Went her on Friday night. Bouncer is extremely rude and obnoxious. Will not be returning. Thanks!

With all the happy hour specials going on at this place… Wow it was hard to leave! I was greeted immediately and had great service from our bar tender. The happy hour was whole bar was off until 8pm!!! Like blessed?! Haha I had a few beers and order their pizza. Their pizza hit the spot! Oh man. Also the busser was on top of it! As soon as I finished my beer and pizza he quickly came over cleaned up the table and asked if we wanted more beer. Pros: great service, friendly atmosphere, cool music, let’s not forget that happy hour special! Cons: nothing!. Maybe that the bathroom is all the way downstairs and really small. Would I go back? Absolutely! ***Tip: I checked into this location on Unilocal and I received a coupon for a free draft beer with an entrée! :)

If you don’t mind rolling deep with bros, the bartenders give you great pours on drinks, friendly waitstaff and bonkers deals. I’ve been coming for 5 years and I can’t imagine I’ll stop that buffalo chicken is glorious. Buy your server a shot, they give you faster service. Sit at the bar, they give you faster service.

Terrible Service I have never left a bad Unilocal review before, but this place has some of the worst service in the city. I went with a party of 7 to grab dinner and watch football on a Saturday night and finding a table was the only positive part of our experience. Our appetizer was brought out after our entrees. An order of fries was cold. An order was forgotten. The waitress was rude and made us feel like an inconvenience the whole time, especially when we tried to redeem the Unilocal offer for a free draft. Never going again.

Great Game day spot. Happy hour deals are great and there are a ton of seats upstairs and in their huge downstairs room too! Not to mention they have more TV’s then you can count hanging from every wall. each strategically labeled with what games are going to be playing on them… so simple, yet so flipping smart! I wouldn’t say there is anything overly amazing about the food and drinks but it’s really the overall atmosphere and friendliness of the employees that makes this place fantastic. If you get there a bit early your guaranteed to find a place to sit and watch your favorite team. but get there a bit late and you may be standing around. BUT, the service is pretty great when you compare it to other pubs and sports bars. If you are just trying to hang out with friends, drink some beers and watch a game this place is ideal! I will definitely be back next time in in NY!

we had a great time here, halloween night, the pitchers were flowing, plenty of fried food snacks and great staff… what else is one looking for in a bar… i didnt venture into the dining area, but the bar was packed, loads of TVs and good views of multiple sports from any angle… good drinking spot!

Not a place I would frequent but it was a normal bar — crowded, little to no service, bland bar food — so I’d go back for the Gator games from time to time.

Definitely a basic bar with okay drinks and okay food. Service is also okay. My favorite part was the potato latkes which were fried to a crisp with yummy onion flavors. The wine was okay. No real wow factor but I do love that it is welcoming to a pretty diverse crowd and has affordable drinks. Although I came for a private event, I have met up with friends for a quick drink or two here before. It is a spacious bar and has great space for private events.

SO impressed with this place. There is really nothing amazing about this place that catches your eye. However what impressed me was the service we received upon entering the bar. I had just completed the breast cancer walk and my group was of 8. Half of my group was underage but we were starving and just wanted some good bar food. The owner/guy behind the bar was SUPER understanding and told us that we could eat but no liquor should be near the underage individuals of our party and we were able to stay. Aside from him, the food was amazing. I order the sloppy joe sliders which were so delicious and the sweet potato tator tots were AMAZING. Never had anything like them before and it was beyond expectations. I love sweet potato fries and taters so the combo was amazing.

Those happy hour deals… oh man. I was staying with a friend on the UWS and my coworker and I decided to grab a drink after work. It’s definitely a local spot. It has the prices of a college bar but with better quality drinks. It’s nice to stop into a place and not be overwhelmed by people or tourists. The happy hour specials make the bar really worth it. As other reviews have described, it’s just a bar. It’s a place with alcohol, table, and chairs. There’s nothing special but there’s something special about the vibe at the same time. The Gin Mill is a really a spot that you just feel comfortable grabbing a drink with someone and chilling. Also, an affordable drinking spot not by Columbia on the UWS? Yeah, I’m into it.

It’s a great bar to chill to relax peacefully(in the afternoon) and have a beer. Generally the waitress will find you instead of the other way around given youre not in a huge hurry to drink a beer. I’ve met a lot of lovely people here both native new Yorkers and foreigners so it is a very social crowd especially at night. The food is not great, that is if you don’t think about it too much it s not a bother really. Beer is cheap and average. Bartenders won’t leave you hanging at the bar. Bathroom downstairs is snug looking like it’s meant for a small child but hey it works. Overall don’t expect too much except for the obvious cheap pitchers, tiny tables, mediocre all American food and middle aged men checking you out with their friends.

