Great neighborhood coffee shop! Warm and delicious coffee matched by its open, bright and inviting atmosphere(digging the floor to ceiling windows). Only issue is that there’s limited seating or even standing room!

Tried their chicken sandwich for lunch which was top class! Bread had a perfect crunch and the chicken had flawless marination. It was a bit like pulled chicken sandwich with yummy sauce inside. Serving was also quite big. Definitely recommended.

It’s a small restaurant, but the chicken sandwich is soooo yummy, actually it’s the best I’ve ever had for a sandwich so far.

Yum! Everything was so tasty. Rex is conveniently located and open at 7; perfect for a pre-work cup of coffee. Pastries seem to be baked fresh daily. I had the croissant, which was still warm from the oven! It was pretty great on a cold winter’s day. As for coffee/tea, they have a standard coffee shop offering, including rotating pour overs. Rex brews Counter Culture beans, which is nice. I got the drip coffee; hot, flavorful, and great black. I would love to come back again and try their espresso and pour overs.

Coffee was great. The egg sandwich was great. The ambiance was great. The wooden table with the utilitarian steel chairs were great. The staff was great. Will be back often.

Rex is a real neighborhood gem… unpretentious and relaxed, with friendly staff. Their lattes are consistently delicious(velvety and never burnt) and they have a great selection of tasty(home) baked goods. I love that they roll out new goodies every so often… it makes it hard to walk out with just a coffee!

Really amazing latte for when you need to stay up after a night shift. The size of the beverage is a tad on the small size but it was good enough to keep me running the next few hours. Also got an egg and cheese sandwich that totally hit the spot. Would definitely be back!

I was really excited to check this place out because I work near it. Honestly, I was very underwhelmed. The place was smaller than I thought and the service was slow. Everyone was nice enough but it just didn’t have the wow factor, especially when it came to their espresso. I’m not sure what it is, but I was just not digging the weird earthy smell… There’s also a lot of health food there… but no «unhealthy» options that really peaked my interest. My friend also got a latte with oatmeal milk. I do NOT recommend oatmeal milk in any beverage.

This place rocks! They had just finished dialing in this season’s rather challenging Hologram blend from Counter Culture(lots of toasty, charred notes, and slight umami going on in this Winter’s version) and they really did a swell job. Their barista, Greg, pulled all the ripe fruity sweet notes the blend could give nicely to the front and got it to a balanced level of acidity where it developed into a smooth slightly nutty, slightly toasty finish. A delightful evening espresso experience! Definitely worth walking the two avenues from Columbus Circle for. Would visit again and would order same again.

The cauliflower hummus sandwich made all the walking and waiting worth! Two pieces of multigrain bread were stuffed with grilled cauliflower, pickled onion, hummus, sliced cucumbers and some greens! Very tasty! The portion was actually big and can be shared by two girls, but I finished all of it! I would say it is the best vegetarian sandwich i have had so far:) forgot to mentioned that they added some sesame oil there!

Perfect cup of coffee and the Cuban was amazing. Lovely staff and comfy surrounding. Prices are great and you can relax with a magazine or your laptop. Very chilled which was ideal for what we were looking for.

Nice clean space filled with nice clean staff. It’s cramped in the morning hours but an easy spot to grab and go some expertly-made java(and get that punch card working for you). If you’re looking to sit, midday is a better bet.

This place makes me happy :) It’s close to home, small but always has space(somehow), great oat milk lattes & vegan date-bars :)

I cant emphasize how much I love Unilocal for bringing me to little gems like this that I would have otherwise overlooked. Great little shop to grab coffee, tea or a sandwich. Came here to specifically try the Rex Cuban and it was delicious. The half size was enough for lunch and was very fresh. The pork was flavorful and the panini style was a nice twist on the average cuban style sandwich. This place is small so you will either have to take it to go or share one of the two tables that they have. I was really impressed by the quality of food and will absolutely be returning not only for lunch but breakfast as well.

A cute little coffee shop with nice sandwiches. There’s only a few seats available. The staff is nice and quick.

Cute little hipster type place but $ 4.50 for an iced chai — add an extra $.50 for almond milk and you have a $ 5.00 boxed drink I threw out after 2 sips. If I wanted a nasty, overly spiced boxed chai mixture I would have went to Starbucks and saved some money. Also, they don’t have the sandwiches that are advertised until 11:30 — just an FYI.

I had VERY mixed feelings about my experience here. This was the first and only place I went to in NYC solo. I was excited to try a fresh and healthy sandwich and a coffee or latte and this place looked legit! I walked in and it was much smaller then I imagined. The menu was also much less extensive then I thought. I saw a few coffee choices, a few salads and a few sandwiches. The gentleman at the counter appeared to be training another gentleman so it took a second before one of them greeted me and by greet I mean«What can I get you?» I saw Latte as a menu choice and asked if they had caramel or vanilla and they both looked at me with blank stares(was the question that strange?). They said that they had Mocha and I asked if they had any type of sweet coffee and again, blank stares. Finally one of the baristas said he could sweeten my latte with honey which I was thankful for. I also ordered a cucumber hummus whole wheat sandwich. The sandwich and latte came out quick. Seating here is communal, 2 tables with maybe 8 – 10 chairs total. I had a seat facing the floor to ceiling glass window where I was able to people watch. Overall, the food and latte were great but the customer service was weird. Not very friendly or personable.

Always on the patrol for local coffee shops, this place has been on my agenda for a while. On a Saturday morning, not too much of a rush with some seating available to enjoy your meal. Got a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich($ 6) and a large coffee($ 3). Sandwich served piping hot with cheese melted in perfectly. Coffee is very strong, which required a significant amount of sugar and milk(for me). Also, they offer free refills on large coffees — I got another one just on the basis of that — caffeine overload. Can get pretty busy, especially with people camping at the tables. Yet service is so friendly, you’ll be willing to trek the literal uphill walk to get here(damn 10th ave).
