What a special place. Simple and tasteful surroundings, gracious and kind staff. Bartender is incredible Genuinely loves his craft. Attention to patrons which one would hope to find at a much higher priced establishment. The food is meticulously prepared, creative, yet not silly, not overly salted and as fresh as it gets. Uni toast are heavenly. Hamachi… incredible. Grouper and rib eye entrees were perfection on a plate. Too full for desert Wishing continued success for this gem

This is an extraordinary restaurant with lots of creative and interesting dishes. We had the five course tasting menu. Excellent. Also excellent was the service and the drink menu. At a $ 75 pre fixe, it was a real find.

I’ve been here a few times now for drinks but I finally came here for a sit down dinner with my parents. The meal was excellent. We originally were going to have the tasting menu but ended up opting to order several a la carte dishes to share instead. We started with a dish of straciatella and one of the specials of the night, a warm salad of grilled fruit and greens, and a grilled octopus dish. Then came the gnocchi, the lamb loin and belly and a pork dish I can’t quite remember now. The lamb definitely stood out with the rich flavors and tender meat. I think this along with the straciatella were my favorite dishes of the night. The dessert we shared was interesting, a panna cotta and sorbet pairing but the panna cotta’s texture was a little off and it was a forgettable dish in comparison to the rest of the meal. We also had some wine but of course I had to start with one of Kelvin’s concoctions. I had a punch that was a perfect start to the meal. All in all, my experiences here both as a bar and a dinner destination have been quite good and consistently good that they deserve a 5 stars. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

We tried the tasting menu at The Eddy’s last night. The food was good(I wasn’t a big fan of gnocchi, they were just too big)! But the value of the tasting menu is really bad. The portions are smaller than regular size appetizers and entrees. If you order everything on the tasting menu a la carte it comes out cheaper than the tasting menu by a couple of $(per couple). It sucks that the couple next to us got a much bigger portion of the ribeye and probably paid less for their meal. We were also pretty disappointed by the staff. A waitress spilled bear on my husband, and offered nothing more than a new one. The poor thing sat all wet through 75% of the meal. At the end, the waitress gave us some tiny portion of «great way to finish your meal» liquor as an apology for his inconvenience. The liquor tasted like mouth wash :(. Overall, food was good, but don’t get the tasting menu. It’s a rip off!

Great drinks and great food. Baked oysters with granola was amazing. Small seating so be ready to cozy up to your neighbors !

Awesome little place. Great food. Well prepared. Cocktails are as good as one can get. Service was a bit slow but worth the wait. A bit pricy but worth it.

At the Eddy having beef tenderloin puffs and washing it down with a dial #6 for Gavin. This is a must visit in the lower east side. Cocktails and vibe are on point.

Was blown away with my meal here. It was non-stop delicious from our cocktails to our entrees. Everything on the menu was original, creative, and composed masterfully. There’s an option for a $ 755-course pre-fixe, but we opted to order a la carte to give us more freedom to craft our own dinner. The 5-course seemed to be a pretty good deal though considering the prices of the individual dishes. The Eddy is a pretty small place with the tables close together, but they offer free coat check which helps :) For appetizer, we ordered the beef tendon puffs, which were crispy fried tendons with dill /cream on top. They were small tiny bites, but were delicious and opened up my palate for my meal. For entrée, we had the gnocchi with kale and hazelnuts(who would’ve thought hazelnuts would be good with gnocchi?) and rib eye with lettuce and fried potatoes. Both were so good. Although I wish the gnocchi was more chewy and al dente, I loved the authentic and homey feel of the dish. The kale and hazelnuts combination was yum. The rib eye was excellent — perfectly at a nice medium rare, and seasoned perfectly. I also loved the lettuce and fried potatoes it had on the side. For cocktails, we got the Deep Sea Colony and Strange Visitors. Both were out of this world. We had just gone to Angels Share(one of my favorite cocktail bars) before The Eddy, and thought this was extremely comparable. The Deep Sea Colony had a slight edge because it was more unique, but I really did love both cocktails. For dessert, we ordered the Malted Milk Ice Cream with Amaro Abano(a bitter). I thought this was good, but I couldn’t really appreciate it as much as my boyfriend did because I’m really sensitive to bitter food. Not the dessert’s fault, but mine. He really liked the contrast! I had an amazing time here, and I believe we were able to talk to Eddy himself who recommended us the dessert. He was extremely hospitable and nice. I can’t wait to come back!!!

