Great happy hour til 9. However the place smells weird and the food isn’t that good. But it is very cheap and a good place to get drinks if you aren’t trying to spend much money.
This place has a sweet happy hour deal that features $ 5-$ 6 cocktails from 5 – 10 pm, so naturally it gets packed very quickly. I like that the deal is not restricted to the bar like other happy hour deals. The food was good enough, but the Lychee Martini was definitely a highlight. It appeared to be what most ppl were ordering. We actually saw very few ppl eating. This is a great place to drop by for a cheap cocktail or pre-game. I shall return.

This place can get really packed and noisy so it was quite hard to chat with friends for me. Had to speak really loudly to each other. Tables are so close to each other you can almost feel the stranger next to you breathing on you or talking to you. However, they do have great lychee martinis and other drinks as well. I’ve tried some of their food too and it’s not bad but could be pricey. Definitely not the place you want to have dinner, maybe a snack or something to chow on while enjoying your drinks.

Why don’t more bars don’t offer happy hour seven days a week??? As someone who has only been to your typical 5pm-8pm happy hour twice(I know, I know), I miss out on specials. And that makes me sad. Because why pay more money when you can pay less money? Seems simple enough, right? In any case, Verlaine, as the 1200 other reviewers have already reiterated ad nauseam, offers an unbelievable happy hour. Not only does it apply seven days a week, but it also goes until TENFREAKINGPM. That’s your pregame right there. Due to this shining star of an idea, it’s not surprising that Verlaine uncomfortable packed up until, well, TENFREAKINGPM. But in my opinion, it’s still absolutely worth a trip. Came to Verlaine with a friend at around 8:45pm on a Saturday night for dinner and drinks. What. A. Scene. At the front of the venue, there are a handful of larger«party» tables that looked like total free for alls. Drinks and food a-flowin. The bar, despite being the main draw here, actually doesn’t have much seating. So if you come here during the evening/night, you’ll most likely see a bunch of small clusters of people congregating in the long, narrow area between the rest of Verlaine’s tables and the physical bar itself. In retrospect, I’m seriously glad we opted for food/table service. Up until 10pm, the space was all kind of loud and packed. Guess it’s part of the experience? And then as mentioned, it became eerily empty in the blink of an eye post-happy hour. Pretty comical realization. More about those small tables. They initially told us that there was a 30 minute wait but we were actually seated almost immediately. The space is essentially a thin rectangle, meaning most tables are small and line an entire wall. This would be fine(and makes sense given the layout), but it became abundantly clear when they couldn’t even scrounge up a second menu for us that bar/party service was quite a bit faster/more efficient than table service. That was my only serious qualm of the night. Our cocktails came out quickly, yet we needed to virtually beg to get water glasses. As fantastic as those drinks were(I’ll get there), ya gotta have some water with your meal. And, you know, hydration. This kept up until happy hour ended – flagging down our waitress was serious burdensome and borderline offensive. Otherwise, our experience was fantastic. So, just be seriously redundant, I’ll give some gratuitous praise to these holy Lychee Martinis. I’m guessing they’re not even that complex, but holy hell are they delicious. And for six bucks, holy hell are they dangerous. If you’ve read any of my other reviews, you know I like trying as much as I possibly can at restaurants/bars, whether it be drinks or food. But these cocktails were both so good and so cheap that we each got two, despite the rest of the drink menu looking pretty impressive in its own right. But seriously, don’t pass these up. The hype, for once, is absolutely warranted. Food-wise, our waitress told us we’d be full after three small plates(I’m used to ordering 4 – 5 at tapas spots). We were suspicious, but followed her guidance. As it turns out, I was hungry a few hours later. Which is not good when you’ve already been drinking. At least we ordered some tasty fare! Below: Summer Rolls: Apple, mint, jicama, carrots, vermicelli noodles wrapped in rice paper(A) As fresh and light as it gets. Perfect for summer, as the name would suggested. Fresh, flavorful and comes with some yummy dipping sauce. The only problem here was the premature removal of said dipping sauce. I was still eating, kind sir, and I would like proper dunking material. Shrimp in chili/lime/some other stuff: B+/A– I never know how to rate shrimp. Sometimes shrimp is just shrimp. This was very good shrimp. Have I said shrimp enough? It was a simple preparation(this plate isn’t on the online food menu so I can’t remember all components) but spicy and slightly tangy. They’ve got a lot of shrimp on the menu, so they better do it will. If this dish is any indication, the other shrimp options probably follow suit. Steamed portabello/spinach dumplings: A Seriously delicious for«just vegetables». Couldn’t tell you what else was in the filling other than the two main draws, but the bite as a whole was seriously yummy. 5 or 6 to a plate. If I had to choose, this was probably my favorite dish of the night. Because we finished these last, I had the benefit/consolation prize of this using the dumpling dipping sauce for my summer roll. So the positives for this dish quite literally spilled over into those of another. Final notes: –Come here with friends. This place is far too loud/hectic for a date. –Our food and drinks actually came out quite quickly considering how bad the service was otherwise. Basically, the speed at which you get what you want is very much correlated with the speed at which you track down your server. If you can optimize that, you’ll be good to go.

