The venue is nice but the employees are Class A assholes.

Cool venue, prices are typical for the Theater district. Parking in the garage cost about the same as the tickets for the show. As for the show itself, sound mixing/audio was spot on! I arrived there around an hour before the show starts, the restroom was already a mess. I wasn’t too bothered by it, considering that it’s NYC, I’ve seen much worse. While in the mosh pit I saw a few people going a little out of control, but security jumped in immediately. I always felt pretty safe, even though it has A bit claustrophobic cause the place was sold out. Overall I had a great time!

After coming to this venue, the only thing I can say about it is that I left angry and disappointed. Security was EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional, going as far as touching my wife in a sexually harassing manner. Anyone who has met my wife knows that she is absolutely NO threat to anyone and yet, somehow, your security personnel decided they needed to frisk her which included touching her stomach and poking her even after she showed them her pockets were empty. Words cannot describe how my wife felt about this situation, but I think it should be obvious that no one deserves be treated like this and the fact that your security is using this excuse to touch women is absolutely despicable. Anyone who brings there wife, girlfriend or loved one to this venue, be warned.

I’ve been here twice so far. My first visit/concert was pretty neutral as I just went into the concert and left right after, so my review is going to be based on my second visit, as I had more interaction with the theater staff. I went in for a show on Monday, and I had seating. About a month before the show, I emailed the venue to ask about what to do if I was unable to sit, as I’m a plus-sized person and often I find I struggle to fit in the seats. I received a reply back on who to ask for the day of the show, which I did. I spoke with Anne, who was incredibly friendly and patient with me. Since she had to take tickets, she had me to go my seat with another employee(whose name I didn’t catch) who was also nice about my situation. I was taken right to my seat without waiting in line, and when I found I didn’t fit, I was nicely directed to where I could sit instead and that was all. It doesn’t sound like much, but for something that is normally really embarrassing for me(who wants to go somewhere to find out they don’t fit?), the staff were so nice and casual about it and didn’t make me feel bad, which I really, really appreciated. I’m also glad to know that if I ever come back here for a show, I’ll have somewhere to sit where I can still enjoy myself. I ended up having a great time and still having a great view. The only reason I knocked off one star was because I was really put off by a security member at the end of the show. I understand they want us to leave, but I didn’t appreciate him shouting«Get the —- OUT» at everyone and laughing about it. I found it very inappropriate and it was a bit of a sour end to a great concert. Still, I had a lot of fun at the show and Anne and the girl who helped me were super nice. They just need to work on the attitudes of the security staff, because I did read stories from others about the staff making rude comments. I’d totally come back here again.

Avantasia concert at PlayStation Theater was epic! 3.5 hours of great rock/metal music. No opening act. Just great musicianship. Pretty cool spot to see a show. Good acoustics and sight lines. Standing room on floor and riser seating in back. We opted for the seated area as standing for about fours hours in a crowd of sweaty strangers was just not on our agenda. The seats were actually pretty comfy and had cup holders. Bars, pizza, snacks on site. Prices for beer and drinks were decently priced which was a nice surprise. Large clean bathrooms. The bouncers and staff were all pretty cool. No hassle experience. Seems as if they have a variety of musical acts perform here, with many in the hard rock and metal genre. This is something that makes me happy considering NYC has a horrible overall music scene filled with so much lameness. Located in Times Square and not too far from the main subway hub which makes for a quick escape after a show here. Will definitely see a concert here again. \m/

I like this venue! Been here at least half a dozen times for various metal acts and left pleased. The place is clean and I mean spotless. Bathrooms are shiny and don’t smell like urine. The floors aren’t sticky and the seated area is nice for those that don’t want to mosh and bang heads. The audio is set up nice and isn’t unnecessarily«loud». Stage size is nice. Drink prices are on par with other bars as far as prices. $ 7 beers. I look forward to more shows at this place.

I have been to this venue for all of the K-pop concerts that I have gone to. Ex: B1A4, CN Blue, Epik High, and AOMG. This venue is considered smaller than MSG and all the other venues around the area. There are seats in the back which are reserved and you won’t need to wait if there is a line. The former name of this venue was called Best Buy theatre and now it’s called Playstation theatre. Management needs to be better. Whenever theres Vvip, Vip, or what not, security guards should tell people where to go and not let people cut in line. Every time I go someone has to cut someone online and we have to tell them where the end of the line is. Also, there is a bag check once you get into the venue so get your bags ready. They will check your ticket to see if you’re seating or not. Also there is no signal in the theatre no matter where you’re standing/sitting so it’s very inconvenient. Although I have been to this theatre many times, the concert does go smoothly. Although some girl was drunk in the AOMG concert she had a fight in the Superior area and the staff had to take care of that. Like why would you even let a drunk girl in the first place? =.=… Even Jay Park said to not fight. Smh. Pricing has changed dramatically when playstation took over.

