Like the other reviews state, it is really hard to find the entrance to this place. I was looking for 619 Lexington Ave and saw it jump from 601 Lexington to 641 Lexington. We turned onto 54th St and finally saw the entrance. It’s a small theater compared to the theaters I’ve been to in the Theater district, and I think it’s located in the basement of the church. Stadium type seating so you don’t need to worry(much) about your view being obstructed by those in front of you. It’s a small theater, so don’t expect anything grandiose. I saw the Road to Qatar here, a musical about creating a musical in Qatar. It’s a cozy environment and voices carry well without need for amplification.

Hard to find the entrance at first(it’s around the corner at the church entrance) but after the first time going there you can walk in like an old pro;) Get there a little early though in case you have trouble locating it correctly. The actual space is neat, very intimate and like a black box theatre setting. The lobby is nice with ads and posters of all previous shows, current shows, and a modest concession stand. Have attended free readings twice, always enjoyable although sometimes the material has been dry, but it won’t stop me from checking out future performances. A great asset to the theatre community and I’m grateful its programs exist!

Hidden inside the church, the York theatre is hard to locate. Once you get to the main entrance of the church on Lexington, be sure to abide by the sign that reads«enter the theatre by the side entrance — on 52nd st». Once in, head down 2 floors and you’re there! It’s a hustle and bustle of activities, from the concession and merchandise stand to the small but cosy reception area. The theatre itself it small but extremely cosy, 2 sections separated by a center isle. I was here to watch Yank! A WWII Love Story and though I’m not a musical person, I absolutely enjoyed it. Can’t believe this is still an undiscovered gem on Unilocal!Happy to be the first to put this on the map.
