Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota

If not for AERC of MN, our beloved cat would not have survived the last 4 years. Desperate on a weekend evening, new to the state & our precious feline crying out in agonizing pain, we were referred to AERC. They took us to the back triage area immediately, where the very knowledgable Vet was waiting & on top of everything.
Our cat had a UTI, w/​a stone blockage. Our boy refused to eat for days leading up & had lost much weight. He had been vomiting for quite some time on & off, despite many visits to our Vet, who had little to offer in the way of diagnoses. The amazing Doctor at AERC helped our baby boy right away, making his pain her #1 priority above all. She gave us the precise remedies to his stomach maladies & our beautiful boy has been super happy, healthy & content ever since. We’re eternally grateful to AERC of MN!

So we are on vacation from FL with our 2 cats. We got a bouquet of flowers from friends. One cat Chloe brushed against the flowers & got pollen on her — lilly pollen. We were in WI and it was Sat. Afternoon when I realized the severity. This was the closest place (1 ½ hour way from our friend’s house in WI). The estimate for giving her fluids, a couple blood tests & urine test? Low: Over 2K for 48 hours, High: nearly 3k for 72 hours!!! Guess I got a bargain — only $ 1500 for 24 hours. I guess she got good care (did she really NEED a kitty Spa?!?). In comparison we lost our 15 year old female a couple of months ago to renal failure. The exact same treatment for her for 48 hours was less than $ 700 at our local vet. Go here if you must — but be sure to bring a VERY FAT WALLET!!!

We brought our cat Stella into this clinic for surgery and aftercare. The staff was considerate and compassionate. They really related both to us and to Stella. I particularly want to mention Dr. Weihausen who gave so much time and attention to us and our our «little girl». Dr. Weihausen, Dr. Michelle Rose and Krista went above and beyond. We felt like our Stella was in excellent hands.

I’ve had to bring my dog here a couple of times — and though it is a place you never want to go, they are great at what they do.
My dog has been well cared for (even approved by my persnickety full-​time vet) and I have really appreciated the concern and care of the staff. They understand how important our furry friends are.

Unfortunately I’ve been here a few times over the years and received good care for my «ohhhh look something else I can try and eat» hounds.

Our dog had a terrible episode of pancreatitis in 2010 and they did a great job during our visit. Today — nearly 4 years later our dog got attacked by a pit bull and needs antibiotics, but I remember she is sensitive to an antibiotic given around the time of the visit. We now live in a different state, but they helped me not only find our records from our visit there, but went above and beyond to figure out what another vet had prescribed for our pet. Really — our visit was outstanding and their concern 4 years later was so appreciated. I wouldn’t hesitate to take a pet here. Also — same vet was working today that treated our girl and took the time to answer our question. Thank you!

Obviously, no one really wants to be here, especially late a night. It is expensive for this type of all hours care, however they were very friendly, explained all options and were understanding. I’ll be back if I have to be, but hopefully not.

I brought my cat here to assess his increasingly alarming respiratory issues. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout the whole process. They laid out my options and assisted me in making critical decisions. I was there for about 5 hours the first night and they could not diagnosis my cat due to his anxiety and concern about respiratory arrest. Needless to say, I was a complete wreck. The vet provided me with options and was honest in her assessment. My cat required an overnight stay and the next day, I received a phone call from the vet with an update and additional options. The vets were knowledgable about his illness and treatment options and were able to treat him despite his anxiety. Unfortunately, he has a terminal illness, but the staff were able to stabalize him so he could come home for a bit. They also called for a follow up and provided medical records within hours of his discharge. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because I had to call for the majority of the updates (especially when we were considering discharge) and there appeared to be a lack of communication between the vets (one vet stated she wanted him to go home on a sedative and the other had no idea). Other than that, I am very pleased and will keep them in mind if I ever need emergency care for one of our pets.

I’m writing this review because our dog had a tumour in his stomach and our local vet sent us to Animal Emergency Clinic. When we arrived at the clinic we were brought into one of there rooms right away and talked to a tech. A very short time later Dr. Bush came in and talked to us about having an ultrasound done. He did the ultrasound immediately. When he came back with the news that our dog had a tumour on his spleen he proceeded to talk to us with tremendous compassion and sensitivity. He went over all of the options and the percentages of survival with more professionalism than we could imagine. He went over all of the cost with us showing us a price range that the surgery would fall into depending how the surgery and recovery went. The price of surgery and recovery was on the low side of the price range he gave us, and usually that does not happen. The surgery went great and we were told we could call anytime we want to check on our dog. The staff was great, they were so nice and accommodating during our dogs recovery. We just want to Thank You so much for everything and that you made us feel that our dog was the most important thing in the world during his stay.

I feel like this might be the most important Unilocal review I have ever written. While on vacation in California my husband and I got a call from our neighbor and cat sitter that our 2 and a half year old cat, Milton was unresponsive, we quickly looked up the closest 24hr emergency vet (as it was about 10PM on a weekend) and away she went.
The Animal Emergency and Referral center was clear from the very beginning, they gave us concise options, explained the costs associated with the surgery (our cat had eaten a shoelace, and had a linear bowel obstruction) If he hadn’t of been taken to AERC he would not be alive, I wouldn’t have my baby to snuggle up with every day, I am so grateful for Dr. Rausch, the staff at the St Paul hospital (for the surgery and immediate emergency care) and the Oakdale staff for the after care, patience and dealing with my crazy cat-​lady panic, they let me come in and try to feed my cat, deferred to me with any and all decisions, and truly made me feel like the most important patient in the world. Yes, it was expensive, as all emergency vets are… but priceless is the care and attention they provide for the animals that come in… most importantly they saved my cat, and I will be forever grateful.
