This place deserves more stars! A group of us from my training course came here for lunch and totally enjoyed it. I had the shrimp fajitas which was generous and delicious!

Went here for cinco de mayo after work with some coworkers. 4 of us got a table and orders drinks and appetizers. The waiters kept coming over to our table trying to rush is out since we didn’t order any dinner; however we were ordering multiple drinks. We had waiters asking us every 5 minutes if we were finished and they even took my friends drink and plate when she wasn’t even finished. Please do not waste your time or money here.

I ate here on a whim last night. I ordered the Sangria/good but over sweet. I also ordered the shredded pork quesadilla, it was huge and delicious. As others have said, prices too $$ for simple food, other than that, no complaints.

I could not finish my review last night as I was rushing to get out of there. My wife and I were very disappointed with this restaurant. We didn’t do our usual due diligence in vetting the business before going. In fact, we liked the name of the restaurant and went on that to check it out. After all, how back could it be if it was being recommended by The Public Theater. How wrong we were. Things started pleasantly with the waiter greeting us with menus and asking us about drinks. We ordered and as we looked over the menu, saw that there weren’t really many vegetarian options available. We’re used to this and tried to look around on how to side step that issue. Since we go to a lot of Mexican restaurants, we’re pretty good at that but we also didn’t see any vegetarian dish and looked for a way to create one. We came across chimichangas that actually had a vegetable option. I discussed with my wife wishing there was a vegetable burrito(Mexican restaurant owners… this is a hint-lol). It dawned on me at THAT moment that I did not remember what a chimichanga was. For some reason, I kept thinking in terms of it being a burrito(in all the times we’ve been to Mexican restaurants recently, we’ve never ordered one-yes that’s sad!). Embarrassed, when the waiter came to take the order, I had to ask what a chimichanga was. He explained,(he was still being nice at that time) and we decided to go that route. So we thought we were all set. Unfortunately, that’s when the«fun» began. Another waiter brought out tortilla chips and salsa. After taking a couple of chips, we realized the salsa was VERY hot. My wife flagged down the waiter and asked if there was one that was not so hot. His response? No, sorry that’s it.(He starts to walk away) «Oh well, that’s Mexican». WHAT! Where the hell did THAT comment come from! Both my wife and I were horrified by the comment, so much that it took us until 2 hours AFTER we left to talk about it. What was being implied by that comment? Why was it necessary? We decided to make the best of the situation. After all, while it wasn’t the greatest situation to eat chips without the salsa since we both love salsa and chips, we figured we’d make due. It was during this time that my wife said to me we may have forgotten to mention no mushrooms. When we saw him pass, I asked him what vegetables were inside the chimichanga and he gave us a list which included mushrooms. I informed him then that I was allergic to mushrooms, apologized for not telling him because I didn’t think they would be in there and before I finished the sentence, he ran into the kitchen. When he came back he said they had been in the middle of making the dish and therefore had to start again without the mushrooms so it would be a little while. We didn’t mind the wait since this happened because we didn’t know what was in the dish and they had to prepare it again. Keep in mind, we ordered ONE dish to share between the two of us(as we do all the time) because two dishes would be too much food. A few minutes later, another waiter comes out with two dishes. We advised the waiter that brought it out there was only supposed to be one dish. Our original waiter came by and we reiterated our conversation with him. He seemed to be upset about this although to his credit, he didn’t actually SAY anything. We then started to eat. Three bites in, I saw something in the chimichanga. What did I get? Mushrooms. For us, that was the final straw. What this waiter needed to know is this could have been a great review. The flavor of the chimichanga was good. We weren’t happy about the chips and salsa but that could be over looked. But it was his arrogance and pretentious behavior, assuming we knew nothing about Mexican food and possibly Mexican people, and his lack of attention to detail that made this a «never going there again» moment. So this is why there is one star. There are so many other GREAT Mexican restaurants and cantinas out there(One that comes to mind is Margarita’s Café), that you do have to suffer this type of behavior. It is my hope that the owners read this review and change behavior. It could be a fun place.

Omg, why is this place so expensive? The quality does not merit it. Be reasonable, caballeros.

Absolutely poor fajita. Meal side dish of refried beans was a brown paste. Imagine eating a brown melted crayon. No flavor in their rice. I would recommend severe improvement. The Sangria was quite good. I would avoid.

The food was really good. The service was amazing. They kept on checking on us but not in an annoying way. They were all really nice and the $ 5 margaritas are so worth it. They are really strong so beware but they definitely are not stingy with their alcohol. My husband ordered the big burrito with pepper steak and he really liked it. I got the camarones al Diablo and let me tell you, they were delicious.

