Amazing sandwiches on fantastically fresh bread, with everything cooked to order. The cajun chicken sandwich is ridiculous! Salads are pre-made but phenomenal. Outdoor patio in back makes this the PERFECT get-away spot for a quick lunch near the office.

Sadly, the Rheon Café has now closed. A sign in the window says that due to economic conditions, they are closing as of March 11. Rheon Café was my absolute favorite lunch place around. They baked their own excellent ciabatta bread, and their sandwiches were consistent, excellent, and tasty, as were their soups and cookies. But the best part of the place was the outdoor seating area in the back. They recently enclosed half of the area with a heated glass-and-aluminum«greenhouse». Perfect for winter and summer, it was a cozy little spot where you could snag a relaxing lunch break in the sun. I’ll miss Rheon Café. Hopefully another good place will open up there soon!

This place is pricey for what it is. I was grumpy this week after I had to lunge for my coffee just keep from choking on the DRY green tea muffin that I’d picked up for breakfast, and believe me when I say that no one in my office has any first aid training… food lovers will sympathize when I say I do not want an old crusty green tea muffin to be my last meal. If you must go, the portobello and red pepper sandwich is actually good. The back patio in the spring-fall is a nice place to grab a snack and read a book, but when it’s closed during the winter, there isn’t much seating. Being closed on Sunday in Manhattan reminds me of the blue laws in the South– for the love of God, let me buy alcohol on Sundays… the green tea muffin I can do without. FAIL– Pastries Dunkin’ Donuts has«fancier» pastries. The Pain Au Raisin is lackluster and the red bean bun is around $ 3 when they’re 3 for $ 1 in Chinatown, who are they kidding. FAIL– Salads Their pre-packaged salads aren’t good period. I’ve seen a co-worker buy one for lunch and look absolutely miserable while she ate it, and she’s one of those hippies who eats bland natural foods, like Quinoa.

amazing sandwiches. seriously. i went here several weeks ago and i am STILL thinking about the duck sandwich i had. succulent slices of roast duck in a subtly sweet miso sauce served on fresh ciabatta(perfect chewiness and not too thick. i love bread but i hate sandwiches that are little more than hunks of bread with meager fillings.). my friend got the ground lamb sandwich. it was medium well done. not sure if lamb should ever be pink. but it was so tastey and we didn’t get diarrhea so who cares. very heavy on the lamb flavor which may be offputting to some, but to those like me who love lamb more than beef or pork, it was a pleasant surprise. have the option of half or full sandwich. a bit pricy but worth the premium quality. very cute décor with a spacious back patio in the back. perfect for those of you that enjoy noshing on your lunch in the warmth of the sun.

Rheon café is right by where I work so my coworkers and I go there a lot. It’s especially nice in the spring and summer because of its roomy outdoor space in the back. I stopped by today for a leisurely lunch and saw that they had a new item in the salad section: Gnocchi! It was advertised as filled with«pumpkin and spinach» with a basil marinara sauce and mozzarella. The sign also says that microwaving for 2 minutes is recommended for maximum enjoyment. So that I did. It was DELICIOUS! For $ 4.50, you get 6 plump(and I mean PLUMP) soft chewy balls of pasta goodness! I love both pumpkin and spinach fillings — and when I was considering the buy, I thought the two fillings together might be a little on the weird side. But I discovered that it was separate fillings! So you get 3 of the pumpkin and 3 of the spinach. Both fillings were pretty awesome. The pumpkin was a lovely orange shade and you can taste its sweetness distinctly. The basil was a nice touch with the spinach filling. A very filling and delicious lunch for less than 5 bucks!

I went to Rheon Café this weekend and had a great time! I was incredibly surprised with how amazing the food was– especially the homemade bread! I ordered a full tuna sandwich and a tomato florentine(which was their soup of the day). The bread used for both the sandwich and with my order of soup was probably the best bread I have had in a very long time! They have really beautiful outdoor patio in the back, but my friend and I preferred to sit in the front of the café so we could people watch. Overall the experience was great and the location was perfect!

Rheon Café is a great place to stop before going shopping in Soho for a little catch up conversation with your closest girlfriend/guy friend. We were there on a Sunday, it was really quiet, so we ordered our drinks, me an orange juice, her a café au lait, deciding last minute to get a cinnamon roll, and went to the back to find a table. There were only a couple of people there, so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was really nice to just chill out on a lazy sunday. There also looks like there is a in house bakery in the back and a patio. I can’t wait to come back and sit outside in the spring/summer. The cinnamon roll was only okay — it was kind of dry and flavorless. The orange juice was fresh squeezed so I really liked that. But their white chocolate macadamia nut with some pistachio on top cookie, that was delicious! Worth going back just to get that again!

