This place was the best. I loved all of their beer(especially that radeberger kolsch) and their currywurst. You will be missed.

You know what I think of the f***ing Wech? I’m sick of this c**ks***ing motherf***ing Wech! Oh sorry, I thought you wanted to hear Wech Slurs. I mis-heard you. You wanted to hear my opinion of Wechslers! Okay, that makes more sense. Sad to hear that it’s closed, but not too surprised as it wasn’t too amazing. I’ll give them a very, very generous four stars because they’re serving up something that is usually only found in Germany, and they’re making a decent effort. However, neither the Currywurst nor the sauce it was drenched in, really wowed me at all. They didn’t remind me of what I had in Germany, nor did I particularly love them. They also weren’t bad, and as a late night snack it might really rock your world. So I’ll give it a 4. And I’m bloody tired of darn well swearing. Which is why I’m now using Weakslurs.

This place is great. Sausages, leberkase & German beer. Very sad to see them closed. I hope they reopen.

Looks like this place is closed. We walked past it yesterday keen to check it out based on previous reviews and it had a sign on the door saying it has been repossessed by the landlord. Sucks! Was so keen to try it out!

The last time I had currywurst was when i was actually in Germany. Wechsler’s was even better!!! I ordered the currywurst and my boyfriend ordered the vegetarian, which he really enjoyed. It paired perfectly with the wheat beer that was recommended by the waitress. And I couldn’t stop eating the fries… So crispy and so delicious! We found out that the owner and his wife are from Germany and have a recipe that’s been passed down generation to generation. The owner has pictures of his own great-great grandparents on the wall, which really adds to the ambiance and vibe of the place. I can’t wait to go back to NYC just to go back to this place… unless they open a place in LA!

So delicious and sexy seating with the small tables! Amazing curry ketchup, fries and sausage included in the small currywurst(for only $ 7)! Great beers(mostly lighter ones). The other sausages included in the platter with the kale and red cabbage sides were also yummy. Hit the spot for late night filling food in the East Village!

So much good beer plus the option to do a flight — I’m sold! Really love the weihenstephaner selection and the laid back vibe of the place! Must try the currywurst next time.

Bring cash[1]. Buy the currywurst[2]. Like beer? Don’t like beer? Just want a buzz? They’ve got beer. And how! Depending on the variety you choose you might not even have a choice of glass size. You’ll just get assaulted with a huge glass of heady goodness. Their currywurst is the tops. Get a side of fries and go to town. If you’re into sauces, indulge in their mustards, ketchups, and mayonnaises. Now smile. Super service[3] rounds things out. [1] C’mon Wechsler’s, it’s 2014! I promise I’ll order more if you start taking plastic. [2] I just added«currywurst» to my browser’s dictionary. Google should know better. [3] If you see Julia, tell her hi from the table of Asians.

Small place with bar seating but also tables/booths in the back so good for intimate moments but also group fun! Food was yum, not the largest portions but definitely interesting German food; all German sausages and good side dishes. They had a small variety of common beers but a pretty cool choice of German beers and relatively okay priced($ 6-$ 8 for large glasses.) Overall enjoyed the experience but nothing all that special.

Currywurst! $ 7 for a small sausage in a great curry sauce and the most delicious fries outside of the golden arches. If that doesn’t get you running down to this fantastic little restaurant then the 4 German Beers on tap should. These were tall beers and poured to the top of the glass for $ 8. There are two stools outside so we sat there to enjoy people watching on the street. Located right next to the International Bar and across the street from the Tile Bar, Wechsler’s gives you a chance to get some good authentic munchies after some rehydration activities. We shared the small $ 7 currywurst and for us that was perfect, we were excited about going to Luke’s around the corner and didn’t want to fill up. This was a great find and a tasty treat!

The currywurst, the fries, the beers, and the brats. Sausages make me happy, good fries make me happier, wash it all down with a crisp cold Reissdorf Kölsch and my Chronic Bitch Face will be gone for a good few hours. The place is kind of tiny so seating is limited, but the food is cheap and delicious! Oh and this place is picky boyfriend approved!

