I had brunch with my girlfriend here on Saturday. The brunch here is good but not great. The sausages were quite good as were the fresh baked rolls. I didn’t like the coffee however and my eggs did not come as ordered. If you want a good, cheap brunch($ 12.95 including coffee and a cocktail) at a cute place, then this is nice. If you’re looking for something a little better, then I think L’Expresss or Friend of a Farmer are pretty close by and have much better food.

I was strolling around this neighborhood the other day and suddenly got an intense craving for Italian food. I walked down 3rd avenue checking out the menus at every restaurant I saw. I finally found Piccolo and after seeing the menu, I got excited and rushed in. What I stumbled upon was an extremely quaint, quiet, and dimly-lit fine dining restaurant with modest prices. I loved the environment and the atmosphere. There were only 4 other people in the restaurant, most tables overlook 3rd ave, and the service is pretty stellar here. I had the montepulciano wine and I really enjoyed it. It tasted similar to a pinot noir, only a bit fruitier. The pasta I had was farfalle with a pesto sauce for about $ 11 and it was completely worth it. The friend I was with had the gnocchi with tomato and basil and that too was pretty fantastic. So, good service, good food, good atmosphere. Yay! I’m a fan.

A cozy little spot. The staff was super friendly, and the ambience errs on the side of what one might consider to be romantic. I went here with my gf for our first date– it wasn’t loud enough to drown out conversation, nor quiet enough to feel awkward. I had just come from a BBQ so I wasn’t too hungry at all, but we ordered a bottle of wine(that I think I drank most of) and got the Antipasto Italiano to start. It was basically a big plate of meats, cheeses, and vegetables, which was a fun way to break the ice as we tried to figure out which ones to eat first. She ordered the gnocchi and I got the Linguine di Mare(mixed seafoods). My entrée was actually very good(considering how full I was at that point), and at several points during the meal I really wished I hadn’t indulged in burgers and chili an hour before. But one does not ask for leftovers-to-go on a first date, so I reluctantly watched the waitress take away most of my food unfinished. We got the crème brûlée for dessert, but I have a light palate and this was simply too sweet. My gf seemed to enjoy it though, but maybe that’s because her gnocchi wasn’t so great. All in all a decent experience, albeit a bit on the pricey end– not that it isn’t worth the money, but I think we could’ve had a better meal somewhere else.

Pasta sauce that tastes like ketchup. God awful, I was really shocked how terrible it was. And I think they share a kitchen with the equally bad French restaurant next door.

I live OHSOCLOSE to this little spot — and for the year that I have been living so close I’ve been meaning to try even some take-out…well, I guess the universe was trying to tell me something, it was telling me that I could find better — but I didn’t listen, I made the call last night and ordered what the voice on the other end promised me was their best dish — shrimp fradiavlo — now I believe fradiavlo means«from the devil,» and I am thinking that little red devil guy might have been in the Piccolo kitchen last night. The pasta was overcooked, the sauce was plain, it did have a decent level of heat which is expected in a fradiavlo, BUT horror of all horrors I found a hair at the bottom of the aluminum container!!! I should say that the shrimp were pretty succulent, but a hair, I can’t, sorry, gag.

Let me start by prefacing that I am extremely picky about my Italian food, and don’t eat it out very often. I had a friend in town, who was staying a few blocks from here. We decided to walk in the rain to find a decent restaurant to have dinner. We stumbled upon Piccolo. It was the perfect ambiance to have dinner with an old friend, or even a first date. We were able to have a conversation and hear each other perfectly. It was so warm and cozy inside, we didn’t want to leave. I think our meal lasted about 45 minutes, but we stayed another hour talking and drinking thereafter. The service was great. I constantly had a refil on water and wine. I wasn’t impressed with their menu, but I wasn’t disappointed either. It was safe. There was something for everyone on there. The ceasar salad was delicious, and perfectly sized for sharing. The mussels in white wine sauce as an appetizer were large enough to be an entre, and their calamari was delicious! I might have to venture out again for their brunch.

Came here for Saturday brunch with 2 girlfriends. I was shocked to find that at noon the place was only half-full — such a brunch rarity! Being seated right away was definitely nice. Their pre-fixe brunch is a great deal: $ 12.95 for your choice of drink(mimosas, bloody marys, etc.), homemade biscuits, entrée, and coffee or tea. I had the proscuitto and mozzarella dish, which was delicious. My friends had steak and eggs and the eggs benedict, which they also enjoyed. The potatoes that came with those dishes were also very flavoral and well-seasoned(though perhaps a bit on the oily side.) The place is very quaint and cute, and would definitely be a great date spot. It was nice to have a little Italian twist on brunch. Only drawback is that the service was a bit slow with only one waiter — we waited at least 20 minutes for our coffee at the end of our meal. But all in all, it was a delicious meal at a great price!

consistently good italian food. good service. good wine. good price. GREAT gnocchi. Even though there are other yummy things on the menu, I always get it! I highly recommend it. It’s a cute, quaint, small place with outdoor seating

Perfectly decent small neighborhood Italian place. The staff is friendly, and the menu is just creative enough to have a few surprises, although it’s somewhat light on pasta selections, in favor of meat and fish dishes. Reliable, if unexciting, wine list. Cozy spot, not too expensive, would probably be a good spot for a first or second date.

Gnocchi is one of my all time favorites. As is cheese. So I’m thinking 4 cheese gnocchi: score! Unfortunately, I have learned how to make gnocchi myself. It is a pain in the ass. And therefore always order it out, and obviously, it’s never as good as home made. With that said, Piccolo, you did a fine job, just not spectacular. The cheese that i hoped would be overflowing, was only barely detectable. Dessert was chocolate cheesecake. I was expecting chocolate flavored cheesecake… but got cheesecake with a flimsy layer of chocolate on top. Cheesy. Too bad it wasn’t on my gnocchi. A meal that will be forgotten after i hit«post it».

The Gnocchis were fresh and quite good, and the house red wine ok. The atmosphere is quiet and cozy when I went there. The wait and bar staff were European. I would recommend this place to my friends.
