I was not impressed at all. I ordered the baby chicken shish kabob sandwich and 1 order of spinach burekas. Delivery only took about 15 – 20 minutes, yet all the food arrived cold. The burekas were not bad. Sadly I was totally grossed out by the chicken sandwich. The chicken was pretty much tasteless and had several pieces of cartilage throughout the sandwich. I probably had to spit out at least five bites of the sandwich because of the amount of cartilage throughout. I was so grossed out I just threw it out. Will never order from here again.

The food is really good and kosher. However I recommend for takeway as most of the tables are big sharing tables. Don’t bring a date here, but this is a good place for a quick kosher lunch. I recommend shish beef sandwich — yummy

I would stick to their falafel and humus type dishes. Their issue is with delivery. It is extremely inconsistent. It can take either 15 minutes or an hour or never. It’s hard to plan your day when you don’t know when to expect your food.

The best baba ganoush I have ever had. And I love Mideast Mediterranean foods. I inhaled everything else on the plate. Family run business! they care about their cooking. It shows it all the rest of the foods I ate.(please excuse any spelling errors and typos)

Overall very good experience. Food was more than decent and service was very good. One of my best experiences for a tasty simple/cheap kosher meal in the US. We had the chicken wings, falafel, shawarma, frankfurter.

The falafel here is amazing. Have actually never had anything like it before. Actually fluffy and not dense. Super fresh ingredients all around. An unassuming gem in lower Manhattan(there’s nothing in this area) with super friendly service.

Been here a few times, the portions are small and prices high, also ever since new owner/management service is poor. They charge for hummus in sandwich and don’t put the other salads in ur lafa… Charging for hummus in shwarma lafa sandwich is like ordering fries and charging for ketchup…

Food is very expensive. Very rude service, not just first time, most of the time the guy in the counter is very rude.

Never in my life have I had a job with worse customer service. They burnt my pita, had all greasy dirty«kosher» food, took forever, and were rude during service. I highly suggest that management hires staff that can help the customer. Do not go there.

M’eh… Fatty/grizzly chicken shawarma, pita was like Wonder Bread caliber, and they never refilled my water. On the bright side… the cucumber salad, humus and quinoa were great. Ok, but with all the choices in NYC I probably will not be making my way back to this joint.

Excellent falafel and it is kosher(depending on which rabbi you follow) their chopped salad is really good and so fresh. They deliver too; baked items are average such as borekas. Service is fine and very clean bathroom which being in heart of NYC you have to note.

We ordered Beef Kibbeh($ 6 for 3) and baby chicken sandwiches($ 10 each). The Kibbeh was stale and tough, as though it had been sitting around and was refried when we ordered to heat it up. We didn’t eat it. The baby chicken sandwich didn’t have much chicken in it, and the chicken was really bland(and a little bit sweet?!?). If it had not been so expensive I would have understood, I don’t expect much from a $ 6 chicken sandwich, but for $ 10 it better be good — and it wasn’t.

I had the chicken soup with a matzo ball, and falafel with hummus and pita. The soup is a little salty, but delicious nonetheless. The falafel, hummus, pita, and pickles are very good, as is their hot sauce. This place is very popular and was pretty crowded when I was there, but since people were on their lunch breaks the tables cleared up quickly.

We just discovered this lovely, kosher, non dairy sandwich shop. They have quick and friendly table service. The food was delicious and we left full.

I come here fairly regularly for lunch and with good reason. Sit down or take out the service is friendly and prompt, and the food is really very good. From the falafel sandwich to the salads to the pita to the soups and all the other kosher delights this place has to offer, all are delicious fare and at reasonable lunch special prices. My personal favorite is the chicken soup which has that real home made look at taste and you just know its been made from scratch and simmering on the stove for hours. Other reviewers are right, its all too easy to walk past this place without a second glance as its a bit out of the way, seemingly endelssly clad with scaffholding and very unassuming, but I would urge you to to make a detour and visit for lunch if in the vicinity, its a real gem and worth a try.

Surprisingly it was my first time here, despite being in the vicinity for a while now and frequenting nearby places. Finally, however, I decided to try. First thought, wow this is actually a sit down for lunch kind of place. And although I was set on ordering out, I will definitely keep it in mind for a potential lunch date. Second thought, the menu is not too extensive, but all the requirements of a mediterranean place are there, i.e. hummus, babaganush, shwarma, etc. Third thought, as I am skimming the menu, woaaaaaa look at those Entrée prices(~$ 20). That was a bit too steep for a to go lunch. So I ended up searching the rest of the menu for lunch specials or something that resembles about a $ 10 lunch. Finally, I saw the sandwich menu and went directly to Shwarma as my choice. Fourth thought, as I was sitting down at my desk to open the shwarma sandwich, woaa, its’ pretty big and messy! I forgot how messy shwarmas can be. Luckily, I had a spare spoon(a fork would have been better, but spoon worked just as well). I happilly scooped out the salad smothered in the tahini sauce and chicken lightly touched by spicy sauce. There was a little surprise of a side of pickles and hot peppers. And for my last act, I thoroughly enjoyed the slightly moist from all the goodness inside it, pita bread. That’s how my shwarma eating rolls. Don’t judge! (For those that care, this is also an OU advertised place, aka kosher?)

Pita Express is a nice slice of what makes New York so great. This was my first time stopping in at Pita Express, and did so after stumbling across the Sandwich House next door on an earlier culinary adventure. Ann Street where both shops reside is way too easy to miss but it’s just around the corner from J&R Music and Computer and, yes, really worth taking that detour down the seemingly dark alley(don’t worry, Ann Street is quite safe). I checked out the menu on the door and selected the lamb kabob sandwich. I saw the cook pull out a fresh, red lamb chop and put it on the grill. No precooked, warmed on a flat top meat here. They crammed it with Israeli salad – a combo of cucumber, mint, tomato and parsley – which made the sandwich very pretty and colorful. There was good snap to the cucumbers, and the salad was certainly not something that appears to come from a giant bucket. In fact, I was hunting for cucumber nuggets that might have fallen from my sandwich once I was done because they were that fresh and tasty. Now there has been some talk about the pita bread and how it doesn’t stand up well. I guess if you’re used to the stuff you find in bags at the supermarket – much the same stuff used by the local carts because it’s cheap and durable – then you’ll not realize what you have in your hand here. This pita denser and more substantial, and a plain piece by itself is flavorful. But, no, whoever baked it didn’t make it for sledding down a snowy hill, so you might need to eat your sandwich while it’s wrapped, peeling down the wrapper to get at more goodness. And, yes, I kind of wished there was more sandwich when I was done, though I shouldn’t have been such a wuss about asking for«mild» spice. The location is very homey. There’s a nice feel to the place, and it’s surprisingly quiet considering that there’s construction going on outside and it’s just feet from Broadway. But what’s fun here are the people who run the place. The guy I can only guess is the owner is engaging and draws his customers into a conversation. Someone who appeared to be a regular was sharing photos with him from a trip, and there was even some good-natured chop-busting on his colleague. A true New Yorker would feel right at home. So, all in all, it was worth the walk in the snow from my office, and I would definitely recommend this to others.