I came as a group of 12 on Sat evening for a birthday celebration, booking tables 2 weeks in advance. Sarah from Verlaine was very responsive during the whole process and always reachable as the size of my party changed. At 7pm, the place was half full but it started to get very crowded by 9pm. Despite being busy, table service was attentive and the food and happy hour drinks were great. My group spent around $ 35 per person for dinner and many drinks. Overall, always a great place to start the evening as there are lots of bars and lounges nearby for afterwards. If coming in a large group, would strongly recommend booking in advance. They also have a lovely front lounge space. Thanks to Sarah and the team for a wonderful evening!

Verlaine serves my FAVORITE drink in NYC — the lychee martini. I recently came here on a weeknight after 4 – 5 years since the last time(sorry!) but their lychee martini is tasty and strong like I remember it. On an empty stomach, I walk out half-drunk after 1 drink. There was a slight increase in the Happy Hour price from $ 5($ 4 on Mondays) to $ 6 but as long as their HH hours are still until 10pm everyday(and the bartender is cool), I’m a happy lychee martini girl! The décor may seem a little too classy and sophisticated at first but the bartender and staff are really friendly and chill. I felt right at home when I slipped into a seat at the bar and was greeted by the bartender. Note: they have other drinks on their HH menu and their food is overpriced for their size but 5 stars for their HH lychee martinis!

5 stars for the $ 6 lychee martinis alone AND the fact that their Happy Hour is 5 – 10PM, which is basically unheard of. I will definitely be back to try the food.

$ 6 Lychee martinis for HH!!! Yesssss count me in! Been dying to try verlaines after so many of my friends raved about it and it definitely lived up to the hype. Came on a wednesday around 730 pm and had no problem getting a table. Happy hour is 5−10pm everyday. HH comes with $ 6 Lychee Martinis, Sangria, Bloody Mary, House Wine, Basic Cocktails and $ 3 Yuengling bottles. Lychee martinis were soo yummy and perfectly strong too! I tried the sangria but felt it was too sweet and not strong so not worth. Stick to the lychee martinis! Servers were really attentive. Will be back for sure!

It looks like the Lychee Martinis here are now $ 6(they used to be $ 5), but that’s still a great deal. They’re very sweet and very strong(almost a guaranteed headache). During the happy hour, they’re pouring these drinks out of jugs — they’re that popular! But there’s few places in NYC you can get such a bang for your buck, have a trendy, young, attractive atmosphere and even eat for so cheap! And the Lychee Martinis go down easily for sure. Food is around $ 8 – 10 per dish, and if you order three dishes and share them with a friend, it’s a cheap and filling night out. Can be hard to get a table to eat due to this place’s popularity, but it’s worth it if you can(and they have vegetarian and meat dishes). We expected it to taste mediocre because it was so cheap, and maybe it was the lychee martini speaking, but it’s actually quite good. The best part, afterward, you can go down the block to Sugar Sweet Sunshine, and finish the night with some amazing chocolate pudding. An inexpensive and fun night!

