Pieces of the Berlin wall inside a cavernous lobby of 520 East 53rd St near Madison truly give a sense of what the wall must have done to the city of Berlin. A plaque at the base gives the date of the wall. Be sure to look at both sides of the massive wall. Security at the lobby entrance are so helpful. Even took a picture of us in front of the wall.

The pieces of the wall are back after being restored. The pieces are now located in 520 Madison Ave. To all the Unilocalers who put one star and said«it’s not longer here,» really!?! What’s wrong with you? Open up the browser on your smart phone and Google search that it A. was being restored for about 10 months and B. It moved… Such a monumental part of history, I recommend stopping by and checking out this gem. You obviously realize that the wall must have been huge, but seeing it in person really puts it in perspective. Just imagining a wall this size going through the whole city… just amazing. You can truly appreciate the intense emotions that must have been present when it was knocked down. Just amazing.

The 5 segments of the Berlin Wall are back after being removed to be conserved, but are now located inside the lobby of 520 Madison. Such a great piece of history preserved!

The wall is no longer there. We asked the guy at the reception and he said it has been removed. He said he has no idea where it is now.

Easy to miss, and probably not worth a special trip except for Wall completists. But interesting to look at if you’re in the area. Out of context historical graffiti & some interesting design points(for example, the top of it is curved in a way to discourage grappling hooks).

It’s an interesting piece of history. See it every day. Whoo-hoo~! Would be better if they had something that could give it a little more history. When did it get here? How long has it been outside of 520? A more obvious sign that it’s from the Wall would also be cool to educate the uninitiated.
