check it out for yourself.

I really like this gym. The front desk associates are always happy to see you. (Thanks Losi for always making me feel welcome) the machines here are clean and there are only few far in between times when one doesn’t work. There is visible staff cleaning and providing fresh towels all the time. The TRAINERS are throughout the gym and don’t mind helping you in the weight room.
The women’s locker room is always clean and stocked with hand soap, body lotion, mouthwash, body wash, shampoo, conditioner and freshly washed towels. In the locker room is at least 10 private showers, steam room, jacuzzi and access to the pool.
The gym also offers classes, yoga, Zumba, kick boxing, spin, water aerobics as well as workshops for a healthy lifestyle.
There is definitely something for everyone here.

I don’t know what’s up with the mixed reviews, but as someone who has been a member of Bally’s and 24 Hour Fitness, and even worked at the latter, I can tell you this place is an amazing health club. It’s clean, the clientele are mostly polite, it’s never crowded, and it has wonderful amenities like a Jacuzzi in the locker room, steam room, sauna, pool, and so many group exercise classes that there is something for everyone. The lockers work fine. I have an all access membership and regularly use this location as well as 2 others in SF and I have never had a problem with lockers. Maybe people are just so darn snobbish that many have failed to recognize that really, if you’re privileged enough to have one of these memberships, you have access to so many health resources to get you in shape, relieve stress, and just escape the hectic life when you come here.
I love the instructors. The Body Conditioning classes are fun and really get my heart rate going. In my first 4 weeks, my belly mostly disappeared! I even saw some biceps grow. For someone like me who struggles with weight and building muscle, this is so encouraging. I decided to incorporate yoga into my fitness routine and both Miriam and Meta have been a great help. I am not flexible and felt a little intimidated at first, but now I look forward to going 1 – 2 times a week.
I also want to point out that it’s sickening that so many users have complained about what they call «too many elderly» at this location. Seriously? Health is a life long commitment and members of all ages, shapes, and sizes should feel welcomed. Everyone I have seen, regardless of age, is doing their best to add physical activity to their lives and I think that’s important when so many people, young and old, are sedentary. To complain about the age of some of the members is just pathetic and shows lack of depth. If the age of the members is a concern of yours, find some other gym and don’t bother ruining this one. Remember, we will all grow old some day. That is, if we’re lucky.
All in all, I am glad that this location exists and it has been vital in keeping me healthy and helping me mellow out after a long day at the office.

Now several months after my first review when Active Sports Clubs took over have to say that things are improving.
The hot tub is fixed, not an easy task being all tile (not fiberglass) and the saunas have re-​opened. Good signs. Some of the locker door hinges don’t work but the swimming pool (big job) has been drained and cleaned up — YAY!
Things are looking up!

The old adage says, ‘You get what you pay for’ and it’s true here. My previous gym (s) were dirty, crowded, small, smelly and nobody put the weights back! I decided to try this gym and got a pretty good deal, which got better after I committed a few more months.
It’s huge! There’s a basketball court, a full size running track, several rooms full of machines and stretching areas, glass rooms for classes, an outdoor swimming pool and enough machines and weights to make anyone happy. AND there is no wait!
There is a Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, free towels all over, large locker room and several private showers with shampoo, conditioner and body soap. Clean as all get out. Staff is all over and friendly with great classes and one-​on-​one with membership. They also have a deal with a parking garage a block away. Best gym in the East bay by far. First class. Makes a work out a pleasure.

I usually go to the Active Fitness SF clubs, but really wanted to try this one.
the gym is huuuuuge! Three floors with tons of fitness equipment, pool, bball court, indoor track, etc.
The locker rooms and overall place are clean and front desk staff were friendly.

