I love a good sandwich, and these are good sandwiches! Not being from NY, I looked up lunch on Unilocal nearby and the place has lots of great reviews and now here is one more! Even though it was busy, they worked through the line quickly. We grabbed our lunch to go and sat outside on a beautiful NY summer day. It’s was so good, one of those moments you just eat and forget to think or talk and when you’re done you just say damn that was good.

Visiting NY for work and stumbled upon this amazing sandwich spot. The space is incredibly small, but then again it’s NY. I ordered the special and they were pretty quick for how busy they were. The place smells delicious and my sandwich was kind of life altering. Perfectly baked ciabatta with seasoned meat that is second to none. Next time I’m in town I’ll be back!

Cool spot in a touristy area. Surprised noone else was here– maybe some cooler signage feeling less commercial may help. Got the Nettle Neck, which I was super excited for because I’ve had lamb neck before and surprisingly loved it, BUT I’d say this was a notch below it. Still 4 stars for creativity and I will be back if in the area to try one of everything else!

Want to give it five stars but couldn’t due to the hard bread, small portion and price. Had the lamb neck sandwich which had very little meat(one small bone which I don’t mind much) hard bread, too much oil and I left hungry. If the meat quantity was larger and had softer bread, even for the price is give it 5 starts. As of now, I wouldn’t go for lunch. Maybe as a craving killer.

Ok the atmosphere and the look of the spot is great. A good place to meet a friend for lunch. Extra large windows in the front for people watching. The service was friendly and quick no complaints there. However the main event I wasn’t pleased with at all. I was very disappointed with the sandwich. Maybe if the price was cheaper this place would be jammed pack but for the price and flavors… nahhh. I ordered the Raspberry lemonade + «the Butt» which was pork shoulder, broccoli rob(which I should have known I would not like) some type of delicious jelly/jam on ciabatta bread. I was not impressed, full or satisfied… smh and I had such high hopes. Honestly the flavors and portion size do not justify that $ 15 meal… yes small sandwich and small drink $ 15. I feel if this place would be great in a better neighbor or a truck would be awesome, because they could lower the prices, maybe.

This place does not cater to anyone with special dietary restrictions, so I’m unsure why they’re tagged gluten-free. They don’t do any substitutions, only«removals», and they also don’t discount the meal price for doing so. I waited in line for 10 minutes, and tried substituting fried onions for a gluten-free menu item. I was told I couldn’t replace an item, only remove it, and that the cost would be the exact same. The«chef would not allow» substitutions, because he decided the meal pairings as is were the way it needed to be served. I then asked to speak to the manager, and essentially said I can’t dine with you guys anymore if I can’t substitute gluten free items. The counter person then told me he was the manager and I was turned away! Just Awful. This is NYC, guys. Everyone’s gluten-free. If the chefs over at Tao, and some of the finest dining establishments in NYC aren’t so insulted by dietary restrictions, certainly the chef at your SANDWICH shop can get over it. Or at least discount the cost so I’m not paying for food I can’t eat!

My girlfriend is a huge sandwich(bread lover). Unfortunately for her, she works in the Financial District area, where food options are limited; we all know midtown is where all the good food is at! Therefore, my foodie girlfriend lives vicariously through me with the must try lunch spots list that she compiled for me. Untamed Sandwiches is a bit of a walk from my office, so I was a little hesitant to walk 11 blocks for a sandwich as I don’t love bread as much as my girlfriend. However, with an urge to walk and with my girlfriend’s list not failing me so far, Friday was the perfect day to venture out here. My girlfriend informed me that the Hot Goldie(brisket, red onion, sweet and sour cabbage, and black pepper aioli) is the sandwich to order here. Sadly, when I got to the counter, the cashier stated that they no longer serve the Hot Goldie and suggested the Frere Jacques(pork wine braised grassfed beef brisket, caramelized onions, gruyère cheese, whole grain mustard, and crispy tobacco onions) instead. Sandwiches are not cheap here! At $ 14, pre tax, the Frere Jacques came out to be close to $ 16 for just the sandwich alone. I was a little worried that the sandwich might not taste as great sitting in the bag as I walked back to the office, but it held up just fine. The brisket was so tender — I actually prefer it over Mighty Quinn’s brisket. If you’re in the area/work in the area, you have to try Untamed Sandwiches. Not only are the names of the sandwiches unique, they’re also open for breakfast! Pricy, but worth the spurge. The Butt will be the next sandwich I’ll try!

