The Rink at Rockefeller Center

Son ouverture a lieu à la mi octobre pour né se clore qu’en mars. Durant cette période, on peut s’y rendre tout les jours et entre 8h30 et minuit. De dimension similaire à celles servant pour le hockey sur glacé, elle peut accueillir jusqu’à 150 personnes à la fois.
Elle fait l’objet d’une grande convoitise, son accès est par conséquent régulé par des sessions de 90 minutes. Le ticket d’entrée coûte 27 $ (15 $ pour les moins de 15 ans et les séniors) tandis que la location de patins est à 12 $. Bön à savoir, depuis 2015 il est possible pour certains soirs de réserver sa venue si on projette de passer entre 10h30 et la fermeture.

An absolutely essential place to see at least once in New York during Christmas and new Year holidays, the magic ice rink of Rockfeller Center.

Splurging on the VIP Skate experience, we were able to bypass the long lines, and enjoy hot cocoa, espresso, cookies, and water in a warming hut.
Ninety minutes of fun in the koolest place to skate in New York was only dampened by the unusually warm weather causing the ice to melt. If were unlucky enough to fall, your clothes literally would be soaked through and dripping. The staff in the warming hut were very friendly. Backpacks and purses were also stored for you.
Once on the ice, everyone was respectful and advised to move in the same direction. The on-​ice staff were quick to assist anyone who fell.
Definitely bring your camera. There were lots of photo ops. I would definitely do this again.

This was the biggest highlight of my recent trip to New York! Yes, it’s a little cheesy. Yes, it’s expensive. But it’s not something you get to do every day! And coming from Florida, this was a rare treat for me, since skating rinks aren’t plentiful where I live.
My boyfriend took me here last weekend for the VIP skating experience. I have no clue how long we would have waited, but I hear the line was insanely long. If it’s the holiday season and you can afford it, just go ahead and splurge on the VIP experience… especially if your time in the city is limited. I believe it was $ 125 per person, which included a 90-​minute skating session, skate rental and access to the VIP tent, where you can enjoy cookies, hot cocoa, candy, coffee and a little break if needed.
The ice has a few imperfections around the edges, but that’s to be expected at a rink like this. It’s not a performance rink. Be prepared to dodge a lot of small children, first-​time skaters, amateur photographers and marriage proposals. The night we went, there were THREE proposals on the ice within the 90-​minute skate session! And luckily, the ladies said yes. It’s a picture-​perfect place, so I can only imagine the great proposal photos captured that evening.
Now, if you’re looking for a cheap skating experience, you probably want to consider the rinks at Central Park or Bryant Park instead. But if you want a magical holiday experience, this is an ideal destination.

As a tourist you can’t bypass skating at the rink. It’s an icon. So we did just that. $ 37 for entrance and another $ 12 for skate rentals for over an hour of skate time. The time is restricted since there are so many people waiting in line. Even with the time limit, they pack the skaters in like sardines. It was so crowded with barely enough room to skate without skating into or getting hit by someone. Just imagine amateur skaters of all ages, tight space, and the poor ice condition. Not good. Additionally, the rental skates were in bad condition making it even tougher to skate.
Still I recommend taking the plunge. You are in NY and at the Rockerfeller Center!

The iconic rink is a great place to skate. It gets crowded espcially during the Christmas season. Best to go after the holidays if you can. The skating here is done in sessions. Usually about 2 hours each, although the early one on Saturdays use to be longer. (They may be shorter during the holiday season.) Skate rentals available. Not cheap. rates are more expensive during holiday season. Great view of 30 Rock.

At a winter night we came all they way and there was way too much people around the rink we couldn’t get down, we gave up, we were going back home it’s only been 29 minutes but we had beautiful views even if we were disappointed

As good as NYC gets whenever you are there. It only gets better and better every time you go there. As a visitor from Washington state going to NYC for the first time. This is a definite place to go. There always is an average amount of people there and it’s never too crowded. Since I have been there for a week, my hotel was just right across the street from it, and it definitely is one word: BADASS!!!

