I had a bad hair experience tonight which made me recall another bad experience, in September, that I had at this establishment. The woman who works there(Marcy) cannot do black hair. She will say she can. She can’t. If you have hair like a biracial(black/white) person you may be okay… I don’t really know. But there is such a lack of professionalism that it is not worth the risk. I was yanked and pulled every which way. When I said I wanted straight hair she said something to the effect of «Why? You’re not Chinese.» I found some of the experience funny, some of it offensive, and some of it uncomfortable. In the end, my hair definitely didn’t look like I wanted. I took consolation in the fact that I only paid $ 40, which is cheap for this area, and in the fact that I never *ever* have to go again.

I’ve been coming here since I moved to New York City and every single time have had my expectations met or exceeded when I received a haircut, shave, or color. Kathy and Giovanni are warm, friendly, and always remember the exact look you are going for to make you leave with a smile. The store itself is modern and still has a bit of that old-school NYC charm which is missing from the neighborhood. Hopefully, Ill be coming here until I start losing my hair, at which time(heaven forbid) I’m sure they will come up with a creative style to make me look great :).

NASTY and RUDE. Let me preface by saying they were so intolerable that I didn’t even make it into the salon! I first got scolded for spending too much time on the phone with them just for asking a few very simple questions like when their latest appt time was and do they except cards. Then, having lived in the city for four years, this snarky and rude woman named Marcy, proceeded to interrogate me because my area code was a NJ area code and my voice sounded young. I had to answer a series of questions about my age and what I do for a living and though so confused, I spoke calmly and rationally explaining my life story in order to get my hair blown out. Then our call broke up… and because of this, me the crazy youngster was playing DEFINITELY playing a prank on her and despite my efforts I was denied an appointment for the youthfulness of my voice. Honestly, the most bizarre experience I’ve ever had with a nail salon and I urge to go somewhere else.

Joe is an excellent barber. He pays attention to detail and remembers your preferences. He always does a great job.

Joe is the man. Don’t let anyone tell you different. I feel honored to have found such an incredible barber and would highly recommend to anyone.

Joe tried to use a used razor on me while shaving. REALLY? Come on that’s a big no no. Seriously overcharging for the quality of work. Will NOT go back.

Received a haircut from«joe» this past weekend, he totally butchered my hair. I specifically told him not to go short and he still did. Do not recommend

As a NYU grad student this is the best deal around this hood. Don’t need a $ 50 barber when I can get my fade done just fine by Giovanni for $ 10(plus tip of course) on Mondays and Tuesdays. Regular pricing for non-students is still exceptional.

Come in ask for Steve, I read all the reviews and still gave this place a chance. Low and behold it’s my favorite spot for a haircut. At first I thought its a salon for women but they have barbers for men too. Price is very cheap especially if your an NYU student they give you an additional discount.

In the past, I have flown from London to get my haircut by Marcy. Now I live in the city and she is my dream hairdresser ! I have a ton of long, thick, wavy hair that Marcy knows how to tame and shape. She never tries to make my hair something it’s not and she is quick ! A million dollar Farrah Fawcett haircut for 30 dollars !

As a small hair salon, Salon G sure is a hit as a «hole in the wall» in the TriBeCa neighborhood. The hair stylists there are very understanding of your needs and make sure you get exactly what you want from every visit. Whether is it a hair dye job, a hair cut or a blow out, the stylist at Salon G makes sure that every customer is happy as they leave the place. The price is also what makes this place great. Most affordable places don’t do a very good job but Salon G is definitely an exception. The price and quality of the work they do here is incredible. I would highly recommend making your next hair appointment here!

All depends on who you use. Been getting my haircut from Giovanni for 4 years now since I was in grad school at NYU. All my friends use him too. Never a bad cut!

John: Does a tremendous job on my hair. Old-school italian barber, who won’t chew your ear off but gives me some of the best hair cuts I’ve ever had. Cathy: great job on coloring(for us pre-maturely graying young men) and for a great price. Yes they don’t take take appointments, but I show up during the week days anyway.