I have ordered 2 types of soup so far and a pelligrino all which were good. Especially the pasta fagioli soup. I am afraid to order anything else here because it’s kinda crazy inside and the food looks sort of not like what you’d expect to find in soho. Croissant with toppings? weird. That said, it’s right around the corner from my office and the soups are good as is the bread that comes with it. The ordering system is not a system and they have like 20 people behind the counter doing nothing. Should be more organized for a busy lunch spot. Also, the menu is strange and confusing.

This place has GREAT food and an awesome outdoor patio, what more could you want? I’ve had various sandwiches and they’re all awesome, and since they make the bread themselves the bread is always incredible too. Their employees could be more knowledgeable about their menu(I once asked the girl to hold the dressing and she asked the guy next to her if arugula was the dressing!), and I’d love it if they had Coke in addition to the fancy drinks, but that’s the only thing I can think of that would make this place better! Oh and they’re very quick; perfect place to run out to at lunchtime and still have time to go shopping before returning to the office!

This place is adorable. Decent food(although they don’t serve the full menu on weekends — no hot food except on weekdays) and the patio is gorgeous… very unexpected in the heart of Soho! A great place to go for coffee with your significant other and equally nice to take your parents… really a great atmosphere, very cool staff, good coffee. No complaints here!

Patio makes it an automatic winner. Rare to have such an outdoor off-street sit down experience(although next to a playground, so at times it could be loud). The food seems fresh and better than your average sandwich deli. Staff nice.

why does it take me being laid-off to appreciate the nice lunch places surrounding my former company? ooohhh, that’s right — because i used to eat all three meals(chained) in front of my computer. my friend treated me here for lunch(god bless her) earlier this afternoon. although i used to get off the spring st C/E train stop every morning for three years, i failed to noticed that this place popped up around the corner. it’s a very cute café that carries traditional lunch fare like salads, sandwiches and some pastries. based on my friend’s reco, she and i decided to split the roast duck sandwich which comes with lettuce, cucumber and miso sauce on ciabatta bread. it sounded a bit eclectic(and tasty!) so i was curious. instead of regular side fare like chips or carrots, the sandwich came with the choice of an apple or banana. not just any shitty, powdery granny apple, mind you — a fuji apple which happens to be the only kind i eat. we took our food to the garden area to enjoy. i’ve never had a duck sandwich before and it was super-tasty — tender and moist — while the bread was nicely chewy. since i was satisfied from my sandwich, i ended-up saving my apple for later. keep you posted on how the apple turns out … i have a good feeling about this!

Mozzarella-filled potato balls. Scrumptious and bite-sized, the ball is covered in a thin, crispy crust. Rheon Café looks like a showroom for Rheon, a Japanese brand of oven known for its miraculous and baking powers for pastries, artisan breads and potato balls. I also had a bowl of the corn chowder with bacon which came with flatbread. I think it was a ciabatta flatbread and it was amazingly soft. The crust was soft and chewy. I can’t wait to come back to try the croissants that they’re known for.

Just had lunch at this place; pretty good. I got a whole smoked turkey sandwich. They introduced some pretty interesting flavors into it(tomato sauce and mushroom duxelle sauce?) which made it stand out from the other turkey sandwiches I’ve had in SoHo. Had a bite of my friend’s duck sandwich and it seemed perfect for summer. We sat in the cute backyard that overlooks a playground. Screaming children aside, it was a nice atmosphere out there. The interior doesn’t have much character, and I was disappointed when trying to find the robots that have been said to operate in the kitchen(I think they’re just fancy ovens with different buttons and lights on them). Otherwise though, Rheon is a nice outdoor option for summer. The whole sandwich was plenty for a midday meal, albeit a little pricey(I can get a huge salad with four slices of bread at Aroma for the same price).

I work on Spring St and when I need to get out of the office I hang out outside in this café. There crossaints are so buttery the bag is spotted with oil by the time you walk out the rthe door — de-lish! Really nice spot during spring and summer. Also free wireless internet– YEAH!(The password is rheoncafe)

Freon’s sandwiches are nice, good ingredients and flavors. However, they’re small and expensive($ 9 for a «full» sandwich, about the size of what I’d call a half sandwich). The croissants are excellent, and the coffee’s pretty good(although again, Soho prices dictate $ 3.25 for a small latte).

Newly opened this month, Rheon Café is a cute semi-modern bakery. You can read about the business in NY Mag, as it was featured not so long ago. I got a little confused when I saw the business card, croissants since 1989? It turns out that Rheon café is the new export from its Japanese kitchen supply company. You def. get to witness the café resembling alittle bit of an actual appliance showroom. But, enough on the mechanics… focus on more important matter: Croissants I feel like the food here is «cute». not great. but cute. It’s a great place if you want a quick bite. Don’t expect it to rival Balthazar’s croissants but if I can suggest one item from the coffeebar: CHOCOLATECROISSANTS!!! I had one when it came out from the oven. The golden brown crust had the perfect crispiness and the dense inside layers have rich melted chocolate all around them. Check it out.