Very little sustenance for vegetarians — for $ 13, got the Carla Bruni plate… a small scoop of delicious braised ratatouille veggies, and some iceberg salad, plus a tiny piece of ciabatta on the side. It was delicious but leaves you starving. I ate three bags of popcorn after. People think the meat sandwiches are overpriced? Imagine taking away the meat for $ 11 plus tax.

We were introduced to untamed sandwiches by a collegue during a late night working session and thoroughly enjoyed the sandwiches on a night that we were starving. Tonight– we stopped in to pick up some dinner on less hungry stomachs and still enjoyed every bite. Great spot to order or grab a well made, quick bite with interesting flavors.

As of yesterday, I have officially been here 10 times,(and have 10 punches on my loyalty card ensuring a free sandwich on my next visit, wahoo!) thus is it only apropos that I now leave a review. Obviously, I like the place. It’s a great spot for fresh, fast, gourmet sandwiches. I’ve sampled all of the sandwiches on the menu — they’ve also recently introduced market bowls which are the sandwich version in a bowl with a side, I have yet to try those because the bread they use for the sandwiches are just so damn good. Honestly, perfect amount of crunch and crisp there. I believe my favorite is the Sheemakers Bounty, which is charred broccoli, fried almond butter, pickled jelly, cress and that delicious, delicious bread. For meat lovers, I’d recommend the Butt(beef) and General Zapata(chicken). The Butt is perfectly tender, meat and the Zapatas has a bit of a Mexican flavor with the chicken tinga and queso. Either way, I haven’t had a sandwich here that I didn’t like. Two thumbs up for Untamed.

I first remember seeing the window front for Untamed Sandwiches on my way to Penn Station. I later looked up their website, and was impressed by how sincere the whole crew are about sustainability: Their Our Story section even encourages you to ask their employees about any of the ingredients. After much internal debate about whether to get the Zapata plate or the Sheemakers Bounty, I went with the Zapata(after a night of chicken nuggets and the new Ben and Jerry’s frozen yogurt, I wanted nothing more than braised chicken and veggies). I can’t remember eating such fluffy chicken tinga before(and this is coming from midtown)! The braising technique is pretty noticeable, if only because the chicken broken into shreds with a prod of the fork. My only nit is that the onions looked slightly grey and discolored, like they had been soaking in the pickling juice for too long. The prices are a little off-putting($ 28 for two meat and veggie plates), so I’m not swearing off all leftover-lunches forever, but … that chicken was amazing. As was the Frere Jacques’ port wine braised beef brisket. And shout-out to the jalapeño peanut butter cookie. It looked a little intimidating, all covered in red chili flakes, but I could have eaten a whole one without a problem. NEXTTIME: Sheemakers Bounty, the Butt

I could live at this place. I could literally curl up in the corner and stay there for the rest of my life and be content. I love this place so much. Food is out of this world perfect. I’ll pick one of 2 days out of the week that are my «special days» that I go here for lunch with my friends because I try to save my money and not buy lunch every day. But, if I could have Untamed Sandwiches every day for every meal of the day for the rest of my life, I would. I get all the veggie stuff usually, and the veggie egg sandwich, but I want to try other things on the menu and branch out a little. Everything is seriously made with love and perfect every time. They carry alcohol which is also great and always goes well with lunch. I love the atmosphere and coziness so much that sometimes it’s hard for me to leave and go back to work. I’m so happy I found this place because it’s seriously a little hidden gem. See you tomorrow, Untamed Sandwiches!

I thought it was finally time to give this place a try after seeing my friends go back again and again… and wow, this place is good. It’s a small but clean space with one large high top community table in the center and another high top table against the window facing outside. I went at noon during a weekday and was relieved to see no line. I ordered The Butt sandwich, which was ready to go in 5 minutes. It was one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in awhile. Juicy. Fresh. Bursting with flavor. Just a really good sandwich. I’m already look forward to going back and trying something else.

My workmates and I decided to venture out and try a new sandwich spot. I was pretty excited to try this place based on the delicious sandwich options and reviews from my fellow Unilocalers. The place is small and cute. It smelled really, really strong of something burnt. In fact I still smell it on my clothing after being back at work. Service was great. The guys working there were super nice. I decided to order the«The Butt» which was cider braised pork butt, broccoli rabe, pepper jelly, dijon mustard, sharp cheddar. Even though I did enjoy my sandwich, I was expecting it to taste better. Something was missing. I really didn’t taste the dijon mustard much. I addition to the sandwich, I ordered the side of beets with cumin yogurt sauce. The beets were very hard and the cumin yogurt sauce literally tasted like cumin mixed with yogurt — no flavor at all. The thing I liked most was the side of jalapeño grits that a co-worker of mine ordered. Definitely recommend ordering that. Overall not too shabby — I wouldn’t rush back, but I would still recommend.