Agreed, if 0 stars were able to be given-I would give. I walked in because the prices looked decent but once inside it looked just a taaaad sketchy. I asked the woman who came up to me how much it would be for a wash and blow out. She pulled a piece of my hair out from under my hat and said, «The woman who does YOUR kind of hair isn’t here today. Sorry.» Ummmm.Ok!!! Now, I could over-analyze this but definitely not worth the energy. Nor will I waste my energy ever thinking about going back.

I have been going to Salon G to see Cathy(formerly of Infinity) who has been doing my hair for over 15 years. I am always happy with the haircut/style she gives me and the blowout lasts forever… with no flat iron used. I also notice that my haircut keeps the lines for quite a few months before I have to go back. I have been to other stylists who were far more expensive, but I always come back to Cathy. Love her and her work.

I went to Marcy several times. Don’t know if she’s still there, but stay away from her if she is! I had hit-and-miss cuts, awful highlights, and she is nuts! Extremely emotional and dramatic(don’t know if she drinks or what), and I used to wait FOREVER to see her. Then I tried making appts., and that didn’t work out either. After so much hysteria and hit and miss cuts, I simply had to stop going there.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I had never been to this place before, but after reading some decent reviews, I decided to give it a try. I’m also a student, so their cheaper prices definitely caught my attention. I decided to call ahead to make an appointment: my first call was at 10:53am. «Cathy» answered, and sounded genuinely pleased about the call. Later, at 12:38pm, I called them again to add another appointment for my friend, who also wanted to get her hair cut. This time a man answered, and after getting I got this information across, he told me: «Yeah, just come whenever you’re free.» This set me back a bit; does this salon not usually get very many customers? Is that why their hair stylists are always open? A few minutes later, I realized that there was no point in waiting until 5:30pm to get our haircuts, when my friend and I were both free at that time for a couple of hours, and all we both wanted was just a simple trim. I called again, at 12:41pm, and this is how our conversation progressed(«Cathy» answered again): Her: «Salon G, how may I help you?» Me: «Hi, I have an appointment later today at 5:30, but – « Her: «Is this a joke?» Me: «…Excuse me?» Her: «Is this a joke? You’ve called, like, five times already today.» **Long pause** Me: «…No, this is not a joke. I was planning on getting my hair cut tonight, and was wondering if you would actually be able to see me now. But, never mind…» Her: **Hangs up the phone.** I legitimately stared at my phone in disbelief for five minutes after that conversation was abruptly ended. This is the same person some of you reviewers believe do a «wonderful job» or whatever on your hair. I would never trust these people with my hair, and neither should you… Although I realize I may have called an excessive amount(THREETIMES), she provided extremely poor customer service, and unreasonably jumped to conclusions. I never did end up getting my hair cut here — that 27-second conversation deterred me from ever having anything to do with this place again. There are DEFINITELY better places in the area to get your haircuts at than this place. If you know what’s good for you, and your hair, STAYAWAY.

I also strongly recommend Cathy to guys who like to keep their hair simple and trendy. She has been cutting my hair for 17 years since 1992. Cathy is now @ Frank’s Hairstylist, just a block away!(231 Thompson Street)

those other two reviews must be «friends» of the«loca latina». The woman shouldnt be with in 50 ft of a salon. Even a kitchen barber is a step up. I should have known it was a bad idea when she started yelling at someone who came in to discuss the disaster she did on the womans head. She basically yelled at the top of her lungs(while im sitting there gettign a haircut) and tells the woman(who came in to discuss what she isnt happy with) «Ju don’ like it, don’ com bak» I mean really people. Should this be accepted ANYWHERE???

«You have beautiful hair! Beautiful! Too much, but beautiful!» Come if you want an ego boost for a day, but a mediocre haircut for a couple weeks.
