I love this place I come from the Upper West Side to get to it! It’s an old school, polite service, low pressure, well-stocked stationery store. The prices are competitive, the selection is excellent and the quality is tops. Stephen is super helpful and friendly, I’ve only met nice sales people here but he’s a standout. I have a notebook that requires refills that I could get at several specialty shops around the City but I stick with Venture because of the helpful, friendly service and great selection of other tempting stuff for those of us who are paper-obsessed!

SUCH bad service. Came in during holiday season to buy a fountain pen. They didn’t have samples available, had subpar selections and then didn’t even give me a new pen(gave me one on display with the price tag on it without a box). I was going to purchase the pen but they didn’t have the ink color(black) that I wanted. Do not come here!

I’ve been going to NYC for 20 years. Discovered Venture on Madison early on. Always loved it. Full of unique art supplies, pens, cards, luggage, backpacks and so on. Rent went up; they moved to Lexington. Visited the other day; they lost the plot. Just another stationery store now. Without the old magic.

Don’t go here for anything relating to printing(invitations, name cards, etc). The woman who does that work is awful to work with: rude, overly direct and mean. Go here only if like to be treated poorly or if like us you had a very last minute project. And even then, go somewhere else! You don’t need the aggravation. Trust me.

I first started going to «Venture» in 2002. Wow! What a great place that carries everything imaginable and they never seem to run out of stock either! The cards and gift wraps are fabulous and that department is run by a lovely lady named«Suzanne». The entire staff are very nice and especially helpful. and I wish them much success in their new location. Gayle(NYC)

They have a terrific selection of cards and we bought a lot yesterday. They also have many beautiful items(such as gorgeous [expensive] jewelry boxes which I stared at longingly) and a great selection of office supplies & other appealing items. The staff was very pleasant.

Though it’s nice to have a stationary store on the UES, it would be better if they knew what they had in stock. I’ve now called ahead twice to make sure the product I was looking for was in stock, both times I was lied to and told the items were in stock. On my last visit I confronted an employee about this and he shrugged and walked away. There are other stationary stores in this city and it’s worth your time to look elsewhere for reliable customer service.

Ok — maybe because I thought I saw the same employee working at this store, but I feel like Venture and Blacker Kooby are run by the same people… In any case, positive experiences in both stores. Venture has a large selection of vera bradley, longchamp and herve chapelier bags. Good for browsing I suppose… I appreciate their selection of notebooks and folders. Miquelrius is a growing fan favorite. The guy at the store says they’ve been selling a lot of them. Probably because of their less ridiculous price point relative to Clairefontaine and Rhodia pads. $ 9 will get you a thick notebook! Why do I have this weakness for stationary?

They have a decent selection of Vera Bradley bags and products which are impossible to find in any retailer. They do have brand name designers like French Longchamps and others. The service is attentive as patrons have to find a staff member requesting for assistance. I had to locate a staff member to find a Vera Bradley bag in Microfiber black as the one on display is espresso brown. The staff is not knowledgable, thus four stars, on the products or brand name designers they carry in their store. The employee assumed the espresso brown tote bag on display is the same color as black who he must be color blind. This is a large retail stationery store and very pricey. I like their Vera Bradley selection and other designer brand names and choose to purchase my stationery elsewhere.

I can’t believe I’m only the second person to review Venture in the UES! They do have decent selection of stationary goods, large selection of writing instruments and bags. They also carry lots of Longchamps, Herve Chapelier and other high quality bags… But, for the size of the store(and location), I feel like they lack some«oomph». I’ve been in there half a dozen times but I’ve only purchased a few items. Maybe it’s the high prices or hit-and-miss service but I don’t always feel like getting my moneys’ worth…

This is a nice, large stationery store with a good assortment of office supplies, folders, presentation books, journals, fancy pens, etc. They clearly cater to custom announcements, though I’ve never browsed in that part of the store.
