Firstly, the food was terrible. They put some cheap sugary french dressing on our meatballs. The portions were tiny $ 10 appetizer with maybe 0.5 — 1 oz of meat in it. Oh but you haven’t heard the best part yet. The first course had some hairs in it. Not one, but several. The third appetizer had shards of a broken plastic bottle in it! I asked to speak with the chef and the guy would not show is face! I would not eat free food from this establishment. The only reason I upgraded to 2 stars was because the bartender(filling in for the manager at the time) gave us a full refund. Even she was shocked. We left starving and disturbed at what was served to us. Run away from this place if you want to eat food.

They have changed their name, but are the same restaurant(apparently.) This was not a great experience. The waitress couldn’t tell us what beers they had. Our appetizer(4 pieces of bread with very salty onions on it) took over an hour, and we only saw our waitress once because she was chit chatting with the only other ONE person here tonight. This was our first visit and we will not be back.

Tapas on the south side! Cool bartender, friendly chef, awesome décor. They have a small even room where I got to see some good improv. Decent beer and wine selection, not to noisy. Definately be back. Did I mention they have Tapas?

I wish I didn’t have to even give a star. Do NOT buy premium alcohol here they put cheap alcohol in the premium bottles. The place is completely dirty I couldn’t believe I ate there even though the food was decent. Bartender was kind to us but unpleasant to other people. My boyfriend and I started there awkward and by the time we left had an amazing laugh at how shitty this place was.

I was pretty disappointed. The«Outdoor seating» was three plastic tables on a wooden platform. portions were skimpy and although they said that they were in transition, there were like 2 or 3 beers on tap i.e. bud, bud light and probably miller. Not my digs though I am all about supporting local bizz. This place was just disappointing. Not worth a 2nd chance despite the limited options in this hood

I agree with every negative review on here. The food was awful and overpriced. Pretty sure they bought frozen apps from Costco and then put some pretty designs on the plate with crappy sauces. Most was burnt. The drinks were pretty good to numb the awful experience. The only redeeming thing is that I had a Unilocal deal $ 10 for $ 20 and I earned SWA and AADV miles through their dining programs. DONOTRECCOMEND

To the poor sap server who ended up comping our small bites bc it took 45 minutes to come out of the kitchen: 5 stars. I’m sorry buddy. You can come sleep on our couch– I don’t want you to have to work there. Everything else was awful. — the food pricing is laughable. Actually the food is laughable. We got the blue cheese crostini. 4 overcooked slices of bread– a PIECE of crispy spinach– and literally A CRUMBLE of what I think might have been blue cheese and a slice of onion $ 9. A word to the chef: minimalism works when it’s done to perfection and the flavors are on point. Not to be cheap. The blue cheese crostini at Porter Cullen’s is 10,000 times better and tastier. — the chef was fighting with everyone in the joint. I know bc our table had a direct view of his work station. The owner and his buddies stood right in front of his station and smoked e-cigs the whole time so you’d think he’d ask his chef to keep the f-bombs in check, but nope! He took his SWEET time making everything. I literally watched him make it all. Laughable. –the décor is awful. It’s dingy, mismatched and the paint is dripping from the walls. I can do dive bar. I enjoy the dive-bar-ness of say Rusty Nail. This place was gross. –The bathroom was filthy. My favorite part was the sign that talked about the party room. It had all the different«party types» they offered and with a black marker blacked out«baptism». Hilarious. Yeah a kid would catch a disease in there. –the owner/manager clearly cared more for whatever conversation he was having with his friends over their e-cigs than the state of affairs in the bar/kitchen. –the front of the bar is riddled with cigarette butts. Gross. A broom and dustpan. Simple. I will NEVER go back. Such a shame too because I so wanted to have a fun place in OL

Nice little place to take a date, very romantic ! Cozy, quiet enough to talk. Drinks are great, food is great. Staff are very friendly. Don’t expect large portions, this is an appetizer bar. You are paying for quality not quantity.

Omg I’m so shitfaced. Quite honestly if you care to have«fun,» this is the spot. The food is soooo good(I had a dozen BBQ pulled pork) and the drinks are hella strong. GETHEREYO.

This is a great place for a date or just hanging out. Andy P.(owner) has been doing cafes and clubs for 20 plus years and he’s got the recipe down. If you want to get the inside scoop, call ahead and make sure he’s there. Talking with Andy will be the highlight of your stay.

Walked in on a Friday night. Placed looked like a bad episode of bar rescue. Only like 5 people in there with a dj mixing. And one guy dancing by himself. Won’t be back there at all