It’s such a shame because I was really looking forward to going here for a friend’s 21st birthday celebration, but my experience here was EXTREMELYDISAPPOINTING. First of all, the bouncers and management were so disrespectful and rude. My friend from North Dakota showed her drivers license to the bouncer and they denied it and said, and I QUOTE, «Nope. I don’t like the way this id looks.» This escalated into a scene outside the bar, which was extremely embarrassing for someone who is actually showing their real id and is 21! We asked the bouncer if we could talk to the manager, but he was even WORSE. He used an APP on his android to scan the id and later compared my friend’s North Dakota id to pictures on GOOGLE!!! We were there for our friend’s birthday who reserved the speakeasy room downstairs for a 3 hour open bar, but this whole ordeal lasted at least 35 – 45 minutes so it ate away our open bar time which cost us $ 40. The bouncers finally let my friend in, but as you could imagine our night was off to an awful start due to said altercations. The actual speakeasy room was nice but they only gave us 2 bartenders for our party of 40 – 50 people, one of which was in training. The service was slow, the drinks were weak, and they served majority of the drinks in plastic cups. Definitely not worth the $ 40. Overall, this place was a huge disappointment and I will never return to The Gin Mill after my experience.

Stopped in for drinks and bar food after my Sball game in the park. Good decision. The environment is a chill and typical city sports/divey ish bar with lots of TVs, friendly staff, and solid amount of room to sit/stand. A HUGE plus is that it seems they most likely have the MLB package, since every game being played last night was on some TV. This is great for any sports fan looking to watch their NY or non-NY team’s game. The menu offered a great amount of food options that all looked good for typical NYC prices… perhaps a bit cheaper. The drink specials were fantastic. Daily specials plus regular happy hour specials got us great deals. It was Wednesday yesterday, so after 8PM pints were only 3 bucks(I had a Sams and my gf had a shocktop)…we even got bud lights for $ 2.50 by the end of our night. Great deals every day and they vary for both beer and liquor. We ordered nachos and they were well done, cheesy, and really good. Portion was good for two. Another bonus is that they have an ATM and one of those phone charging locker machines so you can charge up and not get your phone stolen. Although I’ve passed this place a million times, yesterday was my first time in and I loved it.

My friends and I came here for Memorial Day weekend and we had a blast! They have large screen tvs which the guys loved since the basketball playoffs was on. We came here on a Sunday so the drinks were super cheap! From 8pm-close you can get any draft bottles, specialty drinks, and shots at only $ 4.00! Can’t get any better than that! We found parking right out front. Crowd was cool! Music was good! And the ambiance very chill! And they also serve food. We ordered wings and Mac and cheese. Mac and cheese surprisingly good! I will def be coming back.

I give the bars on Amsterdam a hard time, but Gin Mill has been pretty clutch for me on a number of occasions. Gin Mill is owned by the same people who run Jake’s Dilemma and 13th Step(ick and icker), but unlike those two bars, I actually enjoy myself here. My notes: –I came here last night after a long hiatus. I think my last visit was around July 2014. I immediately recognized the bartender — we both went through one of those«you look familiar… do I know you? were you here before…» thought sequences. We both found it odd that we remembered a random weeknight from last summer, but I digress — nice to see a familiar face and a great bartender! Props, Travis. –There are always great specials here. The beer isn’t great(Shock Top, Bud Light, Angry Orchard on tap…)but it’s half of every night until 8(so that would be $ 3 beers… not too shabby) and on Mondays, beers and shots are half off until close –Love coming here to watch games. The primary reason for my frequent visits last summer was the World Cup. Good luck finding a seat for an event like that, but the atmosphere was unbelievable. I’ve also been for the World Series and NBA Finals(both alone and with friends) and it’s usually a great time. –This place can get fratty(a la 13th step — though to a much lesser degree), which I don’t love. I didn’t mind in college(shocker), but I’d avoid this place on college night(I think it’s Thursday) if you’re not into that. Otherwise, there’s nothing notable about the crowd here. A bit older given the location, but otherwise nondescript. There’s no mystique about this bar. They’ve got cheap beer and lots of TVs. I wouldn’t suggest venturing to the UWS just for Gin Mill if you live downtown, but if you find yourself in the area, check it out!

Another Unilocal find! Took the husband for a cultural experience at the Museum of Natural History and needed an inexpensive place to relax and enjoy a few drinks and good food. I did a quick Unilocal search and found the Gin Mill! Perfect! When we first walked in it was crowded and a little overwhelming, as big groups were crammed at the bar watching March Madness. Luckily after one of the games ended, some of the rowdy groups left and we were able to find a place to stand until a bar table opened up. $ 2.50 Coors Light(um, why bother when other good beers are less than $ 1 more?) $ 3.25 for the Peak Organic Summer Peach and $ 3 the Gin Mill Amber. I enjoyed a few of the Peak Organic Summer beers and a Jameson shot for $ 3.25. Jameson was definitely watered down so don’t know if that’s worth it. I say skip it. Service at the bar was fast and friendly, and after waiting for a few, a small table opened up. Many good size TVs above the bar and above the entrance. Coming back for some cheap beers & eats to watch a Mets game might be an option! For food we ordered the sweet potato tater tots with spicy mayo dip, alone these are worth a drive into city. So good! Gin Mill you are a great bar and one we hope to return to soon! I love your reasonable prices, great food, and fast friendly service.

This is probably one of my favorite bars in the city. It’s nothing special, but every time I come here I have a good time. The crowd is always chill, music is good, drinks are great and priced well, and the bartenders are friendly. This isn’t one of those spots you come to get completely rowdy, it’s a more casual atmosphere to enjoy yourself at. They even have beer pong! Overall, great local hotspot on the Upper West Side. I’ve been coming here for years.
