West 5th Cleaners

Yikes, these reviews say it all. I’ve been going to Kurt cleaners for years but when they closed down, I decided to give this place a try. Though I thought the prices were a little steep, there isn’t much else in the area so I bit the bullet. At first there wasn’t an issue; one of then workers wasn’t particularly pleasant, but she wasn’t outright rude so I let it go. However, when I pointed out a stain that still wasn’t removed after a second time, she was extremely dismissive and rude. I understand that certain stains can’t be removed completely without ruining the fabric, I wasn’t even asking for a refund, and I was polite. What I got in return was a complete disinterest in engaging with a customer, a total lack of any further assistance, and as mentioned, rudeness. Combine that with the hidden «review» from the owner blaming dissatisfied customers for not being educated enough, there’s no way I’d use this dry cleaners again. I’d rather drive to a different location than give them more of my money.

Very satisfied with this dry cleaner. Never any problems. Also the tailer working there is amazing !

If you want to overpay for something that isn’t even a half-​assed job, this is the place for you. I brought in a bunch of clothes and some came out fine. However, they gave me back a pair of pants that looked as if they hadn’t even touched them and my white jacket had two stains on it that it didn’t have before. They overcharge and can’t even do their job right.
The only reason I even went to them was because Kurt’s Dry Cleaners around the corner closed right before the New Year. This was the first and last time I ever went to this place.

Avoid! After bringing in a suit with a lapel stain, they cleaned that stain fine, and added a new one on the opposite breast, over the pocket. They took it back, didn’t fully remove the stain, and told me that they’ve done the best they could, and weren’t interested in discussing the issue, this after charging me money for the work. According to the man behind the counter, they took responsibility for the stain by re-​doing the suit. That’s not taking responsibility, that’s the barest minimum of service.
They further insinuated that I was lying and that it had the other stain originally, and in either case, their work is done, and paid for and I should leave.
DO NOT USE.

I’ve been giving in work clothes for dry cleaning on a regular basis. They do a pretty good job with my husbands dress shirts and pants. My blouses on the other hand always a problem. I would get back my silk blouses with multiple stains, I brought them back and they cleaned it for free second time. I didn’t think it was too big of a deal as long as they corrected the problem. Today I picked up my clothes and 4 of my silk blouses were ruined. They decided to pin them down to the hanger with those little needles. They made visible holes in the blouses and ruined them. It was absolutely unessasary as they could easily hang on the hangers without the pins. I’m so upset. I’ll go back to them but doubt they will do anything to fix the situation. These shirts are ruined and other than paying for the damage there is really nothing they can do. And I highly doubt they will reimburse me for it. Definitely changing my dry cleaners. Do not recommend for delicate women’s wear.

This dry cleaners did it for me — I can no longer trust ANY dry cleaners on the planet Earth because of this place. Mind you — we started using them because another dry cleaning place at the corner of Ocean Parkway and Neptune lost my husband’s custom tailored Italian suit and has, as of yet — and it’s been 6 months — take any responsibility for the loss and get back to us even though we sent numerous letters to the owner trying to work something out. We thought the West 5^th cleaners would save us. We were clearly wrong,
The West 5^th cleaners… I feel ashamed to be a part of Russian-​speaking community when I face Russian-​owned businesses like this! I come back from vacation and go pick up my dry cleaning only to find one of my favorite cashmere sweaters with a metal appliqué on the back completely ruined. Metal sequins are spread all over the sweater, yet no one seemed to have noticed and packed it nicely into plastic. (The sweater was cleaned many times before with no issues) Sadly, I discover this after paying for the order (two more items were cleaned fine) and a) I am NOT offered a refund or apologies on the spot, b) stupid me does not ask for the receipt back and no one offers it back to me and c) the owner, Alec or Alex, TAKES OFF the receipt copy from the cleaned items and says he is sorry for the issue and that he’ll work something out. This is not the first order with them and I know the receipt states that in case of the damaged garmet I’d be compensated X10 the price I payed to clean the item. So I assume the business owner is an honorable human being and walk out thinking all will be ok, even though I no longer have my receipt.
Well, today I get a call saying that all I can get is a store credit in the amount of 50% of the price I paid for the sweater when I bought it. I am also told that whoever cleaned my sweater before didn’t really clean it — just blew dry it — and that the sweater should not have been cleaned in the machine (really? well aren’t you, Alex, a dry cleaning professional?). I am telling the person that the offer does not sound good enough considering it’s a 100% cashemere sweater and I add that I do not believe the terms on their receipt say what I am being told, and what do I hear back? «What does it say? It says we’re not responsible for the damages. I can not give you money back». To my «Why?» I am again being shut off with «I can’t give you money back». I tell the dry cleaners I’ll think about the offer, but all I really want to do is to curl up in a corner and cry.