Visited The Eddy for a holiday meal with my friend tonight. It was probably the best meal of the year for us. Honestly. We went with the tasting menu because it was our holiday splurge and we were impressed with every single dish placed in front of us. The 5-Course Tasting Menu actually included 6 dishes, because one of the tastings had 2 shared plates. The menu kicked off with a decadent but surprisingly light and crazy delicious Cauliflower«risotto» with parsnip and nori, and topped with West Coast Uni. What a way to kick off dinner… I was satisfyingly savory and it set the tone for the rest of the meal. The next course was the shared plates, so we tasted a dish of chopped Apples with Almond Butter, slivered Landaff Cheddar and Black Radish. It reminded me of snacking on apples and peanut butter, but it was infinitely more elegant and balanced. The other dish in this course was Seared Octopus with Romesco, Pecans, Dried Olive and Cured Lemon. It was cooked perfectly and the romesco was wonderful with the octopus. The two dishes were paired together… sweet and savory… very well. The next course was Ricotta Gnocchi. It was very good, but gnocchi is not usually my favorite pasta. I’d say that this was the only dish that wasn’t spectacular. The next two courses were a choice of entrees and dessert. Both of us chose the beef and the panna cotta. The Grassfed Ribeye with Crushed Potato and Charred Romaine Lettuce was fantastic. It was served medium rare and sliced over the charred leaves. The romaine was tasiter than I would have though seared greens would be. The dish was smaller than the regular portion, but was more than enough for the tasting menu. Finally we capped off the dinner with a Cardamom Panna Cotta topped with Clementine Ice, Basil, Olive Oil and Sea Salt. It tasted a little like an orange creamsicle, but perfumed with sweet basil. We paired the appetizer courses with a glass of white wine from Austria, and paired the beef with a cab sauvignon that the server expertly suggested. It was a really memorable meal and a great way to celebrate the holiday with my friend. I Highly recommend The Eddy!

I came here with my boyfriend on a Saturday night. We sat at the bar and it was great! The bartender is amazing — you can definitely tell he knows what he is doing and loves doing it. The food was also great. It is a bit on the pricey side though. Good spot to come with a friend or on a date. I wouldn’t come with a large group since its small, but you can make reservations for parties over 6. Great ambiance! RESTAURANTOVERVIEW: –About 6 stools at the bar where you can eat/drink or just have drinks –Another room with just tables — mostly 2 – 4 people tables –Dim-lit, cozy atmosphere APPS: –Crab Toast: So good! I loved that these were bite size. Came with 4 toasts, so it’s great to split between 2 people. –Beef Tendon Puffs: I would skip this. You can’t really taste the beef at all — you can mainly just taste the crunchy/flaky cracker that it is served on and the dill crème — all the other ingredients are overpowered. DINNER: –Ricotta Gnocci: If you are eating this for dinner, you have to get the large size. The large isn’t very large at all and you will definitely not have leftovers with this size. The small size is good for an app or a side I would guess — or if you aren’t very hungry! DRINKS: –Deep Sea Colony: Flowery tasting with the violet liqueur — this was good, but I prefer either lemon-y tasting, fruity tasting, or whisky drinks more. –Old Fashioned: Great Old Fashioned! One of the best I’ve tried in the city(close to Amor y Amargo’s OF) *The bartender’s skills are very impressive! SERVICE: –No complaints *Very small portions with a larger price tag overall

