Came here after some HH with work buddies and came across this place. Its been on my list to try out so definitely wanted to try it out. I got the Spicy Pork Ball with Pesto and Rigatoni. The Rigatoni was very hard and chewy, I was hoping for it to be softer. The Pesto wasnt that great and Im usually a big fan of it. The Spicy Pork was actually pretty bland to me and not spicy at all. I also got Steamed Spinach, I dashed some lemon onto it and it gave it a very tangy taste, Im thinking its probably because it is steamed, so there really cant be much flavor to it, so I didnt enjoy the dish either. Overall not excited over the food here and it was very expensive for what I ordered. Definitely would not try at least this combination again, maybe there is better combinations, but not really a first choice if im hungry in this area. Lots of better choices around the area.

Been on a month long trip from the west to the east coast and as is the way we found the best place on our last night. The food was delicious, menu was fun and different. The service was really friendly and helpful too. Music was really good and at the right level to not intrude but create an ambiance. Only slight gripe was the crush of tables, but to be expected in all the better places to eat in NYC. This was definitely the best we visited.

The waiters were really nice and friendly, knew the menu really well and even gave suggestions on what they like best. I had chicken balls with pesto and the apple salad– really good! He had the classic meatballs with marinara sauce and rigatoni and he liked his a lot too. I’ll be back!

hip little spot. they always have cool 90s hiphop playing. as far as the service I’ve always found the employees to be very friendly, and helpful when it came down to picking a cocktail or choosing a meal. their meatballs are delicious, I’ve had the chicken and veggie and they both were great. I always make it a point to stop in here when I’m in the area

Omg. I had the best meal here with my bf a week back. Chicken meatballs, with gravy on the side, and my beau and i split two sides: carrots with risotto, cheese and nuts and broccoli. I left really full and like I had gotten my money’s worth. My three complaints are — I wish the nutritional information for their food was made available, all the chairs had cushions(those metal cushions get cold and it was a shock when i sat down in my shorts), and I wish our server was a little more friendly.

I’ve heard of this place but never had a chance to stop by for a bite to eat. While we were in the city last weekend, we came across this location and stop in. I love that they had outdoor seating, but I especially loved that they had a vegetarian option for«meatballs». I ordered the vegetarian«meatballs» that were made of lentils and beans in their parmesan cream sauce. The order was 4 meatballs in the sauce with a side of bread. Very good! My husband got the regular meatballs in the marinara sauce I think. He wasn’t that impressed for whatever reason. Service was great; attentive waitresses. I’d come back again but I don’t think I’d make a special trip just to eat here.

Pretty sure I was spoiled for this place by having an Italian grandma. Everyone knows meatballs aren’t vegetarian or poultry based and are made from a mix of pork, veal, and beef. And when I was growing up you got em only two ways — fried or stewed.(Mine were always fried with a side of buttered noodles in case you’re keeping score.) Anyhow… This restaurant serves a variety of different meatballs — with accompanying starchy and veggie sides and sauces. I got chicken meatballs(or as I like to call them«chick balls») with pesto and a side of rigatoni. I(like a few other reviewers I read) felt the rigatoni was a wee bit too al dente. The place wasn’t really big but they got us in pretty quick(maybe a 15 – 20 min wait after we gave them our phone number). They also have seating outside. Wish I had stayed for a couple of their desserts! They looked yummy. A-ok. Now where are my buttered noodles?

There are«Meatball Shops» all over Manhattan. They found a nice niche, and know how to play it well. The staff was very friendly. The wait was minimal, even on a weekend night. The food: Buffalo meatballs — average Naked beef meatballs w/red sauce — really good Naked beef meatballs w/pesto sauce — amazing. Pesto was very flavorful w/the perfect amount of pine nuts in the sauce(granted I am obsessed with all things pesto) If going for the first time, I would stick to the meatballs with whatever sauce you want(they make recommendations if you’re interested).

