The Brown Cup

This has become my favorite place in the neighborhood. I come here for breakfast at least twice a week because the food is so good and the people making it are so nice. They have never had a problem with me calling ahead to order and then I walk over with my dog. They bring out my order and play with my dog every time. My favorite breakfast is the avocado, tomato, and egg sandwich on whole wheat toast… so simple, yet so delicious and fresh! I also love the Café Banana smoothie which has a kick of espresso mixed in. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu here! Oh and their house blend coffee (hot or iced) is some of the best I’ve ever had.
The only weird thing is that they seem to have frequent staff turnover. Since I go there so often, I notice when my favorite people have all been replaced with new faces. But it’s okay, the new people are all just as friendly!

Full disclosure– I’ve only ever really gotten an iced coffee here. With that said, I get it here a lot. They are super friendly as other reviewers have said. Iced coffee is good and always hits the spot. I’ll have to try their sandwiches one day!

Don’t blink as you could pass this one by that’s has small it is. Food is always fresh the coffee very good and the young ladies behind the counter continuously smiling and pleasant!

I really want to love Brown Cup because of the super nice employees. They are always so kind, and they have very sanitary food-​prep practices, which is an absolute must for me.
BUT… please get better coffee, Brown Cup, PLEASE!!!
I wholeheartedly agree with others that the coffee here has a funky after taste, which makes it completely undrinkable. I keep giving their coffee another chance hoping it will be better, but its always bad and I always have to throw it away! Can you imagine how much better Brown Cup would be if it also had great coffee?
Please get better coffee, Brown Cup!

Oh you know what I just love getting the fruit cups from here. Their watermelon is always ripe and very sweet. Same goes for the mango cup. I love their fresh orange juice here. Yoghurt cup was good too. I’ve tried their pulled pork sandwich too.
I really like stopping by this place before I hop on the bus. The staff her is super friendly. They are always smiling and they are very quick. I’ve never missed the bus while trying to pick up a snack from here.

Not one of the good ones. Coffee was okay, had a funky after taste and their pastry was old and stale.

Ned is one of the nicest baristas in town. Thank you for my perfectly made cappucino three years ago. I still judge every cappucino I have to this one. It is the yardstick. This is a friendly local hotspot that welcomes people of all ages. I will see you in July for my capp Ned! I am looking forward to it.

Great local spot! My hazelnut latte was delicious. It’s super small so don’t bank on getting a seat here. Only about 4 seats at all and when customers are in there also ordering it’s super cramped. Definitely a grab and go spot. Yummy egg sandwiches too, all made to order. Definitely will be back!

Fantastic delicious iced coffee. Friendly & courteous staff. Cute shop. What more could one ask for?!

Best. Place. Ever!
These girls are great EVERYDAY! My usual order is their Egg, Tomato, and Avocado sandwich they make. I typically pair this with one of their smoothies, which are all amazingly tasty, and they are more than willing to substitute ingredients. They are SO friendly and kind, and after being a frequent customer, they know me by name.
Only con is that they don’t take Discover cards. Which is more than okay, it’s more common than you’d think, and isn’t a problem at all!

The Brown Cup has really good coffee. I had both iced and hot coffee, and they were both very good. Way better than the crap they serve at Starbucks. The place is very small so it can get a but cramped, but it’s mainly a take out coffee shop so it’s ok. The people who work here are friendly and efficient. They keep the line moving. I definitely want to come back and try their breakfast sandwiches bc they always look really good and look healthy.

Decided to take the advice of my fellow Unilocalers and give this place a try. I also work a few blocks away so this worked out great. Well, kind of. Place is nice, seems stocked well with the ingredients needed to fulfill your order, food is fresh, smoothies are very good and yes I will keep going back there for my all time favorite Peanut Butter Banana w/​Protein Powder and Almond Milk! I’m giving them 4 stars which should be 3 and a half because it takes them way too long to make 2 of the exact same smoothies and I’m the only one there, not to mention as far as I can see they don’t deliver. Other than that, great place with really good food and nice employees. They just need to pick up the pace a bit. After all, we are in NYC People! GET WITH THE PROGRAM! Lol!

I ordered latte and mocha. They only have one size and coffee was something like water. We couldn’t even finish those. It could be better than this.

I stopped going to Starbucks so I could support this local business. And they are worth every single penny. Here are the reasons why:
1) The coffee is just BETTER 2) They are the friendliest people you will find anywhere in NYC. You will walk into the shop with a chorus if «Hi!» and leave with a chorus of «Bye! Have a nice day!» 3) The prices are more than reasonable. 4) The bacon egg and cheese will make you hear angels singing with every bite. Unless I have an underlying condition which is making that happen. Either way, it’s delicious.
I catch the bus to work every morning at the stop right outside the Brown Cup. If they notice that my bus is coming and I’m still waiting on my coffee, they start to hurry my order along and get the door for me so that I can run out and catch it in time. That’s beyond customer service. That’s just a group of good human beings. As long as I’m in the neighborhood, this is the only place I will ever buy my coffee.

So convenient that this shop is right by the Select M15 bus. They are very fast to ensure you don’t miss the bus. The coffee is fine, nothing amazing, but I prefer to support them than Dunkin or Starbucks.

Just a great Swiss army morning foods/​smoothie/​caffeine spot. I always get their avocado egg tomato sandwich in wheat. Everything is made to order and the portions are solid.
The fruit cups, smoothies and juices are not complex but they can be customized. The servers are always extremely nice and always have a smile.
Bonus: their shop is right in front of the M15 select bus.

My favorite thing was the green smoothie, considering that all breakfast was really good. The guys there are fast and gently. Good service, also like holidays music.

Brown Cup is the closest coffee shop (to me…) that pours a decent, drinkable (I’m looking at you, Starbucks) Iced Americano. It’s not the best, it definitely not the worst and it’s perfect for when I don’t want to walk more than two blocks for my caffeine fix. Also, the service is great. The women who work here are just the sweetest and I’m always greeted with a smile.
I took off a star because it’s a little pricey and they have a $ 5.00 credit card minimum.