I’ve lived in Northern NJ for the better part of my 29 years and have never ever had the opportunity to go ice-​skating at Rockefeller Center, although it’s been something I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do.
I finally had the opportunity to go when a suitor asked me, and of course I jumped at the offer!
I would highly recommend this tourist destination whether you’re a resident of the area or just visiting. It’s a bit intimidating when you step on the ice for the first time, with everyone watching up above (like a fishbowl), but you’ll have so much fun that you honestly forget there is an audience.
TIPS:
–Bring gloves on the ice! It’s quite cold and I forgot mine. Kind of awkward to skate with your hands in your pockets.
–Keep the big purses at home or in your vehicle. I tried to skate with my tote bag (my first time ever ice skating), and it made me very uncoordinated. My date ended up having to put it with our shoes. but you just never know how safe your purse will be because it won’t be locked, it is out in the open. Mine was okay though!
–Most importantly have fun! People of all ages are smiling, laughing, falling. it’s just a good time! I’ll be back next year!

It was busy and expensive, both conditions you should expect from anything touristy in the Big Apple, but this location was fun & memorable. It’s nice to see something so iconic in person, so I’m glad I had time to hang out around 30 Rock and take it all in. Especially interesting to see the Christmas tree, since it looks much smaller in person. I thought it’d be HUGE.

— franjas fijas de 90 minutos para patinar (p.ej. si llegas a las 12.40 h tienes que esperar hasta entrar a la próxima «sesión» de las 14 h)
…a mí me agobia en vez de gustarme.
Así que ya dos veces he pasado de lo que dice todo el mundo: «Cuando estés en Nueva York, TIENES QUE patinar allí, sí o sí.»
Pues no, no tienes que hacerlo.
También puedes pasar de entrar y limitarte a ver el panorama y a la gente caerse, admirar el árbol,… y si quieres patinar, puedes ir a Bryant Park (la única pista gratis, solamente pagas el alquiler de patines).

No place like Rockefeller Center. A bit crowded with tourists, but it a must do if you’re in New York– even if it’s just once!

We’ll it’s off the bucket list. It’s pricy and the ice was not in good condition but I did get to skate at Rockefeller center. Been there, done that. Next

This is definitely one of the must stop places if you come visit NYC especially during the holiday season.
Come during the night to see the Christmas tree lights. They have an ice skating rink in front of rockerfeller center. It’s very small therefore gets crowded quick. We didn’t go skating but I would like to try it next time.

The rink had just opened for the season right before my trip in early November, so I knew I had to visit. From the inside of Rockefeller Center, it was hard to find the exit out to the rink. (And I’m not bad with directions. It was my first trip to NYC and I did it solo, and found my way around the city easily)
Once outside, I loved it. The rink was actually not open that day, I think because it was Election Day and NBC was getting ready for that evening. It was nice to see all the American flags around the rink, and the entire area was so clean and well manicured.
There is a Starbucks just inside Rockefeller Center, if you want a warm drink to sip while by the ice.

Great fun for the family. Best to go during the week to avoid the lines, and it was fairly inexpensive with my Bank of America discount :-).
If you have teenagers they willhours in the surrounding shops at Bryant Park.

Yayy this place is so cool!
1) It’s not crowded. Okay there is one caveat — you have to pay $ 40 to get in — so yeah okay, that’s probably why it’s not crowded ;)
2) It’s pretty — there’s a huge lighted statue in the center just outside the rink. It’s open till midnight, so when it gets later they turn on the lights (it’s an outside rink). And people even observe you from the second floor above, because it’s so pretty/​you skate so well.
3) There’re cool people — I met the cutest French guy from Lille who was leaving the next day and barely spoke English but it was still so much fun skating around with him!!! =)

