I see from reading other reviews that some think there is a «language issue» when it come to service. This is not the case. We were told it was $ 25 minimum per person as my family of three walked in; we have a 10 year old so fair enough. I said we like to spend money(ha ha) and that was that. Put aside the fact that the quality and appearance of the sushi served was subpar to say the lease; they gave my wife three different pieces of tuna on a 9 piece order. Chewy clam, mushy fluke etc. Forget the slow service as we asked twice for a miso soup so my daughter could eat, or the cold Japanese Fried Chicken that was served. It was disappointing and expensive and we felt clearly that we weren’t welcome. It was pretty apparent but alas it was just one of those things and we weren’t going to go back anyway. As we ask for a check an African American woman enters alone. She was shown the menu and told that it was Omekase $ 60 to eat. She was slightly confused and polite and asked nicely if she could sit to look at the menu anyway. All of a sudden that $ 25.00 per head was skipped entirely. Now it was $ 60.00 ITWASBLATANTRACISM. I felt like I wasn’t welcome as a white customer and fine, thats your loss if you want to not have gaijin in your empty(«authentic»)restaurant fine, but this was beyond the pale and it was disgusting. We told the owner and the whole staff that they should be ashamed of themselves. It was awful. We told her what we thought. Turns out she was a tourist, staying at the POD hotel a few door down. She left after we confirmed what she had experienced. It was obvious and shameful. I never review places and barely read others. I hope people read this.

What happened to Terence T happened to us, too. I think there was a huge language barrier. At first we thought we were being offered Omakase for $ 25 each. Turns out there seems to be a minimum of $ 25 per person charge, which is not hard in a decent sushi place. The servers tried to get us to order the$ 60 Omakase menu, which we were just not hungry enough for. They sold us very expensive sake without letting us know the price. Yes, we should have asked, but a menu with prices should have been offered. They just asked us what kind of sake we liked, brought out a bottle, gave us a taste and we ordered two small glasses. Then we found out they were $ 16 each! Too late, but it was good sake. The service was ok, and the food we got was very good(if this review was for food only it would be 4+ stars) but the minimum was a little ridiculous. $ 80 for two miso soups, 2 big rolls and the sake. Ouch. We don’t live in NYC, so we won’t be back, but just be aware of the pricing scheme.

Walked in and was greeted by the hostess who immediately asked if we plan on spending more than $ 25/person. Never been asked that walking into a restaurant and I didn’t know I looked like I’m a lite eater? Used to love this place but will not be coming back.

Great little place for Sushi. We weren’t disappointed. The sushi was fresh and tasty. Service was excellent. The place is kinda small but is cozy and has good ambiance. Will definitely visit again.

I have never felt so ripped off as I did last night. After going for delicious oysters at CRAVE we decided to try out Sushi You based on the reviews on Unilocal. When we walked in they asked were we ok with Omakase. Since my husband and I are extreme lovers of the omakase experience we of course said«no problem». They asked how much money do we want to spend — starts at $ 90. So we said lets start there and we’ll add more if still hungry. We ordered the Sushi & Sashimi Omakase. We were pushed to order an appetizer as they said sushi takes a while — they were not kidding… So a crappy salad of iceberg lettuce and dried fish came out for the«Baby Anchovies salad. Then after like 25 min or more a unimpressive board of sashimi was presented. It did have monkfish liver, but the rest was dried out pieces of tuna, white tuna(what respectable place serves white tuna??) and some other very average sashimi. OK so now for the sushi… the people next to us were getting some really nice handrolls with mounds of Uni. NOTUS!!! They gave us 4 or 5 pieces of sushi each — the best being a small piece of Uni with Ikura. When they handed us our last piece which was only the 4th or 5th piece… they asked us if we want more. We looked at each other and was like WTF!!! The guys to our right were getting pieces of Toro — and we were getting seared seabass. Apparently they are regulars. We left there spending $ 290 for oh so average sushi/sashimi(had way better quality even at Tomoe). Anyway we left there and went to one of our faves, Sushi Seki… where we had Omakase again. For $ 120 ea, we go about 12 inventive delicious most satisfying pieces. I dont know if Sushi You didnt treat us well because we werent regulars… but $ 90 should buy more than some some average sashimi and 4 pieces of sushi that took over 1 ½ hours to serve. It gets 1 star for the cheesy 70’s music/video’s on the tv’s — we enjoyed that!