My co-worker and I went to the Meatball Shop on a Friday for lunch and I absolutely loved it. We sat at the bar and filled out our menu. You mark off what you want — the type of balls, sauce & any sides. You also have the option for meatball sliders. I got the chicken meatballs with traditional tomato sauce. It came with Parmesan cheese & crispy bread. The sauce was the best I’ve ever had. It only cost me about $ 8.00 and with four large balls it was filling. The best part was that my expense report read«1 naked balls.» Just note this if you’re traveling for business :)

Came here for lunch on a rainy and they weren’t too busy. Their style of a dine-in menu is quite cute and simple, they provided dry erase markers for you to mark down the items you’d like, so there’s bo way your server would make a mistake on your order! Their house special sauce of the day was a mushroom gravy. I had the special sweet sausage meatballs, mashed potato with house special mushroom gravy sauce and a side of prosciutto, mushroom, and parsley risotto. The mashed potato was delish, very creamy and some texture of potato chunks. Meatballs were good, moist and quite flavorful. Adding on the house special sauce to the combination made it very tasty. As for the side, the flavor was good but the risotto might’ve been a bit under cooked. The texture of the risotto was a bit tough, I’ve had softer, thoroughly cooked risotto. My friend had the classic beef meatball with spicy meat sauce over rigatoni and a side of house greens. The sauce wasnt too spicy, there is a kick to it. Meatballs were cooked nicely, moist and flavorful. The rigatoni pasta was good. House greens wasnt anything special, just a simple side salad with house vinagrette; but the salad was very fresh. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend as well coming back here to dine again!

First time at this location but I frequent the Chelsea location a lot since its closer to The Highline. Wow we were seated right away. It was my best friend’s first experience and The Meatball Shop so I suggested my favorite Meatball Smash so she ordered the Brioche Bun + Chicken + Pesto + Mozzarella and I ordered the Brioche Bun + Spicy Pork + Classic Tomato + Mozzarella where it comes with their delicious Simple Salad mmmmm. Of course we have room for dessert. My best friend got the Oatmeal Raisin Cookie + Espresso Ice Cream sandwich. I love their Mint Ice Cream a lot and asked our server why it was off the menu but lucky he was able to give me that flavor and I love it on the Snickerdoodle Cookie. Their mint ice cream has the actual mint leaves and that makes it so refreshingly yummy. The area has changed so much and I only know Arlene’s Grocery where I had one of my birthday rock shows in the past hehe.

Every time I come to the city, i make sure to make this one of my many stops but I don’t think it will be for any longer because it’s become somewhat blah. We came on a Sunday afternoon and I was surprised there wasn’t a long wait. I guess the hype of this place really has gone down. When there is a long wait, they pencil you into their iPad and it sends a text when the table is ready. During summer time, they have a few tables outside. This place is quite small as I guess it is really common here but it’s really tight. They have one long table in the middle that you sit elbow to elbow next to people you don’t know and listen to other people’s gossip. The lighting is dim if you come at night so it’s hard to see their menu with the table candles. There are markers on each table/bar so you may mark off what you want on the menu and give it to your waiter which she/he will repeat back to you to make sure they got it. No employee is in uniform and they give off that Brooklyn hipster vibe. Bartenders and waiters that I have had here are always nice and helpful. I am not a meatball lover and this place turned me into one. But lately, I feel like maybe the taste is different because they aren’t as special anymore. The Classic Beef meatball just tastes like normal seasoned beef, I would suggest getting the Spicy Pork for some flavor. You can get your meatballs as sliders, sandwich, on top of your side, or on the side of anything else you choose to get. If you get sliders, you can get a different meatball each so you can try their different kinds and sauce flavors. For dessert, they are known for this ice cream sandwiches between your choice of cookie. I have heard their jello shots are one to try. I wouldn’t suggest coming here Fri or Sat night as you will most likely wait and for Sunday, there is no brunch here but its ok, NYC Sunday is brunch everywhere else.