If you’re in NYC in the winter this is a fun and memorable way to spend a few hours. We splurged for the VIP package which bipasses the line and gives you access to a heated lounge, coffee, cocoa, and cookies. There was no line for the morning skate so we probably could have done without, but sometimes the little luxuries are worth it!
The rink is small and gets crowded quickly, and they only Zamboni the ice in between sessions so prepare for a rough and bumpy go in your second hour! Even so, I would not miss this opportunity! The staff is friendly and will help you up in the event of a fall and they were all willing to take keepsake photos as well!
If I could go again it would be at night when the famous tree was lit! November was perfect, but not as picturesque as it could have been!

Hands down the BEST rink in town — just don’t go between Thanksgiving and the second week in January…
We absolutely love skating at Rockefeller! The ice is very well maintained and the location is wonderful — you really feel like a superstar on the ice. The rink guards are also very helpful and friendly. I am not sure why so many people in other reviews are complaining about the expense — if you have your own skates, it costs almost exactly the same as it does if you rent skates at the dreadful Bryant Park ‘free’ rink (which is terribly maintained, the staff is apathetic at best, and was overall a terrible experience my family will not be repeating). You definitely get what you pay for!
I would definitely take a pass on the «Fast Pass» or whatever it is called during the holiday season — getting on the ice faster for a LOT of $ is not going to make the ice any less crowded than it is if you wait a few hours in the regular line. In fact, don’t go from the third week of November until the end of January if you can help it. Too crowded and not worth the hassle or $.
My tip is to go the first two and last two weeks that the rink is open, which is usually the end of October/​beginning of November and the middle/​end of February. The middle of the week afternoon sessions are usually extremely quiet and you have plenty of room for taking pictures, enjoying the experience, and showing off if you are a seasoned skater!

I’m not the greatest on skates but its just one of those things you have to do in the winter in NYC or at least go and see.
It gets crowed and people are falling down all around you. Once in a while you’ll get a person doing spins in the middle and they always make everyone else look like they just learned how to walk.
Check it out even if you don’t want to skate… just watch the others, they are having fun.

The ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center is a really fun and unique NYC experience that I highly recommend. Sure it’s small and crowded but once you get skating you’ll be in heaven. Go for the VIP experience to make the whole process smoother and less waiting time.

After 28 years of living in NYC, I skated in Rockefeller Center. I might just tackle a driving license next… just kidding.
We skated on a random Wed evening, so there were minimal people on the ice. Though, there was a really high percentage of non-​skaters… i’ve never seen so many people fall before.
The VIP line is much more expensive (i think almost double the standard fare + rental) but it really helped with the experience. So, if you’re going to do the skating rink once, I would highly recommend. It helps with maintaining the magic.
Otherwise, would recommend heading to BK to McCarren Park (can’t be $ 13) or Bryant Park.

Like most things in NYC, ice skating at Rockefeller Center (during the winter season) is a MUST-​DO! I don’t care if you’re a tourist or a native, there’s something really magically about it.
The rink isn’t that big and pretty crowded as you can imagine, so you’re not really busting out your triple axels, here. Although, you might get all Tonya Harding on someone if they knock you over because they’re too busy taking pictures of themselves, a-​hem!
But, it’s the spirit of Rockefeller Center, the rich history of NYC, that makes people like myself strap on some skates, shuffle around for a moment trying to find my balance, before getting into the zone.
I loved it. I had an ah-​mah – zing time. Ice skating is one of those activities, you don’t have to be good at, to enjoy it.
But, I will say… bundle up! Sh*t was cray cold. Definitely not for the faint of heart. #oneforthebooks

Sicher nicht die schönste und größte Eisbahn der Welt (z.b. Im Central Park geht das ganze wesentlich entspannter von statten) aber dennoch eine der kultigsten. Glamour kommt hier auf jeden Fall auf und schaden kann’s ja auch nicht die ein oder andere runde in dieser einzigartigen Kulisse zu drehen :)
