Ok so without my friend’s convincing of how amazing this little place is, I probably would have never visited the neighborhood or this gem of a place. It was a late evening and after an art gala and with out of town friends, we decided to to take his advice and try some Senegalese cuisine. Not familiar with the food, we let our friend recommend and order for the group. For a party of 4, we ordered two orders of Grilled lamb Chops(dibi) with sides of plantains and couscous. Where do I even begin as to describe the flavors of these chops… forget the 5 star expensive restaurants, these chops were so juicy and tender, i was quick to throw the fork away and simply dug myself in with bare hands and enjoyed the flavorful and cooked to perfection meal. The sides were equally amazing and one must ask for the house-made mayo and hot sauce to complete meal. I cannot praise this place enough for the service, friendliness and welcoming hospitality. I became not only a fan of this little haven but Senegalese food itself. Look fwd to returning and trying other menu items. Oh and try the Sorel drink…

I wish there were more space at this restaurant, as it’s quite cramped. However, it’s pristine, and has a certain minimalist ambiance. The food is incredible. If you are a meat-eater, you’ve got to try the Dibi Senegal, if only for the remarkable presentation. I get the grilled fish whenever I order or dine-in, and it is spiced to perfection. The fries are heavenly. The service is friendly, responsive, and multi-lingual. Ultimately, Pikine is Senegalese food for Senegalese people… it could not be more authentic, and dinner here makes for a great Saturday evening. Nekh nama torop!

I absolutely loved the food here! I recommend trying the grilled fish with plantains, it is probably the best I have ever had short of a home-cooked version. The service was great, the owner was super nice and attentive. Will definitely be frequenting this restaurant in the future.

This is my favorite Senegalese restaurant in Harlem. I live in Brooklyn, so whenever I come to see my friends in Harlem, I have to stop by. The owner is VERY nice. Staff is incredibly kind! I am from Gambia, which borders Senegal, so this is home away from home when I can’t get a good home cooked meal!

I went to Pikine for the first time on Friday, September 18th and it was so good I went back again on Sunday, September 20th. The first time, we were assisted by Agnes. She was very nice, knowledgeable and kind. She was also very patient with my friend who had some very specific requests. I had the dibi Senegal(lamb chops wrapped and slow cooked in aluminium foil) and my friend had the touffe(baked chicken). Both dishes were awesome. I was just disappointed my dish didn’t come with a side nevertheless it was great.

I had the fried fish w/salad & aloko. Food was OK. They hired an american girl full of tattoos as the waitress. She was nice but it was… lets just say different for an african restaurant to have a girl like that working in there. Most africans wont like that. Wasnt blown away or anything. Just another Senegalese restaurant on the strip.

My Senegalese friend from school invited myself and a few others to grab a bite. I am all about trying cultural goods of different countries, so I was excited. We had first the thiakry, witch is a type of pastry made with Tapioca and milk, I believe. Then for dinner we, as in 6 of us, shared 2 Didi meals. Delicious lamb!!! One had rice the other had fries. I’ll definitely go back to try something a bit more exotic.
