Very tasty sandwich but the onions over powered it, the roast beef was pretty plain but they made it up with the chili siracha sauce($ 7.49 + tax = $ 8.16).

I finally made my way here to try the phở sandwiches and they are definitely deserving of all the hype. I ordered the(hot) Phở #1 which comes with roast beef, bean sprouts, basil, onion, cilantro, avocado, tomato, hoisin sauce, and sriracha chili on a roll for $ 7.49. The second I bit into my sandwich, I couldn’t believe my tastebuds. The sandwich perfectly conjures up the flavors of a bowl of phở in an innovative and convenient delivery method. Eating the Phở #1, I couldn’t help but marvel at the genuinely novel sandwich invented inside an unassuming deli. The sandwich here is the real deal(unlike some other gimmicky food mashups that have clearly been put together for five minutes of fame — ahem, LA Phoritto). Seriously, whoever came up with this deserves the Nobel prize of sandwiches. I was a bit wary of roast beef, since I don’t exactly remember ever loving any roast beef sandwich but in this one, it tasted just like the flank steak that comes with any good beef phở. The avocado lends a tad bit of creaminess that(along with the tomato) simulates the moisture that would come from a broth. Hoisin sauce, sriracha, cilantro, and bean sprouts all mirror the toppings. But the real thing that cinches the deal here is the Thai basil. The anise/licorice-y flavors of this herb really conjure up memories of the phở back in Houston. The only problem with this sandwich is that there isn’t enough of it. For the price, it’s a bit on the small side, but I guess that can be forgiven when a sandwich tastes as good as this. If I lived closer, I would definitely be eating here on a daily basis.

Let me join the chorus. Everything here is amazing. Just order anything– anything at all, and shove it in your food hole. You’re welcome. QUICKNOTE: It’s a deli, not a restaurant. There’s nowhere to sit.

Came here on a drunken night because my friend was raving about the phở sandwich. I couldn’t believe that a phở sandwich even existed. This is a must get sandwich. It has every taste you can imagine eating phở but in a sandwich. It can get a bit spicy so let the guys at the counter know. I decided to try again sober today and still enjoyed it. I’m definitely going to come back and try the rest of the sandwiches :)

convenience store? deli? grocery? idk… this joint’s like a Transformer – more than meets the eye. seewhatididthere the exterior of Sunny & Annie’s merchandises flowers. you can pick custom bouquets or the pre-arranged. there’s a large display of fruits: mostly citrus. and finally there’s a refrigerated area(outside) with salads and juices. as you walk-in there’s a large rack of snacky food like Doritos, SunChips, Smart Food Popcorn Etc. as you walk in, to the right is the cashier area which is surrounded by tons of candy and small snack food. to the left are ice cream freezers with pints of Ben & Jerry’s Haagen Daaz, and different ice cream bars. there’s also an ATM tucked in the corner. further in on the left is a refrigerated open cooler with cheese, meats, yogurts, and other quicky packaged food. all the way in the back of the grocery are a variety of coolers of beer, juices, sodas, energy drinks, sports, drinks etc. as you walk to the back there’s tons of different grocery and household items everywhere. there’s no piece of square footage that’s wasted here whether it be on the floor, on the wall, or hanging from the ceiling. this place is cramped with food and household items. it’s a bit claustrophobic in places and probably remind you of that elderly family member who was a HOARDER! the most famous part of Sunny and Annie’s is the deli/sandwich order area. there are a bunch of baked and packaged goods in front of the deli counter like muffins, rice krispy treats, etc. there are also two pots of piping hot soup: one is typically chicken noodle and the other is split pea or something creamy. the actual deli area is plastered with different signature sandwich from different types of PHO sandwiches which i highly recommend to ones named after politicians like Obama 2008, Bush, Kerry, etc. i never get the politician sandwiches bc most politicians are buttholes and i don’t eat buttholes… though i’ve heard people swear by the Joe Biden. lol. the chicken cutlet with bacon is a go-to of mine. the various wrap sandwiches are great… i really like the chikn salad with bacon and pepperjack. anyway there are a ton of signature sandwich choices. order the sandwich and move away from this are, so other people can order. your sandwich will be moved from the deli to the cashier area by the staff and then you can pay. also the basic breakfast sandwiches are good. keep in mind there’s no grill here so everything is being microwaved like the bacon and eggs. you were warned. the coffee is decent here bc there’s a high turnover of the pots and filters so you don’t get that watered down deli crap. then again if you want coffee in the area there are better options. like i’ve mentioned before, the space is packed to the gills with everything from those umbrellas that break in less than an hour to power cords to poptarts to sour patch kids. LATENIGHT: this place is typically mobbed during post drinking hours on Thurs, Fri, and Saturdays – drunken folks take a long time to order and pay or they are trying to buy cigarettes while they cry hysterically into their phones about their instagram getting hacked. drunkards also knock down stuff here constantly which makes me laugh. LUNCH to EVENINGHOURS: the store has a brisk flow and things move pretty fast. people with giant backpacks amuse me when they enter this place, smash into everyone, and knock things over… and then get pissed off when they are asked to leave or beat up outside by those who they shoulder-checked with their steroided-up LL Beans. these people ARETHEWORST! MORNING: smooth in and out. no worries. grab your coffee, paper, and bagel. shut up. pay. and leave. the staff here is short on words but nice enough. they don’t have a lot of time to chew the fat with you, but they will definitely help you if you are looking for a particular grocery item. drops mic and loses mic bc this place is crammed with too many things! argh i out. zzz.

