I’ve eaten here twice. Prix fixe dinner twice. Once about a decade ago and in December. Not much has changed, but the food is not disappointing. How many other places can you eat caviar in NYC or the Easternu seaboard for that matter? Had the transmountanous caviar, char and chocolate cake. Done. All good. Stop complaining for a $ 38, ok $ 48 dollar dinner with caviar. Yes, it’s old school, it’s not super happening, but it’s an institution similar to other establishments in the area. Service was great!

I must admit I was a little nervous about visiting this restaurant right before the dinner rush. All too often, restaurants are plagued by terrible service at this hour because of shift changes or staff meals. At Petrossian, this could not be further from the case. Noah, our adorable yet knowledgeable server(with the most infectious laugh) was simply a delight. He truly was one of the highlights of the whole experience. I was curious about the caviar service and he went above and beyond to explain the presentation to me and even went as far as to bring out the golden serving spoon on a platter for me to see. He also was quite knowledgeable about the restaurant’s history and décor and took some time to lighlight some details. Another worry of mine was that the food would be staid and fussy but with a new chef at the helm, the menu proved to be vibrant and exciting. My cocktail, a detail oft overlooked in such high-end culinary-driven restaurants, was well-balanced and quite refreshing(Grey Goose Orange, Chambord, Rose’s Lime and Sparkling Wine). The manager Leo, a most dapper and jolly fellow, made it a point to check in with us and made sure everything was to our liking. The gesture was appreciated and did not go unnoticed. The atmosphere was old school, retro NYC and was highlighted by a classic soundtrack of quirky Shirley Temple, French favorites and jazzy standards. I don’t often write reviews, but this restaurant deserves every one of my 5 stars!

Easily one of the most incredible dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. Petrossian’s new tasting menu brings the restaurant into competition with the upper echelon of NYC dining. Definitely the best tasting that we’ve had, it compares favorably to favorites like A Voce or Battersby. The new chef is creative, and his dishes highlight very fresh flavors. The caviar is as it always is: the best around. The tasting is developing into an annual tradition for us. Every year, it tastes better. The staff is lighthearted and sincere. They’re at your service and friendly to boot. Bottom Line: Petrossian has always been an elite restaurant, and it seems reinvigorated with a new chef and interesting, fresh new dishes. Fortunately, the caviar remains as excellent as it has always been.

I only wanted to try the Caviar Martini at the bar. It was pretty good. Service was decent, nothing over the top like I had expected.

Best classy restaurant in town. Affordable prices for exceptional food quality. The caviar selection is mind-blowing! Service is very good, our waitress was very attentive, explained everything and responded in details to our questions. If you are looking for a romantic dinner, a business lunch restaurant or just want to enjoy life, this is the place. The food served is just the right amount, the Chef came personally explaining how he hand-made our dessert. French bread, FRENCHWARMBREAD! Delicieux.

My favorite restaurant. Remember to order your chocolate soufflé when ordering meal. Every item on the menu is a delight. The perfect dining experience. Be prepared to pay for it. Definitely a joy every time.

Got the«hare» and it had bullet fragments in it. No big deal, I just lost a filling and heard excuses. And the other entrees were just as bad, not even worth the time. They offered us free desert and then carefully choreographed bringing our check with the deserts added to our bill so we could see the prices, and pretended they forgot to take it off our bill even though they stood there and waited for us to say something. Everyone sitting around us complained about their meals as well. The worst restaurant I have been to in a really long time. Really just pretentious, if that’s your thing this place is for you.

Love caviar? Welcome home. Petrossian offers an embarrassment of riches from their signature caviar to the astounding champagne selection. I generally sit in the main dining room, along the banquette to the right on 7th Ave side. Expect to see everyone from old ladies in fur to power brokers and well-heeled New Yorkers. Not exactly a tourist destination, nor a place for those on a budget. Sure, Petrossian has a full menu, and it’s pretty good. But who are we kidding? I learned after my first few visits many moons ago to stay focused. I highly recommend the three caviar tasting which I believe still includes Royal Transmontanus, Royal Ossetra, and Tsar Imperial Siberian. You choose how many grams you want of each. If this is your only course, go for broke. Literally. This tasting will set you back a pretty penny, especially when you factor in champagne and/or vodka pairings. If you choose to order other items from the menu like their truffled risotto with Maine lobster, you can add caviar to pretty much any dish. Seriously. I ordered that very dish with caviar and managed to get through about ¼ of it. Still hungry? They have basics like flourless chocolate cake and other goodies. But who can still eat? Now when I visit, I only get the caviar and Krug. And Vodka. Lots of it. Service is surprisingly hit-or-miss. But who cares? They keep your champagne and vodka glasses full while you stuff your face with caviar. Definitely a haven for caviar purists.

I created a Unilocal account to write this review. Overall, it was a poor experience and I would not recommend anyone wasting their time or their money by going here. My family and I went her for my older sisters birthday, there were 5 of us in total. The environment was dark, seats were uncomfortable, freezing, and completely empty. There was one other table, all business men only ordering drinks and caviar. The food was… how should I phrase it… unoriginal menu, severely overpriced, small portions, highly un-attentive staff, and it took over an hour for the entrees to arrive after having the appetizers. Flavors were strange not tasty, the steak was chewy, undercooked a had a texture to it that made me think it sat in stale soy sauce in a pan for 2 hours, not aged for 48. I realize how harsh one star is, but when you pay over $ 600+ for a meal with your family you expect the experience to be spectacular. The only positives I would note, caviar is fantastic and the original décor on the outside of the building is beautiful. My suggestions are the following; visit some of the other highly recommended, french restaurants in the area, experience their menu and décor. The old style and dinning experience is no longer wanted in fine dinning, thats why you only had two tables filled at 7:30 on a Wednesday. Lower your prices, $ 30 for an appetizer with maybe 4 bites in it… come on, it didn’t even taste good. Seve a cocktail menu not just a wine menu. And don’t push your 8 course, overpriced tasting menu on me when we have 5 people who clearly aren’t looking to be at your establishment for 4+ hours. Update your food and I will update my review. To the everyone else… well, if you go here regardless of what I’ve mentioned… you’ve been warned. It’s not worth it. Walk a block an half south and you will find far better food thats worth paying that amount for. Good luck.