This place is definitely better than 24 hour fitness, but still not my favorite.
My two star rating is based on the following:
1. They did not have me sign a waiver on my first visit, nor did they offer a tour. The former is just plain stupid, and opens them up to liability. (This is the lawyer in me speaking.) The latter is poor business sense. Way to make a newbie feel welcome… not.
2. I signed up for a pilates class through ClassPass then noticed it disappeared from my upcoming classes. I called the gym to ask whether it was still on, and got the runaround. It was unclear whether it was still on or not, so I skipped it. ClassPass told me the next day that it had been canceled, and it was the gym’s responsibility to let me know. They did not. I’m glad I didn’t waste my time to go in that day, especially because parking isn’t free!
3. The weirdest, most convoluted layout of a gym, ever. You will likely get lost and confused the first few visits. Nothing makes sense and there is little signage.

Pros: 4 Starz
You never have to wait for weights, gym is pretty empty all the time. There is a track and pool and basket ball court and racket ball courts. It’s 3 story’s and spacious. Towels are free. The front desk is awesome and friendly. Daycare for kids is amazing staff over all is amazing.
Cons: 1 Star
Parking 2.50
Lots of elderly
Close early on weekends
There are things around the gym that need to be fixed ASAP
Some trainers are rude. Not all only some
The bathrooms could smell better
They use fans in the weight room so it blows around stinky ass smell.
They need an actual air conditioning system/​and some sort of ventilation
The benches could use a spray and whip down.
The facility can be cleaner over all
My recommendation is they should get more maintenance employees on board.

So after about a week of doing trial membership I decided to become a member. I was looking for a clean and well maintained facility. I figured I’m not in my early twenties anymore and have grown out of my 24 hr fitness days. I was looking for a different type of environment where I can have access to top quality amenities. Basketball court, pool, 3 levels of equipment. If you’re looking for a professional environment and a place you can unwind with a CLEAN steam room and dry sauna with showers this is your spot. I highly recommend.

Nice gym! Excellent facilities.
I came here on a Friday and got street parking. The cool thing is that the street parking allows you to prepay. I got there at 6:30 am but the meters start at 8 am so it allowed me to prepay upfront so I would not need to come out and feed the meter in the middle of my gym session.
The facilities were great. I played basketball and they do the whole 10 minute game thing. Sign up on the sheet and get there early. The competition is good and there is no bullshit calls and delays. Everybody plays hard.
The men’s room is clean and I love the showers. The shower heads are high — I am 6’2. So it was easy to shower cleanup and go on my merry way.
Highly recommend you come. I will be back to play ball again.

Honestly it is clean but I’m not going to lie pretty sucky so far!
The lockers are awful! You must use a card to use them— just let me bring my own lock!
And while I was struggling to use my 1^st locker & asked a woman for help she helped me but could not get it & told me «all the lockers suck». She was right! I went through 6 lockers to get one that actually worked!
Next when trying to use the stationary bike, all the straps were off. I understand this is not the gym’s fault but the straps are super difficult to put on. The first 12 mins of struggle here have not been from working out but trying to make proper use of their equipment :(!!
It seems like any cardio area where you use machines except maybe a workout room (used for classes) you must hear super noisy basketball:(I’m not faulting the players– I get that the game can get rowdy & passionate but it’s super annoying to hear them over your music! I will not ruin my ears by blasting my music to drown out the noise! The autistics are incredibly poorly designed!

The women’s locker room has a sauna & hot tub.
They provide mouthwash, cotton balls, & q-​tips.
–the fact that it is clean & due into the amenities is the reason this gym is receiving 2 stars out of me :(

I have tried a few gyms in the area and this is, by far, the most chill place to workout.
Pros
1. Pretty spacious.
2. Has variety of workout equipments and options. Like squash, volleyball, basketball, aerobics classes, yoga classes, sauna, swimming pool, hot tub etc.
3. Calm and Laidback environ like Low intensity music. Some people may not like it.
4. Pretty accessible as its in downtown.
5. Is pretty well interiorly designed.
Cons
1. The biggest con I found is the lack of young people (especially hot girls), which is fine cause you can find plenty of milfs here, if you are into that.
2. Swimming pool is somewhat small.