A friend recommended this place to me. Before him, I had never heard of a phở sandwich before. According to him, it is like a banh mi but comprised of phở ingredients. Since we were nearby, I wanted to try the recommended sandwich. If I hadn’t heard about this place, I don’t think I would have ever found it. The rest of the place is a convenience store/grocery type of place. Phở #1($ 7.49) — roast beef, bean sprouts, basil, onion, cilantro, avocado, tomato, hoisin sauce, sriracha chili. According to the website, it is P.H.O. Real Sandwich. We ordered it cold, since we had already eaten and we were taking it to go. All the sauce and avocado made the roll soggy by the time we brought it home, unwrapped it and ate it. If I ever revisit this place I would like to try this sandwich hot & toasted. The roll is pretty good. Fresh bread is important for a proper sandwich. I enjoyed the sandwich altogether. I think it could really be more reminiscent of a bowl of phở with rice noodles marinated in beef broth. For this reason, I wouldn’t have even known this is a phở sandwich. I would have thought it was just a sandwich that had some Asian flavors with the marinated beef, bean sprouts, & hoisin. For $ 7.50, it’s not a bad price for this hefty-sized sandwich. One thing my crazy foodie friend noted is: They use Italian basil & not Thai basil, which is what you would normally find in phở. By the time he told me this, I had already finished my sandwich, so I couldn’t inspect the basil type. The rest of the sandwich menu looks very overwhelming. It is handwritten on a multitude of colorful letter-sized papers. I don’t get the names of some of the sandwiches. I thought the service was quite good too. They made our sandwich pretty quickly. They accept credit cards. They also offer free delivery. I’m most likely out of their delivery range, so I don’t know how fast they deliver. They are also open 24 hours. I have a lot of respect for any establishment that is open 24 hours a day. I always wonder, how the heck do they have time to clean the place and do inventory, etc?

I love this place. Who would have thought you could make a sandwich out of phở ingredients!!! Came through for a sandwich because a friend recommended this place. I can’t believe that it’s 24 hours. Imagine that! The bread was decent and the ingredients did have the right mixture of actual Phở ingredients, all melted together with the sriracha sauce. I loved it! Definitely coming back here for more! What a convenient way to make Phở portable. As a native Vietnamese, I loved how creative this idea is!

I order here often — there is a younger gentleman that is always polite and takes my order with care. My review is based off the service I receive from the older man that takes orders. He never fails to make a mistake, and whenever I call back to correct them, he gets incredibly angry with ME. Tonight, for example, I ordered 3 sandwiches and he only sent 2. I called and asked him to deliver the 3rd sandwich, and he said, «No, too late.» He refused to send another. For a business that delivers 24/7, that makes absolutely NO sense. To top it off, they overcharged us for the 2 they did deliver! Really frustrated with this establishment, especially due to the horrible service the older man has. He flat out argued with me over what I had ordered. Not sure how you miss the 3rd sandwich then claim I never asked for one after repeating it back to me.