I’m giving this place 3 stars only because service was horrendous. The brunch was great I truly enjoyed the eggs Benedict and the apricot Danish was yummy. But it wasn’t anything amazing.

Had reservation for celebrating my Dad’s Birthday before attending Carnegie Hall concert. The food is so refined and perfect. Caviar selection was exceptional. The staff is attentive and the atmosphere is upscale and clean. My parents truly enjoyed the beautiful evening thank you for making it special for all of us.

Brunch here was delicious! I was a little skeptical about this place given the mixed reviews but I have not one single complaint about my brunch selection this weekend. I tried the prix-fixe menu(a bit pricey for brunch) but well worth it. My recommendations: Duck confit risotto, scrambled eggs with salmon and transmontanous caviar, peach crumb cake or the sorbet selection. Food The duck confit risotto is one of the best I’ve ever had, very flavorful, meaty and unforgettable. My friend had the pain perdu(stewed peaches) which was good but not as great as the risotto. I wanted to try the caviar at this place and I’m glad I did through the scrambled eggs choice: It also gives you the change to try Petrossian’s smoked salmon which was very fresh and pretty good. My friend had the steak(I wasn’t impressed with it). Finally I ordered the peach crumb cake for dessert; it was really good and not too sweet with the vanilla ice cream being a great compliment. My friend had the housemade sorbets and I must admit they were amazing! I typically do not order sorbet for dessert but this a place where I gladly would: the raspberry and mango flavors were divine. Ambiance The place does have a less than modern look which we prefer to call«timeless». It was very quiet and seems to be good for family gatherings and groups.

Always love our experience here! The food is so refined and perfectly cooked and seasoned. The staff is attentive and the atmosphere is upscale and clean. Came here for brunch for the first time and tried the risotto and french toast for the appetizer, crab cakes and steaks for entrée and cheese cake and peach cake for dessert. Though everything was delicious, I feel like something has changed recently in the taste. Don’t get me wrong but we have been coming for years now and recently the flavor has gotten stronger and slightly more saltier but it is one of the best places in New York for a quiet meal.

I have been dying to go to Petrossian. I had planned to go the Russian restaurant known for its selection of fine caviars last restaurant week, but plans fell through. Fortunately, plans worked out this time round and it was well worth it. Not only was the food superb but I saw the lovely George Takei dining there as well. For an appetizer, I ordered caviar, which they served with the fluffiest warm blini and some sour cream. The caviar was absolutely delicious and left me wanting more, which is why for my main course I ordered the sturgeon with caviar beurre blanc. The sturgeon was flaky and moist, cooked a little on the raw side, which is how I prefer my fish. And I honestly wanted to lick my plate, but I felt that the restaurant was the type of establishment that would frown on that behavior. And so I tried to restrain myself when the flourless chocolate cake I ordered for dessert came. Overall, I would say the service was excellent, the ambience sophisticated, and the food delectable, and I would definitely want to return and try the a la carte menu.

I dropped to three stars for a very good reason. A 4 star restaurant pays attention to its patrons, even if they are only spending the basic 78.00 per person Prixe Fixe. After we were served our appetizers we no longer saw nor spoke to our waitress, halfway through our main course we ran out of water never to be refilled again, then the desserts were brought without any coffee or tea. No one ever asked how our meals or experience was until we were ready for the check and a tad bit miffed. I finish every meal with a hot tea . When we asked the waitress about this she offered complimentary tea/coffee to which we declined as I told her we’ve already had dessert and are ready to leave. Merry Christmas to you too Petrossian. Yes the food was par excellence . I would also like to note that the meal came with 2 amuse Bouche? Forgive my spelling, they were both on the menu however when the Waitress brought the second one she told us «here this is compliments of the kitchen»! Really how is it complimentary if I’m paying for it and it’s on the menu?

My wife, son and I had a fantastic Easter Sunday brunch here. I think $ 34 for a prix fixe lunch with an ample assortment of options, especially on Easter Sunday, is a tremendous value. Add $ 14 for my son’s caviar option. When at Petrossian… Every dish was perfectly executed: sumptuous duck risotto; silky smooth smoked salmon on the Petrossian Eggs Benedict; a Cobb Salad filled with all the usual goodies; exquisite, salty caviar and fluffy blinis; a perfumed blueberry crumb cake; a mouth cleansing trio of mango, blackberry and lemon sorbet. Even the fresh-squeezed OJ and rich, dark coffee were just great. The only weird thing is that our waitress — who was elegant, attentive and so very pleasant — left for a break 2⁄3 of the way through our meals. Her replacement was fine, but I like continuity of service. Drinks were a little expensive, e.g., $ 17 for a Kir Royale. But hey, it was a holiday meal in a fabled restaurant where the staff make you feel like a VIP. Petrossian was an excellent dining experience I look forward to enjoying again. Now I know why I don’t like Petrossian. We went last night and it’s nothing notable for the price except for the caviar which I can buy a little container from my favorite fishmonger. My fish was over salted — as my friends’ fish was as well. When I start paying that price, I expect a dish with a bit more professional labor that I know would be a technique I would have to learn. Or a dessert that is more nouvelle. I think they should overhaul their cooking presentations and dishes.
