I heard about this place when I was starting my vegetarian journey around age 18. I took a few trains from the Jersey Shore to Harlem. It was worthy the trip. Very delicious vegetarian carribean dishes. I tried the vegetarian curry chicken and I was highly satisified. Wish I lived closer to NY so I can make weekly trips here lol. I will be taking another trip very soon to indulge in this healthy goodness

This place really hit the spot. I was feeling cold and sick, and they served me up a steaming plate full of nourishing vegan foods, a combo of all the best-looking options I saw — and there were a lot! The soy pepper steak, okra, potato curry, mushrooms, green peppers, and carrot dishes — deelicious.

Came here on April 2nd(which was my third time up in New York) and this place definitely had a lot of beautiful energy going on. As it seems to be the case with much of East Harlem, Uptown Veg & Juice is a nice hole-in-the-wall that’s family owned(Black-owned too!!) and the owner is this cool Jamaican brotha with a few of his family members. If he doesn’t have all of ingredients needed to get the juice that you picked out on the menu, trust me he’ll whip up something special for you. It’s always good to improvise :) The juices I originally wanted to get were Varicose Veins and Fatigue but some of the key ingredients were unavailable. So I settled for the Love Your Body(Skin Moisture option) instead and it was quite delicious plus it made my skin even more smooth with excellent clarity! As for food, I ordered the chickpeas, vegan mac & cheese, rice & beans, and this wheat cornbread ball whose name escapes me. I liked much of my order, the mac & cheese could’ve been better but it was most definitely better than most vegan mac & cheese, and that’s coming from an omnivore! Lol The food and the décor of the restaurant had a nice Jamaican/West Indian vibe to it, not to mention it seemed like almost everybody who came inside knew each other as well as the restaurant’s owners. I really loved that sense of community, camaraderie, and Black Love that I experienced at Uptown Veg & Juice as well as the East Harlem/Harlem area in general. This is a place I would definitely return to next time I’m up in NYC, there’s quite a few more food I would love to try out.

I was taken here on a date/bet because I didn’t not believe that vegan food could taste good. I WASMISTAKEN. By far the best vegan soul food i have tried. My favorite is the macaroni and cheese with the BBQ«chicken» wings. Even living in puerto rico now, I still crave their food and try to get it whenever I am in New York.

Best. Vegan. Soul food. Ever. Go there now. And– the ACTUAL address is: 52E125th Street (between Madison and Park) My faves: chicken leg, curry stew, mock beef stuff, and random Chinese dishes. Oh, and they have killer banana bread. This place keeps moving, but I will always find them!!!(They can run but they can’t hide from me!)

This used to be my spot before I became gluten free. I don’t expect every restaurant to have gluten free options, but it would be great if they labeled the ingredients. It’s event challenging to know what has soy or seitan as an ingredients. With GF options aside, this is a great takeout spot. In the summer you can head over to the park and chow down on your meal. The buffet style can make root veggies a lot more pricey than they should be.

Love the ital food here! So many choices, so little time. Went out here on a whim one Saturday afternoon and loved it. Maybe because I was so happy to see that all of their desserts were in fact vegan. We ordered a large plate so we can capitalize on all the vegan noms, including samples of mock meats and veggie sides. I particularly enjoyed the pepper steak, soy chik’n with onions & peppers, and sauteed eggplant. I wasn’t too crazy about the sweet n sour chick’n. But I found that most of the food was spot on. Even the oreo cake we had was scrumptious! Seeing how close this is to the apt, I won’t hesitate to frequent this little gem in Harlem. Uptown Veg, you’ve made a new fan out of me :)

Ital is Vital! First off, if you’re unfamiliar with Ital food(no, not the kind from Italy) it’s a Jamaican originate ethical and health diet system that’s popular among many Caribbean people that uses no animal products in their food(save for honey, from my understanding.) Uptown Veg and Juice Bar(which has moved across the ave from their old location) spruced up the dining area and menu and moved into a larger spot. Which means more food. Which means more awesomesauce*. I recommend the pepper steak(awesomesauce), curried chickpea(more awesomesauce), collard greens(yes, even more awesomesauce) and mac n cheese along with their mushroom patty. Grab one of their sinfully-sweet cakes on the side too, it will not be something you regret. It’s easy to get carried away when ordering, so be aware it’s served by the pound and don’t let your mouth overload your wallet. Although if I was going to go bankrupt, this would be one of the ways I would prefer to go. Everything is great, the service is usually friendly but can be a miss occasionally. Oh, and I wouldn’t be a very good friend if I didn’t tip you off on the sheer level of awesomesauce that is their cornbread. You are welcome. * Note: Not an actual sauce they serve, although everything here thus far has been total awesomesace nonetheless.

