Love this place! The chicken shawarma is to die for.
The place is is around my school and I love coming here after a long day of studying. Nothing satisfies a sweet tooth more better than a vegan chocolate finger.
When I can’t sleep at night it’s because I can’t stop thinking about the luscious fresh greens and the smooth creamy tzaziki. Not only is the staff polite and attractive, but the salmon makes me want to go shirtless for the rest of my life. Bernie 2016

Still so good! And today I finally got to try the brisket. Worth the hype, my brisket and egg pita was brain-​meltingly delicious.

Awesome! Lamb kebab is seriously great. The pita is all made in house and is so fluffy delicious. Will definitely eat here again.

Amazing fast casual middle eastern spot near union square, really authentic shawarma and I love the salmon

Good Mediterranean food and pretty fast service. The atmosphere is nice and casual and it’s also easy to order for pickup or to go. I’ve come here roughly 10 times and not been disappointed.

I tried this Mediterranean style cafeteria, I ordered a lamp kebab pita. It comes with potato chips. The chips were cold and very oily, no salt on… The pita has almost uncooked kefta, fortunately, there are the species that covers the rawness of the meat. Inside, they put large piece of raw eggplants, they are just un-​eatable. They should really copy some Mediterranean food existing already, because this one is just a poor copy!

My wife and I had the schwarma plate, the chips with hummus/​taziziki, and a salmon pita. It was great, and they’ll give you a free cookie for your Unilocal review.

Came here with my friend because we were craving chicken shawarmas and wanted someplace to sit in and eat without tipping so we discovered this through a few Unilocal searches. when I got here, I saw that there was a salmon with rice, arugula salad, and yogurt sauce. I decided that I wanted that instead. My friend got the chicken shawarma.
The plate came in a small pan and nicely presented. You have to ask them for a hot sauce and I thought it would go well with my salmon. The rice, salad, salmon, sauce, and hot sauce was the perfect bite. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Many places tend to overcook salmon too much but this was just right that it stayed nice and moist. The yogurt sauce was so good. The hot sauce wasnt as spicy as I thought it would be (I was told it was spicy).
I would come back to try the eggs they make in a sauce (I saw someone eat it and it looked good… I think I just like the idea of runny egg yolks and soft eggs on anything tomatoey).

Love this place~awsome sauce~first time here actually, just wanna take a small dinner before gping to the dance club nearby, turns out to be a surpirse. love the pork pull plate, too bad i didnt get it, my friend got it and i tried a bite and loveeeee the sauce so much, regret on the salmon i got~

I’ve gotten the salmon plate here and it’s so delicious! Have come here for lunch and dinner. Great spot near union square to have a quick casual meal. Also recommend the homemade mint lemonade!

Their $ 9+ Roasted Salmon Platter with Arugala Salad beautiful dressed in a superb vinaigrette and Tzatzki dollop of garlicky wonder! Plated beautifully.
This is a great place for people who appreciate a Chef who wins each at each dish!

The reviews may be a little overhyped about this place. If I was basing this off décor alone, the place would get 5 stars– tasteful, clean, communal tables. But because the food is an important aspect, I have to reduce two stars. The chicken shawarma itself was good, with plenty of spices– but the hummus and rice were bland, moreover the rice was very dry. I asked for extra hot sauce and they charge a dollar for it, which if fine, but I’m glad I didn’t get it because the hot sauce was too bland, a little bitter, but definitely not hot.
Considering I go to school in the area, I may stop by again, but definitely with lower expectations.

Love this place — chicken shawarma for days. Quick, easy, filling, and surprisingly nutritious!
The beer is quite reasonably price too. Good place to go to eat and wash it down for $ 15 or so.

Met a friend here for a late lunch yesterday around 2pm. The place was not as crowded. We were able to grab a seat pretty easily. I ordered the Lamb Kebab Pita. Good size as I wasn’t super hungry. The bread was soft, fresh ingredients like tomatoes, cilantros, onions, the white sauce was present but not too overbearing. My friend ordered the Chicken Shawarma plate which came with rice and a side of hummus and pita chips. It was also tasty
Good option for a quick but healthy lunc.

Taboonette does a few things right, but there is still a lot to be desired. First off, the prices on their PDF menu on their website are dramatically different from their in-​store ones. I ordered the falafel platter which online is only $ 8, but when we arrived at the store found it to be $ 11.75. I know they can charge whatever they like, but at least keep your website current!
The platter was fine, but nothing came out of the kitchen piping hot. The rice was dry, and the tahini was a little bland. The falafels were tasty though, as were the pickles. (See pic.)
I also ordered the homemade mint lemonade, which also had other herbs steeped in it. One of which was sage, and it overpowered the entire drink. I couldn’t get more than a few sips down before tossing it. (I don’t think there was anything wrong with the lemonade, I just don’t like sage in my drinks, and if you don’t either, beware.)

The pricer and non-​franchised version of Hummus and Pita! We came for lunch hoping to try the popular Brisket Plate, but was told they were already sold out an hour ago (It was 1 PM on a weekday)!! So instead, we opted for the Pulled Pork and Chicken Shawarma Plate. Each plate was about $ 12, not including any pita. With meat and veggies piled on top of a bed of yellow rice and topped with either hummus for the shawarma or bbq chipotle sauce for the pulled pork, the plates were pretty standard. The pulled pork had a lot of fat chunks, while the slaw was a bit too watery. Between the two plates, we thought the chicken one was tastier! The green sauce (for spicy food lovers) definitely gave the chicken a yummy kick.
Verdict: Hummus and Pita beats Taboonette any day! Perhaps, the brisket plate is that amazing that it steals the hearts of Hummus and Pita’s lovers away… but I have yet to experience! I would definitely return to try that Brisket plate, but as of now, I highly suggest you head on over to Hummus and Pita (just a block away) and get twice the amount of food (including a warm pita and a choice of 3 sides) that is just as tasty (if not better) for equal or less than Taboonette’s price!

I am going to keep it short and simple. This is OK for lunch Middle-​Eastern food. It’s something like «almost-​authentic». Why the hell do you put both tahini and humus in the pita wrap (which isn’t wrapped at all btw)? Humus has plenty of tahini in it already. It’s like adding both ketchup and pureed tomato sauce to your burger. You see?
The thing is, you can’t find great Middle-​Eastern food in Manhattan with the exception of literally a couple of places SO since the competition is so weak this place is actually the best of the worst.

My friend and I came into around 6:30−7PM on a week night and didn’t have trouble getting a seat. It’s a small restaurant with limited seating, so better to come earlier. The interior is quaint and clean, and the atmosphere is relaxed.
We both ordered the chicken shawarma plate with yellow rice, and both loved it. The chicken was juicy and tender, seasoned well and cooked right. The hummus was smooth, creamy and savory. The cherry tomatoes and cucumbers were great additions, and gave the dish a fresh element as well as more color. The rice could have been cooked a little less. It was too mushy for my liking. The portion size was perfect, and left us satisfied, but not overly full.
Definitely give this place a try. It’s good for a quick meal that is homey and filling.
