Still one of my favorite places for lunch in Tribeca. Sushi mixed lunch special, noodle sets, handrolls, all excellent. Miso cod is as good as Nobu’s. Get the red miso, has an umami flavor that is much better than regular miso soup. Service is friendly.

Our go to Japanese restaurant in Tribeca. Consistently great quality sushi and other traditional Japanese dishes. Our usual orders are sushi sashimi for two, rolls, udon noodles, rice bowls with chicken. Reasonable prices.

If you don’t mind paying Tribeca prices for run of the mill sushi and leaving hungry. And why is a Michelin star is on that window?

Very very fresh and high quality sushi. Really spoils me for anywhere else downtown. Their big crazy rolls are great too.

I don’t think Takahachi deserves the three-star rating. In fact, I’m tempted to bump it up to 5 just to even things out but I don’t think that’s the way Unilocal is supposed to work. In any case, I had a lovely dinner here on a recent Tuesday. I had just come from yoga and felt a little underdressed — the ambience is Tribeca-nice. The wine list was a little expensive but not terribly so, and I really enjoyed the garden salad, which was miles beyond typical sushi restaurant romaine-house salad — it had different types of seaweed, cucumber, onion, romaine and other interesting herbal things. I could have just ordered that and been completely happy! My tuna and avocado roll was perfectly decent, and my boyfriend’s udon dish looked incredible. If I had a complaint, it was that the white miso soup was both too watery and also lukewarm, but even so, great dinner. Service was fantastic as well.

Have you craved sushi at around 6 or 7pm and know that there is no way you’ll get a seat at an affordable AND decent sushi restaurant in the city unless you’re willing to wait all night? And you have no reservations anywhere because you just can’t plan a sushi craving in advance? And it’s not like you can get delivery because you’re with one or two other people who are also craving sushi like no tomorrow? If you’re thinking, been there — done that(«that» as in taking another hour to decide the second best place to satisfy all three of your dejected palates), then take cheer in adding Takahachi restaurant to your list of speed-dial sushi shops the next time you find yourself in this situation. I can’t always guarantee that you can walk in with 10 buddies and expect to get seated right away(hint: small parties are better), but it’s on a quiet street in Tribeca and gets fewer crowds and less pomp than some of the more well-known sushi places of its ilk. Its ilk defined as that elusive blend of decent quality and affordability. The décor is elegant and the ambiance is more on the upscale side than what you might expect, but it’s quite comfortable. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the sushi dishes, and the tempura was actually quite good. Believe me, it’s hard to do tempura right. Some places make the batter way too thick.

I came here for a birthday dinner with friends and family. I expected more out of the price, overall it was mediocre at best. We ordered two different types of sake, two big bottles of Kirin Ichiban, edamame and soups to start. I got a tofu salad, which was kind of disappointing because the tofu was just placed around the salad, and wasn’t grilled or cooked, just plain boring tofu. I also ordered the Winter Roll, which has avocado, alaskan king crab, asparagus and cucumber. They didn’t cut the roll properly, what could have been 8 pieces of sushi was only 6??? The tri-Sashimi was pretty good; tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. I was expecting more from this restaurant, as they held one Michelin star in 2010. I’m guessing there’s a reason they got dropped from the list.

Foods there Taste good. Little expensive though but I have a delight dinner here with my family. Recommend Don rice and Ale Rice, and don’t miss their sushi it’s very worth to try for once! Heard They got some lunch special which is cheaper than dinner.

Great sushi at a great price. HOWEVER, the service when placing an order is terrible. One time I called and they placed me on hold without telling me why for more than 10 minutes. Another time I went to pick up my order and they told me it would be ready in 25 minutes. I arrive there 25 minutes later to wait another 20 minutes for my food. If the sushi was not so good I would stop going there… Argh.

super fresh and well made maki /sushi for an affordable price. when I done at a well known Japanese run sushi bar/restaurant, I expect a certain level of service. the waitresses weren’t terrible, but they need to stop being so aggressive. quit asking me if I’m ready to order as I’m still intently staring at my menu. and please stop rushing people to finish when you still have empty tables. perfect for lunch, but not so acceptable during dinner I ordered the hamachi tartar which supposedly included uni… but I didn’t taste it at all. not bad for a tartar, but disappointing when you say there’s uni. from a la carte, I ordered the king salmon and uni sushi. king salmon has a beautiful bite to it, a certain nuttiness and a lack of fishy taste. I would order this again $ 4 a piece. the uni was $ 7 a piece and there were 3 pieces of uni on top. the last part of my order includes the taxi roll. this comes in 4 huge pieces. it’s the size of a large roll. very fresh fish. the soy paper adds a texture element, but it’s not needed. $ 14 overall, what i ordered was satisfying but I didn’t leave full. it was a good price for the quality and I would come again. however, I didn’t enjoy the service and would aim to only go if I wanted a quick dinner.

I was expecting the same kind of food as the original Takahachi in LES. Man, I was wrong. It seems all Japanese restaurants in this area fail to deliver. This place is one of those. TBH, I wasn’t impressed by what I ordered. The presentation for Sushi Deluxe and Sashimi Deluxe was just alright. I expected more hoopla for what I paid for if you know what I mean. And the fish was not as fresh as it should have been. All in all I’ve had better; you can skip this place. Go to the original in les instead for a much better experience.

