I really wanted to like this place, but they are very overpriced I think there is much better places in the city that are reasonable the service wasThe place was clean, but three rolls and two glasses of wine for $ 120 that’s wow, I would never go back there again

The food is very good. It’s clean, comfortable and you can dress up or dress down and you’ll blend fine. The worst part was the hostess, who I found to be very nasty, indignant that we didn’t have a reservation and not truthful with determining the time we would be seated. Make a reservation to bypass her attitude and you should be set.

Am I the only one that thinks this sushi just isn’t that good? Couple fishy pieces, and for the price, there’s just way better sushi spots around the city. Consider it a notch above Haru but that’s not saying much. Overall mediocre at best. Hostess also had an attitude, told us 30 minute wait but it took an hour… Wish we had walked out because now I’m at home with a stomach ache.

The spicy scallops hand roll is excellent. Best ever. The Omakase is delicious but expensive.

The food was good, just not worth the ASTRONOMICALPRICES. I was disappointed with our meal because this restaurant was so hyped and came so highly recommended. The rolls were good, but nothing special. I didn’t find the fish to be of significantly superior quality than other places around the city that are less expensive. In fact, some of the fish was a bit salty, and we all agreed the tuna was bland. The only mind-blowing thing I ate was the spicy scallop handroll — not spicy, but amazing flavor and texture. This was truly a standout. If I go back, I will definitely eat more of those and less rolls. I did like that the restaurant lets you customize your rolls. You can choose more unique fillings to pair with a fish, such as spinach or mushroom. Overall, I was not impressed. I don’t mind paying up if it is really worth it, but this place did not meet my expectations. I am willing to go back and try the Omakase. Maybe that is what is truly amazing at this place and it will change my mind. The service is excellent. The restaurant is clean and well decorated. I liked that the tables were not too closely crowded together.

Unimpressed! No high chairs on premises. Sadly this sushi loving and sake drinking clan couldn’t eat there last night since there was no seating for our daughter. Pretty ridiculous. And at 630p on a Friday it looked like you could have used our business.

Fantastic. Very pricey though. Be careful with Omakase because it could easily cost you over 400 for two people if you have some drinks. But the sushi is divine

Really good sushi — everything’s very fresh and tasty. Our waitress was really nice and helpful with the menu; we were happy with everything we ordered. I did soba noodles and the eel roll, delish. My husband did spicy scallops, fried oyster and a mushroom roll and said it was all great. Next time we will try the beef dumplings too.

After trying Gari and Soto this is still the best sushi I’ve had in New York City so far. Service is very good, although heads up they do that up selling trick by asking you if you want still or sparkling water. Tell them you want tap, otherwise you’ll be paying $ 7 for every tiny bottle of water they present and open for you. I had the omakase when I went and it was worth the $ 140 price. Highlights were the oyster, hamachi with jalapeño foam, and my all time favorite the salmon with grilled tomato on top. It’s not too fancy and the signage outside looks corny but don’t mistake this place for another throwaway sushi place designed around the palettes of mayo lovers(although they do do a spicy scallop roll, which I hear is pretty good against all odds), this is sushi at its best.

Taken here by a fancy international friend. Delicious sushi, sitting by the sushi bar is the best. Large selection of saki. Go with someone who will pay for you.

The host was extremely nice and accommodating as I made a last minute reservation and I’m glad I did. When I first sat down at 6:30 the place was empty and by the time I was done eating not one table was open. I like the atmosphere, it’s a cute date spot. The food came out quickly and everything was good but definitely overpriced. They have a great wine and sake list. If the prices weren’t as high I’d definitely go back soon but for what it was there are a ton of sushi places in this city that are equally as good for half the price.

This place provided the hands-down best restaurant experience I’ve ever had in NYC. From the second my boyfriend and I stepped into the restaurant to the second we exited, the staff were generous, patient and extremely knowledgeable. The food they make offers a unique take on Japanese cuisine, and their chefs are very creative. They also took the time to explain to us exactly what we were eating, and where the ingredients came from around the globe. My boyfriend and I especially loved our bar chef, a man named Hiro-san. Do come here on a nice dinner date. You won’t be disappointed!

Very underwhelmed. Went with a friend last night and did the omakase. Was very disappointed in the sashimi which was bland, and did not taste fresh. The sushi was fine but nothing out of this world. The service seemed to be disjointed — maybe an off night? Really wanted to like this place but thought it was WAY too expensive for what it was.