Five stars for great service, location, and especially the ice cream sandwich! My friends and I wanted to check out TMS because we have heard good things about it. Needless to say, we weren’t disappointed. We had no wait time because we did get lunch at an odd hour(3pm). The waiter was absolutely wonderful! He explained the menu well and was very friendly. My first impression of the menu was that it was straight forward, which is a plus! I ordered the beef meatballs with the Parmesan cream sauce and a side of polenta. The polenta was delicious and the meatballs flavorful! My friend got the spicy meat sauce and said she enjoyed that as well. Surprisingly 4 meatballs were quite filling. However, I couldn’t say no to a homemade cookie ice cream sandwich. I got the ginger cookie with vanilla ice cream, and I immediately felt like I was in heaven. The cookie is perfectly chewy and the ice cream was creamy. I’d definitely come back just for the dessert alone.

Visited this little restaurant during a business trip to NYC — every business traveler should make the trip to eat the tasty meatball heaven served up in this place! Seating is cozy, although that’s unexpected in Manhattan. It’s also a bit of a trek from midtown, but absolutely worth it. I had the meatball smash since this was my first trip and I wanted an authentic assessment of the baseline offerings of The Meatball Shop. My meal was amazing! Two hefty meatballs are cradled in a nest of sweet and spicy tomato sauce and blanketed with perfectly melted provolone cheese. The brioche bun it was served on was also toasted exactly right — a great mix of smokey flavor and fresh bread sweetness. It also came with a small mix of fresh greens and crispy apple slices. Overall awesome place to grab a bite. I will be back!

I have always loved meatball shop but they truly messed up last night. They told us it would be a half hour wait, but after an hour we told them we had been waiting a while and the host said there wasn’t anything she could do and started getting upset with my elderly grandma about the situation. The conversation got heated and she walked away in the middle of my grandmother talking about it. While we were waiting, the bartender made my grandparents get up from their seats to seat other people. Why would any decent person make some 70 yr old folks wait and stand up for an hour and a half? This was outrageous and completely disrespectful. The manager was kind enough to apologize for the inconvenience. We ended up waiting an hour and a half, and while the people we were waiting for were still sitting we went and found another amazing restaurant that sat us down immediately and it was better than any meatball shop meal I’ve had. Moral of the story, meatball shop isn’t worth the wait. I’m sure these people were just doing their jobs but they were rude, inconsiderate, and were incapable of estimating wait time. Never will I ever go again. NYC is filled with other better, underrated restaurants that have better service, and won’t make the elderly stand for an hour and a half to wait.

It seems silly now, but for years The Meatball Shop was on my «not right now» list. I wanted to defy the hype, forego the wait, and dismiss the faux-hipstery notion(Especially you, Brooklyn location: ), and I didn’t like the idea of something as simple as meatballs to be priced out for the late night fools who were willing to pay for it.(#1) Then one day, I went. Solo. Inebriated. Hungry. It was either this or some subpar taqueria /pizzeria nearby. A nice man greeted me at the front and gave me the green light to park myself at the bar. The bartender offered me a delicious cocktail that only got me in the mood for more food shenanigans, and I was livid for just about anything. So I then ordered one of their more popular items: chicken meatballs over pesto rigatoni. Hot damn. It wasn’t just good, it was stupid delicious. The pillow, soft meatballs were somewhat reminiscent of the sheep milk balls from Beauty & Essex( ). They weren’t the lumpy, coal like meatballs of IKEA fame, but rather a homemade version that screamed quality with every bite. It was dressed in a light blanket of fine parmesan shavings, while sitting atop a savory bed of pesto soaked rigatoni, accompanied with toasted bread for additional soakage and dip action. I was beyond satisfied. And for $ 10? This is life, drunk on meatballs. And just like that, everyone remembers their first. It’s been a repeat session of date nights, group eats, and solo encounters. The menu, while deceivingly simple, actually showcases the versatility of the meatball served in all forms from singular form slider to piled all over the salad. The brunch concoctions, pasta renditions, subs and risotto combos are all fantastic. Finish it all off with one of their infamous ice cream sandwiches, even if you’re lactose intolerant(#2). It’s hard not to fall in love with the concept. Hip hop beats in an intimate setting, late night options with a brunch twist. It’s understandable why they’ve gone all Shake Shack like and busted out a handful of sister locations across the city. Could Queens be next? I can already imagine an Astoria /Sunnyside location in the not-so-distant future. I’ll happily wait for that. ___________ (#1) Don’t hate the meatball, hate the game. (#2) It will eventually leave your body anyway, right? :thoooppt:

3.5 stars. I was very excited to try The Meatball Shop. I live very close and getting to walk past it everyday only makes it more tempting to check it out. I went a few weeks ago with my friend. When entering, you could tell this place was for a young crowd. The music was really loud, and the restaurant dimly lit. It was also equipped with a bar full of obnoxious drunk people. Anyway, the waiter came to take our order. He was really friendly and explained to us the specials of the day. When I went, the specials were the ‘Shepard’s Pie’. That was the lamb meatballs in a cheesy type of sauce. You then choose two sides to go with the meatballs. Our waiter recommended the risotto that night. I ordered the Shepard’s pie meatballs, the risotto, and the simple salad. The meatballs came out first. I took a bite and it was extremely delicious. These definitely were good meatballs, and had a lot of flavor. They were juicy too. The risotto however was dry and unflavorful. Very disappointing. The simple salad lived up to its name; it was just a simple salad. I don’t think I will come back here especially since it was nothing special. The meatballs were good, service was good, the sides sucked, music was way too loud, and the crowd there was disgusting. 3.5 stars!

I typically come here for a quick bite to eat and drinks. While I don’t love meat balls, the menu here is quite creative and offers a few different options for the type of meat, sauce and a variety of sides. I usually go for the beef sliders with a side of mash potatoes. The house made ice cream is really good; rich and creamy. During the evenings on weekends it’s typically crowded and is usually a wait but seating at the bar is available. They play Hip Hop and R&B at a volume that’s just right; makes for great ambiance.

I was never a huge fan of meatballs until I came here. This place is SOGOOD! So good in fact that I came here for dinner on a Friday night for the first time and came back the next morning for brunch and ordered the exact same thing. On both experiences I got the spicy pork meatballs with pesto and provolone on a whole wheat hero. The meatballs had just a slight kick and the pesto was hands down the best I’ve ever had! It was chunky with pieces of pine nuts and was the perfect pairing to the spicy pork. The atmosphere here is nice and relaxed and the waiters are all very nice and give good recommendations on what to order. Definitely come here!

This place is dope. Meatballs done right! There are so many different kinds of meatballs to choose from, from the typical meat and pork to unusual ones like chicken pot pie. You can also decide if you want your balls over pasta or in a sandwich. We came here late night for dinner and the place was super crowded. Also, it’s not the best place for date night because it’s loud as hell in there, and the tables are all pretty close together. I had my spicy balls over linguine with a cream sauce, and it was SO good. I love some good moist balls, and they did not disappoint. Prices were decent too!

Honestly though, the meatballs are already $ 9, and if you want a side you need to pay $ 6?! I ordered the classic beef with spicy meat sauce meatballs. I also got a side of rigatoni in the classic tomato sauce and side of daily roasted veggies. My specialty recipe that I like to cook are my turkey meatballs. Its hard to not compare it. The meatballs here are definitely good. I mean, their shop is named after it. But there’s something about it that didn’t make me go «oh my god, I love this!». My side of rigatoni was definitely undercooked. The pasta was a bit hard and cold when it arrived on the table. But my roasted veggies were a huge hit for me. I don’t hate or love veggies, but I kept finding myself reaching for them more than my actual meatball entrée. The interior was decorated very well. I guess if you’re ever in the mood for meatballs, the meatball shop would satisfy your craving. But I’d rather make my own(plus they’re super fun to make!). Total came out to be ~$ 21 for my entrée and two sides. Not sure if thats worth it to me. If you come, be ready to splurge a bit more than usual.