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for ten years and have eaten here off and on for a decade. The food is fresh, innovative, and tasty, especially if you go off menu. Prices are typical for sushi in the area — expensive — and it can get crowded which, coupled with the booming take out business they do, can slow things down a lot.

My favorite sushi spot in NYC. I’ve been coming here for years and was surprised I hadn’t written a review yet. I echo many of the other reviews that this is a great, affordable restaurant for high quality sushi. If you’re hesitant about trying something unfamiliar or you just can’t decide what to get, I would highly recommend ordering the sushi and sashimi combo — it gives you a little of everything! Also great for takeout!

I’m sorry to cull another star, but the food here is getting worse. Last time I got salmon rolls I had to discreetly discard inedible bits of skin. The time before, the shrimp dumplings(lunch side dish) were served warm not hot. Wake up people — this place used to be the best!

I’ve been to this restaurant about three times now and I swear it is like Jekyll and Hyde, I’ll explain. Now I’m not sure if this is in fact what is happening but this is what I am assuming is happening at this restaurant. There is an A team and a B team staff depending on WHEN you come to this restaurant. When I visited Takahachi during the weekday for lunch, it feels like the Varsity team is playing and the food reflects that. The service is on point, Japanese greetings when I walk in and real wasabi with my sushi and sashimi combo. This resembles closely to the Michelin noteworthy restaurant. However when I visited for dinner time on a random weekend. I definitely encountered their B team staff. The sushi was sub par and I got the cheap wasabi and the meal resembled something that you can get at a Chinese lunch buffet for 12 bucks a person, which would be fine except that I paid almost $ 80 bucks for two. The place was relatively empty for a dinner time meal and the typical Japanese sushi chefs that I see during the lunch time meals were replaced by a couple of Chinese guys and a Mexican. Not saying that Chinese and Mexicans can’t make good sushi, but it seems like a notable downgrade overall, both quality of food and quality of chefs. Maybe this is due to having more customers during a weekday lunch rush versus how relatively empty it is on a weekend dinner time in the area, but if you want to try this place at this max potential, you should probably make the trip during a weekday lunch.

Bottom line: pretty good, some rolls better value than others, great green tea crêpe dessert. The rolls here are good if not«authentic» in the traditional way: they have some creative options like Chicken Little which features fried chicken, Road to India which features a curry sauce, and others embellished with too much condiments that would make Jiro cringe. But they are mostly quite tasty at the end. Some rolls like the Indian curry roll were not good value — you get 4 giant pieces that are hard to split and hard to fit in your mouth at once for $ 15. But others like Ocean’s 13 are good value, you get a large roll with maybe 10 pieces for less than $ 15. The dessert of green tea crêpe cake is really good and cleanses the palate nicely. They used to give you complimentary hot matcha tea at the end of the meal but somehow this nice gesture stopped.

We’re start with the red miso soup, it’s very tasty. Chirashi, Grilled Black Cod, and Hamachi Carpaccio are our main dish. Everything is fresh and delicious. Service is also good and very friendly.

This place is really delicious. It all around taps each category of Japanese fare with capital yummy. Came here at 530 with my family — we were 5 plus a baby. This location, being in Tribeca, is family friendly so they had a nice clean high chair and they were extra sensitive toward not putting hot dish near my baby niece. We came for Mom Day, and they had chicken katsu and a clear vegetarian jelly for us to us share– as we were dining with two Moms, my Mom and my sister. We all shared: — The hamachi, very fleshy and fresh– pretty delicious, not the most delicious — Four types of sushi rolls: salmon, tuna, eel, and some other kind of fish… tuna and salmon combo? All very good sized rolls, and fresh. — The rock shrimp tempura with tempura broccoli– deliciously, perfectly fried, not overdone. The portion waa good and the aioli it came was traditional and plentiful. — This hot soba soup which came with a soft boiled egg, chicken meat, lots of veggies(like carrots, radish, etc) and two shrimp tempuras. which was fresh and clean. Not my favorite but just because I like cold soba best. –Two types of miso broiled fish; sea bass, and cod — which were plentiful and perfectly cooked. I preferred the lightness of the cod– the bass was sweeter and thicker in glaze; it also had bones. Both had really good cooked veggies like a cabbage and potato salad. –Edamame– always fresh, salty and good– warm. –Really hot, well seared fried chicken meat– karage(sp?) with good dark chicken meat –Some kind of cold Spinach in sesame dressing; a bit weird and sweet but tasted healthy — A seabass fried dumpling which my niece thoroughly enjoyed; the taste was pretty unique. All in all, a great place with overall good food. Service was in typical Omotenashi fashion.

Love this little place for lunch and dinner. This is the epitome of comfort Japanese food. A group of us always go when we’re feeling down or empty, especially from the soul-sucking nature of work. The lunch specials are amazing. For about $ 15 — $ 20, you get a soup /salad, two sides(sushi /dumplings), as well as consistently good entrees. My favorites are the chicken katsu, sea bass, and the miso cod. The vegetables that come with the main dishes are a bit overcooked at times, but still comforting nonetheless. The green tea crêpe cake is unfortunately a disappointment. It’s quite soggy, and the texture is heavy, not like the light crisp one from Lady M — plus there’s no scoop of ice-cream on top, and the price is still $ 10. Let’s skip dessert here, for now. One of my favorite things about this place is the diversity. It’s nice enough to go on a date, but casual enough to bring a good friend. It’s private enough for a deep conversation, but«rowdy» enough for a close group of young 20s to have a good time. All in all, love love love.
