A color by Ryan is as good as it gets! He’s got a knack for knowing exactly what I need without me having to explain — and he nails it every time. Highly recommend — he will not disappoint!

I saw Zhen for a Brazilian Blowout and he was great! I had a bit of trouble understanding him at times but he did a great job on my hair. The treatment was quick and left my hair with soft waves. It only lasted 2.5 months though so if you have coarser hair, i would recommend getting a stronger treatment.
The salon is beautiful and upscale. It is kept clean and decorated nicely. I would definitely return. To note, it is pricey but you get what you pay for.

I came to this salon expecting to have a professional hair cut and hair color. But when your co-​workers and family members ask you if you colored and trimmed your hair yourself you know how bad your hair turned out.

Ryan Slowey does the best color I’ve had in NYC! As a model, I went to all the best salons: Cutler, Louis Licari, Bumble & Bumble, Arrojo etc. No one came close to the vibrant and deep red that Ryan created. I have a red base with blond high-​lights and rich red low-​lights; my request was not easy. But Ryan created a masterpiece! Everywhere I go, people comment on how gorgeous my hair is! I feel like a rock star. I have gone back to Ryan several times now and he is consistently wonderful. And he is a sweetheart on top of it! Highly, highly recommended!

I just went today for the first time and I love the experience the staff and hairstylists are super friendly and nice they are very attentive to you and want you to feel comfortable and relax, got a super relaxing hair wash that omg just made me want to fall asleep amazing salon and service loved it I highly recommend it!

This salon caters to the 50+ women. I am not in that category. I had my long hair cut here into layers when all I wanted was a little trim by a guy that was on a reality tv show which I didn’t know until I sat in his chair… Tabatha’s take over… He went on to tell me about it… I was mortified… The more I learned of his prior experience… I only went to him because the colorist recommended him for my type of hair. Seems he was hired as a favor to someone. Needless to say I found out he was let go from the salon. No shocker there. I never went back to the colorist because she shouldn’t have been recommending «the new guy» just so he could drum up business, she should have cared about her clients needs and wants. On another note… Nikki is a great stylist here and I’ve seen her do great extension work, one of the owners, Kao is an amazing hair stylist.

I’ve been there twice and both times Zhen did my hair. The first time he did a brazilian blowout and he was awesome. He’s polite and quiet (which I appreciate) and it was very apparent that he was deep into his work, concentrating and taking it very seriously. My hair turned out great! Funny thing was he told my I had an awful cut, far too many layers for my thin hair, and he asked that I come back to see him for a cut next time.
So, about a year later I decided to go back and see Zhen for a cut, and he remembered me! He did a great job and my hair does feel so much fuller now! I am about 6 weeks post cut now and it still looks great.
The only reason I only give the place 4 stars, has nothing to do with Zhen (he gets 5!), but more to do with the salon. It’s got a more mature vibe and and feels a little «weathered.» Feels like a Mom’s salon, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I like flashier, louder, hipper salon environments.

Color by izabela. Cut and blow out by Mika — and they changed my life!!! Amazing results! $$$ though, but I feel like a million bucks!

Love the service at AKS. Everyone is extremely nice and helpful. I have been a client for over 10 years and have been very happy with my color and cut. Carolyn and Hadar are amazing! They are talented and always do a great job! I would recommend AKS to everyone.

Absolutely horrible experience. I went to get my bad streaky highlights fixed by Selma and walked out of there with a yellow bright brassy head of hair. I talked to the manager, Michelle & she said there was nothing to be done unless I signed a waver because my hair is so damaged it could fall out at this point & she sent me home with some deep conditioner samples. I traveled 2 hours to the city from long island and wasted hundreds of dollars. My cut was decent, the blow-​dry was whatever, but the COLOR was the absolute worst. She didn’t even tone it after it was bleached, they just used a clear glaze. NEVER coming here ever again in my LIFE!!!

First time at this salon and I was very pleased. Ryan did my color and highlights and was the best I have had in a long time, he took his time and wanted to be sure I was happy with the results and I WAS! I will definitely return!

I see Ryan slowey and he is my absolute fave! Fabulous. If you don’t have a colorist– go to him!

Drew’s haircut really hit it out of the park. The women are on me like crazy after this pristine, crisp, and elegant haircut. Her angling was impeccable. I have an unordinary round head. She was able to angle my hair so the roundness dissipated and people can focus on my clean appearance.
Not to mention her shampoo, let me tell you, she’s very thorough. I’ve never felt more relaxed and my hair has never looked in such mint condition. Ladies and gentlemen, if you’re looking for a quality (future) stylist that is capable of giving you the best look in town, look no further than Drew. She’ll make you look elegant, so much so that the only thing you have to worry about is the gym. Get ready to have the most attractive hair in NYC, which is really hard with so much competition, but she makes it happen.

I have difficult, thick, wavy/​frizzy hair that only looks good after a pro blow-​out. Sadah gave me an edgy polished haircut that even I can make look good! She listens, she get it and is really dedicated to giving you exactly what you want. The best!

Nyre is a gem. She even managed to hide previous hairdresser’s bad dye job thru deft trimmimg. I’ll be back!

Mika, hair stylist, is the BEST!!! My haircuts are always perfect. Even when I ask for a new style, she gets it right away and then does it! Perfectly!
Shampoos here are amazing. They take their time and they massage your neck and head. Soooo relaxing.

Avoid. It’s very hit-​or-​miss, so I got a few good experiences as well as a few bad ones before I gave up. In the end, this place really comes down to posers charging high prices thinking it makes them high stylists. They’re not. This is just a very cold place.

After my usual salon messed up my highlights (my pre-​wedding highlights, so I was very specific about what I wanted) I came to Jaleh because she had so many good reviews.
She did a fantastic job and actually listened to how I wanted my hair too look in my wedding photos. Stacy was also really sweet and did a nice blow-​out.

I have been going to Salon AKS since it opened. No one can make me look as good as Alain. I moved to California back in ’95 yet would fly back to get my hair cut every few months. Really — I just need to ask him to make me look good and he does. We have wonderful conversations and I leave looking great.
If you want to have a wonderfully relaxing experience — and leave looking the best you ever have — go see Alain and his team!
Luckily I moved back to NY 2 years ago and can now just take the subway.