Incredible. Had the sushi and sashimi omakase and from start to finish the meal was sublime. This establishment was such an unexpected find. The restaurant is small, but very cozy and cute. The chef was quite personable(not to mention a charming goofiness!) and made sure that we were enjoying our meal — clearly had a passion for what he does. The staff was very friendly and kept our tea full at every moment while making sure that everything was satisfactory. All in all a fantastic experience and a restaurant I won’t hesitate to revisit.

We got there for dinner with reservation & was seated without a fuss. It is a cute little restaurant with staircase heading into it. It reminded me of Tokyo! The servers are japanese & were friendly. The food was authentic. Sushi were amazing!

After eating there I felt strange from the stomach a few weeks, maybe the uni wasn’t that clean. It was like an ameba or something. Other than that it had 80’s Japanese pop singers in the TV, the bar was colorful. I had the Omakase, tasty, at lunch, at a table, not at the bar. …it was that rare feeling left in the stomach.

My neighborhood sushi joint. From what I hear, it’s extremely authentic to what real Tokyo sushi dens are like. The patrons inside are always primarily Asian people, which I take as a very good sign. The fish is unbelievably fresh, and the chefs are laid back, cool dudes who seem to like what they do. I only have a few warnings, the place is tiny, so make a reservation, or prepare to possibly be turned away. Also, it’s randomly closed a lot. Like on Sundays.(?!) I still love you Sushi You!

Always thought Sushi You was one of those authentic places. The atmosphere certainly is. Old school Japanese sitcoms playing in the background and noisy people at the sushi bar. However, the food was anything but authentic. The beef tongue was gross. Dried meat and they topped with peppercorns. Doesn’t work. Gross. The chawanmushi was loaded like some backed potato. Caviar was not tasty. It was filled with asparagus, avocado and mushrooms. Overkill. The Charashi was fairly decent. Lots of rice. Sloppy cuts of meat. For $ 27, it was a little too pricey. Rather go to SenYa or even Hibino. One and done and never again.

There’s always good sushi place around this neighborhood and sushi you definitely belonged to this group. It was already packed even 20 minutes after opening at lunch time and my to-go order was going to take another 20 minute to arrive. Decided to wait as I’ve already walked a long distance… Ordered Chirashi(assorted sashimi over sushi rice) with a small salad(can also choose soup). I would say at the price of roughly 20, it was not cheap; nevertheless they gave me enough fish meat that could satisfy me more than enough. Waitress was also attentive during my wait. Would for sure come back for omakase, if I can secure a reservation up front.

You know you’re in the right spot when you see 90% Japanese customers and 100% Japanese staff. Music selections ranged from Billy Joel(with hair), Eric Clapton, to late 80’s Japanese pop. It was interesting. Pleasantly surprised on a random weeknight serving of Omakase from the talented chef of Sushi You. Place was nothing fancy in décor but menu was on point with«real» Japanese dishes. Bill wasn’t cheap($ 295) for two of us, which included Omakase for 2, sushi tasting, medium sized bottle of sake, and a bottle of Sapporo. So worth it though!!!

If you have ever been to Japan, you know how the sushi spots are like that in Tokyo. Small, tucked into a tiny corner, but every single one delivers perfectly cut sushi and rolls. Of course, japanese people’s perfectionism makes the whole difference. But since my visit to Japan, I haven’t been able to find Japanese-run sushi corners; most of them are run by Koreans and the Chinese. But this place is different. I came here to take food to go and as soon as I entered I heard the familiar Yashei-masei(‘welcome’ in japanese) and all the waiters, sushi makers and the clients were Japanese. I was thrilled to find this place! The rolls are not cheap, but they are definitely worth the price! Sitting and waiting here for my to-go order took me back to the time I spent in Tokyo; a truly unforgettable experience. I took the food and ate it at the waterfall park across the street from the restaurant. That was another breathtaking experience!