Holy hell, this place is good. I had the Goldie and while it was a little expensive($ 14 I think), it was superb. Perfectly cooked short rib with some sort of kraut and this amazing white sauce… I’ll be back.

What a gem. So glad Unilocal led me to this place, I could have walked right past it. When ordering, I was torn between the Butt and the Hot Goldie. I asked the girl at the counter for her opinion and she immediately informed me that the Hot Goldie was braised in beer and therefore not gluten free! I was so glad she mentioned it and ordered The Butt. She then successfully upsold me on some delicious GF salted chocolate cookie thing which just made the whole meal complete. A paleo/primal/perfect health dieter’s dream! The menu naturally accommodates those diets, and if you find something close, they’ll work with you to make it perfect. I had the option of going bread-free, or having the GF bread, so I splurged on the bread to help sop up the bright flavors of the sandwich(cider braised pork butt, broccoli rabe, pepper jelly, dijon mustard, sharp cheddar… sounds busy, but it was PERFECT). It was balanced, rich, and delicious. I texted about 5 friends while I was sitting there, demanding they try the place next chance they got. I’m okay with the prices. It’s midtown Manhattan, guys! For a fresh sandwich filled with preservative free ingredients and delicious Butt… I’ll happily pay $ 11. Will return for sure on my next reluctant visit to midtown.

These sandwiches are pretty amazing, but the prices make my wallet cry. I got a ‘plate’ of The Butt once and was bored by it(somehow the same ingredients really sing when on their tasty bread), but at least it was enough meat and grits for 2 portions, so the financial hit wasn’t as bad. The Butt and the Hot Goldie are my favorites, but the Nettleneck was also very good(though $ 14 pre-tax). I didn’t love the General Zapata as much, but lovers of all things chicken and Mexican might. I keep meaning to try the veggie selections, but it’s hard knowing that those delicious meat options are there. Their chip selection could be a little bigger, but I do love that they had Mama Zuma’s. They have free water, fancy sodas, and good cold-brew iced coffee. I’m slowly working my way through a buy 10, get 1 free card.

Taste-wise they deserve a 4.5 but I knocked .5 off due to the price. The sandwich here is pretty bombdiggity — not your causal cold cut sandwich. They pack a their housemade braised meats inside a ciabatta that is also crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I tried a new sandwich, i think it’s called the Canarian. It has pork belly in it and so gluttonous and bad for a Monday lunch but hey, I got it anyways. I am usually a small eater so I was surprised myself that I finished this(the last time was when I had picnic basket). I guess a good competitor for untamed is definitely picnic basket(1 block away). If you are looking for a heavy, satisfying, meatful sandwich, and also don’t mind spending $~15 per sandwich, come to untamed.

This place is great. The bread is great, the portions are plentiful, and the service is friendly. I lean this a little more towards 4 stars though because this place tends to be a little pricy and it can be a bit slow there sometimes, even when it’s not prime lunch hours. In addition, while there is certainly a lot of meat packed into the sandwiches, it feels like it could be more – maybe I’m used to a certain style of deli that is popular on Long Island, but for the price, it still felt a little bit lacking. So far, I’ve gotten the Vessel Dojo(July special?), Hot Goldie, and I’ve tried the Butt. The Hot Goldie was really amazing – TONS of short rib, along with cabbage and other goodies: extremely satisfying. The Vessel Dojo was cool… if I remember correctly, it had(ahi?) tuna with kimchi(could be way off but that’s what my instinct tells me), and it got me to come back. The Butt seemed pretty good(my girlfriend got it), but I don’t think I’d take it over the Hot Goldie. While pricey, I can’t deny that this is one of the better sandwich places I’ve been to in recent memory. I’d say if you’re craving a great sandwich, this place is worth the price. Otherwise, save it for a treat later down the road.

I enjoyed my sandwich at Untamed, but I didn’t enjoy it $ 11 worth! I’ve been meaning to get to this place for a while and it’s so convenient near to Bryant Park. I ordered The Butt, which was juicy(maybe a bit too juicy, quite messy) and it had good flavor, although I thought the mustard stood out quite a bit. I LOVED the bread! All round it was a nice sandwich. However I’m not sure I would return due to the prices. I’m glad I’ve tried it. The cookies actually looked pretty amazing, so I might return for the cookies! The staff were really nice and service was quick. I ate in and sat in the window and basked in the sunshine. They have a water cooler as well which helped keep the cost down as I didn’t need to purchase a drink.