What a charming place! Just stepping into the front area where the bar is, the warmth of the décor/ambiance sinks into your bones. Highly highly recommend The Eddy for dinner between two friends or dates! You should try the below: Crab Toast — heaping amounts of crab… yum. Seared Octopus — they serve one single long fat tentacle. Delicious Ricotta Gnocchi — all the hype is right. The small order is 3 pieces, while the large is 6. Just go for the large for $ 25. You should skip: Apples with Almond Butter — Someone described this as fall on a plate, which was overrated. I’d pass on this… you can just slice up apples at home eat it with almond butter. Plus if you skip this, then you can eat more crab toast.

Charming restaurant in the East Village and one of the nicest meals I’ve had in a while. They pay attention to details in terms of food and décor. Everything we ate was delicious and looking forward to coming back soon!

Came for a work dinner and so glad because not sure I would have come on my own. Was previously filing this under the«new American downtown, $ 150 meal for two, dime a dozen» establishments list. But it was much better than that. We were a large group and did a fixed menu. Everything was delightful: scallops, octopus, a starter with apples that sounded boring and tasted like awesome fall. I only took issue with the gnocchi which were just too large and tasted like undercooked flour. Cocktail to start was great. I ordered my standard negroni, it was made with such care. The menu cocktails my dinner buddies got were all great. Service was lovely– not fussy, but always right over your shoulder when you needed something, yet never invasive. Highly recommend.

Amidst a stretch of nondescript Indian restaurants in Manhattan’s East Village, The Eddy — a charming New American restaurant — appears to be the black sheep of Curry Row. But there is nothing disgraceful about being an outcast in this case. In fact, The Eddy stands out even more with its creative cocktails and flavorful fare that have delighted diners since it opened about 1.5 years ago. DRINKS While my typical go-to drink is a glass of Cabernet, I had to make an exception to try The Eddy’s signature cocktail. From its expansive drink menu, the cocktail that immediately caught my eyes was the Bedrock Fizz. Bedrock Fizz This dreamy concoction combined Old Tom Gin, apricot brandy, and Aperol that has been infused with Fruity Pebbles. On top was a fluffy bed of meringue, which was created by shaking cream and egg white for approximately 30 minutes. The bartender then poured a glass of fresh seltzer for a dramatic rise of the meringue and sprinkled a spoonful of colorful Fruity Pebbles. Soon enough, I was drinking(…or perhaps, «biting» into) the most whimsical cocktail I have ever tasted. APPETIZER The Bedrock Fizz was just the beginning of my food journey at The Eddy, whose food menu draws flavors and inspiration from around the globe to spotlight seasonal produce and local proteins. The tapas-style appetizers were ideal for sharing. Some of my favorites included: Crab Toast with Cilantro Aioli + Guajillo Chili Atop a grilled, bite-sized toast sat a generous portion of lump crab meat mixed in with cilantro aioli. The crispy toast was then drizzled with guajillo chili sauce for a subtle kick of spiciness. Butter Poached Barnstable Oysters with Sunflower Granola I no longer have any qualms about eating cooked oyster after trying this dish. The plump, butter poached oysters were not only seasoned perfectly, but also topped with sunflower granola for that crunchy texture. Beef Tendon Puffs with Dill Crème, Smoked Trout Roe, and Charred Onions There was a lot going on in this dish. The airy, crunchy beef tendon puffs were dressed with a dollop of refreshing dill crème and topped with salty, smoked trout roe. The chef sprinkled charred onions(don’t be fooled… it’s not seaweed!). ENTREE I couldn’t decide between land and sea for my entrée. Luckily, the solution presented itself: Get both and share with my friend! Seared Scallops with Pioppini Mushrooms, Cashews, and Bonito Carrot Sometimes I receive a plate of food that is too pretty to eat — and this scallop dish was one of them. The plate included three plump scallops that were perfectly seared on the outside with charred edges and juicy, chewy inside. These scallops were laid on top of golden bonito carrot purée with a side of sauteed pioppini mushrooms, carrots, and other greens. Wagyu Chuck Steak with Crisp Potatoes and Charred Lettuces The medium rare wagyu chuck steak from The Eddy was so tender, and I finally understood what it meant by «melt in your mouth.» The steak had just enough fattiness to add flavor without tasting too greasy. The crispy potatoes and charred lettuces on the side complement the dish. DESSERT No matter how full, there is always room for dessert! At this point, I was done deciding between option A and option B. I wanted to end the dining experience at The Eddy with a loud bang, and order all the desserts on the menu. Malted Milk Ice Cream, Caramel Apple, and Cardamom Panna Cotta The Eddy magically combined both sweet and savory flavors to its desserts. The creamy Malted Milk Ice Cream had oozing Amaro Abano foam on top with crunchy pistachio crumb and celery. The tender Caramel Apple with walnuts and smoked milk foam had crispy cheese cracker on the side for another layer of flavor. Finally, a bed of Concord grape ice topped with basil, olive oil, and sea salt laid atop creamy cardamom panna cotta for the perfectly refreshing way to end the meal.

