Great food and fantastic service! The manager and staff are always accommodating whether you are in a rush or are enjoying a leisurely meal. The soba is always delicious and the sushi is super fresh. Love this place!

Came here after a long day at museums and was looking for a low-key Japanese place for dinner near where we were at the time. The food is noticeably geared toward the non-asian business-lunch crowd. Terriyakis and tempura everything. The soba noodles were good, but the soups/sauces accompanying the soba was incredibly salty. That could be because the soup base is soy sauce, but I would’ve liked the saltiness dialed down a bit so that I could enjoy the soup part a bit too. The décor and menu remind me of the 80s and 90s, as if they got some recognition back then from a food critic and hasn’t changed anything since.

It has only been 2 visits and I kinda love this place already. Good food, clean environment, decent price and you gotta try nameko cold soba or tororo hot soba.

I went to lunch with my sister, Jamie. They should stick with the Soba and shelve the sushi and sashimi which was plain and less than uneventful. The place smells like soba. $ 100 for lunch for two… ain’t worth it.

I came here with a colleague for lunch and I was less than pleased. Maybe i messed up by not ordering a soba dish, but I was in the mood for sushi. First they don’t even give you a sushi menu when you sit down; I had to ask and they didn’t have eel, squid and one other fish, oh okay. Second my colleague hadn’t even sat down yet and they were pestering us for our drink order; I know it’s lunchtime in midtown but really not necessary. Third, the spicy tuna roll was not your average spicy tuna roll. It was basically a regular tuna roll with hot pepper oil drizzled on top. Very weak in my book. Best thing I had was the miso soup. Will definitely not be back.

I actually thought the prices were in Japanese Yens or something because it said 29. I even asked the waitress if that was the price or something else. I couldn’t believe that farmed salmon lunch special can be 29 $, and it tasted no better than in every other Chinese restaurant… But it was warm inside so that deserves at least one star which I’m giving :)

Great hot soba noodles. Not salty at all! The chicken is very high quality too. The seaweed salad comes with a few different kinds of seaweed, all very different, but very yummy! Highly recommend this spot!

Quick service & food is pretty good but nothing really memorable. Pricier for soba. Good place for a quick bite.

Excellent restaurant! The service is kind and quick, and the food is delicious. The soba is fresh and very authentic, tastes just like it did in Japan. The menu is large and has something for everyone. I had the chicken yakitori and zaru soba. The chicken was delicious and flavorful, and the soba was very refreshing and tasty at the same time. Meal is served with matcha which is greatly appreciated. 100% returning again.

Stopped in here with a group of 4 for dinner before heading to Radio City. The restaurant was clean and peaceful and service was very good. I ordered the tan tan tsukemen with soba noodles. The noodles were cooked really well and the soup was delicious. We especially enjoyed the mochi ice cream for dessert! My only issue is with the prices. Their food was 4 stars for me but after factoring in the cost I would probably only give them 3 stars.

Delicious! The beef curry special was flavorful yet not overbearing on the spice ness. Also got the spicy tuna roll which was tasty. The staff are very friendly and hyper-responsive. The authentic green tea added a nice touch to the meal as well. The menu does not look very extensive but don’t let that fool you. Highly recommend the place if you’re looking to try authentic Japanese food!

One of my favorite go to places for lunch. Good service & great food. They definitely focus a lot on quality of the food(they have their own buckwheat farm in Canada) and fresh taste.

What a pleasant surprise! I’ve walked by here countless times, but never felt obliged to come in for one reason or another. However, after eating a mad greasy meal at Totto Ramen for lunch, the thought of a refreshing cold soba meal on a hot evening really appealed to me. The place is sort of like a time warp back into the 80’s. This joint reminds me of an old Japanese restaurant I used to frequent 20 – 30 years ago. The place is clean, the service is decent and the restaurant has a relaxing vibe. The only drawback is the overall décor simply feels dated and the bathrooms(while clean) are also old. In terms of the food, I was pleased with my order. I decided to get the Tenzaru Soba(essentially it’s cold soba with a side of tempura) and it was a solid choice. The noodles were fresh and the texture was just right. The tempura was fluffy and not particularly greasy, which is what I expected from a place that charges you $ 24 bucks for the aforementioned dish. My only compliant would be that the portions are fairly small relatively to the price you pay. However, since this place has its own buckwheat farm in Canada, I guess we’re paying a premium for that. All in all I’d come back here again, even if the price is a bit hefty. The food is good and I felt very relaxed dining in this Japanese time capsule of a restaurant. Just be warned, if you’re coming here hungry — plan on ordering more than less.

We had a very decent experience at Soba Nippon. They were able to seat our table of 5 right away despite the fact that we had no reservation(although we did get a bit of an admonishment from someone who may have been the manager). The food was quite decent. I had the agadashi tofu soba, a large slice of tofu fried tempura style and floating in a fish broth with a lot of soba noodles. It was a little bland, but a good amount of food. All entrees were on the expensive side($ 18 for tofu soba, $ 24 for a salad) but you certainly do get generous helpings. Service was just fine, and food was just fine. The fact that they make their own noodles from their own buckwheat farm is pretty cool, but I wasn’t blown away by any of the food in particular.

Soba is probably one of my favorite Japanese food, so I always look around to search for best soba place near where I work. Essen does provide soba, yet it is the soup version so it doesn’t really count. Decided to give a try at Soba Nippon as here the soba was made of buckwheat planted in Canada. They provided a variety of soba choices, either hot or cold, either with tempura, with poached egg, or mushroom. I also enjoyed the appetizer salmon a lot. One minor point is that their soba was not soft enough and probably a little to the sticky side… not as good as Sobaya in East village, but good enough for a second-time visit.

Come here for the cold soba chicken salad, the best I’ve ever had! Tasty noodles, generous portions and good miso soup and tea to accompany the meal. Great for a quick lunch midtown east for a japanese experience that’s not sushi.

Stopped in for lunch with clients and ordered the sashimi. Came with possibly the best miso soup I have had in a very long time. The soup was flavorful and rich with just the right amount of scallions, seaweed and tofu. The salad was also very good as it was obviously a homemade sesame dressing and not the usual bottled ginger dressing. The sashimi was fresh and came with a nice assortment; tuna, salmon, yellow tail, sea scallops, octopus, squid and fluke. All were perfectly cut and very tasty. Service was attentive and accommodating. Only drawback is they are very expensive for what you get. I understand it is midtown but the prices did not see in line with other sushi restaurants in the area.

Had the(hot) Yamaimo Soba for lunch, which comes with a side salad and two inari-sushi. I thought the service and ambience were both above average. The broth for the soba and the noodles themselves were good but not standout.

Kind of disappointed. The broth was way too salty. Noodles were cooked well. The home made tofu with yuzu salt was delicious and the only memorable part. Ambience, service, and food were bland.