I’ve been wanting to try the Phở 1 phở a long time. Phở 1 $ 7.49 — I decided to go with the Hot Phở 1. It smelled identical to the Phở you get at a Vietnamese restaurant. Next time I’ll go for the cold sandwich because the roast beef came well done(hot). The sandwich is spicy. If you like Phở in a bowl, you’re likely to enjoy the Phở 1. Friendly staff & open 24 hours. I’ll be back!

Sunny and Annie’s is open 24hrs giving you the chance of devouring this goodness all day, everyday! Had the Phở #4 the first time and the Phở #1. Phở #1 has roast beef, bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, avocado, tomato, onion, Hoisin sauce, and Sriracha sauce on a roll. And it all works amazingly well, yes, even with the bean sprouts. Phở #4 was with chicken and was a little dry on some parts, which made me love Phở #1 even more. But I did love the kimchi radish in the sandwich… if only they sold that alone! Perfect late night eat when you’re tired of Halal Guys and want to try something different. Writing about this place makes me crave it even more… See you there!

This is a Korean owned neighborhood corner deli and it’s been around for a pretty long time. It’s not a fancy pants LES gourmet sandwich shop, so don’t get your panties in a knot cause it’s kinda run down(just like any good bodega should be ;-P) and there’s nowhere to eat. Any sandwich you order from Sunny and Annie’s is gonna be good. The menu is fun and creative and they build good sandwiches. Personally my crack at this deli is the Phở #1, HOT, thank you very much ;-). All the flavors of phở bo on a roll. it’s seriously good, CAH-RAY-ZEE good! How do they do it?! Other awesome sandwiches worth a shout out — the Ali(I prefer the pork), MonaRisa, Journal(10,000), Kimchee Bulgogi, and the Sunny Breakfast… Mmmm I think I need a sandwich right now… ;-)

My first time here and the place is pretty small. The food is also very friendly and helpful with what to eat on your first try. I ended up trying the mona risa and it was yummy!

We ordered the Phở Real. Been here twice now. Our most recent trip was disappointing from what we originally had a few years ago. Loved the idea of a Phở sandwich. When we went to eat it, it was falling apart and the sauce wasn’t evenly distributed so we got random bites of Sriracha. A few things that I think would make this an amazing sandwich would be having a dipping sauce of the broth(similar to a French Dip) and also serving it on a baguette versus a kaiser roll.

If you think of this place as a specialty deli sandwich shop instead of a typical deli, this deserves it’s 5-star reputation. Amazing, unique combinations that actually work are rare for a NYC deli, especially given all the competition.

Great go to deli in the east village! Every time I have gone here no matter what time of the day there is a line for people ordering from the deli counter. They have a vast array of unique Heros, wraps, sandwiches. It is also all made right in front of you and can customize it. I have gotten the east side to ink which is hot roast beef with jalapeños, bacon, cheese and is my favorite. Another popular one that I get is the phở 2. It is very unique creation and you gotta take a look at my picture to see it. I will definitely be coming back to this deli in the future to pick up a quick sandwhich. The lady who works here could be a little nicer she always seems stressed out l!

Located in the heart of East Village, this is a small sandwich shop that’s nestled within a general grocery type store. There are no seating areas, the space to wait for your food is small, and there is a $ 10 min requirement if you use card. Parking is minimal(street parking), so I do recommend walking/busing to this place. Hearing about the rave of «phở sandwiches,» decided to make a stop here to try this item out. Overall, this is an awesome item. I love the concept of taking phở ingredients and throwing the items into a sandwich and making it taste like phở. For the sandwich, I ordered combo 1. With a mixture of the usual phở ingredients, avocado was the only new thing added into the mix. The taste overall, was very tasty. All the veggies were well balanced, giving the phở sandwich its authentic taste of onions, cilantro, and the sauces used(hoison and siracha) were the perfect way to finish the flavoring of phở. So imagine eating phở without the broth and noodles, and put that entire thing into a sandwich. It isn’t as hot(so feel free to chow down on that phở if you’re super hungry) and if you like bread more than noodles, this is a win win dish. I highly recommend trying out this place if you’re in the mood to try something new and creative.