3X the cost of comparable sushi nearby?! Yes the sushi quality is tops. But this place is literally twice /no thrice! as expensive as four comparable sushi spots within 12 blocks. I’ll use Alpha Fusion on west 34th as a comparison: Fresh Uni Toro Alpha Fusion has a dozen more innovative and delicious rolls AND is significantly less expensive. The service here is mediocre at best. Nice hostess. You decide

This sushi restaurant outclasses the neighborhood. I came in off the street after wandering the east 20-somethings for a sushi place I hadn’t been to a hundred times already. Somehow I ended up almost at 8th avenue. I found the place with geo search and given the touristy/out-of-towner vibe that is 23rd street on the west side I was anticipating some real garbage, but I was very hungry at this point and had no expectations. The exterior evoked a traditional or mid-to-upscale izakaya and the guided entrance was a lovely segue from the bustling metro tourist street. I had to wait a moment for the hostess as she was also taking delivery orders. I asked for and was seated at the sushi bar. I ordered a carafe of a dry sake, my preference. The retail was a bit higher than I’ve seen but not terribly so. I also ordered a tsukemono appetizer which was surprisingly colorful and appropriately robust in flavor. Two men were seated directly next to me and they were loud and wearing too much cologne. Amazingly the itamae sensed my mild discomfort and reseated me a few seats down at the bar. I ordered my preferred pieces, nothing fancy: Chu-toro, tamago, Saba, Tobiko. They Saba and Chu-toro were great, the Tobiko was as expected, but the tamago had a slight fishiness to it. I ordered some Unagi which was excellent as well as another Chu-toro. On leaving I visited the rest room which was not immaculate but clean and the décor was quite good. I don’t like to round up, this was a 4.5. I am rounding up because of the attention to detail and excellent treatment I received despite the audience likely not being so discerning. I will be back for omakase.

It’s all about the food. The quality of the fish is so fresh. Very small selection of drinks and dessert. But the fish is good that I’m not mad about it. Service is very traditional and unobtrusive. Still the fish, the food. Is everything.

We had a really good meal but I must say we went with pretty easy options; snow crab California rolls, shrimp tempura rolls which were both nice and fresh with a nice presentation. Then came some really good stuff … A beef negamaki which was delicious — not huge but very fairly priced under the entrée section and my sister had the fish collar and even though I am not a huge fan of fish I had to agree it was pretty good(I guess that is great if you like fish). Then we finished off dinner with a spicy tuna tartar cocktail — I know it was a little backwards way to order but we saw it being prepared and couldn’t resist! My sister being an expert in whisky and tequila said they have a great selection of Japanese whisky — and a few she had never seen before. And a really nice selection of Tequila as well. Since this is right next to one of our favorite movie theaters, Chelsea Bowtie I am sure we will be back!

This is some of the BEST sushi I’ve ever had. Yes people complain that heir plates are small and expensive but their fish is EXQUISITE and if you are on Unilocal then you should see the pictures and know what you’re getting into before you go to the place. They have extremely fresh ingredients. We had the Omakase which is a chefs choice selection tasting menu and it was amazing! I cannot say enough how fresh and delicate their pairings are. No filler and fluffing of their sushi with too much mayo and wasabi but just the perfect delicate melt in your mouth fish. Their sushi was worth every penny! My favorite sushi is the salmon with sautéed tomato on top and their tuna carpaccio. Absolutely amazing.

This place is alright, we tried the omakase(at the table) and the fish were really fresh. However, the Uni did not taste so good, it wasn’t as fresh as it could be. The best part of the omakase was the roll. Overall, the omakase was a nice fusion of authentic japanese dish and a modern touch of spices. We had a big party and they were really nice and accommodated us with a private room.

I brought a date here recently and I must blame Sushi Seki for not getting a second date. The evening was going very well until we stepped foot inside Sushi Seki. We flirted as we walked through madison square park. We strolled through Eataly holding hands and tasting parmesan and mortadella. We had wonderful cocktails at a nearby bar. But then we walked into Sushi Seki. A black hole of rude and unapologetic waiters, endless waits, mediocre food, and oppressively hot rooms. We were seated immediately in the back where I noticed it was very hot. Understandable as we just walked in from a very cold evening. Off with the jackets and sweaters. On with the ice cold Sake. This was little help as it was still rather hot. After a few minutes, we made note of the other patrons that were clearly uncomfortable and asked the waiter to adjust the temperature. This was never addressed. Not a huge issue but the first of many annoyances. Time to order food. We focused on Sushi and also ordered some appetizers that the waiter recommended. Now things get back. Just over one hour later, we received our two appetizers. Both cold. Too hungry to send them back we tried our best to find some satisfaction. Another 45 minutes passes and still no food. As charming as I am, I could not maintain the conversation much longer. I was breaking. She was breaking. This was not going well. After several complaints, the waiter brought us edamame. EDAMAME! The lower cost item on the menu after tap water. To make matters worse, the edamame was microwaved. Some 30 minutes after the dry and tasteless edamame, our sushi finally arrives. The sushi is mediocre, unmemorable, and sloppy. We pay, she says she is too tired to continue the date, the date is over, I go home and order in Ki sushi. She has not returned my calls. Thank you Sushi Seki.