We were lucky enough to get a reservation on the fly, we were seated by the bar where you can see your food being prepared. We noticed that a lot of potential customers were turned away because they didn’t have a reservation plus the chef/owner was only doing Omakase and nothing else. Everything thing that was served from end to finish were just out of this world. I had the combo omakase of sushi and sashimi for $ 90. I didn’t want it to end. The final serving was a hand roll of uni and unagi wrapped in crispy seaweedThe flavors were just amazing.

4.5 stars We went to Sushi You several times and were always satisfied. The fish is fresh, the portions are good and the staff is nice. Our first time there was a fun memory as the chef was very funky and was acting like a rock star. The restaurant always have some karaōke/80′ concert in the background, which apparently helps the chef(with his sunglasses on) to feel the vibe while he prepares his sushis. The place is very small though so it might be hard to be seated there.

Hum, seems there increase the price after a renovation been completed. I always get the Chirash, somehow, the portion looks smaller now, but still good in quality, fresh and you can taste the sweetness out of it. Seems a lot people get Okamase today, looks pretty good, wanna try it next time.

We did the chefs choice and everything was magically delicious — so good I wanted to kidnap the sushi chef and take him home with me. Sushi was super authentic and probably the best I have had — definitely plan on going back! Also they blow torch the fish which is something I’ve never seen before and also extremely cool. Sit at the bar if you want front row seat action… I promise you, you will not be disappointed. It was also amazing how the guy literally makes hand rolls within seconds — it’s incredible

They were able to squeeze me in on Wednesday and I sat at the bar. I have not been to Tokyo or Japan for that matter and you don’t feel like you are in NYC. They are playing some karaōke on a TV and most everyone in there is speaking Japanese. I was disappointed towards the end of the meal as a 2nd white guy came into the restaurant. I was really hoping to be the only white person in this restaurant. Pros * Food. I didn’t do the omakase but I ordered two hot appetizers, sashimi and a sushi roll. All were great. Tried dried string ray for the first time, pork stuffed mushrooms were pretty solid and the sushi and uni were very fresh * Service. They were super friendly, very polite and just pleasant. Very refreshing Cons * Service. So this place is small… can sit maybe 25 people comfortably and 35 uncomfortably. Servers are asked to help prepare some of the appetizer and even the sushi chef is answering the phone. They seemed wildly understaffed but each server is just asked to do a lot. This caused me to ask about 3 to 4 times to get water, 2 times to get soy sauce, etc. Again, super nice people but just running around like crazy people * AMEX. They don’t take it. Sucks if that is your corporate card so just a heads up.

I came here with a great friend from Japan, who is on a long assignment in New York City. He claimed the sushi here was better than some of what you can find in Tokyo, which put my expectations high. They didn’t disappoint me. The sushi chef here is from Japan and has a long time training in the trade. The sign behind the bar is a tribute to the first sushi bar that he worked at in Japan. Culture is apparent in everything you experience at this restaurant. I had a substantial sampling from the menu including the Omakase(chef’s choice) Sushi, which I highly recommend. With this you will get a sampling of several pieces of sushi masterfully prepared by the chef. In addition, I sampled the grilled tuna collar(Maguro Kama), wasabi squid appetizer, and cucumber salad. I highly recommend the tuna collar, it’s wonderful for anyone who enjoys pork dishes and the flavor is amazing. In addition, they have a wonderful selection of saki and rice beer that complimented the Japanese fare here perfectly. Everything here is fantastic. The service here was excellent and friendly. They were very conscientious about my need for gluten free options and closely monitored their selections to meet my needs. My only recommendation is that they get some gluten free soy sauce to compliment their selections. However, this is a mild recommendation considering many of the sushi samples required no accompaniment. By far, some of the best sushi I’ve had in my life, and a place I’d seek out when visiting the city.