INSHORT: A small, unassuming restaurant with the warmth and comfort of an old, English tavern, The Eddy is serving sophisticated, contemporary takes on American classics that are nothing short of exceptional. THESTORY: 30 seconds after walking into The Eddy, I fell in love. It wasn’t just the low, stone ceiling or the rustic wood rafters lining the modest, 30-seat space. It wasn’t just the way a little whiskey is served in an ornate china teacup, or the fact that everyone in the restaurant seems so comfortably, casually beautiful. It was the way I was told that I might have to wait a few minutes for my table, because the previous couple was slowly finishing up. It was a line I had heard a hundred times elsewhere, but at The Eddy, it was spoken with a genuine kindness and apologetic affection that I just hadn’t felt in this city before. Perhaps it was just some happy gas flowing through an old tenement pipe into this cozy East Village space that made me so joyously obsessed with The Eddy, but many a restaurant could learn quite a bit from their front of house, whose extraordinarily pleasant affect could soothe even the most high maintenance of diners. It’s just one of the many, many details that The Eddy gets so right. Chef Brendan McHale is especially sensitive to detail in his cooking, too, and small bites like the sunchoke flower-ricotta toast and the beef tendon puffs with dill crème and a smoky, juicy trout roe are utterly impeccable with the way they balance acidity, creaminess, and salty, savory depth. The crab toast with a cilantro aioli received the spice it always needed from a guajillo chili pepper, elevating the fresh, crispy bite to a level it has not achieved before. The larger appetizers like the seared octopus are also major successes. The juicy, tender octopus seemed to marry perfectly with a romesco sauce, whose nuttiness was emphasized by crumbs of pecans, and whose peppery-ness was tempered by dried olives and cured lemons for an innovative adaptation of Mediterranean flavors. Though Chef McHale’s talents certainly shine in his $ 655-course tasting menu, the star of the a la carte menu is undoubtedly the grassfed ribeye drizzled with an intensely pungent Brie fondue. The fondue has a way of almost melting into the pores of the dry-aged strips of meat, making each bite even more rich and luscious. Roasted potatoes beneath the steak are crushed so the salty crisps of the skin find their way into every bite, while charred green onions add a subtle, vegetal sweetness to the dish. It is simply the zenith of New American cuisine. The Eddy also treats their cocktails with as much creativity and respect as their food, and some like the Bedrock Fizz are charming additions to the meal, shaken up by a bartending staff that actually smiles at every guest like an old friend. With Old Tom gin, fruity pebble aperol, apricot brandy, citrus, egg white, and cream, the Fizz is a chic, contemporary cocktail that’s actually fun to drink. And it is right at home at The Eddy, whose basic, comfortable space is intended to host serious, thoughtful cuisine that everyone can enjoy. Yes, I fell in love with The Eddy, and I fell hard. First the positives: the restaurant itself was super cute and modern. I loved the entrance. It felt like I was walking into someone’s home. The first thing you see is the bar and it looked very cool. The host was very nice and seated my friend although I hadn’t arrived yet. Usually you’re asked to wait at the bar until all parties have arrived. The dining space was very rustic and cozy, but it was tight. There aren’t a lot of tables which is probably why I felt rushed. It’s a small restaurant so I’m sure they needed to free up the tables quickly. My friend ordered a cosmopolitan but received a kamikaze and didn’t send it back. I asked for the drink with the foam and pretty hearts. Definitely the coolest drink I’ve ever had. But, it was really weak. Hardly tasted any alcohol. As an appetizer, we ordered the crab toast and it was delicious. We also ordered a tomato dish that wasn’t on the menu and it was nice too. As entrees, we both ordered the ribeye, but before I ordered it I asked our waiter if it was fatty(because I don’t like fatty) and he said no. Really? Every bite had fat in it… and not a little… a lot! I basically played with the slices of steak trying to find the least fattiest parts, but I was so over it after a while. My plate was a mess when it was taken away. We ordered corn as a side and it was amazing! But sadly it didn’t make up for the bad steak. I wasn’t even offered a second drink because I’m sure they wanted us to leave so we could free up the table. We didn’t even order dessert. We asked for the check and it came out to about $ 160! I usually don’t care how much I spend on food as long as it’s good. But the disappointing ribeye made me feel like I didn’t get my money’s worth. I probably won’t return.

