Safelite AutoGlass

Made an appointment for 8−12AM at home. At 11.30 I had to call to find out where the technician was, discovered he wouldn’t arrive until 1−2PM at the earliest. Not sure what the point of making the appointment was. Customer service rep didn’t offer anything to make up for the missed appointment except to make another appointment with no promise they would show up when scheduled. Like dealing with time warner cable.

They replaced the windshield in one hour. However, when I made the appointment the clerk said they would be able to transfer the NYS car inspection. After my glass was repaired the sticker said VOID. they gave me a phone number to call to get my inspection replace for two dollars and that it would be done in the mail that would take time. In the meantime, it is illegal to have a void sticker. I had to go to a New York State section the same day and get an inspection or risk a ticket. That is, if they had warned me when I made the appointment for two dollars and then save time and money. I want the money I wasted for new sticker refunded by safelight. My time they can’t replace!

I had a much better experience with the mobile technician than with the 54^th Street shop, who were rude and arrogant to me when I drove in with a smashed in back window, ordering me (and not in a courteous way) to leave the shop and book an appointment online.
The mobile tech, Juan, did a beautiful job replacing my back window and was pleasant to deal with.
So: 1 for the 54^th Street shop, 4 for Juan, the average is 3.

I needed to get my window shield replaced. I was surprised when my insurance company directed me to a place in Manhattan. I was more surprised that this was one of the more efficient automotive repair experiences I’ve ever had. I got their early and they were able to take me. They were done in under half an hour.

How do you install the wrong glass? Had me waiting 30 minutes even after setting up appointment. After the 2 ½ hour installation I found out they installed the wrong glass. After explaining the situation to the manager who wasn’t to keen on listening to what I had to say he realized there was a mistake only after I asked him to inspect the vehicle. The aftermarket glass installed did not support my heads up display. I was told he’d make it right. He didn’t. After not hearing from anyone for a week about replacing the glass with OEM glass approved by my insurance company I contacted them directly to resolve the problem. I eventually gave up with the Astoria location and decided to try the Manhattan location for better results. I’ll be posting my review on their location next. I believe the technicians are good guys but this company is far from what’s advertised. I think it’s the large insurance companies that recommend these guys is keeping them in business. Not a good idea taking a luxury car here.

While they couldn’t come to my location until a week later (apparently a lot of window dings lately in this winter), this location wasn’t too far from me (on the way home from work) and got up to the door, they let my car in (about room for 5 – 6 cars total if no movement) and they started the work with the GEICO paperwork quickly in-​hand. My whole windshield was going to be replaced.
Upstairs the wait room with a TV, some magazines, a bathroom (important) and a coffee maker (great, but I don’t drink coffee…). It’s a little boring up there, and the wifi has some instability, but overall it was a seamless process. They almost forgot my parking garage sticker, but the guy was quick to move it.
Took about 1.5 hours total. I worried they wouldn’t get my after-​market adjustments on the rear-​view installed properly, but hey, they managed to get it on without too much difficulty.
Simple and effective, though difficult to exit the garage around commuting hour… lots of traffic ironically that day on the street that you have to back out of (and a lot of pedestrians that want to walk behind the car).

My experience with this company has been horrible. First, their service guy was 6 hours late. Yes, he did call after being 1 hour late. Then he replace my windshield and it was not put in correctly. I was hearing a whistling sound and he also dented the side of my car. I had to make another appointment with this company to replace the windshield. Another technician came but he did not bring all the parts. Finally, a third time a technician came to my work and replaced the windshield.
Now about the dent. I spoke to their customer service, I faxed her a bill for my dent. I asked their customer service to email or call me when they received the fax. No response at all.
It is now over a month. My car still has a dent and after speaking with another person in your customer service I was told I would have to wait and see.
This is totally unacceptable.

Geico sent me and my broken windshield to these guys. I couldn’t have asked for a better, more seamless experience. In and out in 75 mins. No issues with the windshield stickers. They even doled out a free air freshener. These guys are pros.