Currywurst? More like Currybest. Tasty wieners. Cooked to perfection. The Fries were soggy. Drenched by the curry ketchup. But Germany wins. Try the grapefruit beer. Very light and refreshing. Would come back again.

How the germans came upon curry… I don’t really know. But in fine german style, they’ve made efficient and practical use of it. Curry brats, curry ketchup… not at all bad. I like this joint… it’s a hole in the wall and they can pack quite a few people in there. Very friendly and helpful staff and great food. The spicy merguez is crack… as are the fries with the curry ketchup. The bavarian pretzels, supposedly imported straight from the motherland, was also worthy. I wish I’d gone here more when I lived in the hood.

one bratwurst and fries for $ 7, guess that’s typical NYC pricing The fries were nothing special and the bratwursts were mediocre at best. The currywurst sauce was pretty good though so props for that A pint of Hoegarden beer goes for $ 9, a bit too steep in my opinion. What really killed my rating for this place is the fact that when I went in on a Monday at 1pm to try it out it took them 30 minutes to get me my order of a small currywurst. I also had to ask 3 times for my water. To be fair they only had one person working, but I see that as their fault for not hiring at least two people. Since it was only one person working it looked like he was running everywhere and trying to do everything — including handling cash with the hands that cook. Not the best idea. Cut the wait time down to 10 minutes or less and I might reconsider this place.

Danke schön to Wechslers for the best(and most affordable) Curryworst in town! My husband and I came across this place by chance one wintery night after trying to find a table at Rolf’s and failing miserably. Aside from exceptional German fare, we were looking for someplace warm and cozy where we could cuddle up and enjoy our dinner without distraction. This place certainly delivered! Wechslers is easy to miss, its narrow storefront is wedged between two larger businesses and the dark glass doesn’t betray much of what’s inside. But once we walked in, the fragrant aroma of sizzling sausages filled our nostrils and we were hooked. Here’s a breakdown of our experience. Ambience: Dark, cozy, anonymous. The interior of this place is small and probably fits a maximum of 20 people. But it’s filled with cozy little nooks and corners where you could have quiet conversations with a friend or a date. A couple of wooden long tables that seat about 5 – 6 people line one wall, while a couple of elevated booths line the other. My husband and I sat in a wooden booth. Very private and cozy. Service: The food is cooked at the front of the restaurant by the guy who also mans the bar and pours the beers. There was one floor server who took and delivered orders for the whole place. Both men were gracious and helpful. No complaints on this end. Food: The food was definitely the star of the show. Curryworst– I’d never had Curryworst, but it turned out to be slices of thick savory sausage smothered in a rich ketchup-curry sauce. It came with a side of crispy shoestring fries. Quite delicious! Schnitzel– The Schnitzel ended up being two medallion-sized pieces of hammered pork, breaded and fried, served between two soft buns with lettuce and lemon wedges on the side. The meat was tender, but a little more bland than I would have liked. I asked for a side of the white sauce they served with the schnitzel, and that cured things immediately. Gluhwein — If you are here in the winter, this is a must-try! Their gluhwein(which is essentially mulled, spiced hot wine) was sensational and just like the gluhwein I’ve had in Europe. Rich, steaming, spicy and a hint sweet. Lovely. Beer — Of course, what would a German restaurant be without a hefty selection of beers! I was quite impressed by the quality of the ale I tried, which was stout, slightly bitter, and perfectly German. Overall verdict: This place is definitely worth trying with a date or small group of friends! It is also surprisingly affordable, with our bill coming up to only $ 60(this included two entrees, and two rounds of drinks each). Delicious and cheap, what’s not to like?