3.25 stars This is a cute, romantic little spot, but the food was more on the mediocre side despite the really good ratings for this restaurant. I guess I was expecting much better food. Little neck clams — pretty bad; I took one bite and almost spit this out Octopus — good Gnocchi — good but the gnocchi pieces were huge Lamb — delicious Cornbread dessert — decent

Have you ever wished that you had discovered a Michelin restaurant before it had won its star? Have you ever thought, «If only I had given this place a try before reservations needed to be made 2 months in advance and its prices went up»? If so, you need to check out The Eddy. Of all the amazing new restaurants I’ve tried, this is the one I would bet on if people were putting their money on which new restaurant would become a Michelin. I was recently in New York and made reservations here, Gramercy Tavern, and Jean Georges. Of the three, I think my friends and I enjoyed our meal here the most. This is what we tried: Appetizers:(Think amuse bouche portion sizes) Bacon tater tots($ 5): Be aware you are only getting 4 tots for $ 5. Tots also come with a dab of english pea purée and mustard. Good but I was definitely expecting a little more. Beef tendon puffs($ 8): Just 5 bite sized little pieces. These come topped with an onion cream and trout roe. Tasty little bites though. Beet Salad($ 14): Also good, but nothing incredibly memorable. Entrees: Gnocchi($ 15): There is also a $ 24 version, the difference being the amount of gnocchi. For $ 15 you get 3 large pieces and for $ 24 you get 6. Best gnocchi I have ever had. If you like gnocchi, you need to try it at this place. Lamb Loin and Belly($ 28): Wonderfully prepared lamb. Better than Gramercy Tavern’s. We skipped out on dessert but I’m regretting doing that now given how delicious the rest of the meal here was. Of the three nice places we tried in New York, this is the only one I would make a repeat visit to. Highly recommend for a date or for celebrating a special occasion with a small group of people.

Wow… it’s been awhile since my tasting menu days. This took me back. Came here with a group of 7 for a friend’s birthday. They won’t seat you until everyone’s arrived… but luckily we all got there around the same time. My cocktail was really fun and festive… but boy can they add up! We got almost as much in drinks as we did our meal. With a group this large, we all had to opt into the tasting menu. I can’t remember the details but I was not disappointed. And it was just the right amount of courses that we were satisfied. We had an 8:30 reservation… and ended up leaving around 11, so make sure you give yourself enough time for dinner if you have after dinner plans.