This is one of my favorite spots in Harlem, and it’s a must-visit if you’re a veg*n in the area. They have a bunch of hearty and delectable dishes that rotate from day to day, so come early and often to try out all of their great fare. I’m especially fond of their veggie drumsticks, stir fry, and mac and cheez. This place is conveniently located near the Harlem-125th station, so I find myself often hopping off the Metro North early to stop at this Harlem favorite.

My office moved across the street from this place a few weeks ago. One day after work, I decided to try out one of their juices and been hooked since. Can back to next day for lunch, love their buffet style service, I get a little bit of everything. The food is consistently good and I’ve yet to eat something I did not like. Highly recommend the«Curry chicken» or «stir-fry.

Let me start of by saying that I’m not a vegetarian by any means. I put bacon on veggie burgers. I am a person who likes delicious and nutritious food. And that’s where Uptown Veg and Juice Bar comes in. Since I’ve lived in Harlem, they have moved twice. Still on 125th street, only a little further east now and on the same side of the block. The quality and consistency of the food has remained the same each time they’ve moved. I’ll follow them to where ever they go! The steak patties are sooo good! So is the bread pudding and banana pudding, but get there early as they run out. That’s how good they are. I sometimes call to see if they have some in if that’s all I’m going for. Plus they’re vegan, so I feel ok about eating a few servings lol. Now, on to the main dishes. I usually get the stir fry, the yams, the collard greens, and the curry chickpeas. The string beans and the rice and pea are good too. The veggie chili is perfect for those cold winter days. So many choices that you can’t go wrong! Now, after you get your appetizer and main dish and of course dessert(which I eat first), you need a tasty beverage. Now you can always go with the pre-made peanut punch, the sorrel, or the ginger drink, but you should get yourself a fresh juice made. If you have your jockey license, go for the Ital Jockey, my personal fav. The carrot moss is also very good. You can choose one of their other juice suggestions or have them make one special for you as a custom blend. If you have the time in the morning to stop by, they have a good breakfast and get yourself a green juice to kickstart your day!

What extraordinary vegan Caribbean food! I live in Brooklyn, but would travel again any time for this food. The vegan curry chicken and chick pea roti was so nicely spiced and flavorful. Years ago I ate delicious rotis in Granada, and this was at least as good. Also, the staff were welcoming and warm. Thanks for a great meal and atmosphere!

I’ve been working in the area for about three months now, and when I don’t bring my lunch, I usually find myself coming here. Most of the time I bring my reused white plastic take-out container, and fill it up from the steam table, which seems to be vegan interpretations of West Indian classics: peas and rice, lo mein, curry chicken, fish stew, steamed vegetables. All the renditions I’ve had are good — hearty and well-seasoned. I’ve ordered juice a few times, and that’s been fun. There’s a menu of different options, or the man running the machine seems fine just winging it following the customer’s special request. One of my favorite thing on the menu is the massaged kale salad with this delicious tart red-onion relish on top. It’s not always there.

They have a really delicious selection of vegan food with Caribbean flavor. Man, if I can learn to make my food taste like that, I can definitely live this vegan life. Try the mac & cheese and the pepper steak. Sooo good!

As great as ever… I have been coming since the very first location near Lenox Ave. at the new location, the items are behind a counter – I think this is healthiest. A great selection of vegan meats(like«beef» stew, curried«chicken» drumsticks. Very unique recipes. Sorrel punch. Also a full juice bar. Order at the counter. Seating for about 20.

Uptown Veg has moved a block to this new location. The buffet is now served by the employees rather than self serve. I pretty sure all of the food is vegan, definitely all vegetarian. They have the same delicious juices and food as the former location. The vegan imitation meats are really good. It’s amazing how close the texture is to real meat.