Courteous, efficient, and right on schedule. Handled both the insurance and the sticker transfer with a smile!

Was not pleased with my experience here.
I set up an appointment through my insurance company (Geico), was told what time my appointment was, how long it would take for the repairs, etc. When I arrive at the location, I am told that they cannot service my vehicle, as they were closing soon. To be fair, I arrived about 15 – 20 minutes late due to traffic, however my appointment was scheduled at 3 PM. They close at 4. The repairs my car needed was estimated to take 2 hours, so even assuming I arrived exactly at 3, they still wouldn’t have been able to finish before closing. AND they only had one technician working in the garage, who was currently working on another vehicle, so again, even assuming I had been there at 3 PM, as scheduled, I still would likely have not received service based upon their justifications. They claimed that they had been «making calls all day» to let people know about the issue with only having one technician, but I had never received a call, and was very angry with the fact that I had drove 40 minutes away from my apartment, spending time and gas to simply turn right around without even getting my repairs done. I was not the only one either, as another man was there facing the same problem as me. We both ended up rescheduling appointments at a different location; the branch in Astoria (much better experience there).
Overall, the situation may not have been entirely their fault, but I feel that they could have handled things much more professionally. The staff was rather apathetic to my issues, gave excuses, and caused me to have to miss a day of work due to the rescheduled appointment in the Astoria location. They may not be terrible, but they sure lost any business I may have with them in the future.

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE TO GET YOUR WINDSHIELD FIXED.
I had a tiny crack (less than an inch) on my windshield. The guys there told me it can be fixed and told me to come back in 30 mins. When I got back, I was left with a MUCH BIGGER (10 inch) crack on my windshield. They told me things like this happen all the time– and that now I need to get the windshield replaced.
I got no explanation– how this could happened– why it happened– no warning before I dropped off the car that this was a possibility. All I was left with was a BIGGER CRACK ON MY WINDOW AS THEY TOLD ME THAT I NOW HAVE TO PAY OVER $ 300 TO GET A NEW WINDOW. Carlos the manager did absolutely nothing to mitigate this situation– no discount, no explanation– just that it happens.

Just went here after scheduling an appt through Geico Wed morning, which was pretty convenient. My back right window was smashed Tues night. I also wanted my windshield repaired or fixed because there was a crack propagating from a safelight crack fill I did about eight months earlier. Overall it was an awesome experience: Carlos, the Manager, was soft spoken, articulate and knowledgeable. They decided to replace the windshield since they couldn’t fix the same spot twice. They happened to have the proper windshield in stock which was a major win, otherwise I’d have to come back (I didn’t expect them to have to replace it so when I was on the phone with Geico, it sounded like a repair). They said 2.5 hours to replace both the windshield and the side window. I showed up on time and they were done on time. Phil, who was working the repair was professional and did a great job. The windows look great, they vacuumed out my whole car from all the broken glass and replaced all the windshield decals. When they were done, they pulled my car all the way into the street so i just had to hop in and go.
As a side note, insurance glass coverage was 100% worth it. To replace both the windshield and right window would have been close to $ 1000, but it was zero out of pocket.

These guys are great!
My car got broken into about a year and half ago. Frantic my insurance suggested this place. They were so professional, sweet, and fast. It’s funny because now that I’ve since moved I realize they’re literally a few blocks away from me.
I highly recommend them for what they do. The guys really took care of me!