I’ve walked by this LES location a few times when it was super crowded, so I came during off hours(5:30 pm) for dinner. There were more patrons in the restaurant than I expected, but my party of three was seated immediately at the communal table at the center of the tiny restaurant. A gentleman immediately brought over water and described the menu to us. When I mentioned that I was torn between the classic beef meatballs and the veggie meatballs, he offered to bring out a sample of the veggie one. I was really impressed(and thankful!) as that helped everyone at my table make a decision. Each member of my party ordered the naked balls and we shared a few sides. One ordered the spicy pork balls with tomato sauce, another ordered the veggie variation with tomato sauce over rigatoni, and I ordered the beef meatballs with meat sauce over butternut squash and brown butter risotta. We also got a few ordered of the roasted veggies(brussels, apples, onions, pecans) and the seasonal salad as well. We ended our meal with the oatmeal raisin ice cream sandwich with brown sugar ice cream. The ice cream sandwich was pretty large and easily shared between two of us. Everything was delicious. Portion sizes were perfect, the food came out quickly, and we liked the environment. At one point, one of cooks in the kitchen started singing happy birthday to what I believe was a customer who came to pick up a takeout order, and others in the restaurant started singing along. Great sport to come with a friend or two or for a date!

The hype isn’t real… Very AVERAGE meatballs. I assumed a whole restaurant dedicated to meatballs would have tastier and meatier balls. I ordered two heros both with spicy pork and spicy meat sauce. No spice at all, which was a little disappointing. The bread was soggy(like really soggy), sauce was average, balls were less than average, side salad was a little bitter but apples were a delicious touch. Sadly, I’m upset about this. I expected a lot more from you. On a good note, the cookie I received was AMAZING. Delicious snicker doodle cookie. I love it so much. Amazing!!! A+ Thank you

So this is what I ordered: Classic meatballs Spaghetti Spicy meat sauce This is a classics combination that should be ordered in little Italy. The entrée was well flavored with a nice spice. However they didn’t give you much pasta maybe a ½ cup of noodles if you’re lucky. The worse part about it is they charge you $ 6 for that ½ cup of noodles plus the $ 9 for the 4 meatballs. To top it off they give you a piece of yesterday’s French bread which is not worth the effort of even touching. Needless to say the meatballs are great and may be best just ordering that without pasta.

It’s so dark and loud here that I had no idea what I was eating(kitchen sink) but it was still yummy. There’s usually a 30 minute wait if you come for dinner so make sure you come early or ready to wait because they don’t take reservations. Don’t be afraid to sit next to strangers also because you’ll probably be bumping elbows with someone next to you! I guess it’s a nice accident to talk to a stranger if you’d like ;) The music here is also very different from the romantic feel of the restaurant. They play hip hop music that’s suitable for clubs so it was kind of funny sharing a few drinks and singing along. Now, on to the food, you check off what you want directly on the menu. Classic beef meatballs are juicy and salty like any yummy balls of meat. I’ve actually heard pretty good things about the chicken and veggie meatball so don’t be afraid to venture out. The kitchen sink definitely was a lot more vegetable oriented(hummus, Greek pasta salad maybe, couscous and salad). Pesto sauce was aight but I’d get classic tomato of you’re getting a sub or hero. If you’re getting spaghetti, it might seem really tiny but it’s a heavy dish so it’ll keep you satisfied.

I have always been a fan of The Meatball Shop, not just for the endless supply of dirty humor, but also for the great food. I’ve written a review for another one of their locations, but felt the need to write a quick update/tip– If you’re wondering what to order I’ll make it easy for you: Spicy pork meatballs over polenta with the parmesan cream sauce. This combination is heaven in your mouth and perfect if you’re looking for something hearty, rich and super satisfying. I came in on Halloween and everyone seemed to be ordering this. I had to follow suit… glad I did!

