Jack’s Bar-B-Q Smokehouse

This place is awesome! Best BBQ I have had in South Florida since moving here 3 years ago. Service was fantastic and the food is even better. The wood out front adds a nice touch.

These cooks make southern comfort food into an art form. Everything I’ve had there… pulled pork, ribs, mac and cheese (THE best mac I’ve ever had), collard greens, and the sweet potato pie… have all been absolutely incredible. I will never go to another BBQ joint while still living in South Florida. I honestly can hardly fathom the poor reviews on here, but to each their own. I’ve never had a bad meal/​experience here, and hope that continues.

Sauce was too sweet for my taste, meat was tender, I wasn’t a huge fan of the overwhelming bacony flavor in the mac and cheese but their collards and baked beans are A-​freaking-​Plus. Sweet tea was really good too. This place does some things well and some things average. I did like that they have a drive through, it’s nice to have an easy non-​chain option near by.

Pretty sure the smokers are out front for decoration. The pork was tough and no flavor. It’s also not pulled its chopped so they’re chunks of fat throughout. Some of the white meat chicken was so dry I had to get a water just to swallow it, not a joke. In my experience if it’s smothered in sauce it’s probably to hide its not very good… Which was the case here, and the sauce wasn’t great either. Very disappointing but Florida isn’t known for BBQ I guess.

The service was so terrible I don’t want to waste too many minutes writing a review so I’ll keep it brief:
1. The black woman behind the counter was the rudest person I’ve encountered that I’ve EVER paid for food. (I’m also black so calm down) After reading the reviews I’m remisced to know that everyone else thinks she’s rude.
2. The menus is convoluted and they’ll nickel and dime you for everything. A Rib Tips combo that was priced at $ 7 and change ended up being $ 11 after I added a bottle of water.
3. The food was mediocre at best. Not $ 11 for a BBQ lunch for one good. Not at all.
After reading the other reviews I’m learning that there are other spots worth trying out, I advise anyone reading this do the same and learn from my mistakes.

I live very close to it and I love getting the sandwiches combo, their sauce is wonderful and the steak fries are delicious, the staff is really nice as well

I’ll give you the bottom line up front: Jacks is just okay. Out of the four BBQ joints I have tried here in South Florida, I put this place last behind the others (Father & Sons, Blue Willy’s, Tom Jenkins, Jack’s). A previous reviewer hit the nail on the head – something is missing in the way the food is seasoned and it lacks the «soul» necessary to make it really special. I had the ribs and chicken. The ribs were smoked well and the meat was tender but there was no other flavor on the meat so it tasted very bland. I couldn’t taste a hint of salt, paprika, onion powder, or any herbs and spices you might find in a standard rub. Same thing with the chicken. When I got home I added some Tony Chachere because I couldn’t eat it otherwise. The cornbread was decent and the collard greens were cooked well but again they lacked seasonings. Many restaurants do not season food heavily to appeal to a broader audience, but BBQ is an entirely different animal. Smoking the meat is one part, but adding a flavorful rub enhances the smokiness which is really what BBQ is all about. I may give the pork a try but I will not be rushing back to do it.
Logistics: this place is off of Oakland Park Blvd and there is sufficient parking. Inside are plenty of tables and chairs to eat in. The staff were friendly and the food was ready fairly quickly.

Got the sampler rib was amazing chicken could have been better, pork was ok. The corn bread was amazing if you want southern corn bread come here.

Nice bbq, I wish I could give it 3 ½ stars. Staff was nice, and portion was decent. Nothing too special but it deserves 3 ½.

Love this place. The BBQ brisket and pork sandwiches are really good. The flavor on the meats are awesome. The sides are not my fav but worth it for the meats!

Health hazard this place needs to be knocked down with a new place built. I would not recommend anyone eat here due to health concerns on the news. I wished I would or read the reviews before eating here.

Stopped in for lunch & had the rib combo. Ribs were good juicy & tender. Cole slaw was great too. I recommend this place for lunch or dinner. Jack is the owner and works in the business.

The smell will drag you in there so fast that you won’t know what hit you like on the Tom & Jerry cartoons, lol!
I work out here in this area and I’ve passed here several times salivating with my windows pulled up might I add! I came in today, got the quarter chicken combo meal.
The smoke flavor is awesome! However it’s lacking in other flavors that would come out with a bit more seasoning and salt that’s missing which would make it stupendous, like the hickory smoke smell that drags you in.
The Mac and cheese is missing some seasonings. The cornbread a bit too much on the sweet side. There should be thrown in the oven like the bacon cornbread at Gigi’s in Miami for better execution. The steak fries weren’t drained, they were too greasy.
The men behind the counter are very courteous and kind. Something is missing in this establishment, as to say someone doesn’t have their SOUL into this as I’m sure the food would excel above the usual.

I no longer go to this place after seeing the kitchen. They really need to clean this place. Their employees don’t seem concerned with cleanliness. There are far better bbq places than jack’s. Too bad too, because it’s around the corner from where I live.

Walked in and they told me they are out of pork, beef and chicken!!!
All they have are ribs and tips… WTF!!!

Worst food ever. Had high expectation after seeing the huge smokers outside. Tasteless cold brisket, dry old Mac n cheese. Felt as if we were eating out of a cafeteria. Should have known when the place was empty during dinner hour. How are you expected to cut beef with a plastic fork? $ 30 for 2 and I wouldn’t pay $ 2 for the meal we had there.

I happened to drive by, and thought why not since I’ve never been. The portions are great, but the food wasn’t that good. I ordered chicken breast with steak fries and mac and cheese. The fries tasted like old cook oil and the chicken has a propane kind of taste to it. On another note, the staff are super nice– that’s why I put an extra star.

I normally hate giving negative feedback to a local establishment but I think I need to this time. For almost a year I drove by jacks BBQ watching the smokers running all night but never stopped to give it a chance. Today, I decided was the day. We ordered a whole chicken, BBQ pulled pork meal with collards and Mac n cheese.
The chicken, smelled delicious, much to my disappointment, it was dry, and extremely tasteless. Sadly, Publix BBQ chicken from the deli blows jacks out of the water. My fiancé felt the pulled pork was equally disappointing. It was extremely fatty, tasteless and fell short of all our expectations along with the cornbread, Mac n cheese and collards.
I will end this review on a positive note, the two gentlemen behind the counter where extremely friendly, if only the food matched.

Exceeded expectations. Pulled pork sandwich was delicious and baked beans exceptional! Sweet and smokey with chunks of BBQ. Big portion and great price

I came back yesterday, the service was much, much better. The staff was friendly. I knew that I needed a second trial to give a true opinion on this place. The brisket is incredible! It hasn’t disappointed me yet. I will need to try a pork sandwich once I’m done with this «no-​carb» for lent thing.