My car was broken into overnight a few weeks ago. I called up Geico and they suggested this place.
I drove down (minus my driver side window in freezing weather, ugh…) and found their location easily. There were three other cars being worked on at the time I pulled up, so I was concerned that there might be a bit of a wait, but it seemed pretty reasonable.
They had a window for my car (2006 Honda Accord) in stock, so after about an hour wait in their nice lounge, I was good to go. Their lounge has WiFi (I think…), coffee, TV, magazines, couches, etc…
The total cost with disposal fee and everything came to about $ 180 which I thought was pretty reasonable. Since my comprehensive coverage has a deductible of $ 200, Geico didn’t actually get involved.
The guy at Safelite gave me a great tip that I’ll pass along to you — contact your insurance company and see about getting your deductible lowered to $ 0 for a glass only claim. I checked with Geico, and I could do this for only $ 26 a year, so now it can get broken into a dozen times, and it’s only going to cost me the hour that it takes to replace the glass.
Also, apparently they have a service where they’ll come out to wherever your car is parked and replace the glass for you right on the street for an extra $ 25. This sounds like a great service, although their shop is only about a 10 minute drive from my place, so I did not elect to use it.

Came in early this morning for a glass replacement after my car was broken into… The entire staff was extremely professional; efficient, courteous and fast. Thank you. I would recommend your services and definitely come back.

If I told my best friend about this place, I’d say… RUN VERY FAST IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. The level of service at this location is terrible, the quality of work is even more terrible and forget about communication. I came in for a replacement on my windshield and 3 visits later… it is still not completed. The first time it was done, my car was returned to me at the end of day with various molding sections just hanging off. Other parts of molding not completely affixed in it’s original place. I returned per the service techs to have this fixed and he was not present. Not to mention, the tech who was there was not aware of my scheduled appointment and could not help me. So, after the 3^rd visit and attempt, problem still not resolved. Manager said he would call back within 2 days, I have to followup 5 days later. To say this location needs improvements is a ridiculous understatement. I suggest relocating the entire staff and starting from scratch. It is apparent that no one in this location has any appreciation for their clients’ time or any handle on their craft. It is a flat out shame to call your self a service organization. You do not even deserve 1 star… unfortunately there is no selection for negative five. #FAIL

Friendly, efficient, and great waiting room — clean with coffee, leather couches. If someone smashes your window, I recommend you go here.

Derelicts broke our front windshield. Who does that? These kids today. I feel like giving them nuggies. I digress.
Insurance (Nationwide) sucked even though we pay full coverage (another digression) and I had to come out of pocket.
Went early in the AM, took about an 1 ½ hour to replace. Mario did excellent work and gave great advice. Front desk reception dude was cool as well.
There are certain events that you face in life and to have competent, understanding people help you deal with it does a world of wonders. An example of that is having quality legal representation, going to a good doctor or mechanic. So far, my doctor new doctor is great (old one was good, but his office sucked), I love my mechanic (located in Staten Island – Ozzie, what’s up man!!). So, I need to find a good attorney.
Oh, back to Safelite in NYC. Great service and competent folks.

While driving cross-​country my windshield was hit more then once by a few rocks. There, right in the middle was a chip. Having seen the Safelite commercials of how a chip can become a crack quickly i decided to call and make an appt. I called Monday late afternoon, and they had an opening Tuesday morning, the customer rep on the phone was so friendly and even considered the time of day i would be driving into the city (she’d heard that it can get scary, being a new yorker, i was ok driving anytime of day). It was raining/​pouring out, I arrived to the garage and was immediately approached by warm and friendly staff. After they looked over the car, they let me know it would take about 30min and i could wait upstairs in the waiting area. I decided on waiting at the Dunkin Donuts around the corner (i needed my morning cup of coffee), the staff informed me that they could call me when the car was ready. 20min later i got the call, my car was ready. I was walked upstairs to pay the bill, and walked back down to get my car, the employee who took care of my car even vacuumed the inside (you could imagine what it looked like after my road trip)…the only thing i regret is not having asked for the employee’s name (SHOUT OUT TO THE ENTIRE TEAM OF SAFELITE, BUT MOST OF ALL THE EMPLOYEE WHO WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO VACUMM MY CAR) THANKS!!!

Efficient service, friendly people. Surprisingly nice waiting room upstairs — kitchen, large comfy sofas, free WiFi, TV. This is a good thing, since there’s no drop-​off service — you have to wait while they work on your car.
