The first week of May tested my patience in NYC. It felt more like March… rainy and cold. I wanted to cook for myself tonight and had a hankering for some comfort food. So I made a plan and dragged myself out of the apartment. Sonny’s was on the shopping list, which is up the street. I told the butcher my Saturday night plan of cooking myself a steak and hanging in alone. He brought out a beeeeeautiful prime rib and cut me the perfect-size steak. 12 ounces of pure heaven. I seared that bad-boy in butter and a bit of olive oil. Let it rest a few minutes. And… well. I think you should try doing what I did. The rest of the meal: Sautéed mushrooms in garlic and shallot. Salad of fresh arugula, shredded carrot, cherry tomatoes, parmesan, olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. Oh…and a nice Ribera del Duero. Heaven…I’m in Heaven… Thank you, SONNY’S!

There is a reason Sonny’s has been around so long. Great prices and Great cuts of meat. Sonny and his staff should make this a 6 star review.

Excellent selection, prices, and service. I used to buy my meats @ Trader Joes, Gristedes, etc., and then I finally took the plunge(I live around the corner) and stopped by Sonny’s. Been there twice and have not been disappointed. They slice and dice all my meats as I need them to be(I’d do it at home, but these guys are much better) and even package them up real nice like. Basically, they’ve got my business.

Excellent prices for quality meat. 4.69 for provalone, 6.99 for cold cuts, 1.69/lb for whole chicken, 4 for ground beef, 3 – 4 for bacon. They sell all types of meat and large cans for restaurants at a cheap price. Sometimes they run out of meat but I do come here for Ribeye and they always seem to have what I need.