If you love lychee and if you love happy hours this is the place to be! Situated in the East Village, Verlaine has stolen a piece of my heart. Come inside and you’ll be transported to an Asian Night Market. Dragons, lanterns, and a soft red lighting all tie together to transport you to the Far East. The fun, funky music give it all a modern feel. I came here for happy hour and was delighted. First of all, the drinks on the happy hour menu which included awesome craft cocktails such as the Lychee Martini and Vietnamese Bloody Mary were all only $ 6. I got here around 5PM and beat the rush. It was moderately busy when I arrived, but was instantly packed around the time that we received our second round of drinks. It was totally evident that this joint was popular with the locals. The service was amazing. Our waitress always made sure that we had everything we needed. And that brings me to the drinks. The Southeast Sangria was a delicate blend of red wine and lychee. It was a delicious and strong Asian inspired rendition of the Spanish classic. Topped with pieces of lychee, this drink was sweetened to perfection. The lychee martini was also strong, but perfectly balanced. Both drinks were unique and a steal! If you’re looking for a great happy hour in NYC, this is the place to go. I took advantage of a few happy hours in the city and this was definitely my favorite!

two words – lychee martinis. I’ve been obsessed with them ever since and I blame this place. Such a great spot for happy hour, those drinks are SO good. I didn’t eat but I’m sure the food is good too, I cant wait to come back and try!

Verlaine has been a long time favorite of mine. I can’t even remember now how long I’ve been going, but it’s always great. I will say, I don’t know if it’s my older age, but it’s super loud there, especially on a Saturday night. Anyway the daily happy hour(even on weekends!) cannot be beat. When I started going it was $ 5 lychee martinis, sangria, bloodies and well drinks, but it has now gone up to $ 6. I make more money now than I used to, so it’s ok. I was there this past Saturday with one friend. We got there maybe a quarter after 8, and it was pretty packed, but they had a table towards that back and we were seated right away. Even though it’s kind of crazy there the service is really good. Our waitress would come around and make sure everything was ok, and see if we needed another drink. Also the food is good here. My friend and I split summer rolls, and I got grilled salmon with veggies. All very good, and other food I’ve had in the past was always good too. This is def one of my go-to places when I want to get drunk, and not spend a ton of money. The drinks are pretty strong, and always delicious! It’s kind of dark, and really loud, but it’s always a good time.

I was invited out to this place for drinks and initially hesitated to step in once i saw the bouncer(i just wasn’t in the mood for a club environment and assumed that’s what i was headed for) and I was totally wrong. The bouncer was there because on certain nights they do have said club environment, but i guess i came early. The décor was beautiful and i fell in love instantly. It was a mix between asian and african american culture. What a phenomenal idea. I grabbed seats at the bar and was in for a ride. the«Southeast Sangria» cocktail was off the chain(i even got a chance to try the lychee martini drink — a must try!). I was definitely satisfied in the drinks department — also in the food. i ordered the shrimp empanadas and the chicken wings. Both were to die for and I can’t wait to try them again. The main reason why I would DEFINITELY return is because of the service. From start to finish, Oscar put a smile on my face. He was hospitable and very much apart of a great night. Thank you Oscar for your hospitality — I will return:)