Review for ADA patrons: The Playstation Theater(formally named a bunch of different things) is a pretty neat and very accessible venue in which to see a cool concert. As a wheelchair-bound patron, I was lead to the ADA area upon request and was treated very well by their staff. The ADA section is in an elevated section of the venue in the front of the standing room on the house-left side of the venue. Come early for a good seat in this section or else you’ll be right next to the speakers and without a view! My prior review is pretty funny in retrospect, but most of that has to do with the crowd and not necessarily the staff or the venue itself though. 2-Star rating because the ADA seating leaves much to be desired. Be careful in those stadium seats in the back section though(please see my prior review for details).

I attended the Dynamic Duo concert here this past Friday. SOMUCHFUN! The room we were in had chairs so if you wanted to sit and enjoy the music, you could. The room was nice and had enough space to dance if need be. The bar area was ok but those NYC prices for drinks were crazy.

Pretty cool venue. Small venue but where ever you were you had a good spot. I liked that there was general admission and seats as well. Security wasn’t too bad. I did feel like the woman was feeling my junk at one point — guess she was just being thorough LOL. Pros: –several bars for drinks –pretty good view wherever you sit/stand –several coat checks –clean bathrooms Cons: –located in Times Square –overpriced drinks –long lines outside –shows sell out quicker cause of the size –coat check lines feel like they take forever Good experience so far. Would come back here again.

So my boyfriend purchased tickets and the show was cancelled. It’s disappointing enough they cancelled, PlayStion would not do a refund unless we come in. Not only do we have to come in but also have the tickets. Here is the issue I explained to them, we live in BK but he works 5 minutes from them. How hard is it to look up the records and return the money!!! Bad enough the show was cancelled they have to be more of a pain to clients.

The actual performance venue is small but there’s great lighting and seating space as well as huge bathrooms and clean waiting areas and coat check which is essential in the winter. I wish the stage was a bit higher so you can see over peoples phones better but that is my only complaint

Loved the acoustics and the space. Saw Parov Stelar on 11⁄7 and loved the band and the facility. Lots of places to grab a drink and/or stow your coat. Friendly staff and clean(results may vary… I have no idea what this joint looks like when the lights are on but seems nice and up-to-date).

I came here for Parlov Stelar’s second sold out show in NYC in November. There seem to be some crowd control issues, at least around the 3 bars. Every once in a while, there were some semblance of lines, but usually it just turned into a big crowd of people who barely moved.(Get your drinks after the main act goes on!) The 12 ounce beer were $ 7, well were $ 10, and a Stella tall boy was $ 10. Coat check, on the other hand, was very organized. There are at least two separate coat checks. The bathrooms were also surprisingly clean and fast. Sound quality is pretty decent. I appreciated the ability to sit as well as join the big pit of dancing fans.

With my using Unilocal to check in to the shows that I am attending as a NYC Based Music Scribe, I am often asked to pen a review from time to time about said venue based on this. Now while the amount of shows seen at places like The Best Buy Theater vary for me, here goes nothing. Starting out the Best Buy Theater or BBT as I will say from here on, is a large scale music and events venue located in the spot that used to house the Loews Astor Plaza movie theater. This space is massive and I think I saw one of the Star Trek films here many years ago among other films that I cannot recall anymore. Anyway, it also became the Nokia Theatre Times Square for awhile and this was where numerous acts started to book their NYC visit for fans. I have been coming here as a journalist for I think a little over ten years and feel that about 100 or so shows have been enjoyed/reported on here at the time of this Unilocal. I mostly cover Metal and Heavy Rock events so those experiences are subjective so let’s discuss the space itself. To get into the BBT one descends an escalator that feels that about five floors were being descended down into and it leads to the first lobby and bar where the coat check is. There is also a large screen where one can enjoy a beverage and watch the proceedings doing in the concert hall. Down a smaller set of stairs is the second lobby and an additional bar which leads you into the main room event space. The event space fits about 2200 patrons I am told and has three parts. A general floor area, a back seated area and two side balconies that are reserved for VIP attendees in most cases. Sonically speaking I have found the venue to be hit or miss. Sometimes its awesome in sound and at others it is terrible. The lighting is usually only good when its the headliner or popular direct support and I am understanding that the early acts don’t want to dish out for extra production and that is why you get a lot of red or darker settings. This is a common thing across many venues I have attended so very likely true. Still I enjoy the place and come here often. There seems to be an open WiFi for customers but its spotty and I would advise leaving your wireless carrier signal off while down here since it can drain your battery. There are no charging stations which would have been nice since ya know«Best Buy» etc and come to think of it we never see rebates or flyers to the massive chain even though we are in a venue that as its branding. That is a major oversight. Okay Unilocal done, def check out a show here if your favorite band is playing. Since beginning this long overdue Unilocal, the venue has been re-branded as The Playstation Theater.