Slowly but surely, The Meatball Shop seems to be taking over the city. I for one will welcome its reign. After one look, I was all about the Kitchen Sink, which comes with your choice of three meatball and sauce served with a smattering of fresh salads on the side. In addition to spicy pork meatballs and parmesan cream sauce, my Kitchen Sink included farro, hummus, quick-pickled carrots, a tart apple salad, chilled roasted mushrooms, and more. Although I was a little worried about the wait, our party of two was seated immediately at a cramped-but-oh-well table on a Sunday around 12:30.

I was so pumped to come here last night. I saw this place of travel channel, so I was expecting great things. I was pretty disappointed with this place. I’ll break it down. Sangria for two($ 15) — it was average. I liked that it wasn’t too sweet. Food: I ordered the spicy pork meatballs($ 9) on top of spinach risotto($ 6). The meatballs themselves were pretty good, but definitely not worth $ 9. The risotto was very undercooked. It was hard. It’s really not that hard to cook risotto, so I was unpleasantly surprised. The mushroom gravy was pretty decent. Our bill came to around $ 50& we split it. Way too much for the quality of our food. I don’t mind paying good money for good food, but this wasn’t as good as I was expecting. Ambiance: nice. Dark. Some small tables, a bar and a large communal table. The people who worked there were in regular clothes? So it was hard to tell them apart from customers. When our waiter asked if we wanted another drink or dessert, we said no and he kind of looked surprised. Maybe the other locations are better? Maybe the meatball sandwiches are better? Who knows. To be honest the meatballs weren’t bad at all! But hard risotto ruined it for me.

I love how customizable their menu is(with 5 meatballs and 6 sauces to choose from for $ 8). I ordered the Classic Beef Meatballs with Spicy Meat Sauce. It was scrumptious! The sauce contained the perfect amount of spice. My friend ordered the Spicy Pork Meatballs with Parmesan Cream Sauce. I enjoyed the taste of the meatballs, but I wasn’t fond of the sauce. I am in love with the sangria. It was sweet and fruity. It’s $ 7 for a glass, $ 15 for a carafe, and $ 40 for a pitcher. We got the carafe. It was the perfect size for two.

I actually got a bit sick from the food(it didn’t seem as high quality)…And perhaps it was overhyped for my expectations, but I overall didn’t find the food exceptional. I gave 2 stars for interior cleanliness & service I tried«everything» — the meatballs seemed so starchy, with bread fillers aka not meaty enough! 1)Buffalo chicken meatball appetizer — not that impressive, not that spicy :( 2) Ordered single sliders: beef, pork, chicken, and the daily special(pizza meatball). Once again, not impressed! It tasted bready. 3) Ice cream & cookies: very tasty! Fresh, diverse options.

I’ve lived in NYC my whole life and finally experienced The original Meatball Shop for the first time in my life! We came here on a Sunday during brunch and to our surprise the restaurant was rather empty, which was great for us. The menu seems a bit confusing at first with all the options, but the waiter was more than happy to explain it to us. I ordered the Spicy Pork Naked Balls with Classic Tomato sauce and Spaghetti under, while my girlfriend ordered the Kitchen Sink Classic Beef Balls with Spicy Meat sauce and Family Jewels. I won’t go too much into detail, but the meatballs were soft, fresh and, quite honestly, lived up to every piece of hype I have heard, read and watched! They had great flavor with the added sauce. The portion sizes of the orders were just right and, in fact, I was surprised at how big the Kitchen Sink order was! The meatballs definitely will fill you up. To end our meal, we couldn’t resist ordering the Browie Walnut Cookie with Vanilla Ice Cream. It was a huge ice cream cookie sandwich, but despite how full we were, we devoured that bad boy with ease! It was one of the best ice cream sandwiches I’ve ever had! In the end, good service, chill atmosphere and, most importantly — great tasty balls!