So I thought it would be a nice evening with my girlfriend at a new place we hadn’t been to. She had bought a groupon worth $ 40, so we wanted to make good use of it. First thing I notice, it’s very small and shabby looking from the outside. The inside was quite dark, too dark for it to be romantic. Also the lack of tables and wait staff made me think it wasn’t a very busy place. Second(this is where it got bad), we each ordered a glass of wine since our other options were quite limited because they were out of at least half a dozen items on the drink menu. I don’t think myself an expert of wine, but I know how a glass of Merlot should taste, and this was nowhere near that. Third, I ordered 4 things: the crab cakes which were inedible, I took one bite and left the rest. Then some beef strips and chicken prosciutto which weren’t terrible, and another item which we actually never received but still got billed for. I of course had it removed telling the waitress we never got it. Now the reason why this entire experience was so dastardly awful, was the service. We arrived between 7:30 and 7:40. After asking 3 separate times, we did not receive a GLASSOFWATER until 8:20 when our last dish came. There was only 3 people working when we came in(the crappy waitress, a bartender and a creepy chef in the back). You may think that I am just ranting here but my father is a sous chef at The Grand Lux Café in Chicago and I know the difference between a great restaurant and a horrible one. By now you should now where«Sip» falls on that scale. I do not recommend this place to anyone, even if you are stopping in for a drink or two. The wait staff clearly are not trained properly and the chef has no idea how to prepare simple appetizers. Not to mention he was«cooking» the whole time without a hairnet or hat, and he had shoulder length gray and black hair. I can’t imagine what fell into our food or if it was even cooked correctly. Hopefully no one visits this place to experience what I did tonight.

It pains me to do this. I wanted to LOVE this place, but I wouldn’t ever come back again. Although my whiskey on the rocks was a nice, heavy pour, it did not redeem the experience. On the positive side, this place has a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere with the absolute perfect romantic lighting. This, however, was completely ruined by the blaring, and I mean LOUD techno music at 8:30pm on a Thursday night. We were the youngest people in here at 25&35. Their demographic, however, is clearly 40−60year old females. Why would you EVER play this bumpy Jersey Shore muscle music that makes it impossible to relax? It makes no sense. Speaking of making no sense, burnt crab cakes on toast points with orange chicken sauce? Disgusting. Gross food, tiny portions, and bad music. This place was a big ball of wrong. Horribly disappointing.

The Fiancée and I decided to try somewhere local to Oaklawn and we were pleasantly surprised with Sip. Some of the flare reminded us of a Tapas spot in Lincoln Park; could use one more dim light. The Apple Ravioli stole the show(and I love BBQ pork). The lamb meatballs were a tad bit over cooked, but flavored well. I am not too excited about watching my chef cook my good; but he followed proper protocol from what I saw. I am tempted to come back on Thursday for open mic.

I was really excited about the possibility of this place! A «tapas» bar in my neck of the woods? Awesome! Having read the reviews, I strolled in on a random Wednesday night with my boo and first impression was that the place was cute and much bigger than I was anticipating. The bartender, a young blond woman, wasn’t very attentive despite the fact that they weren’t really busy. I’ve been to many small plates/tapas bars, but this place by far had the smallest portions I’ve ever had. I can’t remember exactly what we had, and that I guess is my review of the quality of the food.

I asked if they had a menu online via their facebook page, and the response I got back was to «Go fuck yourself» and«Fat girls shouldn’t talk.» I thought they were hacked, so I tried to call or email, but it turns out it’s the owners son? No one ever called or apologized. So, that’s awesome. Fat girls will take their business elsewhere.

Started off a little slow, but once we got into the starters, everything was wonderful! Hubby had the lamb meatballs and pulled pork and really loved them. I’m eating vegetarian and I had tons of choices. Apple ravioli was a favorite of both. We will come again, next time with friends to share even more.

I really wanted to like this place because I missed the gem Vino Tinto and figured an appetizer place would bring a classy establishment to the OL area. I was wrong and extremely disappointed. The waitress we had didnt know much about the menu and was rather rude. The topping of the cake was the fact that the waitress made the Lemondrop Martini and we visually saw her pouring vodka into a marini glass and topping it off with Countrytime Lemonade from a 2 liter. Its bad enough that it was a poor martini, but actually seeing what I was getting for my $ 8-$ 9(dont remember exactly) was the topper. After seeing this we decided against ordering any food and headed to Deja Brew for some more food and cocktails.

I had been waiting patiently for this place to open up and was so excited to try it. It definitely lived up to the expectations that I had. It’s a much needed change of pace in the neighborhood. The lighting is nice and low and the music they were playing was fun. The best part of all… No tv’s! There is a short bar you can sit at and plenty of tables. The service was awesome. Everyone was so friendly. The owner helped me find some bourbon cocktails that I loved and I don’t even like bourbon! I did feel like the wine list could use some improvement. The menu is small but unique and everything was fresh and fabulous! It’s the perfect spot to enjoy some lite bites and cocktails while being able to have a conversation with someone. I can’t wait to get back!

Came here tonight with a group of 9. I got there early and sat at the bar and chatted up one of the owners, the bartender, and a patron. Great personalities! The atmosphere is cool and hip, nice addition to the area. Had a loft feel about it — very spacious. They do need a drink menu — which I think they are working on. They do need a better wine selection, which I think they are working on. I’ll cut them some slack. They’ve only been open 3ish weeks. The wine they had was good, but ran out of the wine I was drinking after 2 glasses. When my group arrived, we sat in the back in what they consider their VIP area — a section across from the kitchen. Doesn’t sound like much, but it was really neat. There was this cool statue — and Tymm is going to get a male version of it soon! Watching the kitchen action was fun — and the smells of the food was tantalizing! I had the BBQ chicken pizza — wonderful! Great crust and I would get again. Eveyone in my group enjoyed their food — think tapa size portions. Had a great time — spent 2.5 hours hanging out. I can’t wait to go back and try more of the food. Great service — great atmosphere — great people!