Sadly this place is going down hills very fast.
I have been a member for 12 years and have loved the last 10. This club (which was once Club One) is having some long term serious problems within ownership and or management that is ruining this awesome space.
Cons:
— PARKING:
Parking is a major mess /​You must park in a garage WAY down the street in order to get discounted validation. The garage just below the gym was once by validation (at a discount) by the gym but no longer. This parking garage is costly per hour without a validation. You can park on the street of course (if you find a space) but the meters have a 2 hour max.
— HOURS:
The hours on Friday evenings and the weekends are sad. They close at 9:00 PM on Friday, and 6:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. FOR YEARS, many of us have asked for longer hours via their regular survey’s and have asked management directly to increase the hours however, nothing. 10:00 PM Mon — Thur is also too early for a gym to close.
— LOCKERS:
The men’s lockers are falling apart /​either no lock or the doors (if there is a door) is falling not on the hinge properly. They replaced a few of the doors recently with used doors that they stained too dark.
— LOUNGE FURNITURE IN MEN’S LOCKER ROOM:
That was a good one… Someone decided to bring an old sofa and make it «new» to gym members. Not cool at $ 95.00 or more per member per month.
— SHOWER TILES:
Failing tiles in the men’s shower area /​this is sad and should be addressed ASAP as it is hazardous.
— WATER PRESSURE:
Water pressure is very poor on one side of the men’s showers
–CARPET:
There is tape that holds several steps together as you head up to the indoor track. It seems easy enough to purchase a stair rail vs. tape.
Pros:
— The cleaning staff do their best. The place is clean just falling apart.
— Towels are included (they better be).
— Great weight room and selection.
— Plenty of spinning classes.
*** Active Sports MANAGEMENT ***
After all these years, I will be leaving for Planet Fitness (YES, I said Planet Fitness as my choices are limited) which is opening in the Laurel District at the end of December.
I truly love Club One and I feel for you and the great staff. However, at $ 95.00 per month (+ parking fee’s) vs. $ 19.99 per month, unlimited gym access, free parking, massage chairs, and extended hours at Planet Fitness I must leave. Somehow the departure is easier than I thought as over the years my monthly fee’s have only increased however the service, and facilities have not. The past two years have been horrible and I waited and waited… but sadly, I can no longer.

I will join the chorus of other long time members (10 years for me) who are sad to see the decline of service from what it was under previous ownership. As many have mentioned, the way the jacuzzi situation was handled and communicated was infuriating.
I give two stars because, honestly, there are still some good things about the club, but the balance is tipping inexorably in the direction of «not worth it». It is just sad because it has gone downhill so fast over the last year and used to be so good. The facility is generally clean. I think the staff is generally good. I also like the instructors for the classes I attend. The staff I have talked to about the management situation express unhappiness. I also get some worrying signals from instructors who may be enduring some additional pressures or burdens (from new management) that would cause them to leave. If that happens, the high fees will not be worth it to me based on how I use the club (mainly classes). I would go elsewhere and pay, presumably, less money.
Bottom line: the new management needs to resolve the dispute with the landlord, fix the jacuzzi, and get their focus back on making their customers feel appreciated and welcomed. I do not feel that this is their focus at the moment.

It is free for me so I have no complaints!
Coming from someone that used to gym at 24, this change is great.
I love Michele. She is so sweet. I haven’t had much interaction with some of the other staff since Michele prepared my registration. The ladies gym is nice and clean, lockers are plenty and available. I think the revamped their new hand and body soap that smells a little like passion fruit. (hehe, I’m so descriptive!)
There are three floors, so many classes to fit your needs. I would have to agree that some of the classes are not as intense. I was a little nervous to my first core class, it was definitely as intense as it comes off (only 30 minutes, and just the word «Core»). If you want a little a**-kicking take Cardio Kickboxing with Kim (the sassiest instructor you’ll ever meet) and add weights. Your arms will burn. I really want to focus on my core and my glutes. So I’ve been doing a lot of stair-​master and mat work.
It is a less than a minute walk from work. I’ve been going almost 4 times a week.

This is the fancy gym I’ve been looking for in Oakland. I’d compare it to Equinox, only much larger.
The staff is very friendly! I really enjoyed the hip-​hop classes. The instructor, Kim, is just a really interactive/​funny person. She is partially the reason why I would even attend.
