Cheap chinese snackery on a cart. Much like the ones in Brooklyn chinatown. I’ll enjoy some fishy balls on a stick with a line of hoisin while I walk the streets. You can also get fried chicken and some other things I’m not sure I’d try from a food cart. But flash fried fish balls are good enough for my dollar! My friend, the local, says that this operation has no seemingly set hours and has been in business for a while. We caught them on a weekday evening. Its all a matter of convenience and spontaneous eating!

This food cart has been around forever, and they definitely are one of the best deals in the city. I know my Chinatown food carts, and these guys make some of the tastiest street fare out there. My favorites are their vegetable mei fun and their fried spring rolls. I do have to say that I do feel kind of gross after eating their stuff though, so while I do live nearby, I don’t stop by very often.(Please note that nothing is truly vegetarian there since the oil used to cook the fried chicken is used for the noodle items as well.)

I have passed this cart many many times. At times there is a line. It is VERY shady looking. It is almost as if they just decided to start cooking on the side of the street. Although I hear they have been there for a long time. Honestly, I have allays been kinda scared to eat there, just because you never know what you’re getting or how it will go after when eating at some roadside cart. All that said, I was VERY impressed how good the food was! I had the rice and lo mein and could not believe how fresh and delicious it tasted.

The best noodles for $ 1.25! I’ve been going here daily, sometimes more, since I’ve moved to Chinatown. He even gives you a fork. Great place to grab a bite to and from the subway. Seem to be open at least from 3pm — 8pm daily. Then it disappears for the night. Only to reappear the next day. Like the sun. $ 1.25!

Not by any means a healthy place to eat, but the food is always good. It’s been around for god knows how long, and the owner just opened up(a new one) another shop on Henry & Madison St. Very consistent food, and satisfying! SOOOOCHEAP!

Don’t Go Here Shing’s Food Shop is not exactly a shop, it’s a stainless steel pushcart decorated with flattened cardboard boxes. I don’t want you to go here because you’ll overwhelm it. This is one of the great things left about New York, like Yonah Schimmel, corner pizza joints and claustrophobic hardware stores. The place sells about six different things, most all are under $ 1.50(yep). They include delicious Vegetarian Mai Fun, Lo Mein, Chicken Wings and Drumsticks and some sort of balls on a stick. Granted it’s for the kids at the PS next to it, but as a pit stop while trolling the Catherine Street area of Chinatown, it’s a no-fooling street-side oasis. The twenty something heir-apparent who is the front man(while mom and dad churn out food in the back) is the hardest working man in Lo business. It’s like watching Lucy eating chocolates off the conveyor belt a little, except he doesn’t miss a beat. Remember, don’t go here.