I ordered the phở sandwich # 1. I mainly came for the novelty as phở is one of my favorite food. Who doesn’t love phở? After reading other ppl reviews and my curiosity got the best out of me as some ppl raved this is the best sandwich. Welcome to the hype machine of Unilocal reviews. It is a good sandwich, but there are a lot better sandwiches out there. The sandwich consists of many elements of a phở such as bean sprouts, basil, onion and hoysin sauce. It’s really asian fusion as the sandwich had roast beef, avocado and tomato. I wish it would have stayed closer to traditional phở. It was flavorful, but I felt feeling that I fell for a gimmick. It’s a good sandwich and worth trying if you’re in the immediate neighborhood, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to stop by.

What deli in the city do you know of serves a sandwich filled with toppings you’d typically find in a bowl of phở? This place. I’ve heard of this sort of sandwich before, but today was the day I finally got to experience it. I settled for the Phở 1 and Phở 4. Both sandwiches came with avocados, tomatoes hoisin sauce, siracha, and bean sprouts. Phở 1 was roast beef and Phở 4 was teriyaki chicken I believe. I kinda wished they’d also provide a container of soup with an order of the sandwich. But it’s all good. It was good anyways. Overall, I had a phở-king good experience and everything was tasty. I will definitely be back in the future to try the different kinds of sandwiches offered here.

The Phở #1 is incredible($ 7.99). I am at a loss for words… I’ve never had such an incredible sandwich and it was super eerie that it was so close to the real thing. You NEED to try this if you’re in the area. The food came out relatively quickly despite the line and the service was extremely friendly. The deli is a bit packed, but I didn’t mind too much as I was just here for the sandwich. A true hidden gem.

Read the reviews, was so excited for a reasonably priced deli! However, the prices were hiked at the register, and I was sadly disappointed. Tried 2 sandwiches on a Sunday morning: The Sunny($ 5): Mozzarella, greens, prosciutto, sun-dried tomatoes, egg, all on a croissant, and a Pastrami Hero($ 7.50). The Sunny was well-worth the price, but the sun-dried tomatoes threw off the sandwich for me personally. The Pastrami Hero was a bit of a let-down. I am used to delis piling on the meat with a Hero, but I got 2 – 3 slices of Pastrami, nothing more. They asked me if I wanted cheese, and I said sure, Provolone. Then, at the register, they charged me an extra $ 1.75 for 3 slices of cheese! Instead of the marked price of $ 5.75, I paid $ 7.50 plus tax. Also tried a corn muffin, which wasn’t bad. I’d come back and try one of their more popular sandwiches with the listed ingredients, instead of trying to build my own and being swindled.

This ISN’T your ordinary deli. This ISN’T your ordinary Korean deli. Heck, this ISN’T your ordinary sandwich. It’s all about the dead presidents y’all. Okay, maybe they aren’t all dead but presidents, yes. This seemingly random deli/grocery makes some badass sammiches y’all. Except for the Biden. If you love your stomach and your appetite, SKIPIT. NOTJOKING. But all others, I have no doubt they are amazing. DECOR/SPACE: SMALL. Local corner bodega small. FOOD: The sammiches are real good. I ordered the John Carry(*Kerry) sammich. Their typo not mines. It was so good that I regret not ordering a second one. F U Biden sammich. UGH. PRICE: A little on the pricey side. Quality speaks volumes. Open 24⁄7 also speaks very loudly. Convenience factor is located slightly off the beaten trail at Avenue B. But, if you are a power walker like me, this is just fine. Overall, great stuff. FAN. P. S.: They have a no photo snapping policy. As the Korean lady who I would assume is the store owner had said to me. Then I told her I was a Unilocal Elite. She got quiet after that. Moral of the story? Tell her Unilocal

Where to grub at 3AM after a fun night out in the city? The answer is SUNNY&ANNIE’S DELI! You’ll be getting a Vietnamese phở bowl in a sandwich form. Who’d ever think this typical NYC looking deli would make such a creative delicious sandwich?! Get the Phó #1 sandwich! Of course get it HOT. You’ve never had phở cold anyways nor is cold sandwiches usually that great. Once you open the packaging, the smell will instantly run up your nose and remind you exactly of a phở noodle soup bowl! Plus the ingredient when you bite in actually gives hints of flavor of it. There’s roast beef(mine was too well done compared to the more rare side that I usually like it… But it was still good), basil, onions, cilantro, avocado, tomatoes, bean sprouts(which we opted without it), hoisin sauce, and Sriracha. PHOKINGGREAT.