I really like this theater. Went here for a concert and the line was insane. But the venue was worth it. It was kind of small compared to other venues, but it was a good experience. it may be a horrific time finding the theater since its in Times Square where there is ALWAYS people. It does have a large sign that shows what is performing at the venue which really gives way to the theater. The theater has a limited amount of seats when it comes to the VIP sections and the back seat sections. BUT the bathrooms here are super cool and extremely clean. You might be dozy from the darkness of a performance if your not into it, but I swear if you go into the bathroom, the red really pops some life back into your eyes.

Best Buy(now PlayStation) Theater won me over. I had preconceptions going in. The biggest negative for me is that it’s in Time Square, which can be a nightmare(in terms of pushing through huge throngs of people everywhere and those seizure-inducing neon lights, etc.). However, I’ve learned to deal with those things because this is a pretty cool venue to see music acts and just hang out inside. I’ve had really good times here. I’ve gotten through security fairly quickly here. The lounge area and bar areas are pretty cool. The drinks aren’t too expensive, too. For some reason this sticks out in my memory, but the women’s restroom was a good one — clean and spacious with lots of mirrors, and this crazy circle of sinks in the middle of the room. The venue is a modern space and overall is pretty sleek looking. It was cool to hang out in the lobby and lounge before the show, grab a few drinks, chat with people, and then see the show. The performance area is split up into the standing area closer to the stage and seating in the back. The seats in the back are comfortable and there’s a good room between seats(you’re not squished or sitting on top of people). Acoustics are good. Can’t hate. It’s a good venue and I liked it a lot.

I promised myself I gonna get there early — but line was already standing around the block even hour and change before showtime. But soon, it started moved quickly — and I give props to venue stuff for efficiently directing crazy people around. I mean it is not easy ever to deal with over-excited and cursing hard rock fans, right? And clueless tourists weaving around on top of that — it is Times Square after all! The theatre itself is small, comfortable and very well-organized. There are seats in upper portion of the space, all part of general admission — but while it is comfortable to sit down, nothing beats standing next to the stage, the energy is all there. I am short, so I had to perch on the steps so I can see above all you tall bums waving hands. There is huge bar and merch sales to the left of the stage, making it easy to run and grab a drink in intermissions. Local group started warming up the crowd, Finnish group Apocalyptica filled next hour — and main event we all been waiting for rolled on stage after that, Sixx: A.M. ! Now, whole theater really filled up, and lit up — their energy in first-ever live tour was undeniable! Every song, every word resonated and crowd sang along. Space acoustics and sound system was perfect. Hands in the air, and keep singing, all fans!!! It was pretty amazing. Still psyched about it!!!

3.5 stars rounded up. A few different bars, comfortable bar seating area and drinks allowed in the theater(woohoo!). Drinks are good prices… I think I paid $ 15 for a drink. View was great anywhere in the house, acoustics were great and it was right in Times Square which means close to most subway lines. Visible signage which makes it easy to locate. The bar staff and employees working the bar were great. The only qualm I had with the facility was the seating. Regular seats start on row B so row A is chairs… like padded metal chairs. I wasn’t very impressed with that. It’s about two or three floors down so of course minimal cell service but that’s pretty average for Broadway theaters. All in all, I’d go back but wouldn’t necessarily be my very first choice.

Came here last night to see Mat Kearney. Walking by, I’ve never noticed this theater before, right in the heart of time square. As you enter, there is a long stair case taking you down to a swanky looking lobby and lounge. There were about 2 bars scattered in the lobby. The theater itself was nice, clean, and a good size for a smaller concert. The front half is standing room, while the back half is equipped with seats. It was a perfect space for an artist like Mat Kearney – well known, but not super famous. I can see this space being perfect for a comedy show.