Wollen sie wurst? Translation: Do you want some sausage? That was the first(and basically only) German I learned, and it applies perfectly here. I first discovered this place by walking by and seeing a sign that said Currywurst on it. I just got back from a Eurotrip, and Currywurst was a popular streetfood in Berlin so I quickly bookmarked the place. It’s basically just a cut up bratwurst with a lot of sweet ketchup topped with curry powder. Simple as hell, but I don’t know of any other place in NYC that does it, not even the various biergartens. Compared to the ones I had in Berlin, Wechsler’s obviously isn’t as good, but it’s close enough. The brat has enough flavor to hold its own but the skin isn’t ‘snappy’ enough. Where it falls short is the amount of curry flavor in the ketchup: not enough. To each their own, but I feel like it’s missing some kick. A small Currywurst comes with a healthy portion of fries, and all this for $ 7. I’d say it’s a pretty good bargain as it leaves me feeling pretty full. With a beer on the side, I’m definitely stuffed! They’ve got a decent tap selection with around 8 different German beers and a bunch more in bottles. The prices are fairly reasonable at about $ 7 – 9 per pint, definitely not cheap, but comparable to other German places. I do wish they had the giant steins like they do at other German venues, but I guess Wechsler’s isn’t the kind of place for that. It’s quite small and probably only seats 15 people in total. Don’t let the bar area in front fool you, there’s additional seating in the back. I can’t wait to go back and try the rest of their menu, meaning some schnitzel… I love schnitzel and it’s such a fun word to say!

Curry Wurst here are amazing! Beer selection is great! We ordered the large curry wurst(the curry sauce were yummy!), a 2 sausage platter with 2 sides. We had the lamb sausage and pork/beef with cheese sausage. So good. It is much cheaper than some places we have been too. Note that is CASH Only!

Flights. Flights. Flights. OMG, flights. Let’s drink some beer. Let’s drink some beer. Let’s drink some beer. Let’s drink some beer! Needed to find a bar to kill time while waiting for a table at Caracas last Saturday night. The place was pretty empty at 9pm so we had no trouble scoring a big table in the front. The beers were great, the price was right, and the ambiance couldn’t be better. Small, chill little EV nook. Love.

Mouthwatering Currywurst and Fries! The menu is simple. They offer sausages, sides(ie. Fries, Kale, Potato Salad), and a wide selection of beers. The employees here are super friendly and helpful. The restaurant is very relaxed and has dim lighting. There is a clean restroom towards the back right. I decided to try the Currywurst with Fries($ 7). The server brought over some ketchup and mayo as well. The sausage is made with pork and veal. It had a nice bite on the outside. The meat was juicy and seasoned well. The homemade fries were warm and crisp. They went perfectly with the sausage. The tomato curry sauce on top was addicting. It’s slightly sweet and savory. They need to bottle that sauce and sell it in stores. Overall, a great place to visit for a quick bite and beer.

Hurra! The Christmas market in Union Square brought back memories of experiencing the Christmas season in Germany. I was flooded with a wave of nostalgia for one of my guilty pleasures — currywurst! Currywurst is a bratwurst sliced into rounds, served with a sweet tomato ketchup sauce, and curry powder on top. And a side of fries too. You can’t have currywurst without fries. Currywurst in Germany is strictly a snack, not a proper meal. Something to eat while on the run, so it’s sold exclusively at Imbiss stands(Snack stands). The worst places just put plain ketchup and curry powder over the wurst, while the best places have a special currywurst sauce that’s sweeter, more tomato-ey, and thicker than regular ketchup and more curry powder on top. Unilocal directed me to Wechsler’s, which by the way means changer in German, and suddenly I did feel transported back to Germany. There was a certain German sense of coziness, Gemuetlichkeit, with dark wood and the oh-so-intoxicating smells of real German sausages frying. It’s a really small place, about the size of Pommes Frites that’s a block over on 2nd Ave. There are a few seats up front, two tables that can each hold 7 people in the back, and a few more bar-like seats along the wall as well. The«small» order of currywurst is quite ample — an entire sausage and huge serving of shoestring fries doused in the currywurst ketchup and curry powder. Most importantly, served the German way with a lilliputian fork. One bite and bliss! It is exactly like the many many many currywursts I’ve eaten at countless Imbiss stands shivering in the cold, but enjoying the warm bites of savory sausage. The shoestring fries are unfortunately too thin to withstand soaking in the ketchup. They got soggy and limp pretty quickly. If the fries were thicker, they would be better. Still, I can’t really complain because it’s rare that I find a place that will give me the goods that I had grown so fond of back in the home country. ****CASHONLY**** Get away from the winter chill by enjoying a little German coziness, food, and drinks at Wechslers. The food’s so good that it’ll have you singing«Deutschland, Deutschland über alles.» Or maybe not.