Yum! I ordered the cantina chicken and it was a good sized portion with veggies and a delicious mango tequila salsa. My friend ordered a dish that was a little too spicy and they were very polite giving her another dish. Good margaritas and a chill atmosphere. Our waiter was very nice and attentive.

Not such a good meal at all :-( The guacamole($ 13) was wonderful :-) but that’s where«wonderful» came to an end. The poblano burger($ 18) that was supposed to be medium was burnt to a crisp. The pollo a la plancha($ 21) was way overcooked as was the rice accompanying it. The waiter was not very attentive and the manager tried to be apologetic and at first offered us a free dessert but eventually reduced our bill. Save your time and money … Way overpriced for poor quality food.

Went here today after seeing an ad in a playbill and the comments made in this as sounded promising. Turns out those people were sadly mistaken. Service The service was very poor. To start we ordered some guacamole and chips while we were deciding what to eat and after seeing two other tables get there food before us, obviously they didn’t get it right. Our food came out and there was no guacamole. Food The food was just as bad as the service. The chicken in the tacos were cold and bland. Not to mention dry as well. The steak in the beef fajitas was absolutely awful. Tasted like it had been left sitting out for quite awhile and there was something off about the taste of it as well. After letting our server know, nothing had been done. We talked to a different server and then the manager kindly took 50% off the check. Needless to say a few minutes after leaving the food was not settling right. Now I’m spending a night in bed feeling terrible all because of the food served at this place. Do not waste your time with this restaurant!

My roommate and I came by in the afternoon on Cinco de Mayo… it was super humid inside, so we requested a seat outdoors… which was right on a busy sidewalk with a bunch of people walking right next to you while you eat. That was a weird feeling. we were so close. I ordered a steak dish and tacos. and a side ofguacamole and chips. The guacamole was good, but the portion was extremely small and disappointing. We had to order another one. The food here is pretty good, they were a bit stingy on the rice portion… that was more disappointing. What threw us off was that there were peas and carrots in the rice. at a mexican place? weird to see that. The margaritas were good . they had a shot girl walking around. we bought a shot each for $ 8. The total bill came out to about $ 135. I’d return — the staff were polite and attentive.

Sombrero didn’t have a wait when we were looking for a dinner without reservations along 8th Avenue. So, when we sat down and ordered a pitcher of Sangria until our final dinner mate arrived, I took a few minutes to read the Unilocal reviews, and began to experience a small bout of buyer’s remorse. I suppressed the urge to bolt, and accepted my fate. Besides, the Sangria was cool and fruity going down, and my friends seemed happy with our spot. The Chips and Salsa were amply fresh, crunchy and spicy. Our waiter was cordial and attentive and made helpful suggestions as we ordered. We started with the Traditional Guac. It was chunky, smooth and delicious. We all considered ordering more of it, but were committed to the rest of our meal to come. Our main courses consisted of Beef Chimis, Chicken Quesadilla, and Grilled Chicken with a fruity sauce(forgot the name). All were good to very good, although the Chicken was a bit dry. The atmosphere of the place was pleasant and had a reddish/pink cast due to the brightly painted walls. I found everything to be decent, although not the best Mexican I ever had. That honor goes to a little place in Tucson.

Half a star for the unique guava margarita and another half star for the delicious guac trio. But honestly what sup with our waitress’ attitude? I thought at first it was a language barrier when it comes down to her explaining the menu and the available margarita flavors — but then I realized she’s just full of unnecessary sass. Upon seating and as we wait for the last person in my party to arrive, our waitress came to us three times hurrying us to order even though we told her we wanted to wait for the last person before deciding. When it came to deciding on the drinks, she wouldn’t stop pushing us to get the bullpit? Margarita special? When we refused and wanted to go with something else, she told us literally almost every flavor on the menu was not available. When we pushed for it again, she finally said guava and a few more flavors were all of a sudden included in the«we have» group. Ultimately we decided on a pitcher of guava margarita on the rock(which happened to be poured into exactly 5 cups for the 5 of us — no more no less). Aside from drinks, we went on to order the guac trio which included fruit guac, chipotle guac and traditional guac. The fruit guac consisted of mostly mango just as I expected — a hint of sweetness and quite refreshing. The chipotle guac had a nice spicy kick to it. The traditional guac had chunks of fresh cubed avocado. Honestly these guacamoles were some of the best guacs I’ve had in the city! Too bad when we asked for another basket of tortilla chips with the bus boy, the waitress stormed up to our table and told us that it would be an additional $ 7 charge. The guac trio was already $ 21, I guess I will just spoon and lick the remaining guac? In the end, totally wasn’t surprised by the automatic gratuity charge for the 5 of us when we received the bill. We just hurried, paid, and never looked back. Honestly, no matter how yummy the drinks and food were — def not worth putting up with the waitress’ attitude.