4.25 stars My friend made reservations for her birthday dinner and she made an excellent choice. Verlaine is a quick 3 – 5 minute walk from the F, J, M, or Z train stop at Delancey /Essex Street. Two friends got here earlier than me and already ordered the lychee martini for themselves. I took a sip and it was not strong — which I like since I cannot tolerate strong alcoholic drinks and I rarely drink too. A lot people raved on Unilocal that the lychee martini was the drink to get. I decided get one for myself and I actually finished it. My friend ordered the Vietnamese Bloody Mary and she didn’t like it. My other friend took a sip and didn’t like it either and she said that it had a weird after taste. My friend just returned the drink and got other lychee martini. There were 8 of us total and we got a bunch of different tapas and small plates to share. The food here was surprisingly good and we had no complaints. From the places that I have been too, the bar food is usually dry or tastes awful. We ordered the following: –Verlaine Spring Rolls(I ordered this and it was good) –Spicy Chicken Dumplings(We ordered the fried type and it was spicy) –Five Spice Calamari(Very good) –Fried Ginger Chicken Wings(For some reason, I thought it was spicy. Maybe it’s the ginger?) –Chicken Satay(Comes with coconut rice — amazing! The chicken satay was great and tastes just like how my dad makes it. I recommend this tapas dish). –Vegetable Tempura Overall, positive experience. The place wasn’t loud. I could actually hear and talk to my friends. The drinks came out pretty fast; although a few of us including myself asked for a glass of water a few times. It also didn’t take super long for us to get our food. The bathroom was clean and there was a mural painting inside too. I would recommend to make a reservation to secure a spot if you are coming with a group of friends. The place was getting crowded when we were leaving. Note: There’s a bouncer that checks your ID prior to entering.

A perfect opportunity for happy hour drinks that lasts until 8pm. It has definitely been my go-to spot for a fun spot to hang out after work, on a Friday night. I have yet to stop by on the weekends but I imagine it to be insanely busy. Lychee Martinis are my drink of choice next to the sangrias. It comes with a generous pour in an atypical glass(nope, not a martini glass). The vibe is warm and friendly and can accommodate small or medium sized groups. Don’t think about bringing groups larger than 5. They serve food but I’ve yet to try anything on the menu, so I have little comment about on that front.

Snooty waitresses and the lounge /table service was inconsistent. My friend says it’s gotten more exclusive recently as popularity increased. Lychee martinis are pretty on point though. Good happy hour deal!

Verlaine is the golden goose of Happy Hours, it has great small plates, an infamous and delicious signature cocktail(have a lychee martini or 3) and generally good music. It’s ususally a good stop on the way to a dinner or different bar. The high ceilings make the small space seem larger. It has a trendy feel with dim red lighting. It can be packed and it can be really bridge-and-tunnel at times so it’s key to get there early enough to snag your friends a table. Also watch out because people get SMASHED on the happy hour specials and many a time I’ve seen someone carried out. You MUST get the ginger chicken wings and the summer rolls, I crave them both.

Caution: lychee martini’s here are strong af. If you want to be really tipsy almost drunk, have 2 or 3. If you want to be ratchet af, have more and it will slowly sneak up on you! Sangrias here were pretty good as well. Not a fan of sangria but if I was able to chug the entire thing then I’d say it was pretty good. Either that or I was already at my drunk stage, which is very likely. There’s also food there to munch on as well! A good alternative would be to meet up at a friend’s and everyone chip in for a bottle which would be way cheaper and you can unleash your inner animal without feeling bad. Overall a good place to «pre-game» if you want to have that lounge-y/faaaawncy vibe.

Even on a Wednesday night, this place was PACKED. It’s a bit too loud for my taste — I had to raise my voice a lot higher for my friend(who was sitting right across from me) to hear me. We came here for post-meal drinks — and due to Verlaine’s wonderful 7-days-a-week 5−10pm happy hour deals(which is the most flexible happy hour I’ve seen) — we got $ 6 lychee martinis. They’re pretty good here — mixed well, strong and yummy without being overly syrupy/sugary. The bouncer does ID very hard here, just FYI. He looked at both the front and the back of my ID card very closely and examined me for a while. It is crowded and loud — don’t come here for a nice conversation, because the waitstaff will rush you to order more/leave. But I will be back if I’m ever thirstin’ for a lychee martini.

Lychees, Lychees, Lychees!!! Yeah, I go here for the Lychee drinks that go for $ 6 everyday from 5pm — 10pm. They also have other drink specials, but sign me up for the Lychees. They are strong and taste good. Enough said! Besides that, the vibe here is nice, the food isn’t bad, and the staff is cool. Depending on your preference, certain nights also get a lot more crowded than others. Of course Fridays are one of those nights, but also Sunday nights when there is live Latin Band performing, Los Hacheros. This is always a treat. It’s festive and the small floor area transforms into a crowded gathering of people salsa dancing. It’s a lovely experience.

Came here a group of friends after dinner. Happy hour to 10 pm! How can we pass that up!!! The menu consisted of Asian dishes and tapas. We were also made aware that they have a salsa band either sat or sun night, I cant remember which, oops. My group of 7 didn’t wait long to be seated and we ordered a round of lychee martinis. Lychee martinis for $ 6 how can you go wrong? We did wait about 15 – 20 mins for our first round but it was definitely worth it. They were delicious! We immediately ordered another round since we thought they were going to take a long time. This round took like 5 mins to come to the table. We just sat around chatting and catching up while enjoying our drinks. Great atmosphere to just relax with friends after work. I will be back soon to try the food.

I only come here for the HH specials(Everyday until 10PM!): $ 5 Vietnamese Bloody Marrys & Lychee Martinis. I attempted to order food once but that took forever and it tasted like it came from a microwave. However, I would give them the benefit of the doubt that it was due to the fact that it was pretty packed and I might have been a bit inebriated. Great cheap spot to pregame in LES! There’s also $ 1 pizza around the block ;)

This place is quite narrow but very cozy. With happy hours boasting $ 4 yuenglings, and $ 6 lychee martinis and sangrias from 5PM to 10PM what’s there not to love. I tried the martinis and they tasted pretty great. I can’t comment to the strength of them, but I know my friends were knocking them back and were quite intoxicated afterwards. In terms of food, I had the lo mein with chicken. The bowl was a little small, but it filled me up. It was a little spicy and salty, but overall pretty good. The staff here was on point, constantly checking in with us to make sure that we were OK and that our drinks were always full. Very friendly.

Happy hour is the best hour & this place keeps the party going to 10p. Verlaine’s in the heart of the LES and is packed all night. The lychee martini is the hot item at $ 6, but the wines at $ 6 and apps around $ 10 are good too. Service is excellent and the atmosphere is cool. Don’t come with more than a couple friends max — this place is a tight squeeze! But do come if you’re looking for some 5-star eavesdropping entertainment(the tables are that close.) On one side of us was a hysterical first date where the guy was totally pretending to be a doctor. The other side was three women in a heated debate over Adele’s vs Justin Bieber’s soulfulness. Lucky for me, that one quickly escalated to an all out argument over one of them sleeping with another one’s ex-boyfriend… **sips lychee martini** :-) Verlaine is a cool late HH spot close to several trains too. I def recommend checking it out if you’re in the area.

I’ve been here several times in the past few years but mostly for happy hour. I most recently came on a Sunday evening and here how it goes. Ambience: We were actually going to fat baby next door but it was closed. We were pleasantly surprised to hear live salsa music coming from Verlaine. I am not sure if this is an every Sunday event but it was soo much fun. There were people dancing and the band was soo good. I also got a chance to practice my salsa moves. Drinks: Their lychee martinis are just amazing… I can’t get enough. Service: Bartender was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend.

My friend received a promotion for being writing the 1000th review for Verlaine on Unilocal and she was able to bring a group of friends for free Lychee Martinis! I’ve been to Verlaine before but just for the drinks. I wouldn’t normally come here for food, but this time I was starving. I ordered the Sake Shrimp Skewers with garlic teriyaki sauce & coconut rice. The coconut rice was disgustingly sweet and had a really unpleasant texture. The shrimp skewers themselves were great. I also tried one of my friend’s fried Spicy Chicken Dumplings. Also delicious. It’s really crispy and the sesame ginger sauce was a good dipping sauce. The drinks are definitely better than the food. The $ 6 Lychee Martinis seem to be the staple. I find them made somewhat inconsistently. The 1st time I was here, the martinis were really strong. The 3rd time, mine was really sweet and weak, whereas my friend’s was really strong and bitter. My second time here, I remember getting the St. Verlaine and Suko Sangria. I don’t remember what either tasted like, but I remember liking both of them. This time around, I got a taste of the AVP and Saigon Bellini. The AVP has an interesting, almost herb-like flavor because of the lemongrass. Saigon Bellini is amazing though if you like passion fruit. Service here is pretty patchy, probably because the place was so packed. Our waitress passed by our table several times without seeing us trying to flag her down, actually she was probably ignoring us. Either that or she was always at the other end of the room or missing completely. The food also took an outrageously long time to come. When I was finally able to flag down our waitress, she said it was coming soon, but 20 min. later, still no food. I asked her again, and she said it was coming soon. 20 min. later, still no food. I normally wouldn’t have minded, but I was starving at the moment. Still, this bar has an awesome vibe and great drinks. I suggest getting food elsewhere beforehand, but this is definitely a place to go with a group of friends.

Happy hour is the best around! Everyday from 5pm to 10pm! Lychee martini’s, sangria, Bloody Mary, etc.!! Xavier is the best bartender! Amazing lychee martini’s and this delicious shot he put together for my group and I with ginger, lime and agave! Came on a Sunday night and couldn’t wait for 8’o’clock Cuban salsa band but I still had an awesome time! Calamari was great with the honey mustard. We should’ve ordered the steamed spinach dumplings fried because they sort of fell apart but they were still good. The fried spicy chicken dumplings weren’t really spicy but they were tasty. Overall, I love this place. The manager Gary seems like a real cool guy all about making his customers feel right. Can’t wait to come back!

Came here on Wednesday 7÷29÷15 with my friends for happy hour. One of my friends highly suggested coming here for the Lychee Martini. Initially it tasting just okay to me but after a while I started to like it more and more and left having about 5 or 6. Good stuff! Food: everyone knows I love calamari. So I was please that this place can make them right. The peanut sauce was different but good better than the tarter sauce. Service: Good. The waitress was nice and friendly and checked on us the entire night. The ambiance is nice, but when I walked in the pictures on the walls threw me off as it doesn’t suggest you are about to have Asian food. But the pictures of African Americans was nice. Warning: The tables are really close together. Lastly — bathrooms need to be upgraded.

Verlaine is a dimly lit cocktail lounge that is named after Paul Verlaine, a 19th Century French Poet known for his symbolist poetry. You can find the best Hanoi Lychee Martinis in NYC at Verlaine. The drink is juicy, fragrant & very tasty, which is perfect to have after a long day or when you just want to sit back & unwind from life for a bit. Verlaine is not only known for their awesome martinis, they also have great Asian Tapas like the Five Spice Calamari with Vietnamese honey dipping sauce. The chef incorporates Asian flavors in the batter, making the calamari taste extra delicious. This spot has great weekday happy hour starting at 5pm & ending at 10pm & the drinks start at $ 6.

This place has the best food(fried dumplings, Verlaine pancakes and Lo mein)! And the best lychee martini’s in the tristate area. *****vegetarian alert***** Now, for my Sinngas pizza lovers who explore worth while places… You HAVE to try the Verlaine pancakes! They are healthier than singas but ironically taste exactly like singas! The dumplings are to die for! So so delicious and a must try! And the lo mein was a savory and healthy. Environment is elegant, comfortable and simply beautiful. Although this is my first review and check in on Unilocal,I have been here many times and would recommend it as not only a NYC must visit but also as my bookmarked gem. cheers and enjoy loves:)
